welcome everybody to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show i'm skip alzheimer um it's friday before halloween and i thought about well i could show some spooky films that i have for my collection but you know i've done that and you know something i haven't really done is show films that do have an aspect of horror to them uh first aid films and so i have two first aid films i'm going to show you today um i like them because they have this aspect of melodrama to them and they also uh have some fake gore sometimes uh and uh so we'll start off with the first one um which is are you ready or not enjoy [music] [music] it is generally understood that it's best to call a doctor in case of an emergency rather than attempt first aid ourselves but what about those particular emergencies where immediate [music] action is required for life and there's no time to seek help are you ready or not by learning to follow a few simple steps you can be ready to cope with most [music] emergencies you may encounter this could be you driving along minding your own business and suddenly you spot a body beside the [music] road are you ready or not stop the car what's the situation [music] what should you do she's bleeding badly and they're probably broken bones she shouldn't be moved now what first check her heart to see if she's alive by listening or feeling for a heartbeat next see if she's breathing always make sure there's nothing around her nose or mouth to prevent her from getting air now quickly check for excessive bleeding and broken bones that's a serious wound she could die from loss of blood if it's not attended to immediately what should you do regardless of the location on the body direct pressure on a wound will stop even the most severe bleeding use the cleanest cloth available fold it into a pad and place it directly over the wound apply pressure by tying it firmly in place for wounds in the neck area apply pressure with the hand only if the pad becomes blood soaked don't remove it just make up another one apply it over the old one and re-tie firmly in cases of severe bleeding you should never leave the victim always wait until help happens by after you've checked and treated for stopped breathing and excessive bleeding you've done all that's necessary to save life now treat for shock which usually follows an accident if it's possible and safe place the victim in a prone position and cover her with a cloth or blanket the idea is to prevent her from getting cold not to make her warm these procedures are simple and worth remembering especially when it can mean the difference between saving a life or death [music] [music] [music] this could be you on your way home from school [music] and this could be anyone playing a kid's game or is he [music] what's the situation he's alive he's breathing there's no bleeding or broken bones there's nothing more to do but go for help there should be someone at home so [music] it looks like it is it's poison there's a phone call for help in strange surroundings even the simplest antidote can be difficult to find if this is the case the safest procedure is to dilute the poison with water or milk until help arrives otherwise follow the recommended antidote do not induce vomiting unless the antidote requires it repeat [music] do not induce vomiting the combination of vomiting and certain types [music] of poison can be more harmful than the poison itself before administering liquids [music] make sure the victim is conscious otherwise he could drown from [music] in following a few simple steps this young lady possibly saved a life do you recall what those steps were making sure he was alive she quickly checked for breathing excessive bleeding and broken bones satisfied these were not the source of the child's condition she went for help upon discovering an open bottle of poison and unsure of the whereabouts of an antidote she did the safest thing possible she diluted the poison [music] [music] [music] [music] this this could be an emergency right now [music] [music] what's the situation what should you do [music] first check her heart is she alive can she breathe if not [music] check for debris in her mouth wrap something soft around your finger and thoroughly wipe out her mouth you have less than five minutes to get her breathing before the lack of oxygen causes brain damage press your thumb under her chin forcing the head back so the chin is facing up wrapper sharply on the chest to shake any obstructions loose breathing should resume if it doesn't continue by forcing the head back again pinch the nostrils completely cover her mouth with yours and force air in until the chest rises indicating she's getting air if she isn't hit her sharply between the shoulder blades and begin again by cleaning them out thoroughly it only takes a tiny piece of matter [music] to cause spasm in the throat and restrict the air passage thumb under chin forcing [music] the head back this clears the tongue from the air passage wrapper sharply on the chest if breathing doesn't resume head back pinch the nostrils to keep air from escaping mouth over hers and force air in until the chest rises that's it let her exhale continue forcing in air at a rate comparable to your breathing until you're sure she can breathe on her own the victim can breathe and is not bleeding excessively go for help if poison is discovered follow the antidote if possible if not dilute the poison with water or milk until help arrives do not induce vomiting unless required make sure victim is conscious before giving liquid if the victim has stopped breathing thoroughly clean them up force the head back wrap high on the chest if breathing doesn't resume force the head back pinch the nostrils cover the mouth with yours and force air in if breathing doesn't resume wrap sharply between the shoulder blades and begin again repeat these steps as many times as necessary until the air passage is clear and the victim can breathe on her own if you can treat excessive bleeding [music] poisoned by mouth and stopped breathing you are ready to save a life [music] [music] so [music] i like the drama in that one it's so great okay now we're gonna get a little uh different i always you know end up challenging myself and in doing so it challenges you the viewer so um this next film was from a collector uh from the oregon archive and he calls it the emergency uh first aid suite so basically what he did is he had a bunch of films um color uh first aid films that were silent um that he kind of tacked all together onto one big reel and so we scan them all they're silent but visually it's really stunning because they're almost all done um against a back a black background so it's like they're in some sort of weird limbo doing these things uh and i did have to