e e I I I [Music] this is the story of The Ugly Duckling a fairy tale that was written by Huns Christian Anderson The Story begins like this it was summer and the countryside was very lovely in the fields the oats were still green and the wheat was golden yellow the hay was stacked in The Meadows and the shadowy woods were reflected in the lakes and ponds and near a pond in a quiet place in the tallest weeds sat a mother duck on her nest she was quite tired for she'd been sitting on her eggs for many days what was that sound yes the eggs were hatching there were two little ducklings mother duck quacked with excitement now there were six ducklings how proud mother duck was of her family soon all the eggs were hatched no not quite all the biggest egg was still there so mother duck settled down once more on her nest she sat a long long time then finally she looked at the big egg once more then she thought she heard something yes there was another young one the mother duck looked at him well she thought he doesn't look like my other ducklings they all have yellow down and yellow bills he has a dark Bill and he's much larger too can he be a turkey chick well said the mother duck we'll find out out when we go to swim in the pond the next day they went to the pond the big gray duckling LED all the rest yes the big gray one swam very well as well as the others he is no turkey chick said mother duck see how well he swims but he doesn't look like the others the poor Gray duckling was left to swim alone finally mother duck called him and all the others let's all go into the farmyard said mother duck so into the farmyard they went the little ducklings began to look around for something to eat but the big gray duckling just stood still he felt strange and lonely a hen said you don't look like the other ducklings the old Goose GED at him the old turkey gobbled at him and a duck said you're an ugly duckling the poor duckling wanted to run away but a rooster stopped him yes you are an ugly duckling said the rooster and so in the days that followed the poor duckling thought I suppose I am ugly and he tried to stay hidden near the barn oh to be sure he ventured out now and then waddling Along on his webbed feet to join the other ducklings in finding things to eat finally one day a big old duck saw him and rushed at him and chased him away and then another duck ran after him and soon all the chickens rushed at him the ugly duckling was frightened he ran as fast as he could across the farmyard thre a hole in the fence and Out On and On he went past the cows in the meadow until he came to a big Marsh here in the Tall Grass he could hide his ugliness and then he saw a wonderful sight there in the water nearby were some big white birds the most beautiful birds he had ever seen he wanted to go to them but he knew he was too ugly then he saw some wild ducks when the they saw the ugly duckling they said you are very ugly but it's a big Marsh you may stay with us if you like and so the ugly duckling stayed in the marsh with the wild ducks one day something happened a hunting dog came into the marsh there was a hunter too the Ducks started to fly The Ugly Duckling struggled to get out of the marsh across the fields he went he didn't stop until he saw in the distance a little cottage it was a very nice Cottage with roses growing over the doorway The Ugly Duckling walked toward the cottage the door was open so in he went it was very cold Coy inside this will be a safe place to sleep he thought and he sat down by the fireplace the next morning when he awoke he saw a hen then he saw an animal he didn't know it was a cat when the old woman who lived in the cottage saw the ugly duckling she said what a on Earth is that come here she said and she picked him up what an oddl looking duck you are she said but you're quite big and plump perhaps now I shall have some duck eggs anyway I shall keep you and we'll see so the days passed and The Ugly Duckling stayed at the cottage with the cat and the hen but they didn't like him him can you purr said the cat no said the ugly duckling can you lay eggs said the hen no said the ugly duckling and he felt quite useless then what can you do said the hen and the cat well I can swim said the ugly duckling then why don't you go where you can swim they asked so he left the Cottage and wandered away once more he was larger now for he had grown much during the summer yes he was quite big but he was still a lonely ugly duckling he looked about summer was over and Autumn had come a raven PED in the cold wind The Ugly Duckling moved on while the Autumn wind blew the leaves from the trees finally he came to a pond and there he stayed the Autumn slowly passed then the winter came the pond was frozen [Music] over the countryside was white under a covering of snow near the pond in the shelter of some pine trees The Ugly Duckling stayed sometimes he ventured out to look for food leaving his tracks in the snow but most of the time he spent in his shelter under the big pine trees and then at last the snow melted spring came The Ugly Duckling looked up at the bright Sky he looked at the beautiful spring blossoms he looked at the sparkling Pond now I can swim he thought he looked into the water and what do you think he saw himself as though