foreign foreign hi everybody I'm skip Alzheimer coming to you from Facebook jail where for some reason something that I showed on uh Friday cause problems and they put me in jail for three days and I'm not even allowed to post that I'm in jail so um Facebook has kind of yeah I uh not a fan of Facebook but it is a place where there's lots of people I communicate with and uh so it's frustrating but what it means is I'm Gonna Change how I'm gonna do streaming I'm probably going to primarily stream through YouTube and then I'm putting together an AV Geeks Channel page on uh the AV Geeks uh thing uh page which actually has comments um so instead of driving you to like uh I'm gonna paste it here um instead of driving you to uh like the black hole mono Plex or something like that we'll go directly to AV Geeks page um anyways uh I hope everybody had a good weekend um uh I don't know if you guys got to see the um nitrate film that we burned uh basically it was something that was very deteriorated and my uh intern found it and was like this is we can't run this through a projector and he threw it away and I was like wait a minute because I looked at a list of what he was throwing out and I was like oh that let's pull that out and so we burned it um so look on on the YouTube page or the AV Geeks page for nitrate and you should see it it's uh not as dramatic as uh Inglorious Bastards but still um fascinating nonetheless um let's see uh let's uh let's watch a film about wrestling um it's like a 1940. enjoy foreign [Music] bringing you the lowdown on the classic art of wrestling just about the nearest thing to a Roman Holiday since Nero fiddled and the customers burn even though wrestling is perhaps one of the oldest of sports I'm not trying to tell you that aging has made it any milder in fact progress in this exercise has reached sets a point that today it's often hard to tell whether it's wrestling or just a good old-fashioned slug Fest the gentleman who was just trying out his knuckles is Carol krauser the Polish Apollo and he weighs 205 pounds his opponent is an Indian chief by name bamboo taboo right now he's far away from the Lord Everglades where his Thrive the Seminoles live the Redskins kind of puny compared to Cairo he only weighs 195. while the ball gets acquainted with the folks down there who pay the cash money I may as well tell you that there are three different and distinct styles of wrestling the Greek or Roman the Oriental and you guessed it the streamlined modern version which is now being demonstrated [Applause] or too bad Chief but you had it coming to you hey chief that ain't wrestling and chairs are getting scarce the ancient sport of wrestling is conducted according to a complicated series of rules but it seems that someone must have thrown the book away so that today the referee can use his own judgment about unusual situations we've got one right now because both boys are in the ring for a change all right fellas now let's see some of those scientific holes foreign [Applause] with his head and again the chief is dizzy if he only had his tamaha Bowser shows some nice headwork what wrestlers call skull practice Big Chief he back way point hands say uh Indian Head hard too he's going to give croser a dose of his own medicine oh looks like the chief didn't see the red light it's almost a concrete trouser pins his shoulders to the vet and another [ __ ] fights the Dust [Applause] ah something new has been added you said it a feminine touch dext cleared for Action our Amazonian bone Benders stalk each other like a couple of Barnyard roosters only these is chickens now dipping firmly into alga's lovely Tresses glamorous hanker sets out the wind-up things in a hurry [Music] [Applause] [Music] a rag a bone and a hank a hair and Hank a hackers to hang on the referees try and unscramble a pair of hard-boiled eggs oh I beg your pardon I mean legs leave it to women to get things all mixed up nice go now got great wrestling for him you have there yes indeedy but now our Cossack co-ed finds herself all tied up in a beautiful hammerlock hey polskin no no below the belt ain't cricket [Music] [Applause] into the ropes and the Panic is on no stolen now this is war to the Finish seems as if this ring isn't big enough [Applause] so what so they take the battle to the Bald Head Road a real old-fashioned hair pulling contest it'll take more than mere man to stop this oh good not in the gentleman's lap you've never even been introduced the gals are giving each other a finger wave and I don't mean a permanent never a dull moment the ref thinks the rough stuff has gone far enough algon hanker queens of the squared Circle both babes back on the mats for the chain I'll go grabbing the Polish Beauty for a slam to the canvas now for the works Hank is pinned with a mat and as she burned up boy she's sizzling what she's thinking about oh okay shouldn't happen to a dog any minute now and there it is congratulations champ well here's something of a variation on the original theme a double bill with both features on the screen at the same time sort of like guerrilla warfare with four gorillas