thank you to everybody all right um so yeah uh that Rapture film that I showed yesterday brought down all sorts of stuff um so sorry it was pretty great I love it I really really dug it um the crying um guy recording a mixtape for his family uh urging them to find Christianity before it was too late um and then the weird dream about the plane and the departure that was Overexposed hilarious uh but anyways YouTube didn't think it was funny and the people who owned the copyright to it didn't think it was funny so they came down so we'll try desperately because I think it was the last week uh same thing happened we showed a claymation film and that was taken down um so today we're gonna just we're gonna try to go more than a week without YouTube Bringing Down the band hammer who knows anyways uh this is Eskimo children enjoy on the baron island of nunavak off the Alaskan Coast it is the morning of a Brisk September Day all is quiet along the shore where the boats of Eskimo villagers lie beached above the tide and there is stillness over the village what a round of activity has yet to begin but in this little dwelling dug partly into the Earth one member of the household is already at her tasks mother busies herself just now trimming a seal oil lamp she must see that the lamp Burns brightly for the house has no windows and lamps are the only source of light I sleep on a wooden platform nearby or the children of the household yachtalin and her sister anagaluk Omi and his older brother siluk and little baby sister in the center father too is still asleep presently all will have to get up for breakfast will soon be ready mother has begun to prepare the fish that will be the main part of the meal but before he is ready for breakfast father also has tasks to perform putting on his coat or parka of many bird skins he is warmly dressed for the weather outside and now entering the narrow passageway that leads out to the doorway he mounts the steps to the ground level above the floor of the house surrounding the entrance tunnel he climbs to the low roof of Earth that covers the mound shaped dwelling formed of sod and wood he must see what kind of weather is in store carefully he scans clouds and Sky Heller will largely determine his activities for the day meanwhile inside the dwelling the children are getting dressed before they put on their boots they prepare the paths of grass that form an inner lining to help keep their feet dry and warm the hood for the head is made of skins with a fringe of long fur now it is time for everyone to gather around The Breakfast Table and here as in every phase of life in the little Eskimo dwelling there is much crowding together for the family group includes grandpa and grandma too seal oil is ever on hand to be eaten with the fish and neither ever loses its appeal finding a choice morsel mother hands it across to a nogaluk the eskimos show deep affection for their children and so the breakfast of food gathered from the sea starts the daily round with breakfast over mother and inaugaluk make a trip to a new on the tundra here they obtain fresh water for the household and today another look has a special reason for wanting an extra pail of water of Our Own back in the village across the wide stretches of grassy Tundra there is someone she wishes to visit a little friend who is ill and since the father of her friend has said that water will do her good little inauga look has felt that she could help so to her friend in her sickness she brings a cup of water helpfulness is a constant practice among both Eskimo children and grown-ups meanwhile father in Sea look are busy on another venture having set out their fishnets they have paddled their seal skin kayak to the shore across the bay nearby is another village where the family lives in the summer and today a special errand requires a visit walking along the shore they spy a piece of driftwood but someone else has claimed it by taking it from the waters precious as all wood is here on the treeless Island this is left alone it belongs to another ah but here before them another prize has drifted in and this has not been claimed good material here for any number of uses part of the frame of a kayak perhaps or a new utensil for the home a happy find in any case and now having set the wood aside to be taken home upon their return Father and Son proceed to the dwelling the family use in the summer in the recent move to the winter village some suppliers were left behind including a full container of seal oil that will be needed when present supplies are gone just as obtaining food is a major task for the men work on handmade clothing takes much of the time of the women [Music] along with grandmother and mother busily ply their needles repairs have to be made on the hoods of parkas that will be in constant use during the cold months ahead grandmother works on a parka made of the skins of birds while yachtalin is intent on fashioning a waterproof boot sole made of seal skin antonog young as she is is already learning the delicate skills all Eskimo women must know here where clothing has long been made out of materials fashioned by hand all women folk must be trained in needlework and the men too have handicraft skills of Their Own today grandfather sits in the kajim OR Village Meeting House carving an ivory ornament from a piece of walrus tusk many older men work at carving but of all the tasks of the villagers none are more important than those that are concerned with the food supply having put their sewing aside mother and yatalin are cleaning a catch of fish father and brother have caught