foreign hmm hi everybody I'm skip Alzheimer welcome to the AV Geeks lunchtime streaming show it felt appropriate to show a film about Niagara Falls because it is pouring outside it is so gross um like oh it's actually a little bit brighter than it was but like at noon it was like dark like it would have been at 5 PM it was really anyways I drank a bunch of coffee and soldiers through wearing a nice sweater because it's cold I know some of you are actually enduring uh Frozen temperatures uh and so please stay safe and um uh don't get hurt uh doing dumb things uh in cold weather or um on the ice for snow uh so behind me I've got a film scanner set up oh I should tell you old radios thank you so much for the coffee um because that works wonders for us uh so behind me I have a scanner set up I'm going to show you a weird film um this is weird because of the way it's formatted and let me type this out uh this is part of the the Aetna drivo trainer series which was um this kind of cool thing where you would sit in a little fake car with a steering wheel Gas Pedal brake and you would and it looks like a gear shift on this model but you would interact with a film that was being shown and then you would be graded based on how you did in this interaction and the film itself was wide formatted so it was actually squished and so what I've done is I've try to make it a little bit more realistic it's not 100 and the other thing is that there's an audio soundtrack but there's also another soundtrack uh that is sending information to the driveway trainers um and I'm not sure what it's doing but you'll see it and you'll hear it and I've set up uh uh noise suppression so it's not so jarring but it's still pretty jarring so just be aware so this is um the Aetna driver trainer um film I have a couple of these but this one is pretty great all right enjoy so you can see the full frame here driving is more than starting steering and stopping a car you must learn to identify critical objects and conditions predict changes in possible conflicts in the traffic picture side on appropriate defensive responses and execute the responses needed to adjust the speed and direction of your vehicle watch Through The Eyes of this driver and listen to his thoughts kids playing close to the street they might run into my path better slow and steer away from them [Music] thank you let's learn to apply ipde principles get set to drive start your engine exercise effective identification demands aggressive seeking out for hazards ahead behind there you go togethers and decisions C to 25 miles per hour have you identified the hazard ahead Narrow Street and stop bus are you predicting that the bus might be hiding an intersection or that a passenger might Dart from behind it can you identify any moving or stationary hazards on the left or to the rear okay the decision to cover the break and steer slight lift is a good one by reducing your speed time and by steering left you are adding a sacred distance between your car accelerate to 30 miles per hour effective decision making applies for maximum distance between you potential dangers the same principle applies wherever you are right here you should identify the car on the right predict he will back into the street decide to slow have you identified the two cars and predicted a possible conflict accelerating three miles per hour are you getting the ibde approach to driving let's ease drop on an expert driver verbalizing his observations and thoughts as he applies ipde principles car moving in on the right may not stop a break slow down he's moving over no signal wait turns like that we're now move up to speed far very close behind they try to pass that car behind is turning left another one behind but well back later in this lesson your instructor may call on one of you to continue the commentary but first let's listen to the driver again must move over to the center of the street from my left turn a few blocks ahead wait there's a car moving up behind me let him buy clear now glance back and move over there's my turn where that car is coming out that oncoming traffic looks farther from the intersection okay watch that parked car it might pull out or a door may open kids on the left your instructor calls out your name check traffic left foreign check that check right at the next intersection turn left foreign let's try it again be ready to report on your observations and thoughts foreign identify any problems here [Music] did you predict something like that might happen proceed straight ahead [Applause] foreign foreign foreign thank you [Applause] where those men are standing turn left check flight so I'm going to um turn off the last bit so here's some of you are just tuning in so this is a film that was meant to be shown for someone that was in a drivo trainer and there's a couple things to notice here uh one thing is in the in the upper right hand corner of the frame you'll see that there's a rear view mirror uh then you'll see the what you saw occasionally it would bring up um this barcode to the right uh of the frame and oh driver Vision drive a vision it's hilarious um anyways that barcode would send a message uh regarding something in the driveway trainer unit um and so you would it would print out like a test uh or it would tally something somehow a test of what you were doing and here's a early example of the drivo trainer uh so you see the projector and the kind of towards the upper left hand corner and it's a special projector that has a lens that makes it uh that stretches out the image so that it's not so squatty uh and it also I showed you all the top and the bot the the frame and then a little bit of the top the frame before and a little bit of the frame after and so you can see the soundtrack uh and anytime that weird sound came on you wouldn't hear that sound uh if