for hello everybody uh welcome to the AV Geeks lunchtime streaming show I'm skip Alzheimer and uh we watch old 16 mm films and show them to folks like you and forget to mute our computer that we use to check the stream uh that's what we do here uh uh let's see so I don't know some of you there's some cross uh interest here uh some of you that uh follow my show also follow the found footage Festival show and maybe you saw VCR party last night and you saw an explanation for what happened to the um clown Thanksgiving painting that I used to have right there that is now missing it's just you see thumbtacks um I'm not going to talk more about it except that uh you should watch it and you should see that they finally fulfilled their bet that they made almost two years ago it feels like um but it's glorious and uh lot of fun anyhow uh let's see we got a lot of 16 to watch so let's uh let's learn about the physical changes all all about us not inside of us um but all about us we see we see a lot of films that talk about physical changes within us like uh mostly puberty but uh this one's about everything around us enjoy [Music] hi everybody here I am on my way to the lake to get a load of sand in my trust the egg carton and here I come okay but remember I'm going to do the talking you better tell mom you're going she knows while you're riding you can think about what I'm going to talk about matter matter you know things all around us like slides and Kites and sidewalks and benches in rain that helps trees grow and air the kites fly on those are funny things to think about why should anybody want to because those things will help everybody think about the different states of matter St sure think about wood wood is matter in the solid state you see solid oh sure I see and water it's a liquid water is matter in the liquid state and the air that's all around us air is a gas air is matter in the gasier state I can't see it but I can feel it when I wave my hand I can kind of feel it too okay now since you know the three states of matter solid liquid and gas we can talk about some ways matter can change you want to finish squashing this can okay do you know what this shows what that the size or shape of matter can be changed is that what this shows oh be quiet and come on I want to show everybody something else you know what my sister's driffy popsicle shows that the state of matter can change solids can change to liquids and liquids can change to gases and matter can change the other way too that's because matter is made of very small parts called BL no molecules a solid Like a Rock has a shape a solid keeps its shape and size unless something changes it solid things have shapes that's because in a solid the molecules are very close together and don't move around very much something like this when molecules are very close they have a strong attraction for each other you mean they hold on to each other kind of and that means that a solid keeps its shape unless something changes it but molecules in a liquid don't attract each other as much so a liquid takes the shape of whatever it's in liquids take the shape of their container oh in a liquid molecules have more energy than they do in a solid and they go faster too they bump and move around a lot they spread out to the sides of their container and settle to the bottom too and gravity gives the liquid a smooth top surface but even though liquids don't have a certain shape they do take up a certain amount of space a little water will fill a little space and a lot of water will fill a lot of space what's so unusual about that well that isn't the way it is with the gas when you blow into a balloon you're blowing air in air is a gas as soon as you blow any air in molecules of air go everywhere in the balloon well that's the way it is with all gases gases fill up whatever they're in how come let me let go of the balloon first and then I'll show you okay it's because of molecules again molecules in a gas have lots of energy they move in in all directions until they bump into something and then they bounce off that's how they fill the whole container they're in even when you let some gas out of a container the molecules that are left in still fill it you think the balloon will be empty soon won't it be nope it'll still be full of molecules of air and because gas molecules have so much empty space between them we usually can't see gases is that why air is invisible that's why that's very interesting you sure know a lot about me I especially like the part where a solid changes into a liquid oh you little oh you made me forget my egg carton wait till I catch you while my daughters are busy chasing each other I'm going to make a physical change in a piece of wood a change size is a physical change in matter the molecules of the wood aren't changing I'm just sort of chewing some of them out with a saw to separate the board into two pieces molecules in a solid attract each other so it takes energy to saw through wood but it takes even more energy to saw through metal the parts of a metal are attracted to each other even more strongly the kind of energy I'm using to do this work is called mechanical energy I have to use enough energy to overcome the force that holds the metal together and I did the physical change I'm going to cause will make something get bigger instead of smaller and I'll use a different kind of energy