[Music] [Music] so [Music] this is catamount racetrack in milton vermont build as the home of the brave catamount gives thousands of race fans a thrilling spectacle every saturday night during the racing season last season race fans witnessed a different sort of spectacle and this is where it all happened my name is tom riley with vermont's project crash crash is part of a federal program designed to rid our nation's highways of the drunk driver and we'd like to share this spectacle with you because if you're like most of us you do drink and drive last summer we selected volunteers from the audience here at catamount racetrack because we wanted to run it in front of 4 000 race fans on a saturday night we picked just five from the many who volunteered this is the story of how those five people drove onto the effects of alcohol but before we get to the actual demonstration let's meet our five drinking drivers we first see them at a briefing session approximately 10 days before the big event i'm darwin yeah and i'm project director of crash in this state driving above 0.10 or from my case driving with more than six beers is illegal and we're it's not known by the general public one how much it has to drink to get to that level and secondly what happens to your driving skills once you get to that level and so we want to do two things one we want to demonstrate for the general public that driving above 0.10 does affect segregate the dry hills or you don't drive so good after you've had a few drinks and two we want to put it on film because if if it works and people can relate to you and you because you're volunteers your people who we don't know didn't know before who raised your hand in the audience and said i think i'd like to try this might be able to show other people coming behind you that it that maybe it's a little risky if i drink six beers or something and attempt to drive from here on the ground the drivers learn that they will be asked to drive through a special course on the track while sober then slightly impaired and finally impaired beyond the legal drinking driving limits each run will be scored so that each driver can be compared with himself as the alcohol in his or her bloodstream increases assure that all aspects of the demonstration will be carried out with care and safety the drivers signify their agreement by signing releases and receive the traditional one dollar bill to make it binding now let's get to know our drivers frank like all our volunteers is an avid race fan he is a 27 year old meat cutter who frequents a bar called the annex in a town several miles from the track uh how much cost do you think we ought to bring along with us probably probably the fish will do it uh you usually drink scotch when you're out yeah uh what do you drink at home scotch or vodka about your vodka do you uh drink much beer at all not too much just mostly scotch right you do most you're drinking out cars usually here at the annex you know you don't drink much at home no when you drink uh well first of all how often do you drink usually have a couple of bubbles tonight a couple of bottles every night you drink it uh every day then yeah i wanted to you drink a little more on the weekends yeah uh how much do you drink on the weekends oh i'd say over the weekend probably fifth probably fifth over the weekend uh well now you've got you're sort of a special person in our uh in our little experiment and then you're the only one that suffered a dwi conviction how much did you have that night you know well uh they did a urine test and they said it was 0.35 that's about 0.15 away from debt right do you have any idea of how much you drank that night uh it's just a black belt at least at least there was a little how often do you think maybe you've done this in the past in the past before the conviction for the conviction uh quite often and since your conviction uh i had the case that somebody else learned a lesson it's not worth walking for a year i just got a bill in the mail today for my insurance company the insurance rates are rather high how much do you think you can drink now and still navigate safely it depends on who's mixing the drinks uh my drinks a normal drink is two ounces in a glass but i usually throw about three so how many of those you think you can handle and still drive safely and say a four hour period of drinking oh eight eight so that's uh 24 ounces that's a fifth i don't think that and drive safely i think that i can drive impaired to a point above 100 but uh you're going to try and right i think that my uh my tolerance is is higher than somebody else that doesn't drink you know we'll find out on saturday night won't we right we visit joe bashaw at his uncle's farm the weatherman has promised thunderstorms and joe was trying to get his hay in before it hits joe was our youngest driver at 19. hey joe hey your little hand yeah a little bit all set for saturday night yeah i hope so you uh i think you're gonna give the light a project crash and drive better drunk and do this over ah sorry uh tell you do most of your drinking at home no not really i go out up the stub stop over i see uh and what do you generally drink beer usually and how much oven saturday friday and saturday night probably eight million uh-huh and you drink every day yeah usually at night do you ever drink any size beer sometimes i have a shot of liquor sometimes i shop out how often do you do that once a week or maybe nothing not much more than that you ever do any little extra celebrating like christmas and easter no yeah new year's two years how'd you do last nine years bad bad what did you put away well we had a fifth