hi everybody i'm skip alzheimer welcome to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show um i am not in my archive i'm somewhere else uh helping getting get a video store open and um so i have so many uh 16 millimeter films that i'd like to show you that we're still doing the show we're keeping the momentum going and i appreciate you guys watching while i'm not live and i will try to um check in on the comments at some point and say hi anyways uh the first film we're going to watch is um features of a spanish pianist uh jose iturbi i could be getting his last name wrong but anyways he was very popular uh in the early 20th century so popular that he would appear as himself in music movie musicals um he was also a composer and he also played the harpsichord uh and kind of was responsible for resurgence and harpsichord music in the um mid 20 mid 20th century anyways so here's uh jose iturbi a pianist joy [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] and now i'm going to play fantasy impromptu by chopin the poet of the piano [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so so [Music] so great that was uh wonderful uh the next one we're gonna watch was one that was made for home economics courses and you know i've always had this theory that uh everybody regardless of their path in life should take home economics in high school as part of a life survival skill um course uh basically to learn how to make food how to plan a meal a healthy meal um how to balance your checkbook how to repair clothing how to do basic uh household repairs um i think everybody should learn how to do that um i certainly could have used that i i took the college track in high school and selected foreign language that i never used and a lot of math um but boy i could learn how to use it how to cook a meal that would be handy anyway so here's cooking planning and organization enjoy [Music] [Music] [Music] a neat well-ordered kitchen is not only pleasing to the eye but can make your work easier as well regardless of the age or elaborateness of your kitchen having your kitchen organized for the most efficient location of all utensils is most important in saving labor and time in everyday use take the dish drain for instance you could keep it as near to the sink as possible since the sink is the location where it will be used almost entirely cooking utensils such as the frying pan should be located as near as possible to the stove simply because proper location will save time and steps your pots and pans should be stored near the stove and as much as possible you should avoid stacking in such a manner that it's inconvenient to take out the one pan you need without disturbing the others the cupboard containing your everyday dishes cups saucers and things you use most needs care in arranging place the most used dishes on the lower shelves where you can easily reach them in storing your larger dishes trays and bowls try to keep those most frequently used near the front and as low as possible and remember one of the most important points of kitchen organization isn't always knowing where to find everything so put everything back in exactly the same place after you've used it now organizing your kitchen is important but it isn't everything you must organize yourself too yes you your mental outlook is important for instance ever find yourself in a situation like this seems you got overly enthusiastic and invited some friends to dinner we'll serve at 6 30 you said and you began to cook oh brother how you began to cook you used every utensil you had you were going to have one of those dinners you read about yes sir you were going to have quite a party but look at that clock it got around to 5 30 when you had just a good start gotta hurry only one hour to go and lots to do you thought you were doing fine when suddenly things began to happen seems like the carrots cooked just a little too much well so much for the carrot then at five minutes till six still 35 minutes to go the meat was done and ready to be served well nothing to do but take it off the stove and let it cool and at 6 45 you were 15 minutes late by this time the potatoes were still raw yes that night you almost swore off cooking altogether but let's look at things from a different angle let's see how planning as well as organization is necessary in helping you save time steps and sometimes disaster in the kitchen first plan your meal well ahead of time so you'll know exactly what you will serve then make a working outline sometimes called a time chart this will guide you through each step and keep you on schedule begin by making a list of the dishes you intend to serve and locating them in your cookbook then complete your time chart it's divided into four columns the dish you are to prepare cooking time start preparation and start cooking you get the cooking time of each dish from your cookbook make this list first now fill out the start cooking time and the start preparation time since you plan to serve at 6 30 the start cooking time will be at 6 30 less the number of minutes in the cooking time column the start preparation time is the start cooking time less the number of minutes it will take you to prepare each dish and be sure to allow yourself plenty of time the completed time chart will guide you step by step in preparation of the meal all you must do is follow it and keep on schedule now let's