in a mirror look he was no longer an ugly duckling he was a large white [Music] bird yes he was a beautiful white bird like those he had seen some children on the shore saw him and called out look a new Swan yes he is the most beautiful Swan of all that's what the ugly duckling had grown up to be a swan a handsome white swan the children fed him and were very friendly he was no longer unwanted he spread his Snowy White Wings then he slowly swam out to join the other Swans in the pond now no one chased him or called him ugly and so at last he was [Music] happy hello everybody I'm skip Alzheimer welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mm films unless a client shows up like right at the beginning of my show so that's why I jumped from that uh your character outtakes featuring Dick York to Ugly Duckling um is I had to uh work with a client because sometimes we have to do work to pay the bills here at a Geeks we can't just keep showing you fun stuff um anyways so ugly duckling uh that's part of the coret collection that we've started scanning again um and and U hopefully I can find a color print of that um yeah that was uh uh triggering I'm sure uh if you felt like an ugly duckling as a kid the payoff isn't until the end but it's pretty bleak until that end so uh so I've shown I feel like silent versions of this but this is uh perau and the rainbow weather science and this was cornette introducing in yet another character uh in the late 70s early ' 80s to explain different things like it seemed like there were several of those of which wondercat was one U and this is uh and I think that's how you pronounce it P we'll we'll hear because this has sound like the original one I showed didn't have sound so here we go uh weather science Pau and the rainbow enjoy [Music] look Pio the sun's coming out there's going to be rainbow rainbows have such beautiful colors I wish I wish I could get so close to a real rainbow that I could touch [Music] it I wish I could touch a [Music] rainbow oh how I wish I [Music] [Music] could rainbow rainbow where where are you here I am Rainbow Oh rainbow I love all your colors they're all so [Music] beautiful wait don't go away where are you going rainbow rainbow wait you're going too fast wait for me I want to touch you please please wait for me yay I'm falling I'm falling no you're flying you're flying you're [Music] [Applause] Fly Pio huh what happened where's the rainbow Ben rainbow pero look you tripped and fell I did I did of course you've been daydreaming again there wasn't any rainbow yes there was I flew through it you've all seen a rainbow now let's find out what makes a rainbow I've drawn the end of a prism on the board it has the shape of a triangle when a ray of sunlight passes through a prism the sunlight spreads into a band of colors Violet is on one end of the band and red is on the other and all the other colors are in between when it rains the air is full of tiny drops of water anytime the Sun comes out while it's raining you'll see a rainbow because all the drops of water act like tiny prisms rays of sunlight shine into millions of little raindrops the ray Gaz bounce back towards your eyes spreading into a band of colors to make a rainbow so the next time the sun comes out while it's raining take a good look around you may see a rainbow but remember since a rainbow is only made of sunlight you can see what but you'll never be able to touch one Pier touched one yeah he flew through one wait a minute tell us about it Piero this might be interesting [Music] so that that music has a real Euro film vibe to it I'm I'm sure it's just library music but um it it also could be because Katrina's been out of town my wife uh I've been watching an inordinate amount of uh European horror movies from the late '70s and early 80s and so that beginning soundtrack I was like whoa like this is uh somebody's going to get murdered uh or like head is going to go through play glass window or something um that was my My Vibe all right what do we got here um somebody mentioned Marsh um let's why don't we explore the marsh enjoy [Music] n [Music] [Applause] [Music] spring finally came and our teacher Mr D took us to the marsh it's exciting there were lots of strange sounds and everything was really starting to grow Mr day had a book that told about the marsh it told about how the marsh is a kind of wetland with water and islands of plants there are fresh water marshes and saltwater marshes and marshes CL swamps hey remember I saw the first animal and I saw the first bunch of flowers some Marsh flowers like on the willow didn't even look like flowers last year's Cattail flower sure looked funny they were all dried out what do you expect remember the redwinged Blackbird there were a lot of blackb birds in the marsh he kept showing off his colors the lady Blackbird wasn't Bri she was too busy to show off she had to gather things for her nest it looked like she was almost finished yeah that's right remember the other blackbird nest we saw oh yeah the one with the eggs in it and the third nest with the mother Blackbird feeding her babies Mr J really knew where to find things he sure did yeah like those frog eggs he said they'd be hatched when we came back in the summer you think that was the mother we