to do it than the girl's father did this is something I usually do for my science classes it's a good demonstration see how easily the metal ball falls through the Ring of course that's because the ring is bigger than the ball but I'm going to change that it's not a trick I'll do it simply by using heat energy I'm going to make a physical change in the ball the flame heats the metal ball when the metal is heated what do you think will happen the ball became too large to go through the ring he heat makes metal expand heat makes most substances expand that's another physical change and that's the end of my part of the story for now do you think you can behave I'll try because there's something else I want to show you about how heat makes metal expand and causes a physical change I can't hear you I said I want to tell something else about heat making metal expand what's that sometimes things are built so that they can expand without causing any problems like what kind of things like railroad tracks for instance they're made of long pieces of metal you know do you think pieces are put right up against each other no that's right see there's a space between the rails so they can expand when they get hot that's cool I'm back again and I'm going to show you another kind of physical iCal change that happens to things when they get hot this is a piece of solid lead that I'm heating do you know why the lead is dripping where it's being heated it's dripping because it's melting it's changing to a liquid the lead is changing state from the solid state to the liquid state change of state is another kind of physical change the liquid lead is dropping into a dish but do you think the dish is filling up with liquid lead no the liquid lead is Cooling and changing back to solid lead if you make most solids hot enough they'll turn to liquids if you cool them enough they'll change to solids and if you think that's interesting I've got something else to show you this will help you understand why changes in state take place these things aren't hot they're very cold we call this dry ice but these are really chunks of solid carbon dioxide carbon dioxide is usually a gas but when it's cold enough it's a solid now I'm pouring in some alcohol the alcohol will get very cold much colder than water when it freezes now I'm floating an ice tray in the alcohol and I'm going to pour some water into the ice tray can you guess what's going to happen to the water if you think it's going to freeze you're right that'll take a little time but lucky you you're going to get to see it happen in speed it up motion ready the water's freezing do you know why cold does that to water because as the water cools off its molecules slow down attract each other more and arrange themselves in certain positions a change of state takes place liquid water becomes solid ice when water boils its molecules MO moves so fast it changes to a gas I see it what's that ice cube tray for that'll help me tell you about water in the gasas state water vapor the bottom of the tray is getting wet but where's the water coming from from the water vapor the cold ice cube tray cools the water vapor and changes it to tiny drops of liquid water the air cooled the hot water vapor and it changed state now I talk about another kind of physical change suppose some lemonade I make tastes too sour what should I do about it oh you know put sugar in it oh you're so smart but where's the physical change just wait a minute till I get the sugar now the physical change I'm talking about happens when some solids are mixed with some liquids like when sugar is mixed with Lem Lade let me put in some sugar and we'll see what happens the solid sugar seems to disappear into the liquid it dissolves dissolving is a physical change the molecules of the sugar fit in among the molecules of the lemonade which is mainly water when a solid is dissolved in a liquid we call it a solution is your solution sweet enough I'll see yes it is now you can make a solid come out of a solution by letting the liquid it's in change to a gas you can let the liquid evaporate or heat it to speed up the evaporation and then you get the sugar back some of that's sugar on the inside of the glass physical changes like the one you just saw are used to get the salt out of Salty Sea water and turn it into fresh water that's what I'm doing here I'm boiling sea water with salt dissolved in it the heat changes the liquid water into water vapor but there isn't enough heat to do anything to the Salt that's dissolved in the water the salt stays behind the hot water vapor cools when it goes into the glass tubes and changes state it becomes a liquid water without salt fresh water and when all that water has evaporated what do you think will be left no more solution just salt with the water gone the salt that was dissolved is solid salt again and it doesn't look like salt but it is people can use salt from seawat sea salt is just sea water without the water now I'll use the sand I out at the beach what are you making of the sand I already made them molds for candles you're making candle yep with the help of physical changes of course come on really see I'm shaving off pieces from big chunks of wax remember a change in shape is a physical change oh sure that's right and the next thing I'm going to do is a physical change too it is sure I'm going to melt the shavings when solid