see how planning organization and using the time chart works in practice with your meal plan and your time chart prepared you have your work all organized for you now it's up to you at five o'clock you are ready to start preparing the meatloaf so you take out the utens you need for mixing use a tray to carry ingredients from the refrigerator in this way you can get everything you need in one trip to the refrigerator and save time and wasted steps having everything you need handy to your working area will also save the time you'd have to spend in looking for things you've allowed yourself plenty of time to mix the meatloaf ingredients properly and still stay on schedule the meatloaf is the first dish to go into the oven keep your eye on that kitchen clock and check the time against your time chart frequently after you have the meatloaf made and in the oven you'll have time to prepare your salad it can be kept crisp in the refrigerator until time to serve 5 30 and having scrubbed the potatoes and put them in the correct pan you put them into the oven to bake now the time chart shows there's nothing to prepare until 5 50. utilize this spare time to set the table and arrange things as completely as possible in this way you'll avoid confusion and last minute rushing around at serving time don't fill the water and milk glasses until the last minute before serving 50 time to prepare your dessert you have chosen pre-mixed gingerbread which will take but a few minutes to mix and put in the oven at 6 20 the frozen peas begin to cook and now except for last minute dishing up your work is nearly done 6 30 and you're right on schedule dinner is on the table and you're hardly even tired yes this time because you've planned ahead and have done your work methodically everything has gone much smoother this time dad says he's proud of you and your cooking and he looks as if he means it and you well you're rather proud of yourself you've done a good job and you know it and somehow the food seems to taste better than it's ever tasted before all right so this next film is um kind of teaching us how our brains work and how we learn and how what we learn and how it um basically how we process information it's kind of interesting has some interesting scenarios to it this is learning discrimination and skills enjoy [Music] [Applause] [Music] the learning of skills on the human level is a complex process which is only partly understood instant we know that acquiring a skill like diving involves imitation of others and trial and error practice we know too that humans are aided in their learning by ability to verbalize and by superior powers of remembering and reasoning but we do not yet know the precise answers to such questions as what do we actually learn and how does learning actually take place the reason for these unanswered questions that the human organism is the most complex in the entire animal kingdom only in very young children can we find human learning reasonably free such complicating factors as emotional attitudes the capacity to reason and already acquired knowledges and skills but for obviously humane reasons research with small children cannot be pursued too strenuously by experiments with pigeons under control laboratory conditions we can more conveniently study the intricacies of the learning process for our experiments we shall use this box the top and three walls of which are glands the back wall has a food trough where the pigeon can be reinforced with food above the food trough is a disc that can be made to appear either white or black in these experiments we shall use pigeons that are very hungry food is therefore a strong reinforcement which we can use in shaping their behavior our first pigeon pecks the disc a response which he has previously learned brings reinforcement in the form of food regardless of whether the disc is white or black the bird does not discriminate between black and white discs now we flip a switch at the back of the box which will change the mechanism so that he gets paid for pecking only if the disc is white at first he doesn't catch on to the new working conditions and goes on for a while pecking hopefully at both colors the reinforcement however comes only when he pecks on white seven minutes later by the clock our bird pecks only when the disc is white he has learned that when he sees the white disc the pecking response gets reinforced and when he sees the black disc the same pecking response does not get reinforced he therefore stops pecking when the disc is black and pecks only when the disc is white this ability to discriminate between stimuli to respond by pecking only the color associated with reinforcement is called stimulus discrimination this process of stimulus discrimination appears to be a basic part of all learning by humans as well as animals take for example the human response to traffic lights we learn that generally speaking the response of moving a vehicle forward is more satisfying when the light is green than when it is red this is the same kind of stimulus discrimination as our pigeon developed to stop on one color to go on another now let's return to our experiment box and watch another pigeon learning a different type of stimulus discrimination this pigeon has been trying to discriminate between silence and a certain sound first when he hears nothing he doesn't peck he pecks only when he hears the