saw Maybe we sure scared her but we didn't scare the raccoon he was just looking for food remember when Tommy found those beetles near the shore they were kind of silly what were they called whirly gig beetles yeah whirly gig what kind of name is that I saw the Ducks first they were mards remember Mr day told us oh yeah and those ducklings were so cute I like the other bird better the [Laughter] green remember the baby beads that were hatching their nest were slow Mr day said Greaves can swim when they're born as soon as they're born I didn't hear him say that well he did right before he showed us the Muskrat I never saw a muskrat before wow can they swim they eat the roots of plants that grow underwater we were walking by the shore and Mr Dave found that uh salamander right salamander it can live on land or in the water just like the water snake we saw remember that oh yes we saw the snake right before we had to leave Mr day said there' be more things to see when we came back in the summer [Music] the plants were much taller the grasses and new Cattails were all grown [Music] up there were different birds too like the kill deer I wonder why they call it a kill deer I'll never forget that duck that dived underw for food boy he could sure hold his breath a long [Music] time have about those Coots we saw they sure made funny noises maybe that's why they call them crazy Coots a Mr day showed us what they eat sometimes the duck weed ducks eat it too remember how it floated but what about the alrey it looks like spinach but it didn't have leaves or stems or roots The Cattails were a lot different Jimmy said the flower was like a big furry hot dog it had a round stem it was different from that other Marsh plant with the flat sided stem the pickeral weed stem grew way up out of the water and so did the leaves but the water lily leaves floated Mr day said the roots were in the mud with the whole stem underwater the painted turtle it was really [Music] neat Mr day said only certain fish can live in the marsh yeah like the bluegills and the mud minnows my dad and I use mows when we go fishing crayfish can live in the marsh too yeah but they're not really fish no but neither were the tadpoles we found but they sure look like fish they were the babies that hatched from the frog eggs we saw in the spring Mr day said they'd be frogs yeah after they grew their legs and lost their tails one tple almost did lose his tail remember when that hungry dragonfly nymph bit him Mr day said the dragonfly lives the first part of his life underwater but then it comes out and begins to shed its skin after it leaves its old skin it swings dry and open it starts flying around looking for [Music] food I never knew there was so much happening in the marsh I wish could have looked around some more hey maybe Mr D will take us back there again yeah and I hope it's soon let's ask him now that's a great idea that's weird that they just cut the mic that was really uh abrupt um yeah the marsh uh let's see what do we got I see what time it is all right um we're going to what this uh as I said besides working with cornet collection and the prer collection and our own collection I've been uh also working with some files from the uh National Archives um I fear for the National Archives right now uh some people have been got laid off um and uh there's someone uh their archist got uh fired a Revenge firing and um that just doesn't bode well doesn't bode well for our uh nation's memory um and U not very happy about it so uh I will try to do what I can to help those that I know that work there and uh I will keep sharing stuff that is part of our national history because that is important um so this film is an interesting part of our national history it's called for which we stand to be held in honor what do you think that that film is about for what we stand to be held in honor uh cuz when I watched it I was like whoa I'd never heard of this film and this is something that I had researched at some point so in the comments for which we stand to be held in honor what do you think that film is about it is a military film all right here we go let see if you're right enjoy [Music] [Applause] [Music] ch [Applause] health until death do us part what is in the heart and mind of this girl as she pledges her thoughts her body her life to this man respect and admiration love and affection deep faith and a high hope for a good life together as man and wife and have so blessed in time to come as mother and father what is in the heart and mind of this man as he pledges his trust his body his sacred honor to this woman the answer lies in you for the man is you you who once stood in this holy place and took part in this Sacrament and you who will someday stand before God with a woman you love as this man stands today your answer may be freely given for you may come to this woman as she comes to you clean in body and spirit as you enter on a new way of life in which the best is yet to be or you may have no answer that can bear the light of day for in your conscience may be hidden closets where dead Things Are St violations of the vows you took today this man then is you and his answer is your answer freely given or hidden in secret places so God created man in his own image male and