wax changes to liquid wax that's a physical change hey I can smell the hot wax sure a little changes into a gas that fills the room that's what you smell and now the liquid wax will take the shape of the mold I made see I see and when the liquid wax cools and it changes to a solid it'll keep with shape like this one did isn't that neat it sure is physical changes are really useful they sure are now I'll review what they are let me do it sure go ahead well physical changes are changes in size or shape or the state of things or when things disolve and make Solutions or come out of solutions right right you're a smart little sister not not so bad for a big sister either haven't I always told you [Music] that so that production music man that shows up in a couple of films that we have uh and public service announcements and I'm sure that tomorrow YouTube will say you cannot monetize this stream because it has this song in it and then I can see what the name of the song is that's the only good side of of this is that I I get to see like what production music uh was made by who and um you know I can uh I don't know what I can do with that information maybe seek it out uh look for the actual record it came off of or the tape that it came off of I don't know there's so many options here uh all right so we're gonna go to the film scanner and uh going to watch a film that is filled with 70s and 80s TV stars mostly 80s TV stars uh including one of my crushes Helen Hunt um I I think this is an after school special but I'm not sure but here we go uh and hopefully uh YouTube won't say hey this is an after school special and this belongs now belongs to AB to uh Disney hopefully we'll see what happens anyways I think I'm having a baby enjoy hey partner this is your town ain't big enough for the two myself and I'm not even sure it's me it'll grow not just my hair maybe I'll let it grow out really really long and get it permed where did you get that thing I think it's still alive e it's going I have to give it back I know I know why you want to let your hair grow cuz you think you look like fi the [Music] cat I think she's gross eer likes I have to leave early tomorrow so give yourself enough time to pack a lunch in the morning Carri bed 10 minutes what have you done to your eyes I saw Peter kiss Phoebe two times it's be nice to have someone go to all the dances have some something to do every Saturday night I think bab's [Music] lucky Lori leave for school yet no where all these come from it's only three careful Ralph scratches a little Ralph yeah see that's Ralph that's Fred and that's you may end up with a lot of babies babies oh no no babies you're going to have to give two of them back Steven please don't encourage her well I'll put up a divider in the pan and that way they'll be separated fine hi hi cute aren't they hi you know they did have babies I want them all to be brown like R well in my experience the tall rabbits always get the girls how make babies they may well how well they make love and then 6 weeks later the baby come how do they make love do haveit kiss Carrie you are one weird kid do you ever see chickens kissing who say chicken lied rabbit Carrie Carrie oh deander all man and the Catwoman let's go the other way okay what for come on are you guys want homecoming I don't know what up the what do you up to her you go if you want to go go hey would you do your hair little cousin leave her alone you're always teasing her hates it he doesn't even know you're alive now come on each of these subjects is part of what we're going to be calling in this class anyway the experience of adult living maybe each of them requires a choice a decision now look at the list tell me which one of those subjects do you think is going to come up a little sooner than the rest any ideas how about sex yeah yeah like like where and when yeah let me try a little experiment I'm going to say the word sex say the first thing that pops into your mind Bruce yeah yeah one Jason you got a better idea come on sex please please okay give me another one come on come on SE problem good Jackie sex love love give me another one pressure pressure Alissa Sin Sin another scared okay Michael the pill another one sex come on movies laoren uh kissing okay give me another one close good okay Scott I don't know come on I don't know come on you know you know confusing confusing it's confusing confusing yeah it is isn't it this we we got here we got the pill we got movies we got scared confusing getting a lot of messages aren't you get them from television get them from advertising get them from your parents you get them from religion get them from your own bodies sorting out those messages takes a lot of thinking a lot of talking but some things you just can't talk about you you just have to feel it got to feel it h 1 million 1 million that number represents the number of teenage girls that be pregnant this year unless you start to think and take responsibility for decisions about your own sexuality instead of just feeling it that number breaks down to about two out of 20 it means two girls in this class could be pregnant this year um those of you who'd like to be pregnant this year would you raise your hand [Music] go ahead did you get your dress for the prom yet I picked it up yesterday is it gorgeous dumb football scholarship hope he doesn't get it why it's for a school in Denver he