cut out some gore there was a an open wound that was like pumping blood that i kind of took out because i know that it's lunchtime um but uh since it's silent i was like what can i do to make this interesting uh and besides you know having the the purr of the projector i was like you know what i i want to have some music and so i um looked at the internet archives 78 uh audio collection and pulled some film or not films pulled some audio um from some old 78 records um that i thought might fit um it's all films or films so i got films on the brain um all songs about being hurt or about hurting someone so this is um yeah this is my attempt uh so the film is uh we call uh first emergency first aid suite and we have a variety of songs about being hurt uh we'll see if the copyright hammer comes down on these um the copyright on these is really weird because of audio copyrights um look it up anything that's before i think 72 it's you had to register the copyright in a state and not there wasn't a way to do it with the federal archive office so um these who knows what's gonna happen it might all come crashing down but um enjoy it while you can uh if i don't say say goodbye i'll see you on next monday hopefully live in person and otherwise enjoy this feeling was roughly is oh just let me is i'm glad they're gone um [music] [music] [singing] [music] chance to see [singing] you cry i'd be so blue [singing] i'd want to die i wouldn't want your arms [singing] me if i couldn't treat [music] you tenderly [singing] i wouldn't hurt you [singing] me [music] [music] [music] hmm [music] [music] [music] i wouldn't hurt you [singing] the world should [music] [singing] i chance to see you cry i'd be if i couldn't treat [music and singing] you tenderly i [music] wouldn't hurt you for the [singing] world [music] so why [singing] should you learn [music] [music] for a year [music] i've been trying to forget you for a year i've been living alive all my teardrops have died within me i'm hurt too much to cry when i think of the vows that are broken and the way that you told me goodbye i'm beyond [music] every stage of weeping i'm hurt too much to cry so [music] do [music] everyone knows that you let me down dear and i'm sure they are wondering why [music] they can see i'm so lost without you and heard too much to cry after all [singing] that you've done i still love you and i will till the day that i die so wherever you are just remember i'm hurt too much to cry [music] [music] i like the bathroom again the fence pose ew that clout be on me chin with the iron bar follow me pause this son you're gonna knock your brains out yeah but they'd never hurt me none so far some fellas like the girls who take them dancing but you just ain't in the swim without a car oh i'd rather bounce me knocking off a cement wall cause it ain't never hurt me none so far people seem to wonder why i never go a court and lots of pretty girls look up at me and smile compared to bare feet in the mud they're rolling in the rice bin wasting time on coils just ain't worthwhile i like the socky topknot with a hammer hey the universe lights up just like a star oh i'll spend me time with lumps and bumps instead of oils cause it ain't never hurt me none so far [music] he never hurt me none so far i should worry i should fret if other fellas seem to get the most exotic cuties in the town yeah i'd rather climb the highest elm tree in the neighborhood because it feels so good when i come tumbling down i like the soccer top not with a hammer gee the univoice lights up just like a star oh i'll spend my time with lumps and bumps and static oils cause it i never hurt my nun so far [music] [music] hey [music] nobody's gonna hurt you [music and singing] baby nobody's gonna hurt you baby [music] [music] lay your heart in my hand i'll give all my love [music] to you i want you [singing] [music] [singing] nobody's [music] gonna relax and take it easy i'll show [music] you what i loved about [singing] and when i finish [music] loving you baby you will have no doubt nobody's gonna hurt you [music and singing] baby [music] [music] is [music] [music] [singing] baby nobody [music] baby think of my feelings i've wanted you for so long [music] [music] baby [music] i'm in love with you [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] you always heard the one you love [singing] the one you shouldn't hurt at [singing] you all take the sweetest rolls and crush it till the petals fall you all break the kindest heart with a hasty word you can't recall [singing] so if i broke [singing] [music] your heart last night it's because i love you most of all [singing] [music] foreign [music] [music] [music] [music] so [music] [ __ ] [music] you always [singing] break the kindness heart with a hasty word you can't recall i broke your heartless light it's because i love you most of all [music] now i have a good notion to punch you on the nose oh yeah you just listen to me baby you can punch me on the nose beat me with a hole step on all my toes and [music] i will say baby you'll never hurt me that way [singing] [music] you can kick me on a shin knock me off my pins i'll be in a [singing] daze but i'll still say baby you'll never hurt me that way [music] this may sound funny to you it's funny honey but true just say you love somebody new and baby you will see how hurt i can be you can push me off a cliff beat me till i'm still knock me for a loop but i'll still say [music] baby you'll never hurt me that way [music] right [music] [music] this may [singing] sound funny to you it's [music] funny honey but true just say [music] you love somebody new and baby you will see how hurt i can be you can push me off the cliff beat me till i'm still knock me for a loop but i'll [music] still say [singing] baby you'll never hurt me that way you'll never hurt me that way foreign do better foreign [music] oh oh [music] [screaming] [music] [music] i don't hurt anymore all my teardrops are dry no more [music] just to think [music] it could be time has opened [music] the door and at last i am free [music] the day you said we were through [music] now that i find you're out of my [music and singing] mind i can't believe that it's true i've forgotten somehow that i can't [music] so [singing] before and it's wonderful [music] now i don't [singing] hurt anymore [music] [music] hey [music] i can't deny i wanted to die the day you said we were through [music and singing] now that i find you're out of my mind i can't believe [music and singing] that it's true i've [singing] [music] and it's wonderful now i don't hurt anymore [singing] [music] my fondest wish for you if [music] you're happy then i congratulate you though i feel so [music] hard [singing] [music] so [music] [music] [music] it don't hurt anymore and at last so did we make it
