I that is that for where am I what am I doing where am I hi everybody I'm skip Alzheimer welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16mm films and there was that animation of the food chain that was rotating around and that was awesome big fan of that uh what was that 1958 uh the New York Zoological or New York Botanical I'm not sure what their deal is but they've done they've did several films about conservation uh and that were distributed by encyclopedia Botanica and they're just beautifully shot and kind of cool all right uh I got a film on the scanner here see if you can recognize the uh celebrity enjoy har dinner's ready in a minute just a second not in a minute now it's going to get cold let me finish the paragraph my dad called today at the office oh really what do you have today they would like us to visit them on my vacation that's okay with you I make it definite well what' you say exactly oh I told him we would if nothing came up well that sounds pretty definite to me look it's not definite and it isn't done I thought you would like the idea well I'd like it if we could talk about these things first that's all look it's no big deal if you don't want to go we don't go forget it well I'm not making a big deal about it I just thought it might have crossed your mind that maybe I'd like like to see my family and my friends too I have an identity you know what do you mean by that I mean that I'm a human being or have you noticed do you ever listen to anything I say anymore we never talk anymore Gary you either got your head buried in some Science magazine or you're doing that damn dissertation which you'll probably never Finish Well maybe I would get it finished if you give me some encouragement we got any milk here yes in the refrigerator you know you used to take an interest in my work used to encourage me at least my folks back me up and everything I want to do I'm doing this for you Corine well don't do me any favors because I don't need them and I don't need to be snapped at every time I serve you dinner because it's too early or it's too late or it doesn't fit into your own private schedule well damn it Cory that's little enough to ask of anybody it's too little and that's all you ask and that's all you want what do you think I am am a slave or something you never think that I might like to do other things too you never lift a finger around this place my mother never complained and she has 10 times as much work to do as you do well take a good look at me I'm not your mother well I assume then that you don't want to visit my folks on my vacation no I don't it's my vacation too I'm going to go see my family at least where I'm treated like a human being go ahead then see them but I'll be damned if I'm going with you I don't care what the hell you do coren there she is so good to see her again oh darling I'm so glad to have you home so wonderful your father couldn't find a parking spot where you were I thought maybe over here oh he's is always doing that you know all your friends were asking for you look this way Goodbody I can have your baggage stubs dear yeah I do I was just going to get him for you how was the flight honey oh it was great was a fine flight okay I'll go out the front and get the car and meet you in the parking going to be Homestead oh give me the parking ticket you have it no I gave it to you are you sure it has to be here some place oh just a minute I do the same thing I really do my goodness oh here it is thank you oh you let your hair grow long yeah Gary liked it like that it's too bad he couldn't make it everyone would was looking forward to seeing him again oh by the way Carol's called she wants to get together over lunch okay Gary all set let's go okay I'll see you later Stevie aren't you coming mom you boys go on along now I've just got too much to do what's to do the can't wait Everything Brad and claraa are coming by tomorrow I got to get the turkey stuff and the house straightened and besides I can see the new Warehouse anytime come on Mom I hope you we get back the house can wait now don't be silly this is your vacation you go along with your father when was Warehouse finished D oh 6 seven months ago and mom hasn't even been down the seat yet well you know your mother she's interested in her own way Ste Ste it's time to come home Gary it's time for dinner come and wash up but Dad isn't home yet he has to work late tonight listen do you remember the time we tripple D in that CP by the time we got to the dance it was over oh yeah yeah you were with a guy that wanted to be an Undertaker remember him John Maguire that's right I did go out with John Maguire what did happened to him I don't know but you remember Earl Bradley don't you yes how could I ever forget Earl Bradley well well he's as bald as a billiard ball now he has two little daughters they're just adorable Earl Bradley married with kids I can't believe it it's true one of them is Emily's age who's Emily oh Emily's my 2-year-old is she a flirt case in point Uncle Paul and Aunt Celia came over to visit now Aunt Celia was all over her but do you suppose Emily would so much as give her the time of day do you suppose so Corine well she didn't now