e for for for for for for is for so hi I'm SC eler welcome to the a Geeks lunchtime streaming show uh that film comes from the pringer archive that we just watched um and we watched a lot of 16 mimer films but that one had the most incredible herel Gordon Lewis vibe to it beautifully shot color um this kind of suburban delight and utter implicit horror if not explicit horror um excuse me smearing all that Nutella on that woman's face wow that was uh something else um not expected uh definitely uh speaking of food here's uh some animated uh people including an ordinary bird who doesn't like milk what what [Music] the wide let's find out you feel [Music] what's all the racket down there did you hear something mhm up there yeah it's that silly bird he doesn't like anything maybe he likes some milk almost Everyone likes milk you want some milk bird it tastes great milk don't like milk don't need milk kids need milk for bones and teeth kids need milk to grow kids even like milk but me can't stand milk wouldn't walk across the street to drink it milk oh wet and white couldn't wouldn't eat it if it were hand to me on a stick here try this hey that looks good what was that milk huh on a stick ice cream is milk on a stick ice cream comes from milk and without milk there would be no ice cream H well I still don't have to like milk do you like cheese of course I like cheese cheese comes from milk too so does cottage cheese and buttermilk and sour cream and butter all right all right I like milk I mean I like to eat milk but Tomatoes those I really cannot take if there's one thing all kinds never never will you catch me eating tomatoes wouldn't walk across the street to eat a tomato all red and soft and and tomato yeah that's one all right can't stand it never touch it do you like tomato juice yeah but how about tomato soup and spaghetti a spaghetti a tomato No but spaghetti sauce is made from Tomatoes well maybe I don't uh uh you know you really make it hard to hate we by here comes that you know who again let's have some fun with him I can't believe he doesn't like all those things hey bird would you eat a root a root my little chickeny you eat one of these who' ever eat a root Roots grow under the ground have a carrot carrots love them well that carrots a root you just ate a root bird I did carrots are Roots they grow into the ground not all roots are good to eat but carrots are and so are chuts and beets and radishes and scallion H never thought of that how about a leaf Bird yeah bird would you eat a leaf a leaf don't be silly the root may be but a leaf you can't depend on a leaf sit on it you fall out of a tree how about this would you eat this lettuce love it oh tastes great good for you too we you just atat a leaf bird not all leaves are good to eat but lettuce cabbage and spinach they're all leaves next thing you're going to tell me is I like to eat a stem you like celery bird celery of course I like celery my favorite snack eat it all the time what's that got to do with oh no that's right Bird you just ate a stem fruits leaves stem milk peanuts Tomatoes I thought I didn't like them it's hard for a guy not to like them right you are but what do you know I really like to eat [Music] so I've shown other films in that series uh featuring that bird and uh listening to that bird I was like that voice why does that voice sounds familiar familiar and I don't know if any of you listen to either wfm you Ken Friedman's show or a found footage Festival uh where they played a uh answering machine tape where a woman talks about uh basically uh she's call she's talking to a friend and that it's being recorded uh cuz she doesn't know how to turn off the machine and she's talking about uh having diarrhea everywhere and um I feel like that that bird talks like that woman and I was trying to put to edit a piece because uh Ken Freedman had a a contest uh involving that the samples and I was going to introduce this as part of that um with the bird talking about food uh and uh about their uh stomach because there's another film featuring that but I could never get it to work right I had to I'd have to pit shift a little bit and slow it down but oh well anyway there you go that's a weird tangent that may you may or may not know um and is it on YouTube maybe I found footage Festival they show it periodically uh they put together a a video uh Recreation of the U conversation uh it's time for some Jam handy drawing account might see be some animation in this enjoy [Music] surprising how much power they get out of an engine that doesn't look so very big yes about 1,000 horsepower in the four engines together oh no th000 each about 4,000 or so all told well looks like I'm getting curious at the right time you seem to know the answers I'm an engineer Automotive an automobile engineer just the man I need my name is Allan Reynolds is mine I don't want to bore you but there's some things I'd like to ask you well you won't Bore Me by talking about Eng you see I'm a cartoon animation director