foreign album okay is oh [Music] foreign [Music] on i don't [Music] telephone [Music] oh [Music] foreign me okay [Music] is [Music] foreign my [Music] come on [Music] [Music] back [Music] be [Music] um so that was part of our uh french teaching french uh series uh i love it because it seems like it's like a little soap opera and um you know it's really mundane having read the description which is basically you have this young couple whose washing machine is broken down but it just seems like there's more drama and there's more going on it's like maybe it's a 70s like love american style situation comedy um but it's not it's not um i'm skipped alzheimer welcome to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show uh for those of you that tuned in yesterday i was busy eating turkey while i was showing films about parades and such so thanks for tuning in some of those parades were glorious some of them were some amazing uh home movie uh shots of a variety of different parades including ones in new york uh in new orleans during mardi gras um etc so really great stuff because i really love a parade and basically the uh the uh philadelphia parade was kind of i don't know you know for obvious reasons they had to kind of phone it in um it still was kind of cheesy which is what i like but uh it didn't didn't hold it for me didn't hold it for me like watching some older footage so thanks for tuning in for that uh so today back to watching just regular grab bag films from our collection of 16 millimeter films um thank you regina for the coffee for showing that french film um i didn't understand it i took uh two years of french in high school and as soon as i hit college it all poured out of my ears uh because i had to learn calculus so um i hope that you got what was going on uh but this next film is uh in english and it is uh which would be shown to uh driver's ed um folks called crossroads crash now it's not part of those series of films that show a lot of gore this doesn't show any gore um it has a really weird kind of narrative to it involving 1930s bank robbers so here we go crossroads crash [Music] [Music] do [Music] did you ever notice how people in a hurry tend to disobey the rules now that can get them in a lot of trouble if you happen to be in their way it can also get you in a lot of trouble it isn't every day you run into a bank robber but one out of three accidents occur at intersections they happen every day and usually because somebody did something wrong besides obeying the rules yourself you've always got to look out for the other guy [Music] an intersection is a place where traffic moves in many directions this intersection is regulated by a traffic light it is regulated but not controlled the control comes from the drivers themselves a traffic light is a timing device it measures the time allotted for each line of traffic to move ahead it says who must yield the right-of-way but it does not prevent other drivers from being wrong when they are the results can be disastrous as a driver your first job is to know the rules your second to obey them your third to guard against the mistakes of others this intersection has no stop signs or lights it is unregulated when two cars arrive at the same time the law dictates that the car on the left shall yield to the car on the right but don't bet your life on it [Music] some drivers forget and nobody wins a tie occasionally at intersections regulated by four-way stop signs four cars arrive at once then who goes first the solution to this problem is courtesy and communication a yield sign means that you must yield to cars on the intersecting roadway if you roll through a yield sign and cause an accident it's your fault this car has just violated the law the driver rolled through the stop sign he did not stop completely now this might be okay for a yield sign but a stop sign means what it says and you must stop at the line or before if there is no line then stop at the crosswalk [Music] a flashing red light means the same as a stop sign a flashing yellow light is a warning signal and means proceed with caution at an intersection it is similar to a yield sign and this familiar sign while it's the most useful of all frequently means trouble a lot of people play games with traffic lights [Music] one of the most common is trying to beat a stale green light this driver knows that green light ahead is stale he knows it will shortly change but he wants to beat it just for the fun of it or because he's impatient and he made it this time odds are the odds will catch up with him if he's lucky he'll get a ticket if not he'll get this [Music] it's not smart to play games with two tons of steel [Music] the right way to approach an intersection is to get your speed down to the point where you can stop easily take your right foot off the accelerator and poison over the brake pedal that saves you vital reaction time in case you need to stop before starting off at an intersection look first to your left and then to your right to make sure the cross traffic has stopped there may be some joker coming your way who never heard of stale green if you're going to make a turn show your intention well in advance both by signal and position get in your turning lane well in advance of the turn in making a left turn don't try to dart in front of oncoming traffic they have the right of way and you must wait until there's a safe break in oncoming traffic it's also a good idea to keep your wheels pointed straight ahead while waiting to make a left turn that way if you're struck from behind you won't be shoved into the oncoming traffic make your turn briskly but carefully pedestrians may dash into