Uncle Paul compl completely ignored her well I think this really got Emily upset so she's just started dancing around for Uncle Paul but the minute that Aunt Celia would come over to to little Emily touch her put her arm around her she would just stop oh it was the cutest little thing she's growing so fast it just seems like yesterday that she was one year old but she grows a lot the doctor say she's a little bit big for her age but I don't mind she sure walks a lot gets into everything I think we might have another child maybe a boy Bo this time I hope what did you say your husband does Karine uh he's a research chemist in cryobiology what does it mean it's freezing tissues freezing tissues you're kidding I know what kind of tissues Kleenex tissues oh Carol no no really what what is it like cells tissues is human tissues I think I'm not sure act like that c it sounds complicated must take a lot of study PhD huh well he will be if he ever when he finishes his dissertation well all I got to say is don't let him blow up the house okay big fire and everything no I won't thank you how's your work coming along Gary pretty well Dad I don't know whether I told you or not but I expect to finish working on my dissertation by Spring well I had hope that you join me in the business when you finish school I suppose you have to do what you like well it seems to me that this what do you call it uh cryobiology how do you spell it CR y yeah yeah yeah well it just seems to me that it's not very uh practical on the contrary in the long run I expect to I suppose you have to do what you like that's the main thing oh boy what a day you're procrastinating Gary seems silly to stopped at this point you finished all the class work haven't you look I've already got the job I'm doing what I want to do the diploma itself doesn't mean a thing well maybe it doesn't now but it might in the future it really seems a shame to do all that work and then give up yeah I guess so what do you mean yeah I guess so all right I want it well then why don't you do something about it I work all day I come home at night I like to sit around and relax what are you afraid of Gary what do you mean what am I afraid of of I guess you're right you really know me don't you no no darling go and sit and talk with your father this is your vacation I want you to enjoy yourself by the way how's [Music] Karen daddy could we have a talk after dinner tonight H just like we used to just you and me whoops don't come in come on you ready okay dear just 10 more minutes what turn that light out not 10 minutes dear right now Mom we're in the middle of something wait wait a minute see this is nice colen okay honey turn the lights on now look at that Corine you haven't changed a [Music] bit you're still my little girl I'm going to go help Mom now Daddy I'm calling long distance I'll pay you back okay sure honey well by the way what did you want to talk to me about oh nothing it's not important I'll get it Mom hello coren it's me I know I'm at home how's your mother feeling no I mean our home I'll call you back as soon as I get reservations I'm coming home grie yeah bye [Music] oh it's flat how about that yeah but it's only flat on the [Music] bottom [Music] used to have a big big crush on uh Terry gar back in the day man in the 80s uh in the 70s she was in uh Close Encounters uh 80s you know toots see m m mom uh Mr Mom just a bunch of stuff man big big fan all right anyways where are we at uh let's uh learn about wheels and axles wheels and axel and uh what's the best way to learn about that it's with a animated caveman enjoy [Music] he [Music] suppose you wanted to move something heavy you could make your work easier if you used wheels on an axle wheels and axles make it possible for things to roll they reduce friction so you don't have to drag heavy things from place to place you can put or pull them along but wheels and axles can do more than cut down friction you can use them as simple machines you can attach two wheels to the same axle this way so that when one wheel turns the axle the axle turns the other wheel you just apply a force to the edge of one wheel to make everything turn each time the first wheel turns around one once so does the axle and so does the other wheel the second wheel turns with the same amount of force that you apply to the first wheel so this machine transfers a force from one place to another but if the two wheels are different sizes much more happens here's a machine with two differen sized Wheels on the same axle or with two things that act like Wheels this is one wheel of course the second wheel is here the circle made by the pedals as they go around the circle acts like a wheel you apply a force to the pedals through these arms the pedals make the axle turn and the axle makes the large wheel turn when one wheel makes one complete Revolution so does the other wheel this is the distance your foot moves in one revolution the circumference of the small wheel but this the circumference of the large wheel is the distance you roll forward in one revolution much farther than your foot moves if the circumference of this wheel is twice the circumference of this wheel you roll forward twice