nearby along the shore stand the racks where the fish are hung to dry and to the strings of Clean Fish already hanging on the racks mother adds those that she and yotherland have prepared drying the fish in this way helps to preserve them and fish are the family's staff of life but not all that these Eskimos use comes from the sea and the tundra The Village includes a Trader store and here grandmother offers a hand-woven basket in exchange for some needles she wishes to obtain and this product of a far-off world is only one of many the trader has to offer there are canned goods of various kinds Woolen blankets and Yard Goods Calico for dresses flashlights Hardware household implements skis and much to the Delight of inaugaluk the trader also has a supply of good stick candy yes through the Traders store the eskimos have contact with the world they have never seen and now with the trading completed there is time for other diversions anaga look runs to join a game of Ring Around the Rosie the game is very popular and another look and her friends play it often along with games like London Bridge and Blind Man's birth for the boys bows and arrows offer popular sport but practice with the target isn't entirely play as sea look takes careful aim before he speeds his Arrow toward the homemade Target he is learning a valuable skill that he will often need practice in play trains him for serious work with the bird Spear and throwing board used in hunting games it is a skill learned as a boy that father calls upon today spying a waterfowl he seizes his fear and deathly hurls it toward the bird that has failed to sense his approach the spear carefully aims has found its mark as a skillful fisherman and Hunter father provides Apple food for the family summer winter in the evening as mother prepares another meal the bird that father is killed hangs in readiness perhaps baby sister knows that there will be something special on the table tonight and there is something special later too a community dance in the kajim to the steady Rhythm of the drums played by Village musicians father performs at tribal dance the but he is not alone and baby sister also try some steps much to the amusement of the crowd yes they loved the eskimos a warm friendly Lobster they laugh when they dance when the tasks of the day are over the long evening passes with Carefree enjoyment of friendship and dancing and music in the community house here in the Eskimo Village on the remote island of nunavak off the Alaskan Coast friend James brill who was the narrator for herpes and for Encyclopedia Britannica early on uh we don't use the term Eskimo anymore it was a very generic term and was a little derogatory in Canada so Inuit um elute I'm getting these names wrong I looked this up on Wikipedia so there's other names that are more specific and not so year in bicycle accidents and 75 percent of bicycle related deaths and permanent disabilities could have been prevented the Riders had worn helmets bicycle helmets are designed to save your life [Applause] while you can have fun on a bike a bike is not a toy a bicycle is a transportation vehicle it doesn't matter what type of vehicle you're driving a bicycle a car truck motorcycle or even if you're walking you must obey the traffic laws you can learn about your local laws by contacting the law enforcement office in your neighborhood I also want you to take this with you and it goes over some of the bicycle rules and regulations just like cars driving a bike means you have definite responsibilities and like cars certain improper Maneuvers can be deadly six of the most common violations which lead to Bicycle accidents are riding in the middle or on the wrong side of the road failing to heal the right-of-way turning in properly disregarding traffic signs and signals driving too fast for dangerous road conditions and riding at night without proper lights and reflectors you're here today to show how well you can control your bicycle but in addition The Bike Rodeo is designed to illustrate how you and your bike can safely ride the streets so that everyone comes out of wind test one change in balance you have to change at just the right instant to keep on the line let's see how this could be useful in everyday riding [Music] change in Balance allows you to turn your bike effectively in case of an emergency for example when a pedestrian unexpectedly stepped out in front of you you'll be able to turn and avoid an accident test two every bicycle must be equipped with a braking system that will enable the rider to stop within 15 feet from a speed of 10 miles in tight situations when wind is blowing at you and you feel squeezed in you have to balance steadily proper position on the road is one defensive way you can reduce risks always stay to the right side this gives yourself an out like running off the side of the road if you should need it test four weaving controlled weaving is changing balance at a high speed and helps you to quickly avoid obstacles keeping your eyes open when passing a parked car can save you from a crash when a car door is suddenly open Drive defensively anticipate hazards and allow yourself enough room to maneuver test five balancing at a slow speed [Applause] [Music] balancing at slow speed enables you to move forward without getting off your bike giving you the chance to evaluate your situation When approaching intersections the ability to balance at slow speed gives you the necessary time to observe traffic conditions boy I could just zip on up there but what if a car pulls out to make a right-hand turn be especially alert to Vehicles