[Music] for oh [Music] we [Music] be l [Music] hold on a second hold on hold on a sec one second hold on [Music] all right holy cow so uh hi everybody um am I showing up yes okay uh so we're trying a little different software thing to kind of see uh because this is going to be in preparation for the celebration of our 1000 show so that was a little celebration it was loud and noisy canopus I mean I could have taken all thousand episodes and played them all at the same time but that's a lot of work and you would have hated it so I did a little bit of work and um you still hated it all right um thanks everybody for tuning in man so great uh so that was uh um what do we call that that was 200 by Vincent Collins who was a psychedelic animator who did a bunch of um interesting stuff and then he got a grant to make something for the United States information agency which is the propaganda branch of the United States government uh and it was for the bicentennial and so he made this and then he showed it um to well it was shown on television it was distributed a bunch of places it's pretty great and um there's also some slight Jabs at the Americans uh as far as our conspicuous consumption um I don't know if you saw it because it was so cacophonous but there was a uh Horn of PL beling forth TVs and cars hot dogs hamburgers baseballs um so yes anyways that's a great way to celebrate um and there's there were five of them so there you go okay so playing with this new system so there might be some uh hiccups but we're going to get through the hiccups now and uh we're going to watch film about talking and listening enjoy [Music] Last Summer Don visited his friends and asked them to come to his home he asked Phil he asked Sam he asked asked Phil his brother Alan and Paul he also asked Marvin and bir and Victor they met Tuesday [Applause] [Music] afternoon Don had asked the boys over because he had wanted to start a club [Applause] you're still not talking one at a time I think we've got to take turns not talk when anyone else does then who gets to talk first Don thought it over he remembered how it had been in school there when someone wanted to talk he raised his hand usually whoever raised his hand first got to talk first of course this was different from school I don't think that we have to raise our hands but why don't we make sure the person before has finished okay can I talk now yeah okay what I want to say is I don't know why you want us to get together we've already got Scout meetings and our ball team Len wait a while crowd and we don't have a chance to out wait let's let Phil talk first why not me because Dawn is running this meeting it's his house that's one way of deciding because Don was running the meeting he had to do a lot of the talk now listen this won't have anything to do with Scouts it'll cost the dime it won't have anything to do with the ball team I mean we'll have our regular meetings but not the same day as other things what was that about Don seemed to be talking about several things all at once why don't we talk first about what day we're going to meet school's going to start soon and a lot of us will have to be home by 5 bill is talking about only one thing meeting times the only way to get anything done is to talk about one thing at a time home after school and Marvin has to go to a special class after his regular school is that right Marvin you don't have to go every day do you no just Tuesday and Thursday can't you talk louder I can't hear I said no just Tuesday and Thursday that was better loud enough for all to hear but not too loud and it seemed that the boys had learned a few things about talking then we go fishing at theek most of them tried to take turns and each tried to make sure someone else wasn't talking before he began and when two boys wanted to talk I think we should get they let Don decide who would talk first though it was hard to do the boys tried to talk about one thing at a time and whoever was talking tried to talk loud enough they were this made things easier for the boys and it kept them from disturbing Don's sister Alice and her friends in the Next Room Alice was teaching Margo and Virginia to play her new game first you spin a number then whatever number comes up you move that many spaces ahead if you land on a green square you get an extra turn and you spin again if you land on a blue square you stay there but if you land on a red square you take a card that lets you know what to do next okay it's your turn Margo well Alice talked about one thing at a time and she talked loud enough for the others to hear so Margot should have known what to do if she'd been listening oh that's not right you only take a card if you land on red why the mistake Margot thought she knew I'm sorry I guess I wasn't listening listening can be important what's the use of talking clearly if the people you're talking two don't know how to listen but how do you listen Alice and her friends learned something about this as they talked about the game now in this part of the game you're supposed to say the number of cards you are going to pick the person to the right of lasts and I don't think stand for you to take three