of uh black velvet and then we had two cases of beer and we were going to four in the morning actually who was driving uh it was right it was in walking distance oh so nobody had that drive well good listen uh we're looking forward to saturday night but before we take off um you know when we stop people tongue twisters earlier i gave you ours and you said you had one of your own yeah i want you to try it now and then we'll try it again saturday night after you've had a little bit to drink okay betty boston butter the better butter better but was better so better but some better butter make the bitter butter better but the bitter butter made a better bodybuilder well that sounds a little bit more complicated than around the rugged rock the rag and rascal ran she shall she shells under the seashore okay we'll try that again saturday night and i'll let you get back to your hang on okay thanks for tuning in next we stop in to see roger vincent a 27 year old technician roger has had a long time interest in cars what happened to it well i got a couple of bolts that shoot off the torque converter blowing the oil out on me so store it out find out what was wrong with it i'm gonna put it back i don't think so i'm gonna chuck the whole animal the whole thing get rid of it turn the engine out forget about it i guess what you're going to get i'm not going to get anything i got my other car so oh you all set for saturday night all set well what do you want us to provide you with saturday all i think slits will be good enough thanks drink beer yeah well how much do you think we're gonna have to feed you saturday night a couple six packs anyhow anyhow we should have we should have maybe a case on hand sounds good have you ever have you ever polished off a case in a day's time in a day's time drive afterwards no had a hard time walking roger uh we stopped people on the road you know we sometimes have them do manual dexterity tests and uh say tongue twisters and things i got one i want to lay on you right now okay so uh that's how you say around the rugged rock the ragged rascal ran around the rugged rock the rugged rascal ran that's pretty good uh we'll try again saturday night see how you do after you pack your two six-packs okay good enough thanks roger i managed to spend a few minutes with sue maynard at her office hi sue hi how are you all social saturday sure am i understand that you made a phone call in the office yesterday oh gosh i did you uh decided you want to back out or i had my doubts yes how do you feel about being the only woman involved in this little project um when i first found out i was it kind of bothered me a little bit i don't know it doesn't really too much now i guess you know it just doesn't bother me anymore a lot of people give me hassles about it you know parents and stuff but i think it's all right i just want to find out a little bit about uh how experienced a drinker you are so we know how much we're going to have to provide you with now uh what do you what do you usually drink um usually it depends if i have a move i'm in if sometimes i won't i usually drink beer or something but i like tequila you usually drink beer yeah when how often do you drink beer a couple times a week maybe a couple times a week and when you do how much do you drink at one time six packs or more six packs tuesday nights are bowling night and we usually go out and have a fee with the girls then you work up a thirst yeah you do most of your drinking uh out with girlfriends or on a date or um yeah sometimes during the day when i'm home all i do i see and when you don't drink beer you drink tequila usually when you drink more than you usually drink how much do you drink what kilowatts mean or just adding anything okay let's see probably about i can drink about half a pizza tequila and be all right so i feel you know but any more than that and i usually i get pretty drunk i guess don't i usually like i don't know forget what i'm doing stuff like that uh half a foot do you uh i'm not trying to put you on the spot but uh how often do you drive after you've had a half a day i never drive my drink all right oh you don't drive at all anything of course you're a little bit more fortunate than most of us you probably have somebody to drive you yeah i call a cab and that's what you drive two drivers i see um told me you have a pretty good tongue twister that you could do better drunk than sober you want to run through it for me oh i slew the sheet and she actually up on the sled she like did well we'll try that again saturday night after a little bit okay sue thanks a lot for taking time while you're at work and uh we'll see you saturday noon sharp okay okay dave de laurier is another driver with a real interest in cars and displays his current set of wheels in front of a friend's service station dave is 19 and works at a local manufacturing plant i lost my license for a few days how did you manage to pull that not for dwi speeding violation when did you get the speeding violation last november they certainly took the time about picking up your license didn't they i guess they wanted to wait till uh near vacation time so try to blow them up just to make it a little more convenient for you well let's see you were going to drink what here i think would uh secret seven statement seven i would like to uh running a little bit more horsepower 350 horse in this engine for just a 383. what do you get for gas mileage about 14 on the interstate about six in the city six in the city it's not it's almost like my blazer right but it runs a little bit faster well david we're going to try uh you know when we stop people on the road we