never said anything about going away I've been working like crazy to keep him up on his assignment I did a whole English essay Denver for sure I don't know he says maybe I thought we'd start college together I was counting on it I'll die if you leave what are you going to do Sunday's his birthday I'm going to throw him a party maybe a cookout or something you want to come yeah would it be okay with Peter listen why don't you make him your double layer chocolate cake okay and then maybe you wouldn't mind giving me a hand with the rest of the food you know maybe help me set it up or do a potato salad or something I see please I'll make it up to you I promise okay [Music] okay that was great cake [Music] really Hey listen have a good time okay he loves the party wish me luck [Music] [Music] little [Music] Peter I'm sorry I didn't mean it that way Peter come back some birthday big party big deal there's always a hook right you know what phbe wants someone to drive her to school take her to her parties she doesn't even care what I want when I'm out on the field she cheers my dad cheers they don't know what it's like your dad must be proud right having a beer with his good buddies but I make one mistake and he's on me I know you know how you feel you do sometimes when you're down when you've lost a game or something you go when you sit alone in the bleachers I see you when lot of times you go and you sit alone and you think about things well I just like that when there are things that I can't tell people you mean you just sit there and you watch me and you didn't say anything cold don't be so shy [Music] okay you're a sweet kid sweet 15 and Never Been Kissed yes I am what I mean by my kids man really been [Music] kissed I love you [Music] I you know your mom's going to kill you if she sees you dress like that you might want me to walk to school with him who Peter oh don't hate me it's it's just we sort of going together going uh-huh fine walk with whoever you want to [Music] forget [Music] itget it talking about love is one thing but sex that's crazy sex happens because you're in love and sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't let me ask you something how does the fact of talking about sex about your concerns about sex about your fears about the fact that you're not ready about pregnancy about contraception how does the fact of talking about those take away love rather than somehow bring you closer it again so planned if you talk about it it's it's like planning to lose your virginity what are we supposed to do call a girl up for a Dayton sake by the way come prepared that may be a hard thing to do but it's a lot harder having a baby to feed change and take care of when you get home like I do and having to decide between buying a box of diapers and some lip gloss because there's never enough money for both it's a real bummer talking about sex is hard it was a lot easier just thinking oh it's never going to happen to me like I did that was a really big mistake last week Mr fenning said something about how two girls in this class could be pregnant this year and I guess I could be counted as one of them so we don't start talking and making some responsible decisions while one of you might be the other hi is this what you wanted it's fine hey great cake [Music] really why didn't you tell me how stupid I looked I [Music] did so how you [Music] doing you want to sit someplace else I don't feel very well I feel really sick wait Mar is here hi hi you know I got kind of worried no phone calls no visits I even a away from the window I'm sick it's been 3 weeks what the doctor say Zano MAA it's going to be really hard catching up in school did he ask about me who him no how's you been with Phoebe same as usual but why do you care anyway because I'm trying to figure out what happened maybe he ignored me because he didn't want to hurt Phoebe he was waiting for the right time and I ran before he could explain explain what you know you never even told me what happened at the party you wouldn't understand you keep saying that it's between Peter and me since when is the conversation with Peter Matthew such a big secret since when is anything such a big secret between you and me do you have a crush on phoe's boyfriend are you still having that stomach crud aren't you eating anything I'm just nervous I have to talk to him I wish you just forget him I can't why because I love him what how can you love somebody you hardly even know you don't understand about love okay well if it makes you act so crazy and get mono I don't want to I didn't have mono excuse me flu Mara I didn't have the flu then what was wrong I think I'm pregnant I want to tell you a 100 times I don't believe I thought you'd hate me if you knew since when do I hate you did I hate you when you knocked out my first front tooth with his sand [Music] shovel are you sure I think I mean it's not just you know I've been getting these cravings for these strange foods what strange foods like banana sandwiches come on we've been eating banana sandwiches all our Liv mayonnaise are you going to tell him I have to he'll know what to do can't just walk up to him and say a thing like that I have to but [Applause] what you sure you take care of it you do [Music] something what happened nothing that was nothing he said that I did it on purpose just to get a hook in him like all the others he said that