the crosswalk and force you to stop turn into the inside lane don't swing wide into the outside lane where there may be a conflict with an oncoming vehicle making a right turn when you make a left turn at an intersection don't stop beyond the center as these cars are they are hopelessly locked in the tangle turn instead execute the tangent turn from a position short of the center this permits traffic from both directions to turn left at the same time [Music] the expressway no intersection problems here right wrong it's just a different kind of intersection with a whole new set of problems [Music] watch out for these signs you're on an exit ramp instead of an entrance ramp and on your way to a deadly head-on crash in high-speed traffic [Music] when you enter an expressway it's an intersection of sorts speed up in the acceleration lane and blend into the traffic stream smoothly [Music] approaching an interchange move into the passing lane leaving the entry lane open for merging cars getting off get in the deceleration lane well in advance and signal slow down and enter the exit ramp at the posted speed [Music] if by chance you should overshoot your exit you must go ahead to the next exit don't try to back up and get on the ramp [Music] when you leave the expressway shift your metal gears to prepare yourself for the slower cruising speeds of non-expressway driving and remember one-third of all accidents happen at intersections and most because of some kind of carelessness know where you're going show where you're going slow for the intersection and go when it's safe [Music] that's the way defensive driving protects you from the jokers of this world yeah that was great it kind of snuck in there's um other films in this series one's called head-on crash uh and then there's a rear-end crash i can't remember but uh that's the one that that's the strangest of the three that we just saw why they had a kind of bank robbers at the beginning i don't know you know filmmakers get bored they hope that they will spice up what they're doing for their viewers um but yeah there you go uh this next film is animated um and this is uh it's a title pulling let's see at the screen here yeah uh so why we tell the truth and it involves um if we're lucky we get often times a um program notes teacher's guide um let's see what are the questions i should ask before viewing the film um explain that all people lie once in a while compare white socialize to black anti-social lies that seems a little weird um do you believe everything you are told why why not do you believe some people and not others why would you rather deceive people than be trustworthy discuss the meaning of truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth discuss the meanings the following words fib slander factual perjury fraud integrity profit i've just sounded out prevaricator veracity honesty liable trustworthy sincerity all right here we go this is why we tell the truth joy once there was a strange little place called straight talk straight houses on a straight street straight shoes on straight feet straight laces and straight faces and every morning precisely as predicted the sun came straight up you could see the acrobats swinging the straight talkers straight across the straight canyons the acrobats always promised to show up on time acrobats always kept their promises all the straight talkers told the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth yep i sure do deserve this ticket officer i was doing at least 10 miles over the speed limit there was only one television program in the land of straight talk the straight news hi i'm mizzy nate telling it straight at eight today we'll be doing some straight talking with a candidate for president honest john cannaby but first a message from our sponsor hi i'm nate the straight here to tell you about sugar sugar pop puffs in the our dough no other cereal contains less nutrition and more sugar than sugar sugar pop pops so remember moms sugar sugar pop puffs will give your kids more pimples and more rotten teeth than any other cereal yuck i wouldn't touch the stuff now the news a straight talk exclusive interview with honest john cannaby tell me hjk can you tell the public what makes you the best man for the job nothing well what about your experience the experience of nothing what will you do if you're elected nothing vote for honest john cannaby i mean uh well uh i wouldn't but uh you know well who would right excuse me mizzy my acrobat promised to meet me at 805 everyone in straight talk told the truth life was very secure until one night it's a spaceship [Music] greetings groundings allow me to introduce myself the ace from outer space some people call me the master of lies but you can call me the jester don't be frightened i want to be your friend i know we can all be friends as long as you do exactly as i say otherwise i will blow you all into little bits with my secret weapon what weapon it's secrets so secret that none of you are allowed to see it i'm hiding it inside my spaceship suffering straight talk from that day on all the straight talkers talked about was the jester whence in the far reaches of outer space did he spring what was his wicked weapon mizzimate girl reporter made up her mind to ask him jester hello jester anybody at home i guess he forgot to lock his spaceship holy hexagons it's empty there's no secret weapon the jester wasn't talking straight he was was what nosey news girl i i don't know you weren't telling it straight you were telling it crooked telling a lie what a lie a lie makes something out of nothing and nothing out of something you don't really have a secret weapon i'm