foreign slamming our old friend the engine and now the prince aimer JoJo the Arabian Sheikh who weighs in at a cool 214. one reason he lands so hard they form a daisy chain conga line or something don't ask me why the fourth contestant is one of our boys Bobby Bruns the American Apollo notice what modest labels these kids hang on themselves [Music] well here goes the chief tangling with Milas who calls himself the Greek Adonis nobody ever called a poor old engine any pretty names and may be sore you can't blame him the Sheep comes in but runs reminds him no trespassing military joins the Blitzkrieg but the prince gets a body hold on him and meanwhile the Indian gets all set but guess is wrong it's a sense he never read Dale Carnegie's best seller How to Win Friends and Influence People anyhow reading books is a slight use in this game the fans here want action so the boys pair off again only right away the Indian the prince change Partners the Indian tries that head track routine he learned from krauser and he certainly crooked if he tries it again [Applause] cooperation yeah that's what's needed here Menace no sooner sets the Indian overboard when Bobby barges in socks oladanas in the breadbasket melisole boy it'll take more than fast talk to save you now under any rules Rico Roman catches catch can or what have you you're out it's a fall and you're the Fall Guy okay yeah [Applause] go ahead [Music] is eliminated and this leaves the engine on the left print center then runs three up and two to go who's gonna stay in well the Indian is out of luck whether he knows it or not customers have gotten into the game Bobby real wrestling but the spectators don't owe him enough's enough this engine's so popular the fans just won't let him go [Applause] the Chiefs on the war path event first runs and then the prince [Music] [Music] but as usual he picked the wrong parties just look at him now he feels the way Strangler Lewis must have felt back in 29 when he got licked by Sonnenberg only this poor guy has two Simon Bergs against him it ain't Fair pal but don't blame me you chose this way to make a living if you want to take on a whole Army that's your privilege only don't gripe about it now at least not to me they've got the Indian sign on your Chief you're out [Music] the prince figures he better get after Bruns now a headlock and a few uppercuts the jury will please disregard the knuckle stuff [Music] Bobo red man thinks he should wow [Laughter] I uh yeah it uh um some of these films they you know the ending is clipped because somebody tried to rewind it and it uh destroyed it uh wonderful sound effects yes uh beautiful footage uh commentary doesn't uh doesn't hold up uh nowadays a very uncomfortable commentary uh so I got behind me uh I don't know if you can see from behind the bars there's a scan a film scanner we have a film set up that I got from uh Georgia Public Schools so uh it's called the concession so let's watch it enjoy [Music] thank you come on all my life I've enjoyed being around the stream and lake or swamp any place that there's Wildlife I loved fish and hunt seems like I could always see more along the stream and a lot of other people I like to take people up in the marsh and show them the bird life there is up there especially the nesting Birds some of the birds are tame enough so that we can pick them up I enjoy handling the birds seeing how close I can get through them it's a must life up in the swamp that a lot of people don't realize what life there is in the swamp I had a chance to require this circumcision here so I thought I'd take a chance at it after that foreign foreign thank you thank you foreign [Applause] well this is a family of least bitter they're about ready to leave the next part of them have left the nest here there's just a wall there on the nest and there's two over there should be five in there see they walk around on the grass yeah they're the smallest member of the Heron family a little bit later I'll show you one of their nests got eggs in and we can take the old bird up when we were riding I saw that um yellow flower and it was it came right up from the Lily's pan see how flat they taste and they walk around in there they're all covered with fuzz and down they're starting to get their pen pals yeah without her covering her eggs making some effort to cover them I think she has six eggs in there they cover that I'll cover that Nest to that rotten vegetation and the Sun keeps those eggs just as warm and nice as can be during the day when the sun is shining she doesn't have to hurry back to incubator eggs they're a real remarkable bird when the young are born get strong enough they get on their mother's back and when she swims away they write her right out swim right away with it Birds I don't know that's hurt right there that's by Bill Green right there he is a kind of duck isn't she yes they're a diving dog foreign I did foreign foreign foreign foreign yeah this is kind of crazy um I was just going to show you a quick example of so I have these uh this new filter on OBS that basically allows me to do color correction and it's not