pulling into your lane Drive defensively [Music] test six arm signals while making a right turn signal by placing your left forearm straight up when turning left place your left hand straight out [Applause] [Music] place your left arm down for stopping or slowing always signal at least 50 feet before stopping or turning signal and look left and right right hand turning always look behind you making sure where other vehicles are left hand turning [Music] at a busy intersection you should use the crosswalk one of the most common violations which leads to Bicycle accidents is disregarding traffic signs and signals familiarize yourself with these important road signs no left turn slow railroad crossing biking allowed yield to all moving vehicles the signs give you directions as to where to ride and what you can do [Music] when you disobey a sign accidents can happen [Applause] are you all right all vehicles must obey traffic signs and signals no u-turn wrong way do not enter one way do not pass yield no left turn pedestrian Crossing merging traffic right lane ends and stop these signs tell you that bikes are not allowed obey them these signs are information and service signs use them they're there to help you camping bike lane and if there are no signs use safety Consciousness slowing or stopping at a blind intersection hi there now test 8 is your friendly bicycle maintenance base copper care can make any vehicle last longer come here I'll show you how to check for minor maintenance problems now breakdowns can cause accidents first make sure your handlebars are very tight next let's check the frame make sure it isn't bent a bent frame can make you lose control make sure your bicycle seat is tight and is adjusted the brakes or a hand brakes if you have any next check to see how worn out your tires are check them regularly and do not ride on worn out tires keep your tires inflated to the correct air pressure that's printed on the sidewall of the tire now if it isn't noted check with your local bike shop be careful if you use gas station air hoses the tires can explode under too great of pressure now this bike has hand brakes and metal spokes now A Time spoke when plus makes a high pitched ping sound keep your spokes tight and replace broken ones immediately let's oil your chain now lubricate your chain with light oil [Applause] that's right how are your brakes working good brakes must break evenly every time without slippage always have problem brakes looked at by train servicemen effective braking techniques can make your brakes last longer since 1978 it is a federal law that all bikes must be equipped with rear pedal and side reflectors the rear reflectors must be red in color and visible for 500 feet the Amber petal reflectors must be visible for 200 feet do you ride your bike at night sometimes I do always use a headlight when you ride your bike at night without it you won't be seen proper and safe night riding means wearing light-colored clothing using a headlight and having all your reflectors intact so you can be seen by other vehicles [Music] you know I'm safe well proper care makes you and your bike last longer what if I need a new part or something find a bike shop that cares they will give you advice and help you always find a reliable serviceman to do major repairs and replacements but don't forget to check the work yourself don't assume that just because the job is being done by a professional that it works right after all bikes are made and serviced by people like me and you test nine how to use a bike rack first insert your front tire Between the Bars of the bike rack next Loop your chain through the frame and front wheel of your bike then secure your chain and attach to the rack locking your bike [Music] you guys let's park our bike from the bike rack someone coming out of the store may trip over there I'll smash them or steal them look what alert at all times look for bumps potholes Pebbles as well as things that would fall from above if you don't pay attention you may be hurt keep your eyes on the road in front of you and behind you obey your local laws give yourself and your bike some time to get acquainted with a little time and patience you and your bike will be best friends but most of all have fun being safe is a way for prescription for fire uh and this is uh one of the a kind of a series well not a series but it's a genre of film uh fires and hospitals and how to deal with them I have probably three or four so here it is our extra fire prescription for fire enjoy foreign [Applause] [Music] foreign good afternoon ladies and gentlemen Welcome to our fire safety and Fire Prevention seminar is a combined effort on the part of our hospital and our local fire departments I would like to introduce to you Chief Robert Aldridge of our local fire departments we will now start our seminar with a discussion and demonstrations of situations involving the use of oxygen in any discussion of fire safe to handling of oxygen and the administering of oxygen therapies one of our chief concerns has to be sources of ignition some of these that you may find in a hospital maybe the nurse's call Bell electric bed Motors patience electric shaver it must be remembered that any fire involving an oxygen enriched atmosphere is going to be an extremely violent fire and the spread of it will be very rapid [Applause] [Music] in the event of the fire in a patient's room in which oxygen equipment may be involved we are quickly going to have to rescue the patient Sound the Alarm cut off the oxygen supply to that room confine and secure the area by closing the fire