e oh boy started off the day everything's been taking longer than normal and it look like I need to brush my hair better but uh I'm skip Al summer welcome to the a Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mm films and it's uh cold and icy outside which is nice and it's snowing which is nice but for some reason today just everything is taking longer than it needs to and so I was working on stuff and I was like what time is it and this computer behind me says it was 12:45 so there you go anyways happy happy to see everybody uh and happy to bring you another uh perau uh cartoon cartoon enjoy [Music] we need it where's Pier I don't know Ben probably somewhere daydreaming la la la la la la Pio watch where you're going be careful with those magazines we need them to make our collages collages collages H Pio Pio quit daydreaming come on get busy we have to start cutting and pasting [Music] all right class let's see if we can make our collages into trees trees yeah I'm going to make a tree out of colors how about you Celestine I'm not telling what's yours Piero can't talk I'm busy I'm busy you'll see [Music] m [Music] m a special tree of special treats [Music] I'll build a tree as high as my friend in the sky booty too quit daydreaming Piero and start [Music] building buildings a tree of building and big rocks to make it extra strong look at Pi rose tree it's going to be gigantic yeah but it won't be good enough to eat it's going up and up and up wow and up and up and off I'm coming booty to I'm coming hi Piero I made it I made it sure you did let's have some fun okay I have you're right but I saw booty too [Music] so uh Pio is a kind of Ralph character if you remember Ralph from the uh Looney Tunes the Chuck Jones character about the redheaded kid who Daydreams in class uh it seems like uh that's what this is um yeah all right uh so this film is uh recently scanned from the prelinger archive uh the name of the game is living and I I watched a little bit of it and I was like what is this about uh it's trying to sell you something but I don't know what it is so maybe we can figure it out together enjoy [Music] what is a home to you to any individual to any family to this family it is really a new way a better way of life in so many ways different for each individual yet with common themes which play and Replay for all in the game called living [Music] [Applause] [Music] come play the game with this family the rules are simple let the mind's eye see what a home can mean as the physical eye sees what it is [Music] a man every man sees in a new home the comfort and warmth they can bring to his family a place that can be his to which he can escape from the den that constantly assails him with a door to close on the World to create a Haven of quiet of Peace of [Music] Tranquility or a place where his noise will not annoy others and the outdoors to broil a steak sink a putt or simply solve The World's problems with the neighbors in one's own backyard an opportunity for expression tools with which to build to create to use things he has made himself in a home that is his and a home is a family playing together games of movement and [Music] vigor or skill deliberation and finesse but doing it together in the new home which can remake the game of living and make it better in so many ways a woman sees a new home through different eyes and the players in her game are quite different New Horizons new friends new opportunities for those human contacts which brighten and enlarge the day are a part of the good things which a new home a new hilarious uh love it uh all right so uh what else we got oh somebody's in trouble [Music] is zero a troublemaker for you we often use zero sometimes we use it with small numbers in doing addition or in doing subtraction and we may use it in working with large numbers let's see how we work with zero zero isn't much different from any other number like four you know that this numeral tells us the number in a set of four here is a set of four trucks now it's a set of three trucks a set of two a set of one truck a set of no trucks this is a set of zero trucks zero is the number of the empty set it tells us there are not any in a set a set of three paper flowers a set of zero paper flowers how many pennies are in this set right how many pennies are in this set right zero is the number of the empty set zero is a number just like 1 2 3 and the others you know because zero is a number it's on the number line zero is a starting place for number lines zero is to the left of one because it's less than one just as two is to the left of three because it is less than three because zero is a number you can usually use it like any other number you can add with it let's look at addition with zero Ed has four trucks his friend Steve was going to bring some of his trucks over to Ed's house but Steve forgot how how many trucks do they have to play with well Ed has four trucks and Steve brought no trucks zero trucks so there are still just four when zero is added to another number the answer is that number but is 4 + 0 the same as 0 + 4 let's see Sue is Ed's sister she has no paper flowers zero flowers but a friend gives Sue four flowers now how many flowers does Sue have right 0 + 4 is 4 and with the trucks we saw that 4 + 0 equal 4 adding zero is like adding any number either number can be first the answer is the same 7 + 0 equals 7 the same answer as 0 + 7 it doesn't matter which number is first when you add with zero you see let's try another addition problem using zero Ed and Sue's big brother Jeff has five pennies he's looking for some more pennies no pennies in his pocket zero pennies no pennies in his bank another zero no pennies in his dad's favorite chair