the best but that's what it was before and so um there's more of a finesse that I do when I do a kind of a post uh color correction and Grading um in resolve DaVinci Resolve but uh yeah that's not bad not bad at all right um so that seemed to have all the wildlife that was missing from the Happy Hunting Ground film which had a bunch of people walking around in the forest riding a truck a car uh out to the Wilderness out of focus it seemed to be a lot of uh um people with guns but really not a whole lot of uh Wildlife so there you go uh this next film features a celebrity I would say an A-list celebrity enjoy [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] foreign extended Hollywood star David Niven a resounding welcome today as he arrived at an antique balloon to tour the many agencies of the United Fund of Allegheny County and to get a first-hand report of their outstanding services to the people of the community following The Descent of the lighter than aircraft Niven was taken on a grand tour of the city in a caravan of antique automobiles to visit the various agencies of the United Fund of Allegheny County history repeated itself today at least movie making history when Motion Picture star David Niven came to Pittsburgh to reenact his role as Philly's fog in Around the World in 80 Days the celebrated actor coming to town to visit the health welfare and character building agencies of the United Fund of Allegheny County inadar city in a most peculiar manner he descended on the Golden Triangle this morning in an old-fashioned balloon he began a tour of the city at the point he made his way to the downtown streets in a motorcade of antique automobiles foreign star with a tremendous Ovation waving his beaver hat to the thousands of astonished bystanders Niven was impeccably dressed in the formal morning attire as he made his grand entrance a caravan made its first stop on Smithfield Street where David Niven or rather Julius Bond saw the efficient operation of the Red Cross a United Fund agency [Music] then up the boulevard of the Allies to the Salvation Army [Music] and the downtown YMCA for a better picture of the facilities of the UF agencies and so on through many of the agencies throughout Allegheny County the Goodwill Industries at 2801 Liberty Avenue the multiple sclerosis mobile unit Travelers Aid at the Pennsylvania Railroad Station and the Anna B Hillman Center in the Hill district just to name a few [Music] yes phillius Fogg repeated Motion Picture history in Pittsburgh today while history was being made by the United Fund I love you kids at school have to study the three R's Reading Writing arithmetic but we actors have to study the two h's hair and hats now with the right hair combined with the right hat we can play practically anything for instance I could be one of the Three Musketeers with the same hair and a different hat I could be an Austrian ass Duke not removing the hair and changing the Hat taking off the coke and substituting an umbrella for my sword I could be Mr philia's fog of Around the World in 80 Days [Applause] we have precisely three minutes and 32 seconds to present ourselves at the Goodwill Industries arrange for the tickets or Mr Niven there's a little patient of mine who has begged to talk to philius fog it seems she has a question which one is she she's ill and she's still confined to her home but it's not very far away a visit from you would do her a lot of good fine let's go thank you and now children if you will excuse Mr Niven we have another stop to make goodbye kids command here he is ah I have the honor I believe of addressing Catherine oh I know I know you're silliest fog of Around the World in 80 Days did you see it Jeff no I'm reading the book I have it here see oh yes I see it's my favorite story Mr fog I was so afraid something would happen when you were up in that balloon weren't you worried and when you rescued the princess from those awful native I was so scared as a matter of fact I was too ever since the first time I read about your trip I always wondered what happened after you got back to London let me see um I married the princess of course is that all didn't you do anything exciting well it wasn't exactly dull but I see what you mean I became Restless rather quickly and put it soon I was off again on my travels I knew I knew it used to started going around the world again and you never never stopped that's right that's exactly what happened Why'd You Come here you won't have Many Adventures around here but I'm having one I think this is the most exciting adventure of all really here Catherine when you've been around the world as much as I have I've seen wonderful things and I've seen beautiful things for instance I saw things most people only see in pictures in India the great Taj Mahal [Music] a building so rich and beautiful you can't believe it but in the same country where men and women and children dying for the want of something to eat misery and human suffering where an accepted condition of life [Music] is that way in all too many parts of the world ultimately strength elegance and wealth but