going to tell everybody and i'm going to tell it straight don't try to stop me i wouldn't dream of stopping you i'll go with you you will but of course on the way we can stop for a square burger everyone in straight talk could get one square burger a day all they had to say was i didn't get any i didn't get any did not get any well as soon as i finish eating i'll tell everybody how you how would you like another square burger what don't be silly you only get your square burger if you say you didn't get any then say you didn't get any i can't do that well try so lie say i didn't get any i didn't get any did not get any that was easy easy as pie or should i say lie one square burger i didn't get any impossible my computer says that everyone in straight talk got one square burger today well i didn't get any hey you've got two square burgers i i i don't have two one two i'm gonna tell tell him to lie the easy way to get two square burgers just like me is to lie what tomorrow when square deal asks if you've had a square burger say no even if you did that's a lie get it and so the very next day we didn't get any did not get any soon all the straight talkers began to lie i didn't get any did not get once the straight talkers started lying they just couldn't stop hi i'm busy mate telling it uh straight and eight well today we'll be talking once again to honest john cannaby but first a word from our sponsor hi i'm nathan strait here to tell you about sugar sugar pop puffs in the new easy new easy to open no other cereal contains more things in it to give kids healthy clear complexion smile kid and sugar sugar pop puffs will eliminate all dental problems take it away thanks nate for the word on the great new treat and now here is our guest honest john cannaby vote for cannaby i'll give you pie in the sky are you sure you can do all that you promise of course trusting me is like trusting an acrobat which reminds me i promised to meet my acrobat at 9 16. goodbye mizzy [Music] he said 9 16 but he never tells the truth so i'll wait a while pretty soon things began to change in the land of straight talk only one person in straight talk looked happy it was as if he was beginning to feel at home why so glum grounds everything is so crooked you'll feel better when you get your square burgers what are you kidding square deal broke down from too many lies no more square brackets oh we can fix that we can easy as pie all we have to do is make a new square burger machine a great big one where would we put it in the canyon of course the canyon where is it i lied now you're all trapped come on let's get out of here right you stand by the wall i'll climb on your shoulders right right then i'll climb on your shoulders right then i'll climb on your shoulders when i get to the top i'll pull everyone up right hey wait a minute suppose when she gets to the top she doesn't keep her promise suppose she doesn't pull us up suppose he just leaves us down here right right as they continued to squabble the sun set and it got colder and colder [Music] it's all mine now the land of stray talk belongs to me stop don't you see what all this lying is doing to us the only way we'll get out of here is to tell the truth the truth well okay but i don't trust him trust me you're the one i don't trust we'll take an oath we do hereby promise that from this night forward we will tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth if we always tell the truth the jester spell will be broken and straight talk will be ours again now that the straight talkers could trust each other again mizzy was able to lead them to safety after a while things in straight talk straightened out and the straight talkers went back to telling the truth i didn't get it once again everyone could get their fair share of square burgers except the jester jester oh jester it's the news girl nobody is listening to your lies again jester so just get in your spaceship and go home i believe i've outworn my welcome [Music] so [Music] so this film was made for little kids it has no application to the adult world whatsoever although i would say this this all started when the news girl uh was interested in getting basically was appealed to for her greed and that's where it all broke down so that's that's the deal right there whoever's providing the news or feeding information if they if their motive is is based on greed then we're kind of screwed anywho um this next film is part of a uh that series of uh management films uh made for alcoa by calvin productions it's called enforcing rules and procedures good [Music] performance desk uh no no marty's not here oh he's out in the plant somewhere yeah yeah clancy's here oh okay i'll tell them yeah okay clancy yeah been a breakdown over in screw machine some feeder attachment you worked on want you over there right away oh it never failed i'm right in the middle of a job what's marty say he's out in the plant looks like it's up to you yeah i guess i better go i wish marty was here though he's kind of funny about me leaving the job yeah but on the other hand you end up by going anyway don't you yeah yeah well tell marty where i am will you yeah okay [Music] you seen clancy yeah they had a breakdown over in screw machine you weren't here so i told clancy and he went over to help okay joe but after this i don't want anybody to walk out of this shop without first getting a work order from me sure they had a problem over in screw machine and now i've got one that gear reduces from the annealing furnace and they need it to start the second shift if we don't get that second shift started the plant will never get the emerson order out on prime [Music] [Music] hi