as far as you move the pedal so this machine multiplies your distance by two if you want wanted to roll forward more distance each time the pedals go around you could do it by making the large wheel larger now the circumference of this wheel is three times the circumference of this wheel and with each Revolution you roll forward three times the distance your feet move but this machine doesn't only multiply your distance it also multiplies your speed speed is distance per unit time the more distance something goes in an amount of time the more speed it has your feet go this far in say 1 second but you roll forward three times as far in the same second so you have to roll forward three times as fast so when this machine increases your distance it also increases your speed the faster you can make a grinding wheel rotate the more grinding you can do so you use a large wheel that is much larger than the small one when you make this wheel turn the outer edge of this one travels much farther and much faster so as you can see the larger one wheel is compared to another on a wheel and axle machine the more that Ma machine can multiply both your distance and your speed but sometimes you're not interested in getting either distance or speed you want to multiply force instead to do that you apply your Force to the larger of the two wheels on the same axle as you do when you pedal a bicycle the pedals go around in a circle this large in order to turn a spr socket that's smaller this large suppose that this wheel is twice the circumference of this wheel then with each Revolution your foot moves twice as far as the sprocket moves but the sprocket moves with twice the force that you apply to the pedal to power the bicycle so you make a trade this machine produces twice as much force as you put into it but it moves that Force only half the distance that you move your feet the smaller this wheel is the greater the trade is you get more Force but less distance and because you get less distance you also get less speed what if the smaller wheel on a wheel and axle machine were even smaller the size of the axle so that the axle itself is really acting as the second wheel then a point on it would move only this distance but with very great force axles acting as wheels are often used to wind up ropes or cables in order to pull things or lift things with some machines you turn an act axle by turning a rather small wheel when you need to apply more Force to an axle however the wheel you turn is usually [Music] larger so with this machine you get a lot of force because you turn a great distance this machine did the opposite with it you could get this Edge to turn a great distance and with a lot of speed does this mean you need to apply a lot of force here yes it does with wheel and axle machines you always trade Force for distance or distance for force and because you always trade one for the other you can't multiply both force and distance at the same time sometimes we want a wheel on one axle to turn a wheel on a different axle one way to do this is to connect them with a belt if the belted wheels are the same size they both turn at the same speed just as two wheels do if they're on the same axle but if they're different sizes one of them turns faster than the other the circumference of this wheel is three times the circumference of this one this is how far the belt moves when the large wheel revolves once but notice what happens to the small wheel with 1/3 the circumference while the belt moves that same distance it revolves three times so the moving belt causes the small wheel to turn three times as fast as the large wheel we measure these speeds differently than before in revolutions per unit time usually revolutions per minute or RPMs this wheel is turning at about 60 revolutions per minute and this one is turning at 3 * 60 or 18 180 revolutions per minute there's a trade here too this wheel turns three times as fast but in order to get it to turn with a certain amount of force you have to apply three times that Force to the other wheel you trade Force to get speed but you don't often find just two wheels belted together usually each wheel is on an axle with another wheel so each one is really part of a separate wheel and axle machine when these two machines are connected by a belt there are really three wheel and axle Machines working together this is one two wheels on the same axle this is one two wheels belted together and this is one two wheels on the same axle the combination of all three produces a lot of speed here a bicycle works exactly the same way first as you saw these two wheels are on the same axle you move the pedals a great distance to apply a great force to this wheel then this wheel is connected by a chain to this wheel the chain works the same way a belt does except the wheels are sprockets with teeth the back sprocket is smaller so it turns faster with more RPMs some bicycles have several different sized rear sprockets that you can shift depending on the force and RPMs you want finally the back sprocket is on the same axle as the back wheel making a wheel and axle machine that works the same way as the grinding wheel again both Wheels turn the same