please don't talk while Alice is explaining a person can't listen well and talk at the same time so a good listener is quiet While others speak the girls wanted to learn the game so they tried to be quiet and to listen I was saying I spin once then you spin once whoever spins the highest number gets to move ahead 10 spaces whoever spins the lowest number has to move back to the others don't move at all they I'm sorry Mar but that noise bothers me it's hard to listen to what Alice is saying I guess I never thought of it that way before I'll stop well go ahead about the game I guess that's all I can remember now do you have any questions yes you said whoever spins the lowest number has to go back 10 spaces does that mean 10 spaces from where you are when you spin or 10 spaces from where you would be if you took your Alice are you listening yes well I'm sorry but it feels funny to talk with you looking the other way so Alice looked right at Virginia as she talked and she found that it really seemed to help Virginia speak Alice thought about that and about other things she and her friends had said about listening and as the game went on she tried to be quiet While others were talking to pay attention not play or do anything else at the same time and to look at the person who was talking a few minutes ago the boys had also learned some things about talking and listening things you might want to remember when you're with your friends or your family for instance riding in a car it's especially important to speak loud enough but not too loud loud talk can be disturbing to the driver at dinner too it's good to take turns talking when something important has happened and you're excited you might try to say a lot at once but remember it's better to talk about one thing at a time when you're shopping and want to learn about what you're buying of course you should listen While others speak and you know it's easier to learn something new if you look at a person who's talking and stop doing other things perhaps watching Don and Alice and their friends you've learned something too something about talking letting others know what you think and listening learning the things that others may have to [Music] say all right so all right so testing wait minute all right [Music] testing there are so many things going on here um I need to fix uh yeah um yeah so there's there's multiple ways to make a mic go live and to mute a mic yeah it's out of sync because it's actually it's coming from a different source so I have to kind of figure that out uh maybe I can figure this out I know what's going on all right how about now is that better totally out of sync totally out of sync playing with with some things here um as well yeah you know my my thing is uh nope still out of sink really oh wait how a syn how a sync um what about now am I in sync now Rick so uh yes it's it's not just going to be me uh testing everything uh it's the idea is that we're going to be getting um uh back to we'll be figuring all this stuff out okay it's in sync all right thank God uh just for a quick avgeeks update what's happening is I'm using OBS uh to to uh set up films to be shown and then that's streaming to uh restream and then I'm using restream Studio as a way to uh manifest and do different things uh bring up um comments occasionally although I don't know that might be really annoying um uh yeah all right what's going on now it's i w I want to hide everything okay I think that's working all right I'm I'm gonna stop all right we're gonna go to to uh yes Benjamin no one is directing this this is me trying to run it and also direct at the same time uh anyways I got a film set up on the scanner behind me behind me that's also wrong show all the comments Rick K says uh we'll experiment with that maybe tomorrow I don't want to do too much um but anyways uh in honor of a thousand shows which is what we're celebr crating today um I pulled a couple of films that have the word thousand in the title so this is a thousand eyes enjoy [Music] there's something interesting to see everywhere eyes help us find out about these [Music] things [Music] our two eyes are very very important for they give us bright clear pictures of the [Music] world [Music] eyes are important to every animal too did you know that a fly's eye is really made up of thousands of little tiny eyes a grasshopper has the same kind of eyes as a fly the grasshopper cares for its eyes by dusting them with special little brushes on its front feet when we want to see behind we have to turn around a grasshopper can see behind without moving it can see up and down front and back all around at the same time no wonder grasshoppers are hard to catch a snail's eyes are on the ends of long stalks look closely and you can see a little dark dot that little dot is the snail's eye you'd think that would be a dangerous place to have an eye but the snail has a good way of protecting its eyes a crab has its eyes on shorter stalks if a crab loses an eye it will often grow a feeler to replace it if a spider should lose an eye it will still have seven eyes left a spider has eight eyes you can see four eyes right in the middle of its head have you ever