e is hello everybody I'm SK Alzheimer welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mm films and think about them uh that was another home movie by the comden family and that was from 1957 to 1959 that's what the compilation reel is called but it's a it's a long reel um so we only watched some of it but we will revisit it um because it's really I love home movies uh my home movies is not as much but just the voyerism is actually really great and that's why we do home movie days and we did a home movie day uh in the spring and it was great and home movie day is actually coming up internationally in October and we'll probably do something to celebrate we won't actually do a iners home movie day but we'll do something to celebrate the cultural uh importance and significance of Home Movies anyhow uh so behind me someone sent me a film in the mail and it is awesome and let me see if I can remember the name of who sent it um I'm looking at my email it was Lou uh brei uh and he sent me well he offered me one film which was uh vinegar but we actually have a couple of copies of it but he said hey I have this other film uh are you interested in this and I was like oh yeah and he said well it's got vinegar smell to it so it's stinky which means that it's broken down uh but here we go let's uh switch over uh let's see that's not the name of it let going on oh I I understand all right well I'll change the title when I get there enjoy [Music] I going to way that what what why I'm going to weigh this package on the scale scale oh why is to tell us how much things weigh huh well everything has weight and the scale tells us how many pounds now look this is a heavy little package and weighs a little over 2 lb see yes now poo if you would just stand up I want to weigh the big package that you're sitting on all right now let's see this weighs oh this weighs a little over two pounds too no well I thought it let's see yes it weighs just the same as the little pack no oh you can't understand why the big package weighs the same as the little package well you all things don't have to look the same to weigh the same or you don't think the scale is right well what are you looking for looking for another scale oh pero no here I I'll I'll find find some no the scale is right no yes and I'm I'm going to try and find some way to show you that it's right uh I think there's a I think there's a paint can over here I can oh yes I I I see it now you just find a place to sit and uh yeah that's all right you'll be able to see it from from there and oh good it's empty all right now we'll put it right here there now I have to find a board oh I think this one will do all right now see now if I put the board so that the center is on the can then one half should balance the other half there see it's balancing we show you see now it comes back that means it's balancing or you want to try it all right go ahead do it again a little harder go on there you are like a seaa yes all right well P now to show you what I want to oh Poo listen to me oh now P let's go ahead what we're doing you see I want to find two things that according to the weigh exactly the same then if they balance each other it will show that the scale is right now I'll put the things on the Seesaw here and here uh well these two cans should do let's see look about the see see how much this ways weighs almost a pound now this I think this one will weigh the same let's see yes this one weighs almost a pound two now you watch what I'm going to do put one on this end now remember if they balance we know that the scale is right and the other one on this end now let's see see there they're balancing uhhuh oh you can test it if you want go ahead you can test it there see H oh oh you think they're balancing because they look the same oh noo here let me get let me get the two packages I'll just take these off and get the two packages because they don't look the same but I think now I can show you on our seesaw that they really weigh the same now here remember here's the big package remember that the scale said that the big package weighed a little over 2 lb now I'll put the little the little package here and remember the scale said that the little package also weighed a little over 2 lbs do you think they'll Balan you don't will you watch and see all right there they balance each other the scale was right yes you've learned huh you want to test it oh yeah see it comes right back that you oh you want to ride the Seesaw oh that would be fun well here I'll take these off but first poo come over to the scale and see how much you weigh so we can find something the right weight because if we put on something is too heavy it will topple you over and what do you do oh you want to ride now well don't you think you should get weighed first no oh oh you think the little paint can will be heavy enough well I don't think so pero but we can uh no it's not heav well you want the other little paint can you think you think both of them will be heavy enough no I don't well you want the package well Piro on top of the paint can well I think that's going to be a little too he oh yes it was too heavy oh oh Poo well just jump off there you oh Poo you're all right you're all right now now stop don't don't don't you think that you better come over and get weighed so it won't happen again well I don't think you know how to weigh yourself well you do all right well all right come show me there we are right over here oh yes that that's still working all right now here this here's the scale and were you're not so sure I'll give you three tries yeah give uh what's going on three tries and see if you can figure out how to wear yourself oh man so uh my uh computer ran out of dri space and then it so what it does is it's it's like I can't write to the drive fast enough so it slows down the scan uh and then it was like I don't have any memory woo and then it just crashed but uh sorry about that um yeah I'll see if I can get that up and running again uh because that's perro man we got to find out what happens and I saw that some of you really have no patience for pero or for Pat Uh Pat his uh Puppeteer sorry about that I don't know who hurt you but pero so good all right here we go there's a here's a Wonder Walk you can take to kind of Walk It Off w want to ride now well don't you think you should get weighed first no oh oh you think the little paint can will be heavy enough well I don't think so pero but we can uh no it's not heav well you want the other little paint can you think you think both of them will be heavy enough no I don't well you want the package well Piro on top of the paint can well I think that's going to be a little