additional support from Exxon Corporation this program was produced by wvt Northern Virginia educational television under the supervision of Ni National instructional television and I love inside out and it's because of those uh it's like 72 73 so it has that kind of feeling of when I was a little kid and I used to see some of these on uh local uh uh PBS stations uh all right so behind me I have a film on the scanner and this is from our good friend Ambrose beerus a big fan of Ambrose beerus's writing uh of course he wrote during the 1860s um and boy he just put his him and uh Mark Twain they put their finger on uh Human Nature so well so this is uh the Mocking Bird [Music] enjoy for for for for d for for oh who close there fire fire please fire fire Dam it for H who goes there friends without firing I will be bless and gladly [Music] singto thy holy name [Music] as the book says Exodus 20 thou shalt not kill for it is the devil who hates because he was a murderer since the beginning and hate was conceived by hell but this commandment does not apply to the penalty of death neither to war nor does it apply necessarily to conscientious objectors we always get on better keep [Applause] [Music] who goes there private Grey Rock the company is proud of you give them hell please yes sir thank you here's your pass thank you sir good luck and I hope you find what you're friend all right for for for for for St right I find myself disappointed OED disappointed in failing to discover a fellow man dead by my hand do I really wish I had taken life in the performance of a Duty as well performed without what more could I wish no I'm glad indeed if no human life was needlessly extinguished by me but but I'm in a false position the Camp is ringing With Praise of my courage that isn't just it is believed I remained at my post bravely without firing or it was I who began the fusel ad and I didn't retreat in the general alarm because I was bewildered What then shall I do shall I tell a truth which discrediting my courage will have the effect of a lie it's an ugly business altogether I wish to God I could find my man [Music] [Music] la happy Happ [Music] [Music] [Music] Williams John ch [Music] [Music] William John for sh [Music] what ch [Music] what e [Music] [Music] oh he e [Music] e [Music] [Music] sh [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] for for for damn idiot I'm a damn idiot I'm a damn idiot damn idiot d d damn idot damn didot Dam didot for for [Music] at R call that evening in the federal Camp the name William greyrock brought no response nor ever again thereafter [Music] wow yeah doesn't disappoint always always a Twist always a twist with ambro Ambrose Beers uh and that was uh made by uh Robert Enrico who is actually a French filmmaker but man it's got a real uh spaghetti western vibe to it uh he also did as many of you recognized Occurrence at Al Creek Bridge uh and he did another one uh chiam Monga which I have a copy of somewhere but anyways I can't end with just that I can't end with that so um as we were watching the show uh one of my people that I work with to do uh stock footage stuff uh got back to me I had requested that the National Archives U do a highquality scan of this film which was only available in a really bad transfer where it was all blown out and wasn't good and I was like it's like 200 bucks but it's it's for potentially a stock footage job but it's also it's so important as far as uh cultural significance and this is from a universal news newsreel thing so $200 was it worth it let's find out [Music] uh tell me Mr Dell how did you happen to discover this amazing talent of yours well I'll tell you Mr hegerman in the year of 1914 in the month of February I was coming home from school and my hands got very cold and you're seeing I had no mittens and I begin of course pressing them together to get them warm and that wouldn't do but pretty soon I began squeezing them and I was surprised to think that I could make a few different sounds well then I begin playing every day and pretty soon I could play Yankee Doodle clear through and that was the only tune I could play for three whole years and the next tune I could play was marching through Georgia then the trail of The Lonesome Pine then for about everybody wondered then how I could do it and would bother me so much it for about 6 years I put it away until I met a an old showman that come up to Travers once and he says can you do your old novelty anymore SE I said I don't know but I'll try and I tried the course and it come right natural to me after letting it go for 6 years he said well if I was you he said I would practice it up and see what I could do some time in the stage when I was in Chicago was it worth it I love his kind of like like dead ey he's like not blinking and he licks his lips and it's so good anyway so now uh or eventually when you go to the National Archives site they'll have this on online and it will look beautiful compared to what it was before which was uh they did like a film chain transfer probably back in the 70s and it was all blown out and anyways thank you Kevin for uh $10 towards the uh supporting this um I'm actually really giddy that it looks so good and uh it makes me so happy um and this is what a Geeks is all about if any of you are like what is this guy doing showing these films this is what he's doing and this is why he's showing these films so thank you so much for watching and your comments thank you for contributing you can also contribute by just hitting the thumbs up or the like button uh whatever you're watching on uh those are great ways to support us and uh also uh you can go to ko-fi.com avgeeks or patreon.com slav Geeks now we're not always paying $200 to get things scanned by the National Archives um we're we're doing things like paying rent on storage units and you know other things like that so don't feel like we're just looking up fart in the National Archives film uh database to see whatever other fart things we can get uh digitized but there you go thanks so much and we will see you on Monday uh where I'm excited to get an eye exam and potentially get new glasses as always please rewind and love each other you guys deserve it you deserve to be loved check in with Friends check in with family uh some people are going through rough times so do that uh and just say hey I was thinking about you sometimes that's all it takes uh anyways we will see you next week take care e