noticed that some animals like an ostrich Have Eyes On on the side of the head and others like the hawk Have Eyes on the front of the head watch how an owl has to turn its head to see things on either side some scientists believe that animals with eyes on the front of the head at one time lived in trees having the eyes in front helped tell them how far above the ground they were most animals with eyes on the front of the head are Hunters Lions don't have to worry about what's going on behind them rabbits do rabbits have eyes on the side of the head they can see all around a prairie dog's eyes are on top of the head when a Prairie dog comes out of its underground home it can see its enemies like Hawks and owls approaching from above the hippopotamus couldn't see very well if its eyes weren't on top a llama has long eyelashes eyelashes help keep tiny bits of dirt out of the eye the horned lizard has heavy thick eyelids to protect its eyes from the dusty Desert Winds goldfish have neither eyelids nor eyelashes their eyes are open all the time even when sleeping goldfish have a thin layer of clear skin over their eyes different animals have eyes of different [Music] colors our eyes are usually the same color as our mothers or fathers eyes all work in the same way but some people's eyes don't work as well as others when this boy takes off his glasses things look like this to him when he puts them on things look clearer with glasses his eyes are as good as anyone's have you noticed that eyes tell how people feel they show when they're mad and when they're glad can you think of an animal that has no eyes at all the earthworm doesn't need eyes where it lives but we do and that's the reason we should be careful with our eyes if sand or dirt gets in your eye don't rub blink hard or ask a grown-up to help you be very careful with pointed things like brushes pencils sticks never look right into the sun shade your eyes when you look at books be sure the light comes over your shoulder and not right into your eyes eyes are a wonderful and Priceless possession through them we can see things that are very close and we can see things that are millions and millions and millions of miles away that's how wonderful our eyes really [Music] are all right yeah I'm gonna have to try that uh more and more to see how that transition Works um so that film had a bent reel on it so I basically had to hold it because what what would happen is it would run across and it would catch and go kink Kink kink out of syn again really doesn't make any sense um am I out a SN but's all choppy all right let's just watch another film red is the color which means stop red means danger you should mentally see red whenever you pick up anything that cuts without crossing the red line can you cut yourself it can't be done keep this in mind when you hand a tool to somebody else keep it in mind when you pick up a tool all tools must be kept in safe condition a file without a handle is a hazard make sure the file you use has a handle don't take chances it's important to keep tools sharp a sharp tool does better work it's also safer to work with know how to treat tools correctly how to handle them safely and how to maintain them properly it doesn't take long long to sharpen a [Music] chisel a worn out screwdriver can be filed and reshaped into a good and safe tool you can rely on Sharp Tools a dull center punch has to be repointed to become a safe tool a sharp Point not only means an accurate punch but it also means the only only safe way to start the drill the correct tool is safe a dull Point means danger to keep tools safe treat them well every tool should have its proper place it's safe place safe storage is part of Maintenance carry tools correctly carry them safely the saw is the common cutting tool here too the safe way to use it is the correct way the danger of getting cut or slipping is greatest if you're getting [Music] impatient be sure you're using the correct type of blade for the work to start use your thumb as a guide as soon as the cut is started move your guiding hand away from the blade don't push or Force the cut too hard ease up on the final strokes this applies to any cutting [Music] operation the work should be supported and secured firmly keep your thumb High just touching the blade to start the cut remove this hand as soon as the cut is established be sure the saw blade is sharp and not warm for larger and more solid stock use a coarse tooed blade never apply too much force save yourself bruised Knuckles and cut fingers do your work safely make sure the Chisel you select for the job is sharp is safe store chisels in a safe place to protect you and to protect the tool a dull chisel requires more effort it slips easier and offers a greater chance of injury test the blade on a piece of scrap never with your fingers when using a mallet chips might fly but when chipping be sure to wear goggles and be sure nobody around you could get hurt before you start make sure the head of the Chisel is free of burs and hammer and chisel are clean and oil free the sharp Cutting Edge is the safe one a dull Cold Chisel and a bird head require the grinder a bird head on the cold chisel