you're doing the driver trainer thing like the the special driver trainer or drive a vision um projector would only have an optical reader that was reading that the optical part and not the part that was with the barcode barcode was probably read with something else and then um sent a message to what to whatever um there's a lot of guesswork here I would love to acquire one of these and get something running or at least be able to test this film with someone who has this set up somewhere um I've seen I remember at my high school I saw one of the the little driver trainer things but it wasn't they didn't use it probably you know it broke it was probably all these moving parts that just didn't get um repaired but uh anyways it's fascinating film I figured you guys could handle it uh so there it is drive a vision all right let's learn about Mr Russell l uh uh shree cart shree cart anyways enjoy [Music] fellow astronauts in training with Mr Russell L Schweikert describe him as one who likes to get involved has an inquisitive and scientific mind plus an intense enthusiasm for learning [Music] foreign [Music] born in New Jersey Rusty Schweikert earned both The Bachelor of Science and master of science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology then remained as a research scientist in the experimental astronomy laboratory doing research in Upper atmospheric physics star tracking and stabilization of Stellar images he added flying to his career joining the United States Air Force in 1956 and after that the Massachusetts Air National Guard as a pilot he logged over 2 400 flight hours mostly in jet aircraft when NASA selected the third class of astronauts for trading in October 1963. Rusty Schweikert was among the group of 14. it was a double honor since up to this time only two other civilians had been selected for training [Music] Rusty Schweikert moved his family to the Nassau Bay Community near the manned spacecraft Center which also included the homes of astronauts Jim mcdivitt and Dave Scott he plunged into Astronaut training with characteristic Zeal whether in a classroom [Music] on a field trip or involved in a test Rusty Schweikert was conspicuous by his unreserved interests and for the benefit of joshing friends a perennial boyish appearance foreign in the fall of 1964 Rusty Schweikert helped in NASA's research and development program by wearing a Gemini pressure suit for eight days to test biomedical instrumentation [Music] with biosensors taped to his body to record physiological reactions he flew in jet aircraft to produce both weightless and high gravity conditions spent several days in a Gemini spacecraft mock-up to approximate a space mission and underwent High acceleration simulations to duplicate flight and re-entry situations without a flight assignment in Germany Rusty schweikert's General Astronaut training was soon converted to specialized Mission training in the more complex Apollo in April 1966 he was named a backup pilot for the first manned Apollo flight and trained with the prime crew of spacecraft 12 until November shortly after that the fire that claimed the lives of the Prime crew at Cape Kennedy canceled all flight schedules upon reactivation of Apollo flights astronaut Schweikert was assigned to the second manned Apollo flight AS lunar module planet with Jim mcdivitt's spacecraft commander and Dave Scott Command Module pilot still another change NASA switched them from Apollo 8 to Apollo 9 the third manned flight ing a later Mission meant more time for training even more time for development of one's physical stamina so often necessary to an astronaut foreign [Music] Schweikert at Mission Control during the Apollo 5 flight Mission success was especially important to him since this was the first test in space of an unmanned lunar module the same type of spacecraft he would be piloting on the third man flight on Apollo 9 two complex spacecraft will be flown during the approximate 10 days of flight while Apollo is in Earth orbit lunar module pilot Schweikert with spacecraft Commander mcdivitt will use an intra vehicular tunnel to transfer from Command Module to lunar module to check out its systems foreign they will perform Rendezvous and docking Maneuvers with the command service module practicing in Earth orbit what another space crew must do in lunar orbit extra vehicular activity will include transferring from lunar module to command service module by using external surface translational AIDS without re-entry capabilities the lunar module will be left in space after serving its primary pioneering purpose [Music] checkout of a lunar module for the upcoming lunar Landing mission is a critical undertaking it is a challenge for the combined abilities of Rusty Schweikert and his fellow crewmen in Apollo 9 but one that will be met with confidence foreign there you go Rusty Apollo 9. uh let's see uh you guys want some animation um and also learn about uh parliamentary procedure here's Mr chairman enjoy [Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome back [Music] and finally Mr chairman why should we refer this matter to a committee we're competent to handle it Mr chairman Mr Babcock Mr chairman I move that we postpone the question indefinitely the motion is out of order I don't think anyone will question the accuracy of these figures I feel sure I'm afraid I do Mrs Clark may I ask what is the source of your remarks are out of order Mrs Davis Mr chairman Mr Edwards Mr chairman before we vote to lay the pending motion on the table I have something I'd like to say about it I don't think the members the members remarks are out of order well did those three chairmen seem to be running the meetings with a high hand does the chairman boss a meeting not at all a chairman is simply one of the members chosen by the others to see that the rules are applied