e e hi everybody this is Skip Alzheimer welcome to the a Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mm films in spite of the fact that uh this iMac that I'm using is really getting having problems it's really I you know I can't open a browser it takes like five minutes to open all that stuff so I might have to move this to another computer at some point but not today not up for it today got too much stuff going on so uh anyways let's get started with uh this very short film about the forest allll enjoy Milestones of the [Music] century the super carrier forest all first of the giant carriers built by the Navy gets her Finishing Touches at Newport News Virginia named for the late Secretary of the Navy James forestall the mammoth ship in December 1954 was ready for sea too large for standard launching she had to be floated out of her huge birth tugs labored to bring her around into deep water The Forest all was on her own all $200 million 60,000 tons of her surrounded by average siiz vessels she looks like a leviathan in a school of minnows her angle deck specially built for simultaneous Landings and takeoffs is longer than three football fields The Forest all Sleek lined Hull is capable of speeds over 40 knots but top speed is sacret a mighty Airfield of float The Forest all can carry over 100 planes on her flight dech alone here she heads out for one of the most closely watched trial runs in Naval History joining the fleet of other super carriers among them the ill- fated constellation which was damaged by fire in December of 1960 The Forest all stands ready to pit her mobile strength against sudden aggression the potential of future greatness has literally been built into her [Music] the super carrier Advocates hold that the vessel's mobility makes it defensible against guided missiles and that it can quickly dispatch troops and aircraft to various trouble spots in order to contain local Wars the first Pilots to land on her deck during the forest all's Air Trials were congratulated by her Skipper Captain Johnson a man with a big responsibility this Mighty striking force can Rush needed equipment to needed areas at a needed time using only a fraction of her quartermile long flight deck the morest all steam operated catapults can launch a defense wall of jet fighters in a matter of minutes [Music] one of America's long arms of Defense The Forest all sails proudly among the nautical Milestones of the [Music] century so at some point uh British path is going to say hey we own that like you can't show that even though it's in public domain anyways I showed that filmm the reason why I got that film is that my father was on the forest stall uh along with John McCain and uh both of them were on the forest stall when there was that massive explosion that took place on the deck uh and uh many sailors died and my father still has PTSD from that um experience um because he said it was like being in a giant Bell that rang and uh he was in bunk thankfully uh because if he was at his normal station uh he would have been dead so anyways uh there is that not to bring it down um but there you go all right uh so behind me well hold on like I dare not touch there's so many everything is feels so if I touch this what's going to happen is it going to crap out all right it's gonna be okay everything's all right I think all right still not ready uh anyways this is just me fussing everything fussing with this fussing with that like that's not right no that should go over there this should come over here and should stay in that position all that stuff anyways right there is uh was in a giant box filled with spaghetti it was basically just it had popped off its core so it was very similar it was on something that was like this and then this popped out which means that everything here just kind of gets loose and falls out and over a period of I don't know 15 years 20 years it was just a big box of spaghetti uh and so my assistant Kon put it all on one reel and we're going to watch it and uh it's possible that we have seen this before but um whatever it is a bunch of TV trailers uh films from the 70s uh mid to late '70s it kind of varies quality varies color varies there might be a bunch of duplication in there we might see 20 ads for Battle Star Galactica I don't know what's on this reel um because all that information has disappeared so let's watch and enjoy and look back and hopefully it'll run without fail but you know it just kind of happens so let me change the title TV trailers so TV trailers are different than uh trailers you would see in a theater trailers you would see in a theater would be 5 minutes uh TV trailers maybe the most a minute sometimes 30 seconds sometimes 15 seconds uh and they were meant to be shown on television and some of them have an extended thing at the end where it's uh basically uh just silent then it shows like the logo of the movie then you could superimpose or have a voiceover that says you know now playing at the Richfield Drive-In you know blah blah blah uh and this was all part of the promotional process of promoting a film in an area uh and what was interesting is we live in a time where when a movie is released it is released everywhere at the same time and that was not the case in the' 70s early 70s especially and before that in that films would make their way around the country so um you know it was only like when Jaws like open on a bunch of screens at the same time that's how they made so much money and then after that Hollywood's like oh well we should always try to release as many places as possible uh on opening and that's why opening weekend numbers are are so important because it's like we are did this big push and I'm just blathering on here let's go ahead and watch some TV trailers you guys can talk more about it in the comments all right enjoy cut it out did you get it so you think it's going to end here huh yeah because it's all over the map but uh yeah so what we got were just reels and reels and reels of builtup um TV trailers uh some are great some not so great uh there's also some TV commercials thrown in there um but uh yeah there's some great stuff in there and I appreciate you guys tuning in uh so we got one more film to watch and I've seen this before but it's great because it is part of that out that money for a bike oh you never bought that for ages don't you want the on working yeah I want it but I want it more if Mom and Dad were going to pay for it this is my money oh but you'll never pay for that bike yes I will I got a paper out and I'm going to Shel boxes soon come on you can buy the next fall or something I don't know Peter what it in fun isn't any fun you saw a commercial it's another will just like me I know that Peter really wants to get the iron willig gate right away only I didn't have to spend my own money if I spend it now I'll never have enough money for a bike this summer and I know exactly what kind I'll get too I wish I knew what to do the world game might be a lot of fun especially for the first to get it but if I do get it I have to wait another year to get my bike wow look at this look at this car cost over $7,000 that one there cost $9,000 when I get old enough I'm going to buy one I'm going to buy two I'm going to get one the first day they come out that's done you have to pay a lot more that way you got to wait till the end of the year for a good sale that's not what the add in today's paper say I wonder if all these add the TRU is that just like l i asking for tours that she never plays with if we get the r gig I hope it doesn't get thrown aside like that Joe come and set the table for me please would you finish this for me pleas right hey mom me and pet are thinking of pulling our money together by will it your bike money but don't you want a bike anymore sure I do but it be a lot of fun to have really k get so Joe have you decided to buy that toy you saw on TV what is it the iron I I'm not really sure what I want to do are you still thinking of getting that dumb toy happens to be the best toy ever it's probably just a piece of junk it'll break in a week you'll throw it in the garage with all the other broken toys no it won't we'll take good care of it last a long time better get it right away so I can play with it too oh no way if we get it nobody else is going to play except me and Peter it's our toour wait till somebody else gets it see if it's any good we know it's a good toour already just go ahead and spend your money like him tell me make a lot more sense we got a bike than a wh gate what about your bike Joel oh he can always save his money and get it later I'm not really sure what I want to do Joel why don't you and Peter go down to the toy store look over that toy and just see if it's any good you better take a good look at how it's feel to see if it's strong or not Joe let's take our money we can when I watch uh inside out episodes there's this warm feeling that I feel kind of like here around my heart and then like in my gut it's just like it's that se that early 70s feeling that uh I think I was Liv in Ohio at the time in uh near Dayton and just that you know it just resonates so much with me um so I'm very much enjoy just the the feel of it and the clothes and what's happening but this one is particularly good because it addresses uh advertising it's at kids and I have a couple of films that address that and it's really amazing and I don't know if there is anything nowadays that's produced for kids to say hey uh here's all this messaging that's coming to you um you should be very critical of it I don't know if there's any of that uh just like like is there any place that is giving valid advice on Banking and financing for adults uh that is not sponsored by a finance company or a bank um you know that's I think it's important and we're not getting that information we're