you mean you draw cartoon comedies for the movies that's right we're doing a cartoon with a bunch of little imps using an automobile to win a war everything is swell except we get in trouble whenever we try to show the engine I'm on my way out to the coast for a vacation so I ought to forget about engines this cartoon stuff sounds interesting I always wondered how they did it well maybe we can Dicker a bit how about spending a day or two at the studio that sounds okay to me we've got a cutaway engine out there that might help you suppose I have a sent over to your place that's fine and when you come over to the studio I'll show you what we [Music] finished I think it's pretty clever the way you fellas combine cartoon figures with something that looks as real as that automobile we made tracing some photographs of a real car for those scenes but when it came to the sequence inside the engine we began to have troubles I think the Cutaway engine will help you there it ought to be here by now well let's go and see these are the animators the boys who make the original drawings we want an army of imps making the engine go now you show us what they should be doing well let's have one of the little fellows on each valve they could be in the special uniform of a meog ised unit a great idea then we make the imp's hats in the shape of valves and then have them jump up and down the action will make them open and close the chamber with their valve hats that sounds good except this engine that belongs in the car you're showing has overhead valves notice that the valves are on top and you have a direct flow of fuel mixture into the combustion chamber oh well then we'll put the up on top and because the fuel comes directly into the head that means greater economy how about having an old Miser Imp in charge of duing out just the right amount a stingy looking fellow with whiskers who just hates the idea of waste that's okay the valve mechanism is specially designed for quiet operation just like everything else in this engine why not have monitor imps walking around with quiet please these signs say we'll make a cartoonist out of you yet oh here's the way the valve imps will look 10 or 12 drawings will be filled in between these two just for one complete movement when they're all drawn the action of your imps on the valves will be perfectly smooth and natural say when we get to the place where the general calls for more speed why don't we turn this thing into an airplane engine look the imps go so fast they're just a blur we fog out the shot and changed to an airplane engine it's a that gag is older than you are fell not bad though remember what I was telling you on the plane Allen airlanes have valve and head engines too because they want the greatest amount of power the last possible ounce they can get and fuel economy at the same time for long range operation as a matter of fact all the engines that hold major speed records are the same valve and head construction we have enough trouble making these drawings look like an automobile engine without asking for more let's get back to this one here this engine has 90 horsepower for plenty of Pep and performance why not have one of the imps in charge of the horses someone who could really handle them what would you think of a Roman Chariot driver you're doing fine we'll make him a big muscular guy with a whip okay and this engine has quite an oiling system four distinct types of oiling in fact to meet the needs of different operating Parts most efficiently and economically so some of the imps could be dressed like a crew of Oilers with little sprays and cans sounds all right to me what's this space for that's the water jacket it runs around all the cylinders to cool them off with the valves in the head you have more room for cooling around the cylinders that's where our Navy comes in imps and submarines maybe even mermaids well what I want to know is how you get the sounds of the engine and voices to go with your pictures that's easy let me show you we use a regular actor whose voice fits the personality of the character we've created in this film the general of the Imp Army does most of the talking put on more speed give it the works the voice is on film now on the soundtrack put on more speed give it to works we make a note of how much film is taken for every syllable that is how many frames or separate pictures There are 16 frames to every foot of movie film so if it takes 12 frames to complete a word or a piece of action the animator knows he has 12 drawings to make he uses his own lip movements as a guide when he draws a character speaking animators don't have to be crazy but it helps this is how the animators check the motion in their drawings before they're photographed we have a timing device which gives our musical director his Tempo we photograph the drawings with a moving beater showing on the edge we check our action and record the music to this Tempo this is the tracing and oping Department in here the drawings that