ask for some tongue twisters and i want to try one on you now and we'll try it again saturday night see how you do let me hear you say around the rugged rock the ragged rascal ran around the rugged rock was ragged last morning that's pretty good we'll try again saturday night sue frank dave joe and roger come early on saturday to practice the course in front of empty stands all right susan we're going to be running these cones over here first in the serpentine we come through there now after you get some practice you'll be able to do it in about 25 seconds through to where that gets then you take this decreasing radius curve into that simulated garage while we're giving sue and the others a few practice runs let's take a look at the course the course begins with a series of sharp curves called the serpentine traffic cones mark each side and the course is especially tough because of the slant of the track the cones are set nine feet apart and allow only one foot of clearance on either side of the car the winding serpentine ends with a decreasing radius curve into a simulated garage on the infield the driver must stop with his front bumper one foot from the cones at the end of the garage then he must back out through the curb and stop in position to begin the high speed lane change it's possible to complete this much of the course in 45 seconds or less [Music] then on a given signal the driver rapidly accelerates to 30 miles an hour when his bumper reaches the first set of cones he's given a command on the track's loudspeaker system and by the flag man to go either left or right he then must swerve into the proper lane without hitting any of the cones or large boxes marking the left and right traffic lanes a state trooper rides with a driver on all runs practice is over it's time to measure each person's driving ability in the dry runs before he becomes impaired by alcohol here's how the scoring works a driver will lose one point for each cone or box knocked down and one point for each second over the 45 second standard for completing the first part of the course in the high speed lane change a driver will lose five points if he either hits his brakes or goes into the wrong lane drivers can gain points too if they complete the first part of the course in less than 45 seconds they gain one point for each second under the standard 45 we'll check the dry run scores shortly now comes the fun part [Music] you can't show that each driver had three dry runs and an average score has been computed the standings look like this dave has the best score with a minus two followed by roger with a minus four frank with a minus five joe with minus seven and sue with -22 car numbers one through five are assigned to the drivers according to these standings each volunteer's alcohol intake is carefully measured and plotted so that the first wet runs just before race time will be made with a blood alcohol concentration of about .05 percent or about one half of the state's legal limit of 0.10 bac with the stands filling rapidly the first wet runs are made on the first wet run dave has about four drinks in his bloodstream with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.06 and an average score for two passes through the course of minus six compared with his dry score of minus two [Music] because roger is pretty light the four drinks in his bloodstream put him up to a bac of 0.09 and his score jumps to a minus 26 compared with a dry score of minus four [Music] frame at .06 shows a slight loss of driving skill with a score of minus six joe with a bac of .05 has exactly the same score as on his dry run a minus seven ensues score drops to a minus 28 with three drinks and a bac of 0.06 except for roger whose bac shot up to 0.09 our drivers show little loss of driving skills in our first wetland they have bacs of about 0.05 the point where most normal social drinkers call it quits and stay out of trouble on the highway after these runs during the first series of races the drinking begins in earnest and the volunteers begin showing signs of alcohol impairment yeah from here it looks like it comes kind of fast yes it does it does because it doesn't sound like he's doing it until about two inches before you get to the things that i thought was gonna rain i did man the camera ends right there just going around and i just boom right through it i loved it [Music] before i get out there again but i think the rocks are going to start catching up i don't think they're going through as good perfect need another boilermaker very soon i'm still uh sipping on that number one driver but i could use the number two job uh hope to reach 0.35 you're gonna try for three five right and wind up backing out of the snow bank again dave's a point ahead of me but we're gonna catch him okay and you think you're gonna drive just as well uh i drove better i think on the wet runs timelines going through the s's and uh except that you knocked down more cones no i didn't yes you did your score was worse it was oh well joe actually you did this you did the same as you did last time uh the first time yes you're only 0.5 you're working on a little bit more now you think yeah this is about my sixth seventh one already i'm working on it okay well we don't want you to let us down you know we don't expect to get yeah you don't want any of these uh these city fellas to uh get a higher what optimal concentration than you do no this is almost empty i'll go on another one right now okay would you like a little add a little something to it or well don't make me no difference i don't care all right so you want to try that tongue twister for me again uh very boston