too he oh yes it was too heavy poo well just jump off there you oh Poo you're all right you're all right now now stop don't don't don't you think that you better come over and get weighed so it won't happen again well I don't think you know how to weigh yourself oh you do all right well all right come show me there we are right over here oh yes that that's still working all right now here this here's the scale and oh you're not so sure well I I'll give you three tries yes we'll give you three tries and see if you can figure out how to weigh yourself all right now here's your first uhhuh that was your first try that wasn't the way to do it was it can you think of the more tries thought something all right let's see what you going to do now I don't think that was the right way either have one more try well thought of something all right this is your last try oh you figured it out stop bouncing so we can see how 3 lb pero weighs 3 lb well now if we can find something else that weighs 3 lb we can balance you all right uh oh I think this box of bolts will do it feels a little too heavy so we'll pour a few out there we are now you want you tell me if this is 3 lb huh was it three no that's right so we're going to have to put in a few more bowls there we are is it 3 lb yet no so we're going to put in a few more and I think this one will do it there three lbs all right now pero you get on one end we'll put the box of bolts on the other end and then you can balance all right right H all right get on yourself there you are yes you can do it there you are all right now we'll put the box of bowls on this end oh you still don't think the scale was right well the just put see I know it's not quite heavy enough yet but now when we put the bolts back in I think you'll find that is just right there we are and you ready there we go the scale was right things don't have to look the same to weigh the same oh proo is [Music] Balan and I don't know what is going on I do not know you cannot ever pinned your hopes to a dream I me show folks who have traveled the Uso circuit have had the opportunity of learning firsthand what a fighting man wants most he wants to win the war and he wants to get home you have no idea how beautiful that simple word sounds to a fighting man home was it going to be a dream or is it going to be a reality it's for you to decide in this seven th War loone the national ebond quota is $4 billion that's the greatest J but in buying bonds you'll have the warm satisfaction of knowing that you've made much more real a fighting man's dream of Victory peace I got a kick out of them too the reactions weren't really funny you know not if you've ever pinned your hopes to a Dream On Me show folks who have traveled the Uso circuit have had the opportunity of learning firsthand what a fighting man wants most he wants to win the war and he wants to get home you have no idea how beautiful that simple word sounds to a fighting man home was it going to be a dream or is it going to be a reality it's for you to decide in this seventh War alone the national ebond quota is $4 billion that's the greatest yet but in buying bonds you'll have the warm satisfaction of knowing that you've made much more real a fighting man's dream of victory peace and home I'd like to emphasize those sentiments by singing elh song that was written by Harold Adamson what look [Music] all right that's uh wonderfully patriotic there's a lot of those um raising money for war bonds in fact you've probably even seen cartoons one of Brothers cartoons that uh rais money for war bonds um all right so behind me I have another film setup and uh I just got this on eBay I don't normally go to eBay to buy films but every once in a while I look and see and I'm not interested in films that other people want so what I do is actually go to this website that's called No bids and I just look for 16mm films that nobody's bid on that nobody's interested in and I have found beautiful beautiful things I'm not going to do this too much um anyways this is uh I think this is made for Barbers or hair stylists enjoy [Music] f [Music] the razor is as easy as any other method of hair shaping if you know what to expect of a razor type of shaping instrument you can be confident of excellent results you will find that a more thorough explanation of each action in this film is in the textbook on this particular subject to demonstrate the principles of Razor shaping two hairstyles will be created a volunteer from this audience which consists of beauticians and hair stylists will have her hair shaped for a swirl Arrangement there is no such thing as a universal cut if hair is shaped for a particular style the customer should be urged to keep that style otherwise she will not be completely satisfied with a hair shaping job if she wants another style reshaping is necessary the results of Razor shaping are identical with the results of shaping with scissors it is the knowhow acquired through intensive study and proper experience that makes for the skilled operator it is always necessary to determine hair texture before shaping this model's hair is of medium texture hair must be thoroughly dampened with hot water for razor shaping hot water softens the hair so the shaping action won't have to be forced while our model is having her hair rinsed let's learn the fine points of handling the razor it is important to look professional handle the razor easily and relaxed and you will be sure to inspire confidence in your Patron's attitude toward you hold razor in left hand like this and open it with the right hand thumb and index fingers will hold razor while other three fingers will support the handle thumb and index fingers control turning of the razor in a rolling motion the comb is held in the left hand when you want to use the comb rest the razor between thumb and index finger and transfer comb to your right hand razor should be closed the same way it was opened hold it in your left hand and push the blade down gently learn to handle your shaping instrument correctly like this and you'll Master its use quickly our model is back her hair has been rinsed with hot water by using hot water the razor action is smoother never Force the razor with heavy pressure now the model will turn to show the short slicing action which is used on the hair with the razor the slicing movement should never be more than one and a half in long because the razor is very sharp and otherwise it will cut away too much hair remember when you shaped with the scissors you used a controlled stroke three or 4 in long if you used a long stroke like this with a razor you would defeat the proper Pur purpose of shaping your customer's hair the