number of revolutions per minute and because this wheel is larger its Edge travels much farther with each Revolution than the edge of this wheel making the bicycle roll forward with a lot of speed sometimes one toothed wheel turns another toothed wheel not with a chain but by interlocking with it these wheels are gears like belted Wheels if the gears are different sizes they can multiply either force or RPMs gears are often used to coordinate machine parts that move at different speeds like the parts of some clocks all of these simple machines two wheels attached to the same axle two wheels connected by a belt or chain and gears are really just ways to get one wheel to turn another so that you can get the best combination of force and distance and speed and you can build or combine wheel and axle machines any way you need to to help you do work [Music] per yeah that uh that bike illustration diagram was not not great you would expect more you'd think somebody would I mean who doesn't know how to draw a bike especially people that are uh illustrators right plus you can go to a Sears catalog and look it up anyhow all right I got another film on the uh scanner behind me and that's what we do this is why I like doing live shows is that I can just go to the back and there was a bunch of films I'm like w I haven't done any films in this stack so um that's what this is going to be this is Young father's Teenage Love enjoy [Music] [Music] every year in the United States more than a million girls 15 to 19 years old get pregnant about half of them give birth that is one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in the world and hard though it may be to believe the rate is going up not down there have been repeated studies of why that should be true but even after all the studies there is no one answer about all we seem able to do is make the best of it and in most communities that has meant trying to help the teenage mother that ignored a group that may need as much support teenage fathers Rebecca soble reports this teenager chick crra became a father at 17 Charles Mitchell he became a father at 16 Scott Brown a father at 17 I wasn't going to give him up I didn't want to at all couldn't see me not being with my child said about him being my kid and you know I didn't want to give him up more and more teenage fathers are fighting to stay close to their children this prenatal class is one of the few new counseling programs available to unwed teenagers both girls and boys up until now most programs were only for teenage mothers because people assumed Young Fathers didn't want their babies I think what we need to keep in mind with teenage fathers is that when they find out that they're an expectant father they're just as scared as a Teenage mother it's just as much of a crisis in their lives and it's harder for males to reach out for help and yet they need the help just as much as teenage mothers do many of these kids are not very realistic uh they're teenagers they're kids uh the future is very Rosy to them they don't necessarily see the problems that they're getting into I think after the baby comes if they you know re remain involved I think that that's when the realities again start to set in um but I think early on they're not very realistic those realities set in in some unexpected places not just the ghettos teenage pregnancies occur in cities suburbs to all kinds of people this neighborhood in Salt Lake City is middle class a community of families and the head of one of these families is a 17-year-old boy it's really hard to have all these responsibilities sometimes I feel like I don't want this anymore I just want to go away and live in the mountains be my own person not have to worry about anything chick crra an all American boy he's a high school senior played on the football team loved it he can't play anymore besides helping with the baby he has to to work full-time now after a full day at school his parents redid the basement of their home so the chick could live there with his girlfriend AJ and their baby son Christopher and the worst part is that I feel like you know I'm making so much money and we're always broke we don't have any money because it's all going to to Christopher and stuff and I feel like I sometimes feel if we hadn't had Christopher just think you know we would we'd have so many things that we want I'd be able to buy a nice car have nice clothes and I like geez why did we have him but I'm I'm glad we did I have no regrets we didn't have sex we made love and we were paid for the consequences you naturally hope that your children will be celibate until marriage how many children are nowadays they're they're surrounded and bombarded with all this stuff it's much harder now for them than it was for me we were really scared we didn't know what to do and then once we started telling people then it wasn't so bad then I got excited about it so when they decided that they were not going to abort and they were not going to give up for adoption we let them make that decision and then respected that decision and tried to help as much as we could could you have stood by AJ and stood by the baby without the support of your family it