have been checked are traced with ink on transparent Celluloid we call themselves then over here the opers fill in between the lines to give the character body to block out the background these are the backgrounds over here still more drawings in fact in a 10-minute animated cartoon there are 15 to 20,000 separate drawings wow I never realized it took that many the cells are put together like an assembly line and they're photographed one by one over the backgrounds [Music] [Music] h [Music] sh [Music] [Music] [Music] all the cartoons that have wars in them it's crazy um I guess because you know the war effort was going on it was on everybody's mind but um yeah that was a a short that would been shown in a theater and when they talked about 16 ft per second that's actually 35 mm versus 16 um I can't remember what 16 is it's it's a lot shorter per second it's 24 frames which I don't know yeah it's not that long um while we're talking about Jam handy Let's uh watch another one enjoy [Music] [Music] from the Middle Ages down to modern times the magic of chemistry has fascinated mankind and to the boy of today the subject is even more exciting for this is the age of Industrial chemistry with vastly widened application of chemical research in manufacturing it has attained importance undreamed of just a few years ago all around us are the products of modern chemistry window shades draperies Upholstery and furniture all are made of or covered with something that came out of a test tube radio cabinets tabletops and hundreds of other useful articles are made of new Plastics created in the chemists laboratory chemistry takes a hand in the very clothes we wear rayon is a luxurious fabric developed from the cellulose fibers of trees and plants would you believe that the leftover fuzz of cotton seeds is used to make the material which forms the backs of mirrors Combs and brushes yes the lowly cotton seed through a chemical process is turned into something much prettier than Ivory that can be made in all the colors of the rainbow but unlike natural Ivory this material won't crack or discolor with age chemistry is responsible too for the gossamer-like threads of these new stalkings by a miracle of modern science such commonplace things as coal Water and Air have been transformed into threads more elastic than silk spun from filaments even finer than those of a spider's web yet many times as strong raining then it's chemistry to the rescue something that came out of a test tube is going to protect her from that shower here folded into a compact little package is a transparent raincoat rainproof like rubber of a similar material are some of the new umbrellas and parasols combining utility with beauty of design and color now Let It Rain from other chemical processes come refrigerants that keep Foods fresh wrappings that keep things clean insulation and wallboard to improve our buildings nature constantly wears away its own left to themselves materials eventually Decay the pitted side of a rock the rotting wood of a fence post and the rusting odds and ends in the neighborhood junkyard all bear testimony to the destructive forces of air wind and water Cleopatra's Needle the famous Egyptian obelisk in Central Park New York is centuries old over all these years years Nature's forces have attacked the stone but now it has been sprayed with a finish that will preserve the famous stone pillar for centuries to come chemistry has also taken a hand in the preservation of wood in this great laboratory at Madison Wisconsin the United States forest service has conducted more than half a million experiments not only to find new uses for wood but to lengthen its life and now fence posts Telegraph poles any wooden product used Outdoors will do a better job of defying the elements another natural product made better by chemistry is rubber years of research were necessary in order to improve the product and then testing in great machines subjecting it to terrific punishment today rubber product are tougher and stronger and have a longer life longer life has been given the gasoline engine too for years Engineers were puzzled when certain engine parts like piston pins and valve stems became corroded and prematurely worn the engineers called upon the chemists who traced the corrosion to sulfuric acid fumes formed in the engine as a result of their studies this ventilating system Sy was developed to draw clean air through the engine carrying off the harmful fumes and giving our automobiles a longer useful life the prevention of rust is another concern of the industrial chemist here we see what happens when an ordinary nail is left Outdoors for a long period as time goes on the iron returns to its natural form iron oxide just plain rust to you and me studies of the action of rust by means of microscopic photography and many experiments resulted in the development of rust proofing operations for Metals automobile bodies for instance are sprayed with a chemical that helps the metal to resist the elements