everything must be according to ruins a century ago I was an instructor in engineering at West Point served in the Civil War and then supervised the building of many Harbor improvements docks Bridges and so on as the Army's chief of Engineers by the way I was a brigadier general by this time you may be wondering why I should be talking to you on this subject well my name is Henry Martin Robert and in 1876 I published a book which deals with this subject a book you probably know Robert's Rules of Order by now there are a lot of books and what is rather grandly called parliamentary procedure which translated into a simple term means how to talk things over and reach decisions you can't do this efficiently and fairly without rules so whether your group is a union local or a town meeting or a summer youth group or a Legion Post or a group of Scholars or a Women's Club or any other group trying to function as a unit what you want to do is to adopt as a body the rules are set forth in one of the many available handbooks basically they are all in agreement let's get clear on a few fundamentals the rules exist to make sure of certain things the first is that on any question the will of the majority must Prevail that's obvious but it's just as important that the minority shall have it say freely in other words a well-conducted meeting is a good example of democracy in action another fundamental is that rules are necessary in order to get things done without waste of time let's get down to business and see how the rules work it has been moved and seconded that the club's annual dues be increased to 75 is there any discussion all those in favor say aye aye all those opposed say no no the motion is carried well if all business could be conducted like that that is if a meeting consisted of just passing one such motion after another everything would be very simple but many things can happen to such emotion before it is put to a vote let's go back and put that same motion before the meeting again it has been moved and seconded that the club's annual dues be increased to 75 is there any discussion Mr chairman it looks as if there is to be a good deal of discussion that motion to raise the club's dues is what is called a primary motion that is a motion which if passed will commit the organization to a definite action all motions have an order of priority a primary motion such as the one just made to raise the club's dues has the lowest priority of all it's the first one made but the last one voted on if other motions are made which affect it an amendment to the primary motion and amendments to an amendment have priority over the primary motion because the primary motion must be voted on as amended after amendments are approved now then about 20 motions in all are possible though normally in any meeting only a few of them are actually used at the moment we are dealing with a 10 whose priority it is most important to know about and what do you think has nearly top priority a motion to adjourn that's right unless voting on another motion is actually going on or unless someone is speaking a motion to adjourn is always an order except that unless the time for the next meeting is already established a motion to set the time for it has priority over the motion to adjourn and why this top priority to adjournment simply because it isn't logical to keep a meeting going when a majority of the members want to end it what a majority wishes for any reason to avoid voting on a primary motion right away they can do it in any one of several ways they can suspend the meeting briefly by voting for a recess or they can postpone action on a primary motion to a more favorable but unspecified Time by laying it on the table or they can schedule the primary motion for consideration at a later but specific time or they vote to refer the matter to an appropriate committee for study and Report always an important possible motion is this one if a primary motion is under debate and the majority considers it has heard all it needs to hear it can vote a closed debate immediately all of these secondary motions are AIDS in determining the will of the majority as to modifying or disposing of the primary motion hence their priority over the primary motion is logical the priorities among them are based on relative urgency and now let's watch some of these priorities in operation here's a meeting of a parent Teachers Association in the town of anywhere at the moment a primary motion is under debate surely the problem of a parking lot for the teachers can be solved without cutting down the size of the playground the playground is too big now but the number of pupils is bound to increase by at least 50 percent by all means let's pass the motion to petition the school board Mr chairman Mr Gibson Mr chairman I move the consideration of this matter be postponed to the April meeting I second the motion Mr chairman Mr Harris I move that the matter be referred to the committee on policy the motion to refer to a committee is out of order the Chairman's ruling is correct the motion to refer to a committee has a lower priority than the motion to postpone to a definite time which therefore must be dealt with first if at all Mr chairman Mr Jackson I will the debate be closed I second the motion it has been moved and seconded the debate be closed all those in favor say aye aye those opposed say no no having received more than a two-thirds vote the motion to close debate has passed we will now consider the motion to petition the school board in the matter of the playground Mr chairman Mr Kennedy point of order Mr chairman please State your point of order if I'm not mistaken the motion to postpone this matter to the April meeting is still pending your point is well taken we will now consider the motion to postpone the matter of the playground to the April