marty you want to see me uh joe told you where i was today yeah he told me where you were about that gear reducer finished are you serious i gave you that job at eight o'clock this morning it ought to be finished by now but marty i just got back like i told you to tell you i went over to help out with the breakdown okay so you went over to help with the breakdown but if you don't finish that gear reducer will be holding up the second shift what am i going to tell mr andrews or maybe you'd like to make the explanation i'm sorry marty you wish i'd known why didn't you tell me what the rush was all about scheduling the work is my job clancy your job is to get the work done and clancy under your old boss it might have been okay for you to pull this kind of a stunt but it's not okay here in my shop so let's not let it happen again all right that's the way you want it but look marty i've been working around this machinery so long that whenever anything needs fixing why they call on me kind of a handyman even the boss pulls me off the job once in a while me i just try to keep everybody happy okay but that's what i don't want your job is right here in this department and that's where i want you to stay all right after this i'll tell them i'll have to check with you first only what if you're not around then it's my neck not yours i'll take the responsibility okay hello yeah this is clancy oh hi daley no sir i'm sorry but the answer is absolutely no look daily i'd like to help you but i can't do it i absolutely cannot leave this department without marty's okay since yesterday marty really laid the law down and that's that he'll have to check with him no he's not here he's starting to plant somewhere this is what happened last time and i'm not sticking my neck out again i'm sorry daley i can't do it look clancy i can't find this foreman of yours anywhere and we need you man we're in a spot sorry daley i cannot leave this department without marty's okay look pal i've got the greatest respect in the world for rules and regulations but this is an emergency our whole lines down i got 30 people sitting around doing nothing and you could fix it clancy you did it once before yeah you're putting me on the spot now you can say that again aj andrews is breathing right down my neck and if i have to go tell him that you wouldn't come and help us did mr andrews tell you to come get me no he just said get the blankety blank thing fixed come on classy get your box let's go okay but i'm going to be in trouble y'all you seen clancy he's over in assembly uh they had a breakdown oh so they had a breakdown did they yeah i i guess it was pretty serious anyway daley came over and got him i don't care who came and got it this is my department and what you guys do with your time is strictly my responsibility why can't i get you to go by the rule well hey don't get me mixed up in this thing assembly please this is it joe this time i'm going to make sure hello this is marty is clancy over there well take a look around and see will you never mind he just walked in yeah where you been over an assembly they had a breakdown well fancy excuse the interruption congratulations hayley tells me that clancy fixed the power of failure assembly before we lost the whole afternoon that breakdown could have cost us a lot more money than it did keep up the good work nice going clancy thank you mr andrews yes mr martin what can i say so somebody pointed out in the comments there's some really great working-class names in there marty and clancy all great guys to have on your bowling team but man working them together so you know this is a film that's open-ended and the idea is you would show it to a bunch of managers and then they would discuss what they would do in the situation and you know potentially a moderator would say or a facilitator would say like well perhaps this is something that goes beyond the employees and you should talk to management about and you know managers should kind of work out a way and the manager should actually call the other manager and get permission blah blah blah you know there's all this stuff but it's almost always in all these situations uh it's almost always a manager's fault like the manager could be doing something differently and has not um this next film is is great it is the all-american ski tournament and this is water skiing so enjoy woof [Music] for the annual all-america ski tournament skiers came from all over the country to compete in one of waterskiing's oldest and best-known competitions the big names of skiing including five members of the world team are on hand as well as some of the upcoming stars who would fit their skills against the champions one of the toughest events the women's slalom presents the first challenge even world team member linda levingood of miami has a rough time but she's okay let's watch a perfect run through the course by laurie hughes of miami in this event the young ladies don a single ski for a run through a measured course trying to round each of six boys placed on the outside each successful boy rounded means a point in their favor and down she goes one by one many of the contestants are eliminated as you can see this sport is not for the fainthearted now let's watch the women's national slalom champ liz allen of winter park florida as she goes to work on the slalom course the success of any tournament depends on the precision of a skilled boat driver specialized equipment such as the sleek cobia boat powered by twin johnson motors the judges find a runoff as an order between barbara cooper of lakeland florida and young liz allen barbara skims past three boys to set a fast pace before