female created he them [Music] [Applause] and God blessed them and God said unto them be fruitful and multiply and replenish the Earth one man one woman Sanctified in the sight of God and in the presence of their fellow Men by sacred RIT and ring as man and wife given only to each other forever and ever more this is the law of God this is the way of life for the children of God on Earth reduced to the simplest terms and applied to us as individuals the standard for personal conduct can be summed up in the question how honest are you you won't cheat at cards it's a matter of fair play and a sense of decency so win or lose it's on the up and up you're not a thief at heart and you hold no truck with anyone that is but what about sex you men who are married and you men who hope to be married someday how honest are you when it comes to sexual Indulgence in terms of the moral responsibility to the decent women in your life just how faithful are you you know long ago when man and woman were new on Earth and Earth itself was young possession was permission sex was the animal expression of Primal Instinct historians of human life doubt and some deny that earliest man expressed such emotions as love and affection for the mother of his children [Music] but man had in him the spark of divinity he grew in wisdom and he became Master of the earth he discovered in himself new evidence of character here man began to express the human values we call kindliness friendship and tenderness the relationship between husband and wife parents and children has developed through the centuries into a natural expression of mutual trust and affection the modern man living in honor and intimately sharing in family love brings permanent happiness to his marriage and family life instead of the loose talk about women and sex you usually get in Bull sessions let's have the real load down what are the facts about women and sex especially the business business of illicit [Music] sex for the most part that's what it is a business highly organized and highly profitable to those who run it not the girls themselves they usually wind up with the least in terms of money and the most in terms of degradation and disease where does the money go of those men who patronize prostitutes to the madams who manage the houses their cut is at least half of anything paid to the girl the gangsters and underworld Big Shots who own the business the vice syndicates whose take runs in the millions every year to Crooked police and politicians who sell protection this is the financial pattern of prostitution money that supports a dirty business run by the scum of the earth debasing women and men who use them spreading disease and supporting political corruption when of of the chief arguments used to justify sexual Indulgence outside of marriage is that it's necessary in order to stay healthy and retain sexual power more nonsense has probably been spoken on that phase of sex than on any other the medical officer can give us the correct information take his temperature yes sir I'll be with you in just a minute boys often you have heard it said that unless the sex urge is satisfied when it develops some emotional or even physical harm will develop no responsible physician would subscribe to such a statement many men are told that they must have sexual intercourse in their late teens or have it frequently once they have started in order to avoid harm or even loss of their virility or sexual power this is absolutely not true if you want to justify sexual activity outside of wedlock you're going to have to find something outside of medical grounds abstinence from sexual intercourse has no adverse effect on a man's health or his future sexual ability the man who limits his sexual experiences to loose women tends to develop sexual habits and a frame of mind on a low animal level such a man comes to value a woman not for her qualities as a fine companion a wife or a mother of his children but only for her body he's the cynic the wise guy who knows everything there is to know about women the best phone numbers the best places where you can get it cheap and maybe free what to say what to do he'll tell you all about it whether you're interested or not if you have other things to do he'll give you a snarl of disgust with animal insistence on fixing them up he'll take all followers as part of the pack leading him on the hunt for his kind of [Music] game he has all women pegged as Tramps and pushups this is the loudmouthed lady killer and sexual athlete who laughs at such things as decent manners kindness love and affection whether he admits it or not he's a poor sucker trapped by his own sense of false values [Music] looking only for sexual Bargains his choice is limited to cheap [Music] women the man who repeatedly uses a professional prostitute or a sexually promiscuous amateur that man can permanently damage his ability to enter into the love relationship which makes possible a happy marriage and a successful Family [Music] Life The Ladies Man Of America that's the man in uniform according to an outdated Legend still believed by men in the [Music] service the girl in every port kind of romantic nonsense that gives many a serviceman delusions of grandeur about himself and his irresistible [Music] charm