butter the betty bought was brilliant somebody bought some butter butter make the bitter butter better but the breeder butter made the better butter do you want to try around the rugged rock the ragged wrestler ran on rugged rock the rugged rascal rant oh it wasn't the rugged rascals you know they're all in addition to recording the number of drinks consumed each participant's actual bac is taken on a breathalyzer prior to the wet run all tests are supervised by the state police it's intermission just before the feature race of the evening the stands are packed and our five drinking drivers take to the track first we have dave at .13 with eight beers under his belt dave's dry score shows he's a good driver but with a minus 12 average on these second wet runs he does six times worse with this much [Music] [Applause] alcohol on the other hand roger another beer drinker does a little better than he did on the first wet run when his bac was .09 still with a bac of 0.12 his score of -20 is five times worse than his dry score of minus four frank drinking boiler makers with a bac of 0.13 scores of -19 three times worse than a score of -5 [Applause] joe drives with the highest bac of all at 0.14 and gets a minus 16. while sioux on tequila has the most colorful ride [Applause] [Music] [Music] of course there's always a morning after but this one's a little different because we have newsreel footage of the night before most of our drivers still felt they performed rather well [Music] [Applause] when you start to react you you act a little bit late and then you overreact you can't get back in line fast enough watch this one the time before when you hit clipped the right side of the cones coming into the lane change get [Laughter] though somebody else's course wow right back to the wall must be laughing straight yeah now that you've seen the runs and we've told you the score and the ranking anybody doubt us to the positions to the scoring to your ability i myself thought i did better on the first wet run than i did on the dry runs but it shows up that i did you didn't do that bad on your first wet runs but you were only at an old six and i remind you that's just the starting of impairment that wasn't uh i felt a lot more uncomfortable driving at 06. something you shouldn't learn about yourselves in alcohol not the driving part of it [Applause] once you get under the influence of alcohol and influences after four or five drinks then the alcohol takes over you remember doing as poorly as it looked on those films i thought i was doing better i thought when i went through that last run i thought i made it perfect but i knocked down a whole slide and you didn't see them no i thought i did you know i thought i went right through and he's not getting any cones but i guess i did dave when i went through it and i wiped him out i didn't feel it i asked the cop he said he didn't feel it either but he was just going along with me next week because i didn't i felt one that was it all the rest must have just been smooth i felt it but i didn't believe it sort of numb on the last wet run i uh i wasn't back at david david went first and i had thoughts that i wanted to beat him to get a better score and then i had thoughts well why don't i do something nice for the crowd and tag the wall now would you have driven home under similar uh alcohol drinking experiences had you not been out of catamouth not been demonstrating you can't drink and drive yeah definitely because i always i don't know probably i think so joe would have you would have driven home yeah give her a choice of a taxi or a car your car probably would have jimmy i can't appear [Music] sue joe dave roger frank each of our five drinking drivers is an individual quite a different person but in one way they're all alike when they get too much alcohol in their systems and get behind the wheel they're dangerous they didn't know they hit all those cones until they saw the news film as we just saw if they had driven home they could have been in a different kind of newsreel the kind we see all too often of the carnage on our highways fortunately all they hit were a few traffic cones and boxes not cars or people in fact all of us who drink and drive are alike in this respect combine too many drinks with an automobile and wore a menace on the track or on the road few of us could have done any better than our five drinking drivers my business is putting people on the highway and we certainly don't need more any more drinking drivers than we already have i'm gonna vote no my sister six years ago was critically injured in a automobile accident to the cause of a drunk driver on the road i'm opposed to liquor buy the drink because i've lived in atlanta and i don't want a bar on every street corner in our town so i'm going to vote no that's going to increase drunken drivers in the city and it's unsafe i'm just gonna vote no against liquor by the drink [Music] with all these points the [Music] is [Music] hey the food you're still a bachelor tomorrow's almost here so why are you still a free man let's bring on the beer oh i'm just nice to remember it's so clear you deserve to celebrate with more taste than beer the booze gotta taste so they so bowl so smooth let's all party with the six more lickable don't say be a single hey gang how about another bull no one doesn't [Music] [Music] [Music] no hi everybody welcome skip alzheimer uh welcome to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show got it things started off with a bang um five drinking drivers which came out 74 74-75 my printer is beeping um and this test of getting people drunk and then having them drive an obstacle