doors in the hall quarters and also the doors to the other patient rooms and extinguish the fire if possible in order to prevent these accidents from happening it is your responsibility to remove matches and smoking materials from any room where oxygen is in use whether it be an oxygen tent nasal feeding or by any other method of application any visitors to the room should be warned of the immediate Danger adequate signs must be posted in and outside of the room a quick review of the problems dealing with the use of oxygen equipment in the hospital would take us back to the previously mentioned ignition sources and also the well-meaning friend who offers the patient a cigarette you have to be aware of the violent reaction that will take place in the fire situation and oxygen enriched atmospheres [Applause] you have to quickly rescue your patient sound your alarm shut off the oxygen supply complain and secure the area and extinguish the fire if possible reference to the National Fire Protection association's standard 56b dealing with inhalation therapy should be a must for all Hospital safety personnel and nursing supervisors I would now like to discuss the portable fire extinguisher hospitals generally use the following types water carbon dioxide dry chemical and the all-purpose ABC this is a water type extinguisher it is used to extinguish ordinary combustibles such as wood cloth and paper here is a carbon dioxide extinguisher it is used to extinguish electrical oil and other flammable liquid fires the dry chemical extinguisher is also used to extinguish electrical oil in other flammable liquids an all-purpose ABC extinguisher is designed for use on ordinary combustible fires electrical oil and other flammable liquid fires at our seminar today we will demonstrate and use a water type extinguisher and a carbon dioxide extinguisher to operate this carbon dioxide extinguisher you place your hand on the neck of the extinguisher pull the pin tip the horn at 45 degrees balance the weight in both hands and squeeze the handle this extinguisher is very noisy don't let the noise frighten you they're not shooting [Applause] [Applause] download all right this is a pressurized water extinguisher to operate it if you place your hand on the neck of the extinguisher pull the pin direct the nozzle at the base of the flame and squeeze the handle remember to hold the extinguisher by the neck pull the pin take the nozzle and direct it at the base of the flame and squeeze the handle [Applause] there is one important thing to remember you cannot pull the pin if you squeeze the handle therefore you should place your hand on the neck of the extinguisher and then pull the pin an excellent Guide to the use care and placement of fire extinguishers can be found in the National Fire Protection association's standards number 10 and 10A proper operation of a fire extinguisher is important but it is equally important to know where the extinguishers are located in your respective working areas if you should discover a waste basket Fire cover the basket with a pillow this will suffocate the fire while you go and get an extinguisher to complete the extinguishment here we have a hose cabinet it is similar to any of the ones in our Hospital this is a fog nozzle it is designed to extinguish the fire and provide you with a water spray for your protection a half turn on the nozzle will give you a fog spray this valve is for turning the water on and must not be turned on until all the hose has been removed from the rack does the valve have to be opened all the way yes this valve should be open all the way to ensure maximum and sufficient water supply [Applause] that's good now [Applause] [Applause] for those of you who work in our kitchen areas our Workshop areas a fire blanket is provided at this time I will demonstrate the proper method of using it should you have an accident set your clothes on fire take hold of the handles turn yourself completely around wrap yourself in the blank the next subject I would like to discuss and demonstrate is the hazards associated with pressurized containers you will find in your hospital such as deodorants hair sprays medications industrial applications these containers are a potential danger if handled incorrectly was that deodorant yes it was and that can happen too when you use hairspray the disposal of aerosol cans and other pressurized containers should be placed in a special container for this purpose they are never to be placed in waste baskets thrown into Ruby shoots or incinerators this is our fire alarm panel board which we use for demonstration and discussion of our fire alarm system many hospitals such as ourselves have two types of fire alarm systems automatic and manually operated the automatic alarm systems are activated by heat and byproducts of combustion the manual alarm systems are activated by you would you two please come up here to operate this manual pull box station you merely put your fingers in the slot pull the handle all the way down and release it the value here ringing is not just an alarm signal it's a coated signal telling where is the alarm has been activated I would like to stress upon you the importance of sounding a fire alarm as quickly as possible and you're knowing where the fire alarm box in your area is remember you should never assume that someone has already sounded a fire alarm or made notification Sound the Alarm yourself this is your responsibility shouldn't we reported to the head nurse no absolutely not sound the alarm first today in our hospitals there are many different acceptable code signals used to indicate