bet this kind of discrimination between silence and a certain sound is so common in everyday experience we hardly think of it as a learned skill which it really is here is another pigeon whose discrimination is even more refined while one bell sound is heard he shows no response at all but the instant the belt sound pattern changes [Music] our friend comes running for dinner to see the same kind of stimulus discrimination on the human level go to any firehouse this fire alarm signal is not for him but suddenly the signal comes for his own district the response is definite and immediate we can train our pigeon to discriminate between different temples of the same sound the slow tempo of the metronome brings no pecking response in him but when the tempo is speeded up there is a rush for the disc for he has learned that in the presence of this stimulus the pecking response will get paid off while this scientist geiger counter clicks at one speed he ignores it but a faster tempo of clicks immediate response for he knows that he's supposed to do some specific thing whenever he hears this different sound stimulus all these behavior examples we have seen thus far in this film illustrate the process of stimulus discrimination making a particular response depend upon the presence of a particular stimulus [Music] this is one basic part of all learning to demonstrate another major element in learning response differentiation we return once again to the pigeon for these experiments the pigeon will still get his food in the same trough but there is no disc for him to pack instead release of food into the trough will now be controlled completely by a manually operated electric push button as this button is pushed the food tray comes up and the buzzer stones at the same time a white light shines inside the trough the light and buzzer together become a signal to the bird that food is accessible [Applause] now we're going to train our pigeon to make a complete turn clockwise it's the old getting warm game every time he turns a little further he gets paid [Applause] he made another quarter turn and is reinforced again go on a little further very good he's reached the halfway mark go on around no wrong way all right there's one just to keep him going and now all the way around good he made it one on the house just for insurance [Music] now has he really learned his lesson [Music] there's no doubt about it our pigeon has acquired clockwise turns and even double turns through a process of trial and error the pigeon finds the response that brings satisfaction of his hunger and then concentrates on that response gradually eliminating other responses this process is called response differentiation it too appears to be a basic part of all learning now let's watch an example of this process on the human level the mother of this child knows he is thirsty before giving him water however she is trying to get him to ask for it by its correct name wayne say waters by repeating the word water mother creates a stimulus involving the sound of the word in the sight of her lips say water however the dominant stimulus appears to be the site of the water cup and the child responds merely by reaching for it but this response is not reinforced with a drink say water gradually the child begins to discriminate the stimulus of mother's repetition of the word water say water and to differentiate out the wrong unproductive responses such as reaching for the cup and uttering meaningless sounds say water right there when finally the child responds with the word he gets reinforced in two ways that's the good boy mother gives him the water along with praise for his accomplishment next time mother will again withhold the water and the praise until the child says the word water thus through the processes of stimulus discrimination and response differentiation the child learns to say the word water this process of refining the response in order to gain satisfaction appears to be basic to progressing from beginner to any degree of expertness throughout the entire range of human skills whether it be in a hobby or in a vocation in personal care or in communication sports activities or any other skill regardless of what the skill may be efficiency and learning is accomplished to the degree that useless or distracting stimuli can be ignored an unproductive response is eliminated we can readily appreciate the complexity of the learning process and the tremendous range of its application when we consider that the human organism can start with this maneuver as a baby improve to this maneuver as a small child and finally develop a skill to this level of achievement [Music] [Music] all right so this next film is just barely animated there's a lot of um minor uh frame motion here this is uh i think it's made by the federals reserve of richmond and uh it is you and your money and it's basically talking about budgeting it's talking about um what you do with your money and how uh you can efficiently use the this resource um specifically regarding saving uh and planning for uh emergencies and such so this is you and your money enjoy this is a story about you we can't actually use your name in our story since all names and faces must remain fictional so let's give you a stage name how about uh parker joe parker this is your house the one without a tv antenna joe parker seniors home right now let's go in and see him