course shows up in at least two other films i have one of them is uh called alco beat which was set probably in the mid 60s like 10 years prior um and then i have another one which i can't remember the title of but it's it's a common test um and it is lots of fun to watch in both cases there's a it's in a like uh um race track and there's people in the bleachers uh and i'm sure there's lots of cheering on and laughing and all that stuff you know it's obviously it's for a serious purpose but it's still hilarious to watch trump trump drunk people uh miss cones and freak out and all that stuff so uh yeah good times and then uh that followed up with some uh commercials i had one of them was for drinking was for liquor by the drink in north carolina which did not pass the time but did eventually pass um and then some awesome schlitz commercials that i have uh really quite something um where am i going with this oh yeah so uh today is monday thanks everybody for tuning in um you're welcome to donate to av geeks uh get biased coffee and uh tomorrow's my birthday so i on facebook did a fundraiser for raising money not for me but for planned parenthood the regional planned parenthood uh because i'm a big supporter of reproductive health especially for people that can't afford it and i'd certainly have used planned parenthood for tests and birth control back in the day back in the when i was a extremely poor college student so i have benefited from it um so more information than you ever really want to know but uh anyways so any money that you donate to me for coffee uh i'm just gonna pass on to planned parenthood unless you say like please just buy coffee with this um anyhow uh so happy to see everybody today um this is a wonderful distraction it's beautiful outside but there is some police activity outside uh about two houses down there's police tape and there was talk of a somebody being shot somebody throwing an air compressor at somebody else a severed arm there's a lot of news that's kind of circulating around the neighborhood which is just kind of crazy kind of crazy so we're going to stay inside and turn our hands down and watch films from the 70s 60s etc so there we go so this next film is um it's called noise so here's some noise noise noise noises are part of our everyday lives some noises bother or disturb us some noises are pleasant [Music] how are you doing i a little fella as you watch and listen notice which noises are disturbing [Music] and how people are affected by them i know he's getting much better you're gonna be quite a thrilling rembrandt for me to jump in the water and try flaming on top of water kicking my feet and doing my hands i just touching them i really did i was the only one who did [Applause] [Music] [Music] me [Music] ah so [Music] so so so [Music] [Music] boys and girls let's put our books away now please now let's try putting them away a little more quietly take them out now let's put them away again yesterday we started our study of prehistoric animals let's review today some of the things that we learned yesterday debbie would you start please well first the earth was covered with water and the weapon in your land when the water lowered or sunk the ant rose okay teachers well there was there wasn't anything on earth but marine life and there were a long time after reptiles came and they breathed through lungs and they the reptiles were big and some were meat-eaters and some were plant-eaters then after the reptiles became met then they became mammals with hair and as you know they developed after the it had library they lived primarily on land oh uh okay you come back in an hour okay doctors so [Music] uh oh [Music] [Music] satellite is circling the globe every four hours [Music] and then it just ends um [Laughter] it's just about noise uh there you go that's fascinating um yeah i had not seen that before um so it doesn't even have a title um and you can find i'm going to look at my database real quick and see if it gives me any more insight i have a lot of films about noise no make a noise noise by don dickerson 1970 describes various types of noise familiar to young children and raises the question what is the difference between sound and noise how much does noise affect the quality of our lives and how much noise can we tolerate well in a very passive way it asks us questions i guess um really fascinating right uh it's not much not much fun being angry and this film talks about that here it is it's not much fun being it's angry and you hardly even know you the most important person in the whole wide world is you come on we'll show you let's find out more about the things you feel and do cause you're the most important person in the world to you that's it that's the last straw absolutely the last straw what is it bird i just never thought the last scroll the last straw sure is angry angry did i hear you say angry i'm more than that i'm furious it's all right to be angry bird it is huh sure everybody could thank me sometime so what do you do about it i tried punching a pillow i squeezed on clay i drew an angry picture sometimes it helps to talk about it what are you angry about look the last straw somebody came and took all my straw i was gonna build a new nest now what have i got one piece of straw what do you think did it i have a pretty good idea well hi there friends i bet you're all admiring what i've done cleaned up the whole yard isn't it beautiful why are you bragging about it too wait a minute what is this hey hold on now talk about your anger bird what's fighting going to saul all right bird i'm gonna get angry too that's the last straw you see he admitted