would have been really hard CU without my family we would have been all alone we would have had absolutely nothing no friends or nothing and the my family really helped a lot oh AJ doesn't believe in abortion she does believe in family maybe because she doesn't have a good relationship with her own her parents moved to Oklahoma when she was 15 she chose to stay in Salt Lake and except for chick whom she met at 14 when she was just a freshman and he a sophomore there's really been no one for support daddy Christopher wants you AJ got pregnant they kept the pregnancy a secret from friends for 3 months as long as they could when your friends found out what happened I lost all of them except for a few they just really wouldn't associate with me anymore every night chick goes to work at a data processing firm it's a tedious job and combined with schoolwork a Relentless schedule the pressure never lets up I'll go to work at 8:00 at night and I'll work till 4:00 I'll come home and I'll sleep till 7:00 then I'll go to school till 12:30 and then from 2:45 till about 7:30 I sleep and then I go to work at 8 again and it starts all over again he has taken on an enormous burden he's missed out a lot you know he can't go out with his friends he has to stay here and take care of the baby he's very willing to help AJ he's very very good with the baby and I love to see them together but the disappointment about his possible career and what we had hoped for him is is hard to take oh I had I had big hopes of going to college you know on a scholarship and I I wanted to become a child psychologist and get my PhD and everything then once that it was a great setback when when we found out and I knew that I wasn't going to be able to go to college right away I had have plans things that I would like to happen you know where I'd like to be in five say 5 years from now but you just have to deal what's happening to you right now are you in love with AJ yeah I am a lot this is North Philadelphia mostly black mostly poor many women in this neighborhood have Tales of love them or leave them especially teenage girls who get pregnant because most teenage fathers don't want the responsibility one boy in this neighborhood Hood when he got his girlfriend pregnant was just 15 years old his name is Charles Mitchell he's 17 now he lives with his mother half brother and sister and dreams of being a dish jockey when Charles was growing up his father was never around at 15 he was smoking pot dropped out of school got his girlfriend pregnant Charles daughter k is 16 months old Charles and his girlfriend broke up during the pregnancy they haven't gotten back together but the day his daughter was born Charles knew he wanted to be a father when I had held my daughter at the hospital that particular day I was like well I can't I can't you know just let her grow up you know and not let her know that I love her and that I want to be with her just as much as her mother does you know he loves the baby he loves her he doesn't want anym he says but he loves that one are you surprised he reacted that way yes because I didn't think boys car he wants to see the baby he wants to do for the baby but I think his attitude towards the mother has changed you know uh they can't get along but he's not letting that stop him from having a relationship with his daughter Charles sees his daughter on weekends but the complexity of being a father is just hitting him now he says teenage fathers have feelings too the problem here is that Charles no longer loves his child's mother but she's still in love with him and when Charles dates other girls she gets angry she's doing a good job as far as raising the child but the only only thing that I object to as far as her having a child is that when she comes over and she brings the baby to see me all right we always get into an argument which always ends up with her leaving the house and her taking the baby with her and that hurts me it hurts me a lot what does squaring number mean times itself itself all right surprisingly having a baby has helped Charles instead of being a high school dropout with no future he straightened himself out is now studying for his high school equivalency exam and has enrolled in one of the few programs that counsels teenage fathers what are you going to multiply by you know he even found a lawyer to help him get visitation rights and he took a part-time job working in a nearby store he doesn't really make a lot on his job you know this is like little small change you know I doubt if it's $30 a week but if he can just get a box of Pampers or give her milk money you know he feels good about that I don't have a lot to give but what I do have to give I feel as though that I can give my all it makes me feel good when I lay down in the bed you know and I've been out and I've worked all day and I've come in and and and and or when I go over there and I see her and she goes down and she wants me to pick her up you know that I'm working for something you know and I I'm trying for some for I have a a purpose what dream do you have for your baby well just like any other parent I wanted to be better than me if it could be made possible I wouldn't wanted to