bodies and fenders are treated so they'll resist the action of moisture then there's the surface finish of the automobile subjected to all kinds of weather to mud water and sand to soot and smoke from City chimneys which cover the surface with a film of gritti scratching particles snow rain or sleet do their best to dull the gloss and even in clear weather there's always the gentle Dew and another enemy of the Finish but chemical research has developed a finish to resist such attacks panels of metal covered with different types of finish are constantly tested in special machines 30 hours in this machine under strong ultraviolet rays is equal to a solid year under the burning rays of a Tropical Sun now the test panels are placed in the weatherometer here they are subjected to another ultraviolet ray treatment under intense heat the machine revolves hour after hour and each test panel gets a bath with every Revolution as well as intense light and heat from the heat of the weatherometer the test panels go into the subfreezing temperature of a special refrigerator then the finish on each panel is examined constant experiment has shown which finishes are the best and the result of years of patient chemical research is the surface finish used on today's most modern cars combining with its protective qualities the radiance of sparkling colors the automobile of today is a thing of beauty yes chemistry has changed the world we live in from Wells deep in the ground from the mine the forest and the farm tum the materials which are being transformed into all manner of new products great things have been done but much more remains to be accomplished some young man perhaps one watching this very picture May develop a startling new formula from a test tube experiment may give the world Finer Things to use to wear to better man's health in this new world of industrial chemistry The Horizon is unlimited be firing at 9 plus 20 Roger flight can you give me some weather and access times in that area please no swells and uh your call sign rescue one the Destroyer is the low 5 4 3 2 one ret fire fire one rocket two this was not an actual gmany Mission nobody left the ground gmany did not abort we have simply edited together an isolated launch with shots of the floit controllers simulating that launch the floit was simulated from an adjacent room in the mission control center Houston and like many other things in the Space Age flight simulation is done by computers the primary and backup crew for gmany 8 will undergo 11 days of such simulated flights before launch day March 16th early in the program experts sit down and analyze the giny 8 flight they know it is a 3-day Mission its primary purposes include rendevu in space with an aena Target vehicle the first docking in space and a 2-hour spacewalk by Pilot David Scott the experts then devis problems that could occur some simple some quite challenging they feed these problems into a computer and sit back and see what happens perhaps with a little Glee at any rate the crew in the simulator and the controller at the console are given the problem both must respond correctly about 90 problems will be run for the gmany 8 mission on the schedule are two days devoted to the aena Target vehicle 4 days devoted to network simulations and 2 days scheduled for running re-entry simulations including emergency re-entries 11 days of problem solving in most probably none of them would turn up during the flight but if one should the crew and the 5,000 people in the ground Network that support these two men would be ready several days before gmany 8 will leave the ground the USS boxer steams toward the primary recovery zone where the mission will normally end it begins training its complement of officers and men in recovery operations instead of launching amphibious strike missions the boxer now launches helicopters for search and retrieval of astronauts on board is the commander of the western Atlantic recovery forces known as task force 14.3 two ships six helicopters and six aircraft are assigned to this task force all five man geminy flights to date have been recovered as planned in the primary Zone still 10 more ships 54 aircraft and 5,000 additional men will be deployed at different stations around the world for Recovery there are nine other planned Landing areas lying within the three major zones of the Eastern Atlantic the mid-pacific and the Western Pacific in the Western Pacific the USS Leonard F Mason a destroyer begins exercises on the retrieval of a boilerplate model of the gmany spacecraft the Mason will cover three Landing areas within Zone 3 it will be backed up by aircraft from okanawa and Japan the chief difference between the primary area where the boxer is stationed and a secondary area such as this is the comprehensiveness of coverage the number of aircraft ships and Recovery Specialists on station in addition a special launch abort area covers the land mass and immediate offshore areas at Cape Kennedy recovery teams go out