meeting Mr chairman Mrs Larkin I move that we take a 20-minute recess I second the motion well that motion to recess with its high priority is going to delay for 20 minutes any vote on postponing to the April meeting we now see clearly that a good many things can happen to a primary motion besides an immediate vote all the chairman and the more members the better ought to be thoroughly familiar with the priorities of the 10 motions we've been dealing with actually those 10 have to make room for others occasionally for instance I don't think Nora spoke like a loyal member of this Union is he for us or for the management does he see their side because his wife has a job in the front office does he wish he was there himself point of privilege Mr chairman I resent the members remarks they're in Sultan and they have no place in this discussion your point is well taken no personalities Mr mogridge confine yourself to the merits of the question what I'd like to say is that the library staff is already working hard enough if the member kind of privilege Madam chairman stage your point please we can't listen to Mrs Owen and Chopsticks at the same time now please have the piano sight those two cases show why point of privilege has a high priority it is important to protect members from discomfort annoyance discourtesy or abuse and even from chopsticks in addition to the 10 that are outstanding there is quite an array of subordinate motions in general their priorities are assigned and their meaning clear but when we come to postpone indefinitely let's see how it differs from lay on the table this lady's pet motion has just been postponed indefinitely this really means her motion has been killed without a vote being taken on it a majority of members didn't think it was worth debating and this is the kindest way out our friend here has just had his motion laid on the table but he doesn't mind he is perfectly free to bring it up again at this same meeting if he wants to maybe he moved to lay his own motion on the table himself let's find out what was wrong in those episodes at the beginning when chairman were making those out of order rulings that was because a motion to refer to a committee was under debate and the motion to postpone indefinitely had a lower priority that was because a member wishing to take part in debate must first be recognized by the chairman and must address the chair not another member and that was because a motion to lay on the table is not debatable of course a small organization a mere room full of members can be as informal as they like they need not rise to address the chair matters may be discussed without the making of motions the chairman May participate freely and there may be a generally relaxed approach to the business in hand so long as votes are formally taken and the rights of both majority and minority are fully protected and that Mr chairman is why I disagree with the last two speakers the next year it's less than a month from now referring the matter to a committee is going to put us in a very awkward position I shall vote against the motion while those young people are debating I just wish to say that all I've shown you is the basic part of this subject the fundamental rules and why they are necessary Mr chairman Mr Russell I move we adjourn I second the motion it has been moved in second to the weird gerund all those in favor of the motion say aye aye those opposed say no no the eyes have it the motion is carried and the meeting stands adjourned foreign [Laughter] yeah parliamentary uh procedure Robert's Rules of Order certainly should be taught nowadays everybody before the start of any meeting involving the public everybody should watch it that's my uh that's my take on it um and I'm not going to take a vote for this next film sometimes I'm super puppy too but the other day I didn't feel very super as a matter of fact I wound up feeling pretty crummy I also wound up learning a lot about alcohol it all started out when I was looking for my favorite bone foreign [Music] yeah Grandpa are you asleep I guess so well I was just wondering if you'd seen my favorite bone you know the one I buried last week so it wouldn't get lost so when I really needed it like now that uh I'd know where to find it well I can't find it if you see it in any of your dreams could you please tell me thank you foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] where did I bury that bone [Music] I thought it was over here or was it over there when I was over there I thought it was here but I said over there at the time and now there is here and here is there oh I think I'm becoming confused I need to think [Music] I know I'll do what they do when they can't find me foreign [Music] obviously not what do you want with bones anyway bones are for dogs [Music] I am a dog so what don't you want to be cool yeah like God foreign cool yeah cool you know one of the guys are you trying to trick me into your garbage can Club again look at that Stoops all backs doesn't trust us all I was going to suggest is that you join us next door at little Ashley's house apparently her parents have gone out for the evening and her teenage brother is babysitting word has it he's going to have a party open house everyone's invited and he's gonna make some special Punch Yeah punch that has some extra punch to it if you know what I mean uh no I don't know what you mean what do you mean nah forget it Stoops old Bax doesn't want to be cool he'd rather play with a bone than have some real fun fun did you say fun yeah that's what I said as in whoop-dee-doo and hachita I like having fun ah never mind come on if Bax doesn't show up that just means more of that special punch for us it's time to party see ya pup yeah I'll see ya [Music] punch huh boy I bet they'll have cake and ice cream too and maybe they'll play pin