a fire or emergency the important thing is that every hospital have a code signal and in it be used frequently in fire drills so that all of the staff are familiar with it one of the most important things to be done if there is a fire is to close the smoke barrier doors in the corridors plus closing the doors of the patient's room treatment and utility rooms in most cases the smoke barrier doors and all other doors will have to be closed by hand although on some of our newer hospitals there are automatic closing devices which are operated by the fire alarm system when it is activated in any case the important thing to remember is that smoke barrier doors and doors to Patient treatment and utility rooms must be closed does he mean we close every door yeah every door I would like to mention that there are fire hazards that do exist in our hospitals they are smoking electrical problems overheating of equipment trash removal burning and improper storage of combustible and flammable materials it is also very important that you enforce the hospital smoking regulations visitors are not to smoke in the elevators corridors or patients rooms visitors should use designated smoking areas before our seminar ends for today I would like to speak to you briefly about the subject of evacuation or relocation as it will be in most cases there is no one relocation plan or program that will fit the needs of all of our hospitals therefore each Hospital must develop their own fire emergency plan to fit their own needs and particular emergency the success of any fire emergency plan is your ability to carry it out this requires in-service training teamwork and coordination this is why you have had and will have unscheduled fire emergency drills to test your efficiency in your hospitals no one should ever think that they or their Hospital are immune to fire will each one of you please as you leave take one of our Hospital fire safety and prevention manuals patient smoking in bed will be one of your biggest problems and also a problem to us in the fire safety and Fire Prevention field while it is a difficult problem there is much that you and I can do about it all Hospital Personnel that means every one of you must be alert to patients who smoke [Applause] doctor red three West Dr red three West Dr red three West Dr red three West [Applause] Dr red three West Dr red three West Dr red three West Dr red three West a well-trained fire brigade in your hospital can put out a small fire or control it until the local fire department arrives a very important rule that every hospital should have and follow is that whenever there is a fire involving a mattress any kind of a fire no matter how small after it has been extinguished the mattress must be removed immediately to the outside of the building you should warn your patients about smoking in bed you should check to see that properly designed ashtrays are used and Care is showing when and where these ashtrays are emptied any patient who is confused or who is under sedation should have matches and smoking materials removed special surveillance must be observed during the nighttime hours visitors should not be allowed to smoke in patient rooms they should use designated areas set aside for this purpose there is one more responsibility we all have you and I it is housekeeping it is your job to keep your working areas clean and orderly why is housekeeping so important because if you have poor housekeeping you will have or create hazards hazards that could kill or injure patients and yourself and cause damage to property for instance fire and smoke proof towers are built to provide a Haven of safety during a fire an excellent guide reference to this subject can be found in the National Fire Protection association's standard number 101 the Life Safety Code the door is entering the fire tower are fire doors and must be kept closed at all times with a self-closing device the fire doors must never be blocked open carts machines or housekeeping equipment are never to be left so as to block open or prevent from closing any fire or smoke barrier door kitchen grease ducts and canopies present a serious fire hazard to all hospitals because of the grease to get through the filter and into the canopy and ductwork they must be cleaned on a frequent routine maintenance schedule compressed gases must be stored in a well ventilated Room free from combustible materials the cylinders must be capped chained to the wall secured to a manifold or be placed in racks flammable and non-flammable gases must be stored in separate rooms rubby shoots must be emptied frequently keeping combustibles at a minimum rubbish should not be stored in carts or baskets but must be burned or removed as soon as possible to reduce the fire hazard caution should be exercised that rubbish and linen shoot doors are always latched underneath stairways is never a place to store combustible materials if a player should result from careless stories it could deprive you of a necessary exit to safety no one wants to see hours of dedicated work wasted by a thoughtlessly discarded cigarette no one wants to see months of care repairing a human body and mind lost in the smoke and heat of a needless fire your hospital should be a building free of all fire hazards to life it can be by proper fire safety and fire prevention [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] and what may I ask is get into this are not where it's at teaching you how to spell cat I know you'd rather play so why don't you throw on your books when books away burning the fire is already earning put an end to any