will not only reduce your control of the Chisel but might also chip those flying chips could cause injury to yourself as well as to others working around you it only takes minutes to grind off the Burr know what you are doing and how to do it safely if your thumb is used as a guide don't let that thumb get ahead of the [Music] Chisel you have a great selection of tools to work with each tool like this allen wrench is an instrument with a specific purpose the correct size will not slip will work properly screwdriver come in various types and different sizes only the right one will do the job [Music] safely don't use screwdrivers as chisels jimmies or levers misuse damages the tip and shank a damag tool is not safe for a safe job use a clean trim tip a damag tip will damage the screw the work or your fingers use the right-sized screwdriver and you'll avoid damage to the screw and possible injury to yourself wrenches should be clean and in good condition A Worn or oily wrench can slip too easily the right wrench used properly used safely ensures that your work is done well and that you'll avoid avoid bruised Knuckles or other [Applause] injuries use a Vie to support the work firmly so it will not shift as you are working be sure the Vie is tight or you'll stand the chance of injury work safely and think of safety when you leave the bench when a vise is not in use leave it tight minus half a turn this way if someone bumps into a vice handle it will give a little and not bruise him play it safe when you set up and leave it clean when you finish a job keep the shop a safe place to work [Music] in sharp edges can cut like knives sheet metal has to be treated with respect those those points can Pierce an ordinary [Music] shoe when handling sheet metal watch out for those around you wear gloves whenever possible to protect your hands most shears have guards still keep hands back from the blade don't get one foot under the tredd folding requires careful lining up don't forget your fingers gloves might be too awkward for handling smaller work but small edges and small Corners are just as sharp as big ones be extra careful do your friends a favor don't talk to them when they're working edges are like knives so protect your hands and use vice grips so nothing can slip sheet metal is heavy solid shoes on a non-slip mat and the best protection you can find for your hands are in important for your safety and also important for the [Music] job respect the safety zone around the machines never interfere when someone is working for his and your [Music] protection concentration is part of protection and tidiness is an important part part of safety make it a habit to clear your working area occasionally even if your job is not finished use a brush or broom and not your hands always play it safe a flame or heat employed safely is essential for many of your projects don't light up with a match know what you are doing whether you're using a forge or a welding torch the exhaust fan should be running before lighting up any Flame dress protectively eat shielding apron gloves and goggles the Anvil should be close to the forge don't endanger those around you before starting to work be absolutely sure that there is no material near that could mean danger of fire from flame Sparks or hot slag there are many hazards in this area the air should be kept circulating know all safe approved standards and rules know about all possible mishaps that could arise when acetylene and oxygen are mixed don't work with oily or greasy hands or gloves grease and oil anywhere are easily ignited and in the presence of oxygen burn fiercely check that valves are closed lay out enough hose and carefully to avoid kinking and strain on The Regulators check that all valves read zero before you open a cylinder valve always start with a settling 15 PSIG is the maximum pressure light the torch immediately to avoid free gas in the shop to light the forge use a small torch already lit then open the valve and light immediately remember the D is always present but that safe handling of tools will keep it under control even when for accuracy gloves could be a hindrance a heat tray is one good way to keep hot metal out of the way you wouldn't touch metal that looks hot but when it turns black and doesn't show the heat it contains it's just as dangerous [Music] don't play with fire use it properly [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] safely all right am I in sync now uh that ending was awesome uh and I think that was Alex tbec uh mostly because he has done educational film uh narrations and I think he did one called a dead bird uh which was great and he did um yeah he sent some others and this one was made by latchford latchford was a Canadian film company and they made it for coronette which was based in Chicago so there you go all right so I got another film set up for you uh in the Thousand uh Cate here is uh accent seems slightly I don't know well okay anyways um here's a thousand suns enjoy plants and only plants turn sunlight into things the food we eat the air we [Music] breathe soon we may have a new source of warmth Fusion the power that makes the sun glow the stars