the tail on the donkey and then maybe they'll play hide and go seek hey wait up you guys wait for me after save the punch for me [Music] gracious me I could have sworn I heard a cow out here must be a hole in the fence somewhere oh [Music] Baxter what's the matter with you I don't feel very good grandpa what happened I went to a party last night next door wasn't exactly the kind of party I thought it was gonna be anyway on my way home I fell down and bumped my knee now my head hurts and my tummy feels real bad too I must have swallowed one of the spikes in the punch spikes in the punch yeah they said they spiked the punch I guess I should have been more careful oh they spiked the punch that explains it that's what I was afraid of no no no you don't understand when they say they spiked the punch they don't mean that they put any spikes in it they mean they added some sort of alcohol [Music] yes like beer or wine or whiskey that sort of thing you mean I didn't swallow a spike no but you did swallow something pretty dangerous but you'll feel better as soon as the alcohol gets out of your body I'd venture to say you have yourself a little hangover hangover what a hangover is the bad feeling you get when you drink too much that was a dirty trick not telling you that there was alcohol in that punch it feels like I've swallowed a spite I believe you alcohol does some pretty nasty things to your body and your mind then how come so many adults drink so much of it well I'm sorry to say that a lot of them started out drinking for one reason or another and then come to find out that they can't stop why not some of them have a disease called alcoholism once they start drinking they have a real hard time stopping they need help but a lot of the time they don't even realize that themselves meanwhile they can feel pretty crummy because like I said it does some pretty nasty things to your body not to mention what it does to your mind and your decision making what do you mean there's lots of things you ought to be afraid of doing things that aren't safe or smart well when you drink alcohol it reduces your fear of things makes you think it's okay to do things that are not okay so you wind up doing things that are dangerous and risky I mean like trying to walk along the top of the fence on your way home and stuff [Music] as in uh trying to walk along the top of the fence and falling down and uh hurting your knee yeah like that that's exactly what I'm talking about that all takes place because of the effect that alcohol has on your body or anybody else's like what imagine that once upon a time there was a little house on body Street where all the parts of your body lived there was a brain that ran the household and told everyone what to do and when to do it and a heart that made sure that everyone was fed lots of nutritious food which the stomach cooked up in the kitchen using all the finest ingredients and then there was the liver its job was to take out the garbage and keep the house nice and clean everyone got along great and they were all very happy then one day alcohol came to visit them at first they all had a lot of fun they laughed a lot and felt very silly but soon alcohol was the only one who was laughing because the more alcohol was around the more everyone started to feel bad the brain started to not work as well it couldn't remember who should do what or when they should do it the heart didn't feel so good the longer alcohol was around the weaker it got it had a harder time delivering meals to everyone and the meals well the meals were getting worse and worse because the stomach was feeling sick too but the one that was the sickest of all was the liver and the cigarette got the less trash it could take out so the garbage started to pile up and up and up p u so you can imagine why no one was laughing anymore it may have started out feeling like fun but it didn't end up that way eventually all the organs got together and decided that they needed help in getting rid of this troublemaker it wasn't easy getting him out of the house and when they finally managed to do it they all agreed that the thing to do was to never let alcohol in again and that's what they did and they lived a whole lot happier Ever After so that's just about the second best thing you can do when it comes to alcohol what's the first best thing you can do never let it in in the first place I guess it's too late for me not really you just had a hard lesson that's all it'll wear off and once you make up your mind that you like yourself too much to do that to your body again why that alone should make you feel better actually I do feel better already sometimes I think your stories just make me better Grandpa gosh I don't know about that what's that reach me you're the new Watchdog around here why don't you go find out right [Music] foreign [Music] that music where is it coming from just down the street we're on our way looks like there's going to be another great party on the Block lots of stuff to drink if you know what I mean huh party time [Music] coming or what no I'm not if drinking alcohol and messing up my body are what it means to be cool then I'll be real happy to be something else like what like uh black [Music] a dog for each dish have it your ways [Music] I learned a lot today about alcohol and what it does to your body and mind some of it I learned the hard way but I feel great now and I intend to stay that way because I've made a decision I've decided not to drink because alcohol and super puppies don't mix oh foreign [Music] I know uh why do I why do I punish you show so much um it's because I love you um uh I don't think I've actually seen that film so I'm excited that I showed it to you and that I scanned it at 2K so I can share it with future Generations um anyhow uh Tom thank you for the coffee very much appreciate