he thinks he has a reputation to uphold as a he-man member of the Armed Forces of the USA and so every chance he gets he's out to make a conquest he likes it when they're hard to get it gives him the chance to show his power makes him think he really has something this time no professionals for this guy his women are for free except maybe for a few drinks and food and a cab Fair home [Music] oh he's the big moment in her life and she's his only his says he this man is kidding himself and he needs to wise up to The Facts of Life with easy pickup one guy is pretty much like another there's usually been someone ahead of him enjoying the big moment he thought was only for him this man raided with a pickup only while he was taking his turn but there'll be someone else to fill his place after he's [Music] gone this is sex on the prow [Music] the innovant privacy of husband and wife at the end of the [Music] day the unspoken expressions of deep affection shared in the quiet confidence of mutual [Music] love she belongs to him him only him and he knows it he belongs to her only her and she's sure of it on this High human level a man's sexual relations are associated with respect and tenderness a real concern for his partner and other sentiments that any man has deep in his heart for the woman he loves how you men manage your sex life is a matter not only for the chaplain and the doctor it is also my responsibility as a commanding officer for those of you who consider it a serviceman's right to cut loose on leave here's a statement from one of our outstanding military figures with which I fully agree I do not excuse sexual promiscuity nor do I consider it a necessary evil associated with military life I consider the greatest factor opposing promiscuity to be proper religious and moral training with constant emphasis on self-restraint with marriage and family as a goal I expect such training to be encouraged in every practical way [Music] is it always a strong sexual urge that drives a man to houses bars and the streets in search of an easy woman in many cases the answer is no very often sexual desire has nothing to do with it sometimes it's just plain curiosity he wanted to see what it was all about to find out if it was anything like they said it was for him it was sorted rather than exciting embarrassing rather than satisfying leaving him with a disgust not only for the woman but for [Music] himself The Crawling feeling which a decent man gets from the use of commercial sex actually he didn't want any part of it but he lacked the moral courage to live up to his own principles and convictions some things that men do are harmless pastimes and as such they're a man's own private business but sexual relations never belong to this class they always affect another they involve sacred human personality and a basic loyalty that is one of the reasons why illicit sexual practices are condemned by a direct commandment of God Thou shalt not commit adultery but God never makes a demand upon us that he does not give us the power to meet those who obey the Commandment can continue to receive God's strength and guidance to continue in obedience those who have violated the Commandment can receive forgiveness for the violation and then return to obedience such forgiveness depends upon a sincere desire to be forgiven and the intent and effort to avoid further violation by wanting it each man can have the honor and determination to saf guard and further Family Life by his standard of conduct each man can show the love and will to please his creator and abide by Divine Law no one says it's easy for a vigorous healthy man to practice control and restraint in matters of sex but such self-discipline is possible for anyone who accepts it as necessary and worthwhile each man avoids many things that he's tempted to do just because they aren't worth the price of doing them it's an aid to self-control to keep a strong sense of contact and association with the folks at home and especially esally the women who mean most to you your wife or your mother a girl from school or your hometown when two broke or too far away to phone a visit the mail still goes through binding relationships exchanging intimate thoughts sharing plans attendance at religious services and the private worship of God enables a man to strengthen his standard of conduct by the faith of his choice practice the acceptable adult relationships the Mixed Company with its social satisfaction for both men and women Partners at a dance or party an evening during the town or seeing a movie Double dates to share a car with a stop for food to finish the evening ways of enjoying the pleasure of the opposite sex which will stand the light of day home will be a finer happier place to come back to tense and excited waiting will bring the welcome you [Music] want you'll be able to greet her with a clean heart and hold them the clean Embrace family and friends will be more wonderful to see again no questions to be feared nor eyes to be avoided and no subjects which mustn't be touched you'll be coming back without hidden closets in your conscience proud of the service you're part of and with good clean memories of your hitches one man one woman who share their love only with each other not willing to do