result would be over thinned ends razors never make mistakes neither do scissors first the hair is separated the same way it is when you shape with scissors then the hair is spread with the comb for a view of length and condition holding of hair differs slightly for razor shaping hair is held a little more firmly between index finger and thumb for even length the layer is held straight across like like this length is measured and then the hair is shortened with a controlled slicing movement watch closely as we pretend to shape another layer after hair is shortened all around it is usually necessary to thin it between roots and ends be sure not to thin the outer or top layer three steps are used on this layer because hair is of medium texture all of the thinning is done on both sides of the Strand now for the swirl Arrangement hair is parted on the side from hairline to about the neckline in the Finish style the part will be covered by curls in back 2/3 of the hair is drawn to the full side of the cuure bulk accumulates here therefore thinning is necessary the part is on the right side swirl will be arranged toward the left side curls will be placed on the right side with waves and curls on the left the swirl Arrangement should begin about 3 and 1/2 in back from the hairline layers are held on a 30° angle beginning at the top of the head in back and extending to the left side parting is done from right to left length will be reduced to 4 and 1/2 in for curls curls will stay in place better at that length Center back will be graduated from 4 and 1/2 to 7 in for the swirl Arrangement the top layer gradually become shorter as we reach the neckline proper standing position in this instance is on the left side for shaping hair for a swirl hair is separated from right to left side almost across the back first layer is separated measured and shaped length is shortened now thinning will be done later and now the second layer again hair is held on an angle remember a short 1 and 1/2 in stroke is applied to shorten the hair now the sides are shortened to a 6in even length the reason for a 6-in even length is to be able to brush or comb curls into waves the 6-in length is a fair length for brush waves after shaping is completed length must be rechecked because hair has a tendency to slip especially in razor shaping large sections are picked up in rechecking next the hair is thin top layer is parted away because razor should never touch the outer surface of the hair or stubby ends will result thin on both sides of the layer of hair for a perfect blending of various lengths of hair three steps are used because hair texture is medium two steps are used on top and one on the underneath side of layer bulk interferes with styling so it must be removed by careful thinning now the top layer is combed toward left side thinning between roots and ends makes hair lie tailored to the head as it should this hair was shaped for a swirl and will be dressed in a style with swirled back and a balanced arrangement of waves and curls now a head of hair will be shaped for an updo here's a young lady who already wears an updo her hair isn't exactly lovely to look at perhaps her appearance can be improved upon if her hair is shaped for the style she is wearing evidently she is the cautious type anyway she's invested a lot of money in Combs and hair pins but still her updo lacks appeal remember before shaping for any style with any shaping instrument find out the texture and condition of the hair you are working with this hair is of medium texture if you don't know your Patron it's a good idea to let her comb through her hair to show you how she likes to wear it by the way there are women who say shape my hair but don't make it any shorter than it is here's a tip for women like this do a superior shaping job and they'll come back for more for shaping hair on the right side stand on the left side we're shaping left side side stand on the right side in Sobo as you can see you revolve around the head as shaping continues toward the back the hair will be divided into about 20 layers that extend from hairline to Crown the divisions will resemble cuts of a pie they will be 1 in wide at hairline and narrower near Crown the length of the hair of course always depends on the style being planned shaping begins on right side in front so the standing position is at left rear index finger is held at point of Separation comb meets finger and layer is separated with fingers hair is spread with comb for a view of length and condition held between thumb and index finger on about a 30° Angle now layer is measured 9 in at hairline 8 in at Crown when you become familiar with the razor shaper you can speed up the job by shortening and thinning the hair at the same time like this notice the short stepping action applied to the layer to thin out excess bulk and the slicing motion used for reducing length notice also how razor is placed so it doesn't touch the outer layer if razor touches surface you would have a lot of short stubby ends on top let a shape one layer in the back measurement here is 10 in at neckline and 8 in at Crown to prevent the patron from becoming tired as a result of holding her head in one position for a long time we stop shaping at Center back and begin again at left front hairline shaping and thinning continues to Center back with experience proper shaping for any style can be done within 10 minutes now watch the action for now the length must be checked five large sections are picked up hair is measured and ends are even did you notice that very little length was removed yet enough bulk was removed so that hair will be much more easily managed notice how the hair responds to combing after proper shaping this is something like it our young lady looks like a different person the hair is correctly shaped so every strand remains in place no stubby ends protrude to Mar the beauty of the upswept line and look she doesn't use all the Combs and all the bobby pin she came in with as you well can see her hairstyle is perfect and should be perfect because Perfection can be expected when hair is shaped correctly whether with scissors or with razor and now for the first model whose hair was shaped for a flattering swirl these Styles should convince you that hair shaping is the most important service in your salon make it your business to improve and Master every phase of hair shaping you'll reap profits you didn't know [Music] existed oh yeah oh yeah um you thought pero was boring uh no I I really dug that um I love the niche films the films that are meant for a very specific audience a very specific time like you know those hairstyles they were doing are not you know