before the astronauts enter the spacecraft in case of an ejected abort from the Launchpad or shortly after liftoff there could be more extreme contingencies the emergency might be such that a spacecraft could not land in a planned landing area in a dire emergency the command pilot might have to fire the Retro rockets and come right down bare statistics come into play here the world is 70% water and 30% land the odds are strongly weighted toward a water landing aircraft are stationed at 12 points to locate the spacecraft in this emergency any Comm commercial shipping in the area might then be called for assistance to pick up the astronauts freighter Oilers tankers any ship with heavy hoist equipment could also take the spacecraft aboard if the crew comes down over land they would use the ejection seats leave the spacecraft and land by Parachute astronauts have not only a complete survival kit to sustain them but they are trained to live off the land even desert and jungle whether gmany comes down over water or land recovery is planned and coordinated by a NASA team of Specialists they set up the requirements for a mission and work closely with the Department of Defense DOD then commits the necessary ships and aircraft to do the job the dod manager for man spacecraft support directs Worldwide Recovery forces he is in contact with two main elements under his command the Atlantic recovery control center Kennedy and the Pacific recovery Control Center Hawaii the red telephone puts him into direct contact with the highest levels of the Department of Defense for further assistance but all of this the red telephone and the contingency aircraft off pgoo island South Pacific seems remote on the 16th of March the crew is entering their spacecraft for what has every sign of being a normal flight at the same time on launch complex 14 The Atlas aena count is only 25 minutes from liftoff the gmany mission is largely based on a successful orbit of the target vehicle the aena count has no holds right on the nose at 10:00 Eastern Standard Time the atlas launch vehicle ignites [Music] Atlas has three main propulsion engines which ignited liftoff two are Booster engines and one is a sustainer engine the booster engines cut off first some 2 minutes 40 seconds into the flight the sustainer engine then takes over and propels the agena to an altitude of 6541 190 ft two small verer engines on the atlas continue to position the aena properly in the later phases of launch they cut off at 5 minutes 6 seconds after lift on the aena propulsion system then inserts the target vehicle into a circular orbit today the flight plan calls for a circular orbit of 161 nautical miles something close to that would be acceptable the aena propulsion system can be started from the ground and a burn completed to change the orbit but as the final figures come up to the flight Dynamics officer no inflight Burns will be needed aen has hit the plan circular orbit of 161 nautical miles this is a good beginning for any Rendevous flight the news is given the crew by the spacecraft Communicator pilot Scott comes back with just what the doctor ordered the flight director now calls for launch of giny 8 at 11:40 and 59 seconds Eastern Standard Time offshore the launch site recovery forces are fully deployed they now can only wait like the rest of us stage two pre Val coming open 5 [Applause] Seconds T minus 20 seconds [Applause] Mark 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 IGN lift off Roger clock we got a roll program Roger roll good left off eight the liftoff came as flight director hjj had requested 1140 and 59 seconds geminy 8 goes into the clouds high above Cape Kennedy as the spacecraft comes out of the clouds an aerial chase plane picks it up for a close look at what it's like to ride as a spacecraft crew on top of a booster Mark 50 seconds you're looking good eight after 50 seconds the crew releases the restraints which are required for seat ejection gmany 8 was inserted into an orbit of 86 nautical miles by 146 nautical miles very close to the planned values of 86x 145 IAL miles weing Roger staging and we the Fireball the launch site abort is the first contingency that has passed successfully a carefully trained team has been released and returns to other duties with two good orbits Target vehicle and space CRA gmany 8 had a head start on rendevu and docking the Maneuvers for rendevu would be essentially the same as those performed by gmany 6 so fast does the space program accelerate that Rendevous was the primary objective of giny 6 in December but 3 months later it is March and Rendevous almost seems routine everyone is focused more on docking everyone except those who fly the mission then you take things step by by step this is gmany control Houston about 2 minutes ago Neil Armstrong called in over Tanana reev and he was able to confirm at that time that radar lock had been established Roger do you have solid radar lock on with the AGA over we have solid radar lock just give you our current