have any children at my age you know definitely if you had it to do all over again would you have a baby no because takes away your Youth too fast you know the little things that you want to do like go out to the parties and and and enjoy yourself you know you can't do anymore all that's gone now that now that the baby's here I can't even look back on it I can only look towards the future the future may mean that more Young Fathers will want to stay close to their children even when they're not sure how close they want to be to their child's mother will they continue forever and ever anybody who says any relationship continues forever and ever is a fool nowadays and we understand that and we're not we're not going for that uh we're not going for for the relationship between the young man and the young woman we are going for the relationship that doesn't ever end you are always that child's parent more teenage fathers are realizing that chick planning to marry AJ this summer has also realized that those you love are worth struggling for hear you know you guys aren't going to make it you're young you're going to get divorced I feel like no we're not you know well at least give us a chance you know i' just like to prove him wrong I've learned a lesson that everything just doesn't come quite so easy in life you're going to have to work for what you want I'm working for it some teenage parents marry and make it but the odds are not good generally speaking teenage parents are three times more likely to separate or divorce than those who marry in their 20s of course the majority of teenage parents never marry in the first [Music] place interesting very very interesting um not as good as uh the uh what is it meia teen father what is the one with roblo and my brain having brain farts today um I blame uh daylight savings time going away just that extra hour is like thrown me way off it is um yeah some team father anyways that one's better because it has uh Dana Plato in it and um Nancy mcken and uh yeah I don't know those news news little blips uh let's see what do we got for you let's watch uh another king r Cartoon we've been on a roll with King r so let's go go go [Music] enjoy tomorrow is Queen Gwen's birthday cook said to King R oh yes said King R I must send her a birthday card and he went to the shop to choose a card [Music] he bought the best card they had then he went home to write inside [Music] it that's not a very special card said cook what do you mean said kin Rollo it was the best they had draw one yourself it will be more special said cook but I can't draw said King R try said cook [Music] King Rollo looked for his paper and [Music] paints he tried to think of something to [Music] draw he looked for a picture to copy draw Queen Gwen on a horse said the magician King R [Music] tried oh it's awful he said and threw it away never mind try again said the [Music] magician so he tried again and again and a [Music] game it's still not very good not as good as the shop one said King R but it's much more special said the magician send [Music] it King R hosted the card then he went home and tied it [Music] up the next day King R was the first to arrive for Queen Gwen's birthday [Music] party queen Gwen was pleased to see [Music] him thank you for your card I really loved it she said it was special said King wall Very Special said Queen Gwen and [Music] different [Music] e softball is one of America's most popular outdoor games for spectators and for players we're going to look into some of the fundamental techniques of pitching catching fielding and batting and we'll see that softball is a team game demanding constant cooperation among the members of the team working especially close together are the pitcher and catcher let's concentrate first on the pitcher alone and here's an expert to demonstrate hurling techniques within the rules of the game the pitcher has room to develop many kinds of pitching curves drops a rise ball and a fast ball most important of these is the ordinary fast ball for the fast ball delivery is made from the tips of two fingers and the thumb with a palm up the pitcher takes his stance both feet touching the plate both hands on the ball he takes one step forward as he brings his pitching arm back then the arm comes swinging through in the pitch watch again the technique for throwing a fast ball see how arm and body follow through all the way curves are delivered by making the ball rotate a Twist to the right gives you an incurve breaking in toward a right-handed batter the opposite twist produces an out curve breaking away from a right-handed patter here's the in curve to deliver a drop ball hold the ball ball like this and deliver it off the fingertips with a forward spin watch the abrupt drop the soft ball pitcher can also deliver a deceptive slow ball which will confuse the batter even in slow motion the slow ball delivery looks almost exactly like the fast ball but look the ball is held between three fingers from the thumb palm of the hand downward thus the ball slides from the fingers going to the batter much more slowly than the fast ball with a similar grip by using the wrist and fingers to give it a back spin the ball