but wait there's mama parker [Laughter] sounds like she's badgering joe for a television set seems like everybody else on the street has one except the parker family and my goodness since joe is by trade a tv cabinet maker who can blame mama for complaining well here's joe you'll pardon him for not looking up he's really got a problem he's trying to push those figures around so his budget can afford a tv set the budget would be a pushover except here's the trouble it's bill greenstuff you know him everybody does he's welcome in everyone's pocketbook and piggy bank trouble is he's usually too little too late or doesn't stay long enough he's a hard fellow to keep around well joe comes through after all he mastered that budget it was simple all it took was leaving out food and clothing so here we are at the see more and better television company incorporated to buy a tv set for the parker family bill greenstuff came along too you can't see him he's hiding in joe's pocket he has a sneaking suspicion he's going to be traded off for that tv set and you know something he's right well a man and his money are soon parted there go mama and joe with that crazy tv set leaving poor bill in the hands of mr reed taylor bill is tired after that strenuous business transaction and he'd like to take it easy for a while but mr reed taylor has other plans his stock of tv sets is low so he's sending bill along with an order for some new sets over to the wholesaler business is looking up for mr wholesaler bill drops in with that order from mr retailer and those dust catching tv sets begin to move right into the truck and across town to mister retailer naturally those departing sets have left a vacant spot so our wholesaler calls up mr manufacturer to see how chances are for getting a new shipment delighted he says as bill needing no further queue wearily picks up the order and moves on to mr manufacturer who receives him quite graciously although bill is beginning to get a bit frayed around the edges from all his travels sensing this fatigue mr manufacturer puts bill away for a short rest too darn short for bill's thinking he had just gotten settled nicely when the roll call was sounded for payday and bill's name was called hey bill and to whom do you suppose bill is doled out you guessed it joe parker joe makes tv cabinets in mr manufacturer's plant catch that eager look on joe's face you think he found a long lost friend later on the way home from work bill gives joe a blow-by-blow description of his travels there i was flat on my back when you left me with that real gone retailer and ever since then i've been chasing television sets around first you traded me to the retailer for television then the retailer traded me to a wholesaler for television and the wholesaler traded me to the manufacturer for television who traded me to you for your services in his television factory boy after a trip on that television merry-go-round i'm dead i can't wait to pile into an old wallet for a nice long snooze hey what happened thought i was talking to joe parker uh oh see that fiendish look in mama parker's eye here we go again next day there goes mama with bill in her handbag down to madame fifi's hat shop for that little number in the window that she's been eyeing so long it wasn't hard to clinch the deal all it took was madame looks so chic in the hat and bill has changed hands again uh oh looks like he's not going to get that nap at all he forgot that there's more than one turn on a merry-go-round from mrs joe parker the consumer in this case bill is paid to a retailer madam fifi from there he will go to one of madam's wholesale creditors from the wholesaler bill will be passed to the factory where the goods are manufactured and eventually when the factory pays its workers our greenback friend is again in the hands of consumers and we have completed another money cycle bill and others like him are always on the jump making up a continuing flow of spending from consumer to retailer to wholesaler to manufacturer and again to the millions of workers like joe parker and so go bill and his pals whether it's for tv sets millinery or any of the products our nation produces as bill greenstuff and his friends flow from hand to hand goods and services also move from hand to hand the retailer sells to the consumer in exchange for bill the wholesaler keeps the retailer stocked for bill the manufacturer sells the finished product to the wholesaler for bill and we exchange our labor and other resources to the manufacturer for bill the flow of spendings and the flow of goods and services determine how high prices are price is the measure we use when we trade our money for goods and services if there is no change in either of these flows prices won't change but our flow of goods usually increases as our country grows and our capacity to produce increases and we want the flow of spendings to increase to match the flow of goods so our nation's output can be sold and we can have jobs but money's funny if the flow of spendings increases faster than the flow of goods and services we have inflation this can come about in two ways first faster spending of existing money will push prices up second we can spend more if our nation's money supply increases that brings up an important part of our story let's see where all these extra dollars come from when you borrow money from a bank you give the bank