underneath poverty sickness starvation and worst of all indifference to the despair of people who are suffering under these afflictions in some places on the earth the things you see seem to indicate prosperity and progress and Good Will among men when in fact the people die in the streets to be free of dictatorship and oppression and regimentation [Music] when you travel as much as I have and when you see what happens when people become indifferent to the hopes and the needs of their neighbors then this County of yours this wonderful free American County becomes a magic place in an enchanted land it's like something out of a fairy tale of course when you live here it's rather difficult to look upon it like that I wish you could have been with me when I arrived [Music] I saw your county as the world sees it a living working growing example of what men can accomplish when they live in Freedom when they work together toward common goals where opportunity is open to everyone and where no one is neglected or forgotten the world is well aware of the strength of this country [Music] it's tremendous booming Industries it's vital vigorous Commerce is driving determined Civic spirits but these are only the signs and the symbols of greatness behind them there must be and there is another kind of greatness that lies deep in the nature of the people themselves and today I saw that side of York County and that's what makes this the most exciting adventure of all of course basically the people here are exactly the same as people anywhere else in the world they get sick they have their worries and their troubles and their sorrows even their disasters but when they're faced with a situation where they can no longer go on alone but they really need help the wonderful thing is that helps always there for example I visited the Goodwill Industries the people here many of them once led the happy productive lives then disaster struck in one form or another a stroke diabetes an amputation polio arthritis name it and they know it suddenly the old life ended in a new and terrifyingly unknown one took its place here at Goodwill Industries they meet this new life head on [Music] they learn to overcome their new disabilities and become useful again [Music] it takes money lots of it to provide the kind of equipment and training it takes to turn despair into hope and a new life but here it is [Music] give this candy there are United Fund dollars at work restoring self-respect replacing chaos with courage helping the helpless giving Community Service as well as never-ending research and education not only for multiple sclerosis but for all sorts of crippling and disabling diseases like muscular dystrophy heart cancer cystic fibrosis arthritis and rheumatism on down the list [Music] the United Fund serves people who need help from the Salvation Army or help in a time of need at the Traveler's Aid desk [Music] a place to turn in the face of disaster foreign a visitor and a friend when there are no friends someone to take over when mommies and daddies are not available [Music] a place for boys to grow in responsibility and citizenship during the critical adolescent years a place in the community for supervised organized Recreation which is available to every member of the family so you see Catherine when you find a place where people share their Good Fortune with their neighbors and where they work for and give to a wonderful cause like the United Fund not because they have to but just because they want to you find a place like that well to an old world traveler like me that's the most wonderful adventure of all now I have precisely one minute and 30 seconds to be on my way where are you going from here Mr fog dependent as I am upon the wind I don't really know when you go to those countries where there's no United firm to take care of kids like me you tell them how it is here in our Allegheny County will you it's been even the cars already you're Nevin but you said you were really Philly as [ __ ] and you said oh but Catherine you said goodbye captain you are silliest fog and it was a wonderful Adventure even if it did happen right here at home the most wonderful things always happen at home captain provided you have the faith to make them happen I [Music] [Applause] foreign so the United Fund uh was a more formalized version of United Way uh in an early version so or the community chest so there was a thing called the community chest where uh money would go towards a fund and that fund would then go to various charity organizations in a given Community um and that's what that Monopoly uh references the community chest um and it became there was a blue feather Red Feather organization then it kind of United Fund lots of different little Regional uh names and then it became United Way uh Goodwill of course we know Goodwill um and uh so but to get David Niven to come in and do this was pretty pretty big deal he must have been promoting his film in Pittsburgh and they kind of coordinated and said like hey can you come in for an afternoon and do this thing so there you go um that came from uh as you know it