range Roger thank you sounds good we're indicating 178 mil range and elevation of about 4° after radar lock on the crew will circularize their orbit inside that of the target vehicle meantime the ground does not sit still idly waiting for something to happen recovery forces are constantly shifting in response to the orbit of the spacecraft changing station according to a detailed recovery plan the USS Cochran a destroyer in the mid-pacific takes position for a 4-4 recovery that is recovery in the fourth revolution in zone 4 Zone 3 will be the planned Landing zone for the next three revolutions for five 6 and 7 after that gmany 8 will not be over a planned landing area again until the 10th Revolution then it passes over the Eastern Atlantic Zone if an emergency occurs in the e8th or 9th Revolution the spacecraft will land in a contingency Area recovery is supported there by aircraft and available commercial shipping but right now much of this seems academic the crew has other business okay we've got a vis Thea 76 miles Roger understand visual G 76 miles hello Houston this is G and I8 we're station keeping on the AA at about 150 ft where to go partner you done it boy you done it good job boy look at that that's beautiful need the D do I ever I see everything on that TR man that's great man that is really lick a bit of all right okay the first thing we really have to do Platform parall from 650 to 710 and they're giving us the SPC loaded jaw maneuver it looks like at nominal time so they're going to give you that time and I'll check your little status display for you how about those locky guys are just jumping up and down the S10 is on yeah it's okay we are looking at the left or command Pilot's window as the station keeping exercise is where agena begins giny 8 had no difficulty in maneuvering in the vicinity of the agena the onboard film as in past flights was at 6 frames per second and is being projected at four times that speed after station keeping for 35 minutes command pilot Armstrong begins to move in closer to aena Preparing his final docking approach both vehicles are traveling at approximately 17,500 mph we are looking at the Target docking adapter end of the aena the command pilot makes a docking approach by applying very small thrust increases to geminy 8 the maximum velocity difference between the two vehicles at docking will be about 1 foot per second when the command pilot is about 2 ft from the agena he will pause until he gets a go from the rose notot Victor the double check has been completed okay jimmy8 uh we have TM solid you're looking good on the ground go ahead and do we're going to hold off on this SBC thing until he does get dock okay go ahead with your memory compare let's know what you get out of that FL we are [Applause] down that was it two vehicles dock for the first time in space shortly after docking the crew was slightly surprised when Jim lble the spacecraft Communicator checked in with this caution go ahead All Roger a to reading you loud and clear I have some uh information for you uh ready to copy stand by what kind of information is it if you run into trouble and the uh the attitude control system the Eugena goes while just sending command 400 to turn it off and take control with the spacecraft did you uh copy that we understand it was a routine check you punch 4 into the onboard computer this automatically turns off the attitude control system of the agena if the problem is aena control that ends it minutes later gmany 8 passed out of communications range beyond the island of Madagascar the crew Was preparing to begin a series of docking exercises and the Mason was between stations it had left 5-3 and was headed for a 6-3 recovery zone since we were in the fifth Revolution the retr fire experts were routinely updating their retr fire times these are usually planned for six revolutions ahead and stored in the onboard computer it was about this time that Jim LEL almost qualified as the space profit of the year for 7 hours after liftoff and 27 minutes of normal docking an excessive yaw and roll motion occurred the crew punched up 400 but the trouble was not in the agena unable to find an immediate answer Mr Armstrong undocked the roll rate continued to build up reaching about one revolution per second struggling to regain control Mr Armstrong was forced to fire the re-entry thrusters and gradually reasserted control over the spacecraft neither crewman experienced any loss of orientation gmany never approached a critical structural strain once the re-entry thrusters are fired there is the possibility of fuel leakage in orbit leaking a fuel essential for re-entry the flight had been high highly successful through 27 minutes of docking but final action rests squarely on the shoulders of this man the flight director a decision came quickly fuel readings were too low abort that was the first decision others follow where do we recover a stream of facts flow into flight director Hodge's console exact orbital position weather in