your note and it gives you a deposit credit against which you can write checks when you write checks on that newly created deposit account new money is being added to the spending stream on the other hand money is taken out of circulation when you pay your note at the bank when inflation drives prices higher and higher each dollar is worth less and less more and more things are priced out of the reach of people living on pensions on fixed incomes the salaried worker at least one half the wage earners of this country joe parker hopes to save a little for his old age but inflation can completely destroy the value of his savings what can we do about inflation many things some are less desirable than others we could pass a law and uncle sam could say price increases are illegal but as long as the money and the desire to spend that money exist the pressure on prices is still there price controls or any other direct controls do not attack the cause of inflation but there are several ways to get at these spending pressures we can spend less and save more that gives bill a chance to rest and takes pressure off prices we can increase output by working longer hours that will add to the flow of goods and services but over time pay means more spending as well as more goods that adds to the spending stream and we don't necessarily come out ahead on that deal one real secret is greater productivity more output for every man hour of work this greater productivity is generally made possible by business investment bigger plant better equipment better tools to work with uncle sam can help too he can cut down on the number of dollars he pours into that spending stream or he can increase taxes pulling some of the extra dollars out of the spending stream and something can be done about too much money created by excessive borrowing the federal reserve system was established by congress to regulate the supply cost and availability of money the nation's central banking system with headquarters in washington and regional reserve banks throughout the country can strongly influence the ability of banks to lend creating monetary conditions favorable to stable economic progress and helping to avoid both inflation and deflation so a great deal can be done to combat inflation and deflation by the federal reserve system by governmental taxing and spending by business and consumers but in the final analysis the decisions of the people as voters or as individuals tell the story you have the final say in the value of your money the best friend your money has is you [Music] all right one last film um this one it's pretty great it's uh it's part of these this type of film where it's trying to guilt employees into giving a damn i have a couple of films like this excuse me um that basically uh show employees relaying information about you know the products that they use and the services that they receive and complaining about it but not being aware of the fact they themselves are guilty of the same carelessness and lack of responsibility in the job and you get to see what happens how that plays out um other films like this are uh what's it all about the ac delco film um the uh purely coincidental film which is about food safety and it's it's a common theme it's like trying to instill some sort of sense of responsibility with your wage earners saying like hey you're just as responsible as everybody else um you know but it the tactic i don't know if it works i'm not sure if it worked really um excuse me i still have bronchitis anyway so here is yeah that's the name of the film yeah enjoy [Music] hmm [Music] you know mike's place across from the little dandy ironworks [Music] the other day just after the change of shift a bunch of the boys were grabbing a snack uh the one with ham on rye that's talking his name could be mine or yours or anybody's so let's call him homer that's it homer anybody one of the best steel workers in the business too hey did i ever tell you what happened to that brand new exacerbate station wagon i got last spring yeah i did it didn't even have a thousand miles on it boy did i erase the roof it took him two days to get it back in shape the wagon i mean boy what a lemon you know what yesterday i got a bill for 72.85 boy oh boy did i really raise the roof yeah it turned out they weren't supposed to build me but somebody goofed way to sell cars yeah and they're one of the best outfits in the business in most ways you think they'd have high quality help all the way through well they probably have even the clerk the trouble is people just don't look at the whole picture hey mike fix me up another ham huh like i was saying if they did why do i why i gotta say if they would look relish or pickle yeah yeah mike that'll do i am trying to say if people would look at the whole picture they'd be more alert and they wouldn't make foolish slips like that yes sir here whole picture that's what it takes sending me a bill for fixing a friend of stan it was no good to begin with gee what if they ran the little danny that way [Music] [Applause] you all remember the little dandy iron works the place where the germ of a wrong idea got in the idea that their business was just making steel instead of pleasing customers by making steel yeah that's it to look at it now you think it never had a sick day in its life well it never did really at least it was never very puny just got to feeling