it you're a super bad talk to each other please tell them why you're angry you took my straw that's why and you know it that was your straw i picked up you knew it laying all over the yard i thought it was only a mess gee bird you must be angry he was gonna build a new nest oh i'm terribly sorry if somebody would have told me i guess i could have told you first or ask you before i beat you up little bird sometimes words can anger people all right i didn't beat you up i'm sorry and i'm sorry i threw your straw away why don't we all help bird fly new straw great idea please there are some things a bird must do for himself bird you better not do that it's not yours somebody will get angry shoo you nasty little bird oh shoot i think you put what do you mean by pecking at my pillow you get me so angry well buddy now you know how it feels she sure was angry i tried to talk with her about it you even tried to say you're sorry we heard sometimes talking just doesn't work but she honestly tried and that's important too you know being angry is no fun i'm sure glad i'm not angry anymore but tired i'm very tired and when you're tired the best thing to do is did he say rest [Music] [Applause] the most important yeah so that was part of a series of um the most important person series which someone uh pointed out it aired on during captain kangaroo uh captain kangaroo would have little shorts that they would show um over the span of that television show and that's one of them i have several films in that series um yeah angry birds too that's funny no pigs in that though uh this next film is um you know i've been going through since i have this uh film transfer machine here telecini uh i've been going through and picking films just going to the archives and pulling films that i haven't seen so you guys are benefiting from seeing a lot of films that we haven't seen i mean i'm mixing it in with films that i have digitized and seen but there's a lot of new stuff uh noise was one of those ones that was uh we haven't seen and so i'm excited that you guys are watching these films along with me uh watching stuff that we just haven't seen before so that's great uh this next film i just uh it's called we're okay and uh it's supposedly a film about transactional analysis does anybody know what transactional analysis is uh also known as ta some of you might have seen the book ta is for tots it talks about um coal prickly's and warm fuzzies um so here it is we're okay [Music] [Music] [Music] i'm not okay you're okay wow thank you [Music] uh [Music] i'm okay you're not okay [Music] [Music] oh [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm not okay you're not okay these scenes all have something in common a hidden part of each individual's personality has taken over causing a lot of bad feelings what are these hidden parts there are three ego states that exist in all people a parent a child and an adult our parent records all the rules and laws both useful and harmful which we receive from our parents don't play with matches don't play with matches our child records all the feelings both good and bad which we experienced as children i'm a bad boy our adult even in childhood helps us figure out things for ourselves ow it is my opinion that matches are dangerous for little children the trick is to get our parent adult and child working together when we do we feel okay and other people seem okay to us let's take another look at the not okay scenes we portrayed earlier this person is dominated by his child he often is afraid to trust himself he's always trying to please the big people the bosses the teachers the parents but he never seems to be good enough he always feels like a loser this person bullies her way through life making sure that she controls every situation the parent in her wants to make sure that everyone but her is a loser a conflict between this person's parent and child causes him to distrust everybody he is certain everyone loses in the game of life including himself why does life so often seem to be a matter of winning and losing because most of us adopt a not okay life position when we're children we often grow up believing that this is the way we really are [Music] the more we have not okay feelings about ourselves or others the harder it is to be comfortable with people for instance we all need recognition almost as much as food and air we need approval by other people we need them to stroke us with words and touch them but sometimes we get bad strokes then the childhood starts to feel bad not okay [Music] so we start giving bad strokes you bad boy go to your room and do your homework and we receive bad strokes in return so we store up more not okay feelings about ourselves and about other people these stored up not okay feelings build up until they start dominating our lives you heard your mother get busy and do your homework ah what's the use i'll never pass anyway these not okay feelings occur again and again as we grow up where's that report let's get busy and get it done charlie ah what's the use i'll never figure out how to do it anyway the child in him is now blindly certain that he's not okay the parent in him is now smugly convinced that other people are not okay so the two of them begin to play games with each other why does this always happen to me i'm only trying to help you what if we saw our transactions as they really are we must first be aware of the problem before we can hope to change why does this always happen to me i'm only trying to help you if we could see how foolish we are we might want to change to do that we have to start treating ourselves and others as okay hi charlie are