the Pacific available daylight in recovery zones and the whereabouts of the USS Mason a destroyer which had repetitiously practiced picking up a boilerplate model of gmany in the waters of the Pacific came into its own millions of people suddenly learned that it existed with Germany stabilized in Flight there were several advantages to delaying re-entry for another orbit the retr Fire officer would have an exact reading on retr fire times and the crew could prepare for re-entry and aircraft could be on station at flash down this is the way it would be the NASA coordinator leans over toward the dod console we want to recover in 7-3 the dod manager immediately punches the button which puts him in contact with Pacific recovery control Hawaii Hawaii alerts the captain of the Mason he swings around and heads for 7-3 making 30 knots search aircraft scramble from okanawa they will be over the predicted land point 10 minutes before the spacecraft splashes down as geminy 8 begins its seventh and final Revolution weather is excellent in the splash down area the crew is busy the command pilot has time for only this brief reflection I'd like to argue with them about going home but I don't know how we can that was all geminy 8 sweeps past Ascension Island retr fire will come up over Kano Nigeria air to ground Communications are broken but the Rockets fire right on the nose the crew begins their descent through the atmosphere this is the view they will see for a swimmer in the water is Airman First Class Neil Airman Neil is a veteran of combat rescue work and a good man to have on your side he was quickly followed by two other rescue swimmers it was early afternoon in the Pacific but almost 11:00 at night in the Atlantic where the USS boxer had waited the Mason 3 hours away at Splashdown reached the area at 3:17 p.m. local time crew and spacecraft both in good shape were soon aboard within 72 hours NASA scientists would pin down the source of trouble a short circuit in the wiring ring of the number eight yaw Thruster had caused it to fire erratically the possibility of this failure recurring is slight but a master switch has now been added to the gmany spacecraft the crew can throw this switch and cut off all power to the attitude thrusters in any future [Music] flight once the difficulty was corrected we could take time out to realize that gmany 8 had brought us closer to lunar exploration by demonstrating the first successful dock in space geminy 8 also gave many of us our first look at men like the three young rescue swimmers Airman Neil and Moore and staff sergeant hwit as well as the captain and crew of The Mason men who are there in every flight on remote stations doing their Duty and doing it well it was these men who cited gmany 8 on the parachute and took the crew and spacecraft safely aboard the Mason at that point we knew that the long months of training and the many simulations and the close interplay between NASA and the Department of Defense were sound the mission is ended the control room is empty but it will soon fill up again as simulations begin for the next flight we had achieved our first docking in space we experienced our first orbital abort in both cases geminy 8 came through with flying colors oh boy um I I love the logistics of this and um it's it's dry uh but there's this Authority and this sense of we know what's going on we got it all figured out that I love about it it is self assured and then if something goes wrong well there's we have contingency plans I mean it's really phenomenal and uh so there's for every single Mission there was one of these uh films that was made that was basically they take all the raw material they edit it down into this piece that is then shown potentially on television shown to school shown wherever they can show it to basically say hey this is a report of this Mission this is what we were able to accomplish uh Senators please continue to support our efforts with this um or it's probably even shown to Lockheed um uh shareholders as well because it's like woohoo um anyways big fan big big fan of those those six NASA films uh especially ones that are talking about what they're going to do uh and this is we're going to prep this is how we prepare for it blah blah blah blah this is what we're going to do and then you know the ones that where they do it are pretty good too but so uh one of the things that kind of stuck out with me uh with being an avgeek was the fact that they talked about when they were shooting the footage of the external of them docking it was they said it was six frames a second and the reason they did did that was because they only had so much space dedicated to film and a camera that they didn't want to like burn through going you know 24 frames a second they figured that six frames was good enough um and that's why some footage that you see is is weird and um you know does it seems very erratic and jumpy it's because of that um so there you go uh thanks for tuning in today very much appreciate