sorry for itself the way folks will as a matter of fact the little dandy is one of the best outfits in the business always has been [Music] this is undoubtedly owing to the quality of the guys the homers they got in there just about the best in the business i'd say of course this is not to say that they don't have their troubles around the place they do stuff gets out now and then that never should have passed enough so that they long ago set up a system for finding out how it happened works like this sometimes a complaint will come in by mail more often though someone will call up and explain that something about a shipment wasn't quite right or it could be any one of a number of things sometimes if the shipment hadn't arrived or that he'd been billed wrong or well anyway they write it all down [Music] and then they study it to find out what the trouble is or was i mean that's the trouble with trouble you don't find out what it is you find out what it was and then you try to keep it from being again it's amazing how big a difference a little mistake can make and it's also amazing how many different kinds of little mistakes it's possible to make for example slivers [Music] could be poor conditioning maybe inspection missed some of the defects or maybe the scarfer didn't do a complete job [Music] pipe improper shearing not enough discard was taken [Music] scale fits as simple a thing as a plug spray on the scale breaker could cause scale pits [Music] scrambled lift probably careless piling scabs could result from a running stopper this can happen if the stopper is not set properly or if the tapping temperature is too low [Music] cracks probably resulted from improper heating [Music] low tensile strength might be due to coiling at too high a temperature [Music] out of flat probably because the temper mill wasn't set quite right off section [Music] misalignment of the rolls could be the reason lap probably a collar mark too much draft or improper manipulating broken press probably segregation resulting from an ore addition too close to the time the heat was tapped [Music] cracked in heat treating might be mixed steel which is always possible if stamping is not legible out of straight probably missed by inspection it might be easy to gain the impression that they're having a lot more trouble than they need at the little dandy even with all their experienced [Music] homers one way of looking at it is that any trouble at all is a lot more trouble than anyone needs one of the fellows at the dealers told me i'm not the only one having afraid to stand trouble there's a lot of others yes sir i understand they're having more trouble with the france station they need that's why they weren't supposed to build me it all falls back on the exasperoid factory somebody goofed up there probably sloppy inspection or assembly but i'll bet somebody didn't follow orders hey mike who's this for you ordered it look i always have ham on rye with pickle scrap this and start over watch what you're doing huh see what i mean it's hard to tell why the trouble is but it's easy to see what it is people just not paying attention to what's going on yeah somebody back up the line who perfectly well how those exasperate prana stands were supposed to be put together but they just wouldn't do it that way okay maybe they don't know why the book says what it does but at least they know that somebody knows or there wouldn't be a book yeah ham on rye with pickle well now that is just right you know there are no more one-man geniuses if there ever were now take edison he had a team hey i'll bet that's what happened at exasperate like it says up there follow the book we don't need any more characters and that's it somebody didn't follow the book they decided to do it their own way don't work if you want to put something together right you got to have teamwork especially these days yeah [Music] nobody knows that any better than the folks up at the exasperate factory thousands of parts raw materials finished parts commercial assemblies sub assemblies coming in from all over everywhere and going every which way and it all has to end up looking and acting like an automobile should as a matter of fact the exasperate outfit is one of the best in the business always has been this is not to say that they don't have their troubles and sometimes trouble gets out into the field why only a couple of weeks ago they were up to their hips in busted franz stands that were bouncing back from all over the country somebody had definitely made a boo-boo in connection with the new model right away their system for getting it the source of the trouble started to go after the source of the trouble they found out the stuff it inspected fine nothing wrong with the assembly and the forming was right up the snuff they had done everything all right but the steel they had done it with well the blame all fell back on the little dandy that wasn't the kind of teamwork the exasperate people wanted from their suppliers either kind of surprising coming from the little dandy one of the best outfits in the business but the customer can change his mind about that if the little dandy doesn't get the job done right the customer soon gets to thinking it's not a good company you think we should start looking around for somebody else who can make this steel for us the way we want it well it's an idea i'll tell you one thing though