if I tell anybody he'll get three guys to say they were with me [Music] Don't Panic okay not yet anyway I never meant for it to happen I don't understand how we could have been so close and he doesn't love me Mara I'm scared well maybe we can do something uh Lori [Music] McIntyre try not to be nervous first let's talk about the procedure we'll do a urine pregnancy test today and we should have the results Saturday if we need a double check we'll do a blood test and an exam but let's say that you are pregnant have you thought about what you want to do no I just don't know I guess this pregnancy wasn't planned it it just happened you never talked about contraception with your boyfriend I love somebody and I was afraid to say no is that somebody here with you today well he wasn't afraid to say no was he let's go over what choices you'll have if you're pregnant if you're against abortion under any circumstances you'll continue your pregnancy and make a decision whether you want to keep it or give it up for adoption if you think that abortion is a personal decision made with the help of your doctor we're here to help you talk it over with someone if there isn't anyone I'm here okay yeah okay thanks come on and we'll uh do the test now this would be a lot easier if you could talk what's a big rush I'm going into town next week we could go in together it's been a long time since we've had lunch and talked me too I can't I started a project I have to finish it you look so different since the flu so serious your hair is growing out mom do you like being a woman what kind of a question is that I mean you know taking care of the house and us and stuff I love you there's nothing more important to me than the two of you I love you oh it's moments like these I realize how fast you're growing up you two ever want to talk I'm here I want to talk okay what's mating do I kiss make babies if you kiss a boy do you make babies oh honey I get the picture and you I got to go bye no Carrie you can't get pregnant by kissing Marsha I'm not not you were lucky this time Lori not I think that now you understand the seriousness of sex you know the choices it's up to you I can't believe I know listen uh I wanted to help you I swear I did so did you take care of it it's all right there's nothing for you to worry about I mean how could you expect me to act you made a mistake and I'd be stuck for the rest of my life wait I made a mistake look A girl has to be smart I just didn't know you're a good kid I'm sorry I'll make it up to you how do you expect to do that Peter Well how' you like to go to a show with me Saturday night uhhuh what about Phoebe your hair looks nice this way you know how to take care of yourself sure I don't mind going out with a freshman so it's a date no what do you mean no I lay awake nightes thinking about you you were so great you were something special but it isn't true just where you come off acting so righteous you gave me the big come on remember you weren't so innocent then how about if I just spread it around a little bit you wouldn't like that very much would you I did a really dumb thing but I did it out of love now I know that love is something more if you say one thing to anybody I'll tell them phoe cheats for you that won't be good for your scholarship will it I'm not finished with you yet I'm finished with you let go over her arm Beat It shrimp before I wipe up the ground with you I said that go over arm I'm a black belt if you were a black belt you'd probably wear it around your knees get it is not worth it I didn't know you were a black belt I'm not I don't even take karate thanks I was going [Music] to anytime what's going on out [Music] there [Music] uhoh you didn't they didn't how many six what was this a neighborhood project what are we going to do with six more rabbits no problem Miss McIntyre that's right Steven they're all [Music] [Music] [Applause] yours [Music] like the plot of uh the Fast Times at ront high where uh Jennifer Lee's character potentially is pregnant or actually does get pregnant and then the guy who who uh uh did it uh got her pregnant doesn't share any responsibility uh and then Jennifer and Jason Lee ends up going out with the the nerdy guy is that is that the same plot I was trying to figure out where her appearance in Fast Times at Ridgemont High uh appeared was it before or after I think it was after um interesting thing is that my cousin went to high school with her and they were in drama club together and so they he was in a couple of plays with her and at one point uh he had to lift her up and he said that she was heavy but I'm sure that he was a scrawny high school kid so anyways uh yeah I think uh yeah I think I'm going to call it today um that was fascinating lots of drama Helen Hunt man big fan big fan of her Jennifer Jason Lee too like Jennifer Jason Lee has some amazing films that she worked on um in her adulthood uh some rough characters I think she was in The Machinist she was in senses I've Got Her IMDb brought up and but um yeah she's not afraid to take on some interesting stuff she was in Backdraft yeah whatever uh let's see anniversary party yeah that's pretty interesting uh yeah no it's it's great I I'm I'm a fan she uh we definitely grew up in parallel and uh yeah uh thanks for tuning in today very much appreciate your eyeballs and your comments uh thank you Jeremy for the $2 um one way
