hi everybody this is Skip Alzheimer welcome to the a Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16mm films and today I am flying to Austin Texas to be uh for a board meeting for uh the American genre film archive and also to do a show on Friday for um fantastic Fest where I'll be showing a bunch of scary clown educational films of which many of you have endured over the last couple of years uh anyways so today I wanted to share some films I don't know why I got really into a bunch of citrus commercials and orange juice commercials so I downloaded a bunch of those from the avws project that we had uploaded there so long ago and so I I'm augmenting them with uh film from the pringer archive that we helped put online called Citrus and nutrition brought To Us by the fine folks at sun-kissed then orange fruit of life which is by minute made and then orange and blue which I showed like four years ago and I seem to remember this film as a kid like I really it when I saw it when I found the film in my collection I was like I know this film so this uh is not about the fruit this is about two balls and their relationship uh then we'll watch a bunch of uh ads for the Florida Citrus group or Association or organization um all of them trying to convince uh people to try different types of Orange grapefruit Etc uh that has been either Frozen canned you name it um but uh yeah so I'll be today's Thursday and no wait today is Wednesday so I'm flying Thursday I will also be pre-recorded and Friday I'll be pre-recorded and then probably Monday too because I'll be flying back dictated to the ship's writer an historic letter addressed to the Secretary of the Navy based on his own experience in keeping fighting men well and fit experience gained while fighting pirate fleets off North Africa as Captain Porter correctly stated scurvy is due to the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet today we know that these Foods furnish a scurvy preventing vitamin C in which for good nutrition has not changed since Porter's time but it is better understood today nutrition Authority now recommend that certain foods rich in all the essentials be eaten every day milk fresh or canned and cheese all rich in protein and calcium oranges lemons grapefruit Tomatoes raw cabbage or Salad vegetables some raw some cooked chiefly to furnish vitamin A potatoes and other vegetables and fruits in season to give bulk and additional vitamins and minerals bread and cereal whole grain products are enriched white bread and flour these for energy and vitamin B meat poultry or fish dried beans peas or nuts as sources of protein and the vitamin B complex butter and other vitamin Rich spread such as margarine and peanut butter for more energy eggs to supply protein fats vitamins and minerals particularly iron these are the foods that make up the adequate diet of the government's nutrition program eat foods from these group day plan meals to include them for good nutrition the 1920 more than 10 million boxes were harvested nevertheless only with the birth of the 20th century did it appear the industry might permanently recover yes the orange has come a long long way since its birth on that plane in eight so many centuries ago in the 30s the orange was becoming an accepted part of the American way of [Applause] life but it was not until 1945 that the orange industry