either another zero Jeff even asks his mother if she has any extra pennies but no she doesn't have any pennies for Jeff another zero 5 plus 0 plus 0 plus 0 plus 0 equals how much no matter how many zeros are added to another number the sum can never get larger isn't addition with zero easy well subtraction is just as easy we can learn about subtraction with zero by seeing what Sue does with her four flowers she has taken the flowers home she asks Steve and Ed if they would like to have some how many flowers does she have left she had four flowers gave zero away way and still has four flowers left Sue will help us do another subtraction problem this is Sue's mother mothers like flowers so sue gives the four flowers to her mother we can subtract four from the number Sue had which leaves Sue with zero flowers no flowers whenever a number is subtracted from its self that leaves zero zero is an easy number to use in addition and subtraction just remember that zero is the number of the empty set even when zero is used with other numerals it tells us there is an empty set Jeff and his marble collection will help us understand the meaning of Z in the numeral 30 each of these bags has exactly 10 marbles in it this is a set of three bags of marbles right but we have more than three marbles all together this three shows us that we have three sets of 10 zero in the ones place shows us that we have 0 1es 3 10 and 0 1's if we add four marbles the zero no longer correctly counts the set of ones four is the number of the set of ones Jeff has a total of 34 marbles no he has more marbles this bag has 100 marbles in it we need to show this in the hundreds place Jeff has another bag of a 100 Jeff has a total of 234 Marbles What happens when Jeff takes away the three sets of 10 marbles hey what kind of numeral is this is it 24 there are more than 24 marbles on the table two is not the number of sets of 10 it is the number of sets of 100 what numeral tells us how many sets of 10 there are not the four zero is the number of sets of 10 the 10 set is empty no tens zero is an easy number to use but it also has a special use that no other number has let's see what that is we saw earlier that Jeff has a total of 234 marbles if someone asked Jeff how many marbles he has he would say 234 but Jeff might also say I have about 200 marbles because there are about 200 marbles in the Box not 2,000 not 20 not two Jeff has about 200 marbles in the box but 200 is not the exact number the zeros are placeholders for the exact numbers in the numeral 200 zeros help us know that the two shows how many sets of 100 using zeros as placeholders is called rounding off numbers it's often done the distance you'd have to drive to get from New York to San Francisco is 3,38 mil but people often round it off to about 3,000 miles Man's first trip to the moon took 103 hours but we might also say it took about 100 hours for the trip to the moon it's not exact but it gives a pretty good idea zero is an important number it tells us we have empty sets both by itself and with other numerals and zero has a special use as a placeholder for other numerals when we're rounding off do you think zero is a troublemaker not for you anymore [Music] spells trouble zero spells trouble um someone in the comments mentioned zero my hero which was a multiplication rock um film which I have but I wouldn't show because it's owned by ABC which is owned by Disney and would cause problems I'm sure uh uh what is the anytime city which which city do you think the anytime city is um mention it in the Jean star Becker do you guys know who Jean star Becker is does that name ringabell uh that is the man who wrote uh death zones and then it happened those two amazing uh bus safety Calamity films um that just show bus accidents and talk about how you can get killed it's all aimed towards kids and just overthe toop stuff Jean starving and so wow he did this awesome thing obviously earlier in his career but yeah it is what I would call the exploitation film of bus safety films um the one and then it happened is outrageous it's basically showing all these kids misbehaving and talks about how misbehaving kids what lead to bus accidents and they show kids like making out or trying to make out uh drugs knives uh uh Lab Rats um Etc it's it's over the top so it it's really awesome to kind of see that uh Jean did that um wow today today has been I'll just say to you today has just been difficult I don't know what it is uh I've been putting things up on the uh YouTube trying to do 24 films a day and today was just every every aspect of I'd upload like a bunch of films and see like oh wait those were already uploaded and a different version was uploaded and oh that one doesn't have sound and oh that one yeah that one's not working and you know so I think that threw off my entire day so I'm happy that I was able to show you films in spite of what feels like an overwhelming uh Cloud uh it's beautiful outside it did stop snowing and I will probably walk outside a little bit but um yeah some days maybe Geeks are just like what is going on this is crazy uh and even starting the show late it was like what um and then the scan the films I'm scanning uh they have these horrible tape splices so they keep popping out of the gate and so it's just a lot of stuff but I had to do the show and I appreciate you guys watching um this is why I do what I do ultimately um so anyways great to see everybody hope to see everybody tomorrow tomorrow's Friday um if you like what you saw hit the because of ice um and I need to because I'm doing a show next Tuesday and I've only pulled a couple of those films plus I have to pull a bunch of sperm footage for another project yeah that's what my