you going to get that report out on time the nervous guy telling you how to do your job take your feet off your desk when the boss is talking to you it would take a bigger man than you to make me buster do you hear the way he's talking to you i don't hear a thing we can refuse to play not okay games but we have to work at it what were you saying ben i said are you going to get that report out on time yeah i'm just trying to figure out how to go about it it's got some tough problems well we need to meet that deadline so let me know when it's ready okay i'll do my best to have it done in time by assuming that we're all okay we can function better and feel better about ourselves in the [Music] process of course this was also the book i'm okay you're okay which was a bestseller in the 70s transactional analysis um i have actually a couple of those in my uh um a couple of different films made for different age groups talking about it i don't know it's it's interesting it's got its positives and it's negatives it's it's uh um so anyways this next film is actually really great this is a kind of an uh compilation film of uh different kids uh it'll explain it in the um um in the beginning credits uh but this is different kids uh making films about life so here it is and it's canadian so here we go lifetime's nine mm-hmm [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] life life life life life life it's okay sometimes it's fun crazy it's nothing nothing today i am living tomorrow i may not be so now there is light in my eyes tomorrow there may not be jolly good life day yeah life is in the sun life is in the rain in the snow in the dark in the blue purple or black with yellow dots commonly known as stars life is friends lots of fun quiet times with good friends together times with good friends if there were no living animals or nature what would living be tomorrow's another living day maybe not for me maybe for shauna oh well i'm looking forward until tomorrow we want to sell you a tank a tank that you can call your very own now just look at this every new tank is made with a new aluminum alloy that makes it lighter and easier to maneuver and double belted tracks for better performance it can get up to 10 miles to the gallon at close to 30 miles an hour in any kind of weather every tank comes with an optional firing cannon with machine guns and flamethrowers as standard equipment on every machine this complex 50-ton piece of equipment can be yours and it's simple we want you to join the army we boast the biggest fleet of artillery tanks in the world and the chance to choose a profession and to learn it right on the job you'll get a chance to learn about tanks and perhaps even command one of your own and if tanks aren't your specialty maybe you'll get a chance to become a specialist in machine guns and help ship them to our fighting boys all over the world now when all's considered wouldn't you rather be part of it and so you can join the army and all this can be yours and remember it's the biggest army it's the best army and it's the strongest army in all the world that's got the most planes and the most tanks and the most ships and the fastest jets and the biggest bombs [Music] [Music] okay okay can a man get any peace even when he's dead do you fancy going back to life for a while are you kidding i wouldn't touch that stuff again oh come on how about going for a good slap up meal huh [Music] you can stop that how about going for a bike ride [Music] forget it golf um [Music] dancing forget it tennis [Applause] [Music] idiot swimming mom and dad music the kids the flowers the fun that is i came back i came back and we're glad they did all right wouldn't you want to come back to life for one reason or another this is a peanut he can't help living a sheltered life but you can don't be a nut break out of yourself do what you want to do be what you want to be go where you're going to there's nobody left here with me just sing on stage [Music] together now for everyone [Music] so i don't know why we're doing this commercial anyway we're only getting minimum wages i make the same moves over and over again life is so repetitive and how about the rook pawn he hardly gets to move at all how would you like to live such a sheltered life ah here i go again have fun this corner gets to be such a drag what a life nine to five i wish i was out of this cycle me too oh your chaps here i go oh i wish i was on the board i would do so much better than those players yes this is so tiresome just standing here watching and waiting [Music] it's not that i don't love you but lying next to you for so long is so boring a queen has to get out and be social you know oh i wish i was playing life [Music] appreciate [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] let's foreign [Music] um uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so those were basically like short ads um that they had kids make they had them come up with and and scripted and probably had adults shoot it but um yeah somebody uh on one of the comments said how did these kids get so bitter at such a young age yeah man 70s cynicism all that stuff uh so let's see this next film um i have again i have not seen this but uh this is a visit to the dentists courtesy of filmfare communications [Music] wow [Music] [Music] paddington stared at the kitchen sink as if he could hardly believe his eyes my tooth's gone down the waste disposal he exclaimed i shall be able to put it under my pillow and get sixpence now i'm very sorry said mrs brown it must have got mixed up with the breakfast things it was my best tool said paddington i've cleaned it twice a day ever