anything to spoil let love this kind of love given in a happy marriage is the most satisfying expression of man's sex life Sanctified in the sight of God and in the presence of their fellow Men by sacred RIT and ring as man and wife given only to each other forever and ever more this is the law of God this is the way of life for the children of God on Earth and to be held in Honor by all [Music] men well I was not expecting that when I watched the film or when I was scrubbing through at the beginning of it I was like huh what is this and I kept going and then I would like play little segments and I was like whoa all right um because uh really early on when I started collecting films I started uh collecting veneral disease films because I worked at the American Social uh Health Association which used to be the American Social hygiene Association which made a bunch of films educating people about the dangers of minerial disease and so I did a lot of research on different films that were out there and this one didn't pop up um I guess because it doesn't totally talk about veneral disease it's really more about the morality of prostitution uh and all that but man holy cow it delivers uh and ultimately why does the Navy care because uh Sailors would get sick uh because Sailors would get wrapped up in Criminal activities that they weren't supposed to be getting wrapped up in uh it didn't bode well to uh have uh Navy people uh Sailors showing up at a port internationally and uh basically um looking for prostitutes they just didn't it's not good for the Navy's image um so anyways that's what that's about really fascinating so I got this email last night um from YouTube and a lot of times I get emails from YouTube like all the time I get emails from YouTube almost always excuse me it's like you can't monetize this video because the music or sometimes something gets blocked because somebody has claimed it um uh mostly they claim it uh erroneously uh sometimes they they write on the money they're like oh okay yes you you do own that but so this is let me read to you what the email was because it's fascinating the subject is need help you're not alone hi there we're reaching out because members of the YouTube Community including fellow creators viewers or staff have expressed concern for your safety or well-being after coming across content you posted with topics related to self harm or suicide video point of return 1965 five if you know if you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thinking or self harming know that there is help and that you are not alone it's not uncommon to turn to suicidal thinking and self harm is a way to cope with painful emotions talking to someone can help you process these emotions as well as get support through difficult times um so the film is was made in 1965 and uh is about suicide and it's basically talking about suicide um and it you know it's kind of progressive in a way because it's talking about suicide like and talking about what to look out for and you know that there is help out there so it's interesting that it it kind of read the transcript and then immediately has this knee-jerk response of sending me this email I think it's great because uh especially with young people people that talk about suicide uh sometimes are you know they need that help they need that reach out so I'm happy ultimately in the big picture of things one that it's not a copyright strike two um that they reached out that's very nice uh and I would say to any of you out there who are watching um you know it's a rough time it's a really rough time uh you're not alone Reach Out reach out to someone reach out to a friend reach out to family reach out to your chaplain your Naval chaplain reach out to uh if you go to church or Temple go go there and try to find somebody uh and then also there are support lines and um places that you can get support um just reach out because you're worth it we want you to show up and watch our films because we have so many films to watch and we need your eyeballs to watch those films so there you go uh and then seconds ago I just got another email not from YouTube but from uh the Department of Justice antitrust division uh regarding uh Getty uh potentially acquiring shutter stock these are two stock footage companies and so I'm going to be interviewed about this this is totally crazy totally crazy to me I'm not sure exactly what's happening but uh well I know that they're they're trying to merge and for me that's bad because when you have these giant companies merging that means that uh that we the consumer and we the provider of content uh suffer so there you go that's that's the avgeeks mailbag today hey I appreciate you guys tuning in uh and watching what we're throwing out there um tomorrow join us tomorrow when is tomorrow Wednesday um we are on the verge of some crazy weather so crazy weather means a couple of things that they will immediately cancel school that uh all the bread and the milk will be gone from the grocery stores tonight and uh it means that we might lose power so if we lose power uh I won't be able to uh stream to you or if we lose Internet um but we'll give it a shot we'll see what we can do um but hey I appreciate you guys so much it means a lot to me um that