was based in Pittsburgh so uh Oregon archives is based in Pittsburgh and that was part of their collection okay I got another film set up on the uh scanner behind me in case you're wondering if you tuned in late I'm in Facebook Jail uh I'm not allowed to post I think I'll be able to post tomorrow but uh yeah they said three days you can't post anything and it was because of uh something that I posted on the 11th even though they say it was on the 12th um anyways uh can't fight the robot here's an example this is the beginning of the robot uh taking us down slowly one by one but in the meantime let's enjoy uh this wonderful film I think it's from Indiana University and it's called computer graphics for communications enjoy [Music] thank you [Music] foreign work that requires the manual skills of a Craftsman and the imaginative eye of an artist the labor-intensive products of the graphic artist are found in every Communications effort the products may be as simple as a title card or as complex as full color animation but the graphic design process is changing computer technology is making the production of art faster and more flexible than ever before [Music] foreign systems produce art in all commonly used graphic formats [Music] foreign before we take a closer look at computer Graphics systems let's consider how art is traditionally produced we're back from lunch early yeah it's diet time you finish those pie charts you've been working on yeah I finished them this morning and I said some type for a flowchart flowchart just what the world needs another flowchart yeah but you might be interested in this one well this is a flow chart about a computer what I've got to do this afternoon who's got time for computers true [Music] [Music] you can use computers Walt nothing really it's just that I've not been around them that much call it a familiarity problem yeah I don't know much about computers either but I do know I got to get this graphic done got work to do myself [Music] okay nice work Mary thanks yeah did a nice job on Leia I think um it's just one thing you might want to check your spelling before you go home see it bright and early tomorrow Mary but gives kiddo you gonna Camp here all night I'm gonna Camp here all night oh yeah it's a problem oh I got a typo this thing's due first thing in the morning oh wow back to square one square one it is kiddo I'm sorry I can't stick around and help you some people think graphics computers will make artists unnecessary but the truth is the computer is a tool to relieve artists from hours of tedious work it frees them to concentrate on design the artist makes the decisions the computer does the work for the sake of comparison let's see our flowchart constructed again this time by computer and with the client as a participant copy of the slide I was telling you about let's start with the Box once we have the first box it can be duplicated to make the others now let's add some color could we go for a shade of yellow oh okay can we lighten the boxes just slightly sure let's try this great want me to read the text to you sure okay computer information flow the first block is information storage information storage right but the words aren't in the right place oh copy always comes up in the middle now all we have to do is move them you want to actually see the words move now they'll be in place when we make the entry in the computer let's try that title a little larger and in a lighter color now let's see how those changes look that looks good now we need some arrows I've got some arrows stored in our library let me call them up for you we just capture those arrows and slide them into place that looks good now we just need I think we misspelled a word shouldn't computer be spelled with an E you're right let me change that there great now we need is a slide like this and one of a different color center block okay what color would you like I'm not sure shade red I think okay let's run through some there now how do we make slides these two slides will be written on a diskette sent to the camera and you'll have them by tomorrow gee that's great Sue I really appreciate that it's amazing what you were able to do with this rough drawing it only took a few minutes for the artist to construct this visual with the computer's Aid unlike the conventional art process it was a simple matter for the client to spot the spelling error and for the artist to correct it our artist is Sue Adams a graphics computer is simply a sophisticated tool for the artist The Heart of the system is the computer itself each component is tied directly to it information is entered into this system through the keyboard another common input device is the graphics tablet or digitizer it's used to enter drawings into the computer's memory the artist keeps track of what's Happening inside the computer by watching the monitor as you can see it's a lot like a television set on the screen or the visual and a list of words these words are the commands that tell the computer what to do next we use the graphics tablet to select these commands and to change elements on the screen