we're going to keep a closer watch on the little dandy from now on absolutely you'd think they'd work a little harder at keeping a close watch on themselves continued the first man they're big enough and old enough was the answer of course there's a chance that somebody working on those franchise stands just wasn't being watched close enough i don't know why people are like that but they are if they think they aren't being watched they do fall maybe they do something wrong just because they feel they're big enough to get away with it hey i just swept there i'm sorry i'll watch myself now that was only a little thing no harm done that's what he's paid to do sweep the floor see what i mean yeah you know it could have been that some guy that didn't have an inspector looking over his shoulder every second just figured he was working hard enough so he let the france stands go through wrong one by one but why even if a guy's all by himself in a closed room he's not alone and unwatched he's got himself there watching all the time why don't people watch what they're doing like they used to what happened to people's pride that's what i like to know yeah homer why don't people watch what they're doing [Music] it put the folks at the little dandy to a lot of trouble when that complaint came walking in from the exasperate people it seems that somewhere during the preparation of raw materials the manufacturing and shipping to the exasperate factory something had gone wrong the laboratory report on the main back staff of the france stands told the sad story bad steel but why they've got what it takes to make good steel at the little dandy some of the best equipment in the business and good men too guys like homer and his friend you'll find them in every kind of job management and non-management operating maintenance and services or of course they may be older or younger fatter or thinner but they all have one thing in common they're all good guys just like homer and his friend [Music] as the steel was made homer and his friend gave it the usual tests from the spectrometer reading they didn't find any reason to be suspicious of the chemistry all along the line other homers supervised and watched it step by step after a certain amount of transit time the steel went into the soaking pits [Music] and it came out and got slapped [Music] another friend stamped it for identification then the slabs went to still another homer and friend at the scarfing dock for proper conditioning [Music] homer put it through the mill and he inspected the pieces and passed them and mechanical testing didn't show him a thing in shipping homer picked off the numbers and some homer in billing wrote down the numbers no one spotted the trouble and off it all went to the exasperate factory and there it came to light that something wrong had occurred somewhere it may have seemed only a little thing but the effect was tremendous what was the answer i'll tell you what the answer is things don't do anything wrong people don't let them do wrong you can bet that at the bottom of all afghanistan trouble somewhere is something somebody did they shouldn't or didn't do that they should or maybe something they thought was a little thing guys a lot of the trouble comes from people with plenty of pride but the wrong kind oh they follow the book all right good team worker you know be their own inspector but a lot of pride selfish fright like this a guy does a swell job up to a point then he comes to a little thing and thinks to himself i've done all i need to do let george take over from here he ought to do more anyway it's a matter of a fair play suppose everybody started doing only what he thought he had to do instead of all he could do to help things along as though no one else had anything else to do but wait on him to pick up where he left off yeah hey mike what do you have to do to get a cup of coffee around here just ask for it homer just ask for it look all i need to do is drink it it's up to you to see when that cup is empty that's all you have to do is wait on customers you know that's probably what was wrong with those spanish stands that didn't hold up a little more fair play mixed in the phone in a brand new exasperate station wagon with a bust afraid of stand everybody started doing only what he thought he had to do instead of all he could do to help things along as though no one else had case the way it so often is there has to be more faithful following of orders more personal pride and more of the spirit of fair play something had to be done about it and would be that sure it turned out that either one of two guys yeah these two had been in a position to see what was called for and to do something about it they both knew what was right but somewhere somehow they didn't do what was right and as a result got the little dandy and a lot of people in trouble and there's homer still beefing about some other guy he thinks caused all the trouble always some other guy i don't know what to do with people like that any guy that won't look at the whole picture you're just wasting words talking to him how do you get across to people like homer the real story behind his busted frannistan obviously he doesn't see the whole picture or his part in it do you yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah they laid on pretty thick on this um that film but it's shot in such beautiful color and uh