shine Ultimate Energy soon every child may have have a thousand Sons which is to say absolute power which is to [Music] say energy is our true wealth in 30 years we have used more energy than all our forefathers before us we've invested it in many things the American freeway system for example [Music] 75,000 Mi long connecting every city in the nation it is the largest man-made object in the [Music] world our pyramids our Great Wall of China our paron all rolled into one we found a Wilderness rich in wood and coal and oil and we used it to make machines which made more machines which made more until less than 1% of our work is done by human muscle energy has made us well to do freed us from drudgery but can happiness be mass-produced or can it be measured by the gross national [Music] product and why is it the more we buy the lonlier we [Music] get perhaps we are making things just to be making [Music] things [Music] we are taught to [Music] consume taught to equate happiness with [Music] things [Music] taught to measure ourselves by what we [Music] possess yet discarded casually already we are producing things faster than we can use them waste has become our most important [Music] product our proudest possessions our most intricate machines last for the most part less than a single lifetime we have used our energy to build throw away [Music] civilization the real question now is how much more do we want 10 times more a thousand times more [Music] [Music] Our Lives belong to us we can [Music] choose we can [Music] care [Music] there is still time to acquire the things that no one else can give us honesty for [Music] example and a sense of [Music] wonder [Music] respect for ourselves and for all other living [Music] things if any energy is infinite then surely it is the human spirit for with it we can explore the Mysteries that lie in the tiniest leaf and the most distant star soon every child may have a thousand Sons which is to say Ultimate Energy which is to say absolute power which is to say [Music] some weird um water damage in there um and some Bongos yes uh I'm GNA try this let's see what happens I'm gonna overlay the chat try to um new comments will show display here I don't know if there's any comments showing up all right so we're obviously doing a test here um oh there we go pallet cleanser that's what you want William you want a pallet cleanser all right let me see if I can find one uh in the meantime oh all you guys are seeing all this stuff hey this is something we haven't seen in a while um and this is someone who's going to be um helping me at the very beginning of the Thousand uh show thousandth show uh this is my intern Mar enjoy everyone Hi everyone this is a day in the life of an intern for film AR so yeah I show up to work at 12 and my boss hands me a real broken down from some films I had pulled from him a couple days prior films on that reel and these are the films I'm actually back back in I gra one of these gray reels from the respective I just showed you guys which belongs to one of the films that I'm going to be putting on I place a little pressure stopper which makes the film not come off place the other reel back there with facing away from me it's kind of a rule in Arch Stu never have the towards us I put the other pressure thing to make sure that the filmes not come off I connect these with tape so that I can make sure that the film from the other reel is coming to film reel so that it can go back in the can and be Shel took me a little longer than I anticipated but that's basically what that looks like has the connecting there so then it's a SP process and I have to place pressure on the other reel so that it doesn't go too fast and the film doesn't get messed up as you can see I'm looking down at the film watching out for an area where the film becomes I get to the end or the start of the prior film and the end of the other film because that's where we splice them together so you can see I'm slowing it down and that yellow and white is basically what I'm looking for so I disconnect these films and then I grab the film tape it back on to its respective reel and I take off the Reel take off the pressure thing and I put it back in its can because that is the real that I was supposed to be on so yeah I believe this film was comments meteors and asteroids um but yeah I basically do the same thing for the other film put it back on this reel as you can see it's a huge arm workout and I was supposed to stop it sooner but then it started getting a little fast but yeah then I place the pressure thing off and then I grabbed the respective can [Music] the browser is is exploded two fil that I that I been able to real form and I do that before lunch then I eat my [Music] lunch yeah so the browser just stopped responding um it basically said like like nothing I would click would work and uh so obviously I need to get a better browser here so that's something we're going to be playing with tomorrow um I don't know do you guys like seeing your comments um let me know we'll see I'm out of sync I'm not surprised um yes uh everybody have a great rest of your day we're going to figure this stuff out all right take care bye