may be made to rise or curve upward here's the rise ball here's that slow ball and here's the all important fast ball in a game one of the catcher's most important duties is to size up the batter and signal for the particular pitch that he feels will make the batter strike out or hit into an easy out the catcher's mitt is the target for the pitcher put it right there all right batter up let's see how the boys play the game signals get set for the pitch there it is strike and an easy toss back to the pitcher let's try a rise ball on this batter and make him hit under the ball tossing off his mask the catcher gets under the ball and takes it for the out again an easy snap toss back to the pitcher let's see that again again ball back just behind the ear a snap of the wrist completes the throw this snap throw is accurate and fast for short distances notice that the catcher hands give slightly in receiving the ball teamwork between pitcher and catcher can't always prevent hits there he goes center fielder has his eye on the ball and a speedy return to the infield holds the runner at first and now on the first pitch to the next batter the runner tries to steal second but a fast snap throw to Second and it's two out the catcher's fingers extend upward for a pitch above the waist fingers down for a low pitch now a hard grounder that draws the first baseman off his base as the pitcher covers the base the catcher moves down to back up the play three out while the new team team in the field warms up let's watch some of their techniques infielders frequently use an underhand whip throw like this sometimes an accurate short toss saves time slow motion shows how one smooth continuous motion gets the ball away fast reaching to meet the ball the first baseman keeps his foot on the base whenever possible all right play ball keep your eye on the second baseman he gets in front of that grounder and then a quick whip Nails the runner at first remember in playing grounders move in fast in front of the ball make your throw part of the motion of picking up the ball outfielders Play Bouncing Balls the same way one out and the second batters up it's a hit but the center fielder gets it to hold hold the runner at first here comes the next patter and we're going to see some fast infield teamwork short stop and second baseman cooperate in covering the base and it's a neat double play to end the inning to start the next inning here is a left-handed hitter the outfielders generally play nearer right field for a left-handed hitter a high fly right fielder moves quickly to take it and throw it in to the infield let's watch that play again an outfielder needs a sharp eye to judge flies and get under them then a forward stride and full follow through add power to his throw what chance has the batter against all this defense teamwork here in slow mo motion is good batting form a side stride starts the swing the bat moves parallel to the ground and a full follow through adds power notice too that the batter keeps his eye on the ball until the instant it meets the bat a full hard swing meeting the ball squarely has good chances of becoming a hit but even a powerful long hit can sometimes be caught for the put out and good Fielding ends the inning what's this the new team at bat seems to be plotting something the batter is raring to go the fielders size him up and play to the left which is just what the batter wants because now he's all set to place a hit in right field the next batter will try to advance his teammate to Second here's one way a sacrifice bunt the batter goes out but now there's a runner on second let's take another look at that bu on the pitch the batter pivots to face the pitcher he Taps the top of the ball again Watch how he holds the bat Loosely and lets the ball bounce off the bottom of the bat to fall along the Baseline now let's get back to the game one out remember and a runner on second now is the time for a real Power Hit there it is and it looks like it will score a run with a runner on third the base coach stands by for teamwork a long fly sets the stage and the runner holds his base until the coach signals him to run for home a good slide into Home Plate brings in another safe run in slow slow motion watch how the runner hooks the base with one foot as he slides away from the catcher effort to tag him with the ball and so goes the game no matter who wins softball is a thrilling game that calls for individual skill good teamwork and above all good sportsmanship [Music] someone noticed that in looking at the full frame you could see the optical soundtrack on this side and they noticed that it was an offset like the sound preceded what you were hearing visually uh what you were hearing Ing and Visually seen and that's because the sound head is actually 20 some frames ahead of the optical of the gate so basically to sync it up you have to offset it a certain number of frames 20 is it like 22 21 I can't remember today is not the day where I'm remembering stuff but that's okay um so that's why you saw that uh I figured every once a while it's nice to show like what looks like when you're seeing like most of the frame uh and in what we call over scan uh thanks for