the cross is called the cursor the cursor's movements on the screen show what the hand unit is doing on the graphics tablet now let's make that title even bigger the pink box is called a reference rectangle it lets us preview changes before they take place in this sleeve is a diskette also known as a Bobby disc once inserted into a disk drive a magnetic head scans the diskette to record and retrieve information data can also be stored on a hard disk which is left in the computer once stored it can easily be recalled to use in another slide or sent to an output device this may not look like a camera but this output device does make high resolution 35 millimeter slides it can also produce color transparencies in sizes up to 8 by 10 inches as well as high quality camera ready art another device that is well suited to the computer is a plotter which can produce multi-color overhead transparencies you've seen the system now let's construct a bar graph to see how it works I'll use a keyboard to input most of my information let's start with a standard rectangular plotting area next I'll introduce the vertical scale let's let this deal range from 0 to 100. I'll also introduce a horizontal scale and give the computers some instructions about color and format let's label the bars January February March and April as you can see the text is rather small but I can increase the size our routine here is to capture the groups of information tell the computer we want them to grow and let the cursor Trace out the change in size let's see the change okay that looks better let's add a title and some grid marks [Applause] the next step is to indicate the size of the bars and there it is in just a few minutes we constructed a graph and this is the high resolution image which is recorded on film okay graphs pretty simple stuff now let's try something more elaborate how about a slide on vacationing in Mexico [Applause] we're starting with a world map from our symbols file on diskette we take the world map and zoom in on North and South America so we can isolate Mexico that should give us a good starting point let's add some text to the slide fun in Mexico now capture the text increase its size and position it in the lower left corner of the screen maybe the words could be larger there let's try that the timestyle we now have on the screen is crawl Clarendon if I want another font style such as helvetica medium all I have to do is enter through the computer [Applause] [Applause] it's just as easy to change the color of the text let's use one of the computer's greens and drop it into the words on this system we can control the Hue chroma and value to create over 8 million colors now since this slide is about Mexico let's put Mexico in the Limelight now I'll capture Mexico and enlarge it on the left and we'll let the computer fill in the space between the two maps for a special Zoom effect the last step is to color the map there it's finished now it's ready to be sent to the camera and this is the finished product here are some other examples of computer-generated art [Music] you may wonder how these electronic Marvels can help you if you're in a small graphic shop it may not be practical to purchase your own Graphics computer instead you may want to have your art prepared at a production Center that specializes in computer art in larger art departments it may be cost effective to lease or purchase your own system however since the camera is the most expensive component of the system it can be used on a time sharing basis in such cases in-house design stations are linked by telephone lines to a service center where the art is photographed [Music] where the volume of art is great enough the purchase of a camera may be justified having a camera permits the entire production process to occur on-site computers offer many advantages to the graphic artist the biggest of which is productivity by taking over the tedious and repetitive production tasks the computer frees the artist to concentrate on effective design and that makes the computer a tool for expanding creativity in communication [Music] 82 wow that's crazy um the premise of that I don't know I think I wanted more electronic music to kind of make it more interesting uh because uh business Graphics I mean that certainly drove the industry but oh oh boy um but uh yeah certainly seen this back in the day I would have been like oh I want one of those oh um so thanks for tuning in today I appreciate your eyeballs and your comments um Kevin thanks for sharing links on Facebook where I am in jail uh we'll be back again tomorrow and hopefully I'll be out of jail uh but in the meantime if you like what you saw you'd like to support us hit the thumbs up button or the like button or the Subscribe button even if in the past you've done the thumbs up or the like in the past do it again uh you can go to our uh 24 7 Channel which is on avgeeks.com um and you can go to ko-fi.com AV Geeks and bias coffee or you can go to patreon.com abgeeks and uh give us a little tip um I already have a great rest of your Monday and we'll see you again tomorrow take care bye