since i first had it i don't know what aunt lucy could say she'd probably say you shouldn't have eaten that everlasting toffee you made last week it wouldn't have fallen out then i think said mrs bird we'd better pay a visit to the dentist we don't want any more trouble besides it's an emergency emergency or not said mr leech the dentist i'm afraid i shall have to charge extra bears have 42 teeth that's 10 more than usual i've only got 41 said paddington one of mine's been disposed of that's still more than i'm used to now take your scarf off and i'll see what i can do nurse where are you i do hope we're doing the right thing said mrs brown paddington's never been to the dentist before i don't suppose mr leech has had bears before either said mrs bird i'd like to know what's going on in there you have a large piece of tooth missing said mr leech i shall have to make a new gold top for it a gold top extent paddington i thought only milk bottles had those mr leech decided to ignore the remark no don't forget he said this will bother me much more than it does you i'm very glad of that said paddington yeah yes well i'm going to put this piece of wax in your mouth so that i can find out the shape of your teeth now say ah and when i put it in take a good hard bite i'll do my best said paddington ah very good now once more and don't forget from now on whatever happens don't let go uh said paddington oh cried mr leech oh shouted paddington excitedly no yelled mr leech repeated paddington gripping harder than ever it's no good said mrs brown i can't stand it a moment longer here here grieve mrs bird what are you doing to that poor bear poor poor bear what about my thumb look look at it perhaps you'd like one of these toffees mr leech said paddington i made them myself and they're very good for taking your mind off things [Music] thank you said mr leech thank you very much i wouldn't if i were you warm mrs bird remember what happened to paddington i think mr leech is having the same sort of trouble with his teeth as i was with mine the sooner you get rid of those top is the better said mrs bird paddington put on his injured expression i'm doing my best he said but nobody seems to like them very much he was about to suggest mr leech tried saying ah but he seemed to be having enough trouble with his mm's so he thought better of it instead he got ready to leave i think he announced mr leech is the best dentist i've ever been to i shall always come here when i've had a tooth disposed of he said it was going to bother him much more than it did me and he's quite right it has mine feels better already [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] one day mr brown arranged to take everyone out to lunch at a new restaurant he'd been told about paddington arrived first and to pass the time he consulted his favorite book the duncan hide good food guide mr hyde went around the country testing restaurants awarding the ones he liked best special hats as prizes the very best were given bowler hats but as far as paddington could make out the present one didn't rate even so much as a cloth cap all the same his mouth was starting to water and it began to water even more when he caught sight of the sweet trolley the browns were still nowhere in sight so he came to a decision it seemed much more sensible to wait for them inside the restaurant bonjour monsieur may i be over systemates ask the waiter as paddington jr no thank you said paddington sadly i was only looking i think some of the sweets on that trolley might be worth a bowler in my food guide to paddington's surprise his words seem to have a magical effect on the waiter and he immediately fetched the manager i can't tell you how delighted we are that you've honored us with a visit he boomed you can't explain paddington in surprise pray follow me said the manager thank you very much said paddington i've put you in a window sir so that everyone can see so that you can see better now may i find something to titivate your palate yes please said paddington legally but i'm not sure if i could afford it my dear sir we don't want to bother ourselves with me and money don't we exclaim pennington certainly not said the manager our chef is at your disposal we want you to feel completely at home oh i do already said paddington when can i start i'm hungry well said the manager i can recommend our avocado pear filled with seafresh prawns or there's dover fresh soul farm fresh veal often fresh steak and kidney pudding i think i'd like to try some of each please paddington announce rashly my palate's very titivated some of each i must say so you take your job very seriously would you care to test one of our rare old wines as well paddington considered the matter for a moment i think i'd soon have some tin fresh cocoa he said but not too hot please i'm having lunch with mr and mrs brown at one o'clock another lunch good gracious i better leave you to your task sir but i do hope you'll see fit to mention us when the time comes oh yes said paddington happily i shall tell all my friends just as soon as i finished and what asked mrs brown are you doing paddington we were expecting to find you outside said mr brown i wish you had grown paddington oh i've eaten too much paddington echoed the way to paddington do you mean to say we thought you was duncan i'd come to test our dishes for the guide by the look of the bill said mr brown he'll be testing the washing up machine gosh said jonathan it's over 17 pounds there's two pounds for a peach surprise said judy i've got another surprise said well that's just annoying just annoying i wanted to know how to work how it all came out but the