missing and liz stand the pressure put on by this veteran she passes the fourth boy to nail down the slalom crown and then on to additional boys to chalk up more points for her overall stick as the competitors regroup for the next event the cypress gardens aqua maids take to the water for the first of four daily ski shows [Music] then it's back to championship skiing this time the men get a crack at the slalom courts in all a dozen skiers failed to make their marks leaving a three-weight dog fight in the runoff [Music] california's mike ciderhoud misses his sixth floor leaving just don blank of sharon pennsylvania and frankie dees of lakeland florida to fight it out so don racks up eight boys before missing now can masters champion frankie dee's match and beat the score it's a must run and frankie knows it [Music] and he does it hanging on to win by just half a point for you skiing fans who'd like some pointers on slalom what's the championship form of mike ciderhoud the national title holder then it's on to the action-packed men's tricks once again the premier skiers are representing paul merrill of cypress [Music] gardens [Music] frankie dees as with each skier frankie has 20 seconds to perform as many tricks as he can over a measured course he scored on degree of difficulty and the form of each trick [Music] next is joker osborne a former national title holder [Music] france also is represented with its national champion jacques tillerman [Music] next world trick champion alan kempton of tampa florida performs his unusual and daring somersault over the ramp allen was the first person to ever perform this feat let's watch it again in slow motion hmm [Music] the last contestant is young ricky mccormick of independence missouri ricky's a tough competitor in fact he scored more points in a single trick event than anyone else in the world [Music] that's the story on the scoreboard and now the most exciting challenge in waterskiing the daring high jumping first over the slick high jump in women's carpet is vicki jondro of florida's west coast as you can see this isn't for beginners world team member linda levington of miami takes a crack at it and leaps 91 feet each jumper is scored on distance and four larry hughes shows her skill on the hardboards as she sails 83 feet laurie's second try better this time 91 feet liz allen slips into her wrathmaster scheme she's one of the toughest competitors in fact she's the national and masters champion in this event 95 feet on the first try liz soares 101 feet to clinch first in jumping that along with her first in slalom and tricks make it a clean sweep for her after the final show break the men take to the water joe garageborn thrills the crowd with his whiplash style as he jumps 129 feet alan kempton also makes a valiant try with his best jump of the day 133 feet paul merrill takes a go at it and matches captain's distance of 133 feet frankie dees makes the double weight check and sails 142 feet the longest distance of the day frankie injured his knee on that jump but he's okay now it's left up to the man who has made the longest jump in history mike ciderhound of california not quite enough as mike heads for his final jump of the day a beautiful leap tying d's and distance but ciderhog wins it on farms after the action is over cyprus gardens owner and founder dick pope is on hand to award the trophies first to liz allen for being the women's overall champion then to frankie dees the men's overall winner the day ends with a flag salute to the competitors and crowd alike so something very exciting about that a lot of uh competition films that i have so there's a snowboarding one that um the inn and winter with the peter jennings that has a similar type of editing vibe and exciting music although that that one has more drinking and dancing in it um but there is maybe this is like how people edited uh sports competition uh films um highlight films because i've seen them also with uh football college football and basketball when there's generation and music but yeah it's something something really good about it the music is what really uh made me happy about that um thanks everybody for tuning in today uh everybody have a good weekend um if you like what you saw you can certainly hit like you can buy me coffee because i love coffee or you can go to avgeeks.com there's uh more shows online yeah everybody have a good rest of your weekend and take care of yourself and again i just want to highlight um thank you so much for your support and for your comments and your eyeballs it means a great deal uh during all this and um we will see you again on monday um where i'm gonna pull more films it's been really great to be able to uh set up the telecini and pull films and and show stuff that i haven't digitized in the past so we're able to actually watch things that i haven't seen before so i appreciate you being there for that and um all your support and enthusiasm is what keeps me going so thanks again um don't spend too much money on the internet um or do i don't care it's it's fine uh but do take care of yourself and uh you know remember uh to please rewind and you know this suit sounds super hippy dippy but you know learn to love each other we're all different people we all different things that we care about are important to us and there's a common language is that we're all human and we all need love and care and understanding so there's my little hippie dippy uh thanksgiving card for you um but the please rewind is super important and of course the smiley face with uh with eyelashes it's also important but uh yeah everybody take care and i will see you soon all right farewell you
