for is that that some high Jinks um on the set of um nature of light uh really fascinating um to see this raw outtake footage and uh this is part of this cornet project where we're scanning a bunch of stuff um anyways I'm skip Alzheimer welcome to the a Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mm films and um so let's get off uh get off on a good foot with some um Japanese paper animation of a story we all know [Music] enjoy life in the country is quiet and simple and often the food that the farmers work hard to get from their fields is simple too but many a hardworking farmer would never trade his simple life for anything else here is a story that tells why once there was a country mouse he was a gay Carefree Mouse who enjoyed the country life he enjoyed swinging on branches he enjoyed walking on fences one day the country mouse saw the crow who carried the mail anything for [Music] me a postcard from the city said the crow the country mouse ran into his house to read it the postcard was from his friend in the city the card said dear country mouse come visit me in the city the food is wonderful your friend city [Music] mouse that evening at dinner the country mouse told his mother and little sister I'm going to the city no more of this country food for me his mother said country food may be simple but it is good Country Life is peaceful said his sister I've made up my mind said the country [Music] mouse the next day the country Mouse's little sister gathered acorns for her mother as a country mouse dropped them from high in the oak [Music] tree he sat down to rest and looked across the fields he could see the Railroad Station a train was coming in now it was time for him to go to the [Music] city coming down Look Out Below here you are now I'm off to the wonderful City [Music] goodbye the locomotive slowly began to move there was a puff of steam and the train pulled out of the station the country mouse jumped aboard and was on his way to the [Music] city he settled down in the baggage car the train passed through a tunnel what an exciting ride on and on raced the train nearer and nearer to the city they crossed a Broad River and then just ahead past the high tension wires lay the city the big city it was night when the train slowed and stopped from the darkened car the country mouse jumped off the city was big and bright and dazzling electric trains rushed by carrying many [Music] people it's dangerous here i' better get [Music] down the country mouse landed on a moving car that carried him through the City Lights swirled and blinked about [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] him the car stopped and the mouse fell into the street whiz whiz went the cars I better get away from here thought the country mouse at last he was safe [Music] again after walking for a long time the country mouse found his way to the sewer pipe which led to the place where his City friend lived he walked in he took a few steps and then called hello anybody home lights turned [Music] on and then he saw his City friend come up the ladder said the city mass I've been expecting you I'll treat you to the best banquet you've ever had said the city mouse look on a kitchen table was the most elegant and delicious food The Country Mouse had ever seen there was nothing like it in the country come down said the city mouse and let's see they walked down a [Music] pipe I have this sort of food every day said the city mouse and there's all you can eat here A whole bowl of biscuits the country mouse jumped in the city mouse laughed the country mouse couldn't believe it all this delicious food and he didn't have to work for any of it is it always like this in the city all this food and no work yes said the city mouse you just have to be careful just then a door opened and the cook came in run shouted the city mouse and they hid don't move don't make a sound I don't like this said the country mouse then the cook left the Kitchen come on said the city mouse it's safe to eat again did I see a mouse run shouted the city mouse but I haven't eaten yet I'll get you the cook waved his rolling pin and smash watch out run run he tumbled from the table and tried to hide oh good food isn't worth all this and what's that a cat help he's coming [Music] help the cat chased the country mouse over and under the pipes climb up here called the city mouse up the pipe the country mouse ran with the Cat close behind [Applause] you just in time the city mouse closed the gate oh what an experience panted the country mouse well said the city mouse that evening what do you think of the city the food is good but the dangers are terrible I'm going back to my simple Country Life early the next morning when the city was still the country country mouse boarded a train that would take him back [Music] home goodbye said the city [Music] mouse and so the train slowly moved away away from the city mouse away from the city back to the peaceful country life went the country mouse back to his mother in sister who were waiting for him his sister saw him welcome back he was glad to be home I'll never leave [Music] again pephone or a VI phone that was pretty awesome um yeah so cornet did use I think the the name of the company is gaken it's a Japanese animation uh film company so we have run across some original footage from uh the original film that was appropriated uh by cornet so it's kind of cool all right so behind me I've got uh a film scanner set up and um this one has a really great leader lady in that it's a leader couple so keep an eye out for that uh this is skyscrapers and slums Brazil enjoy e stop that um because uh BBC is notorious um for bringing down content um which is frustrating but there you go that's the way they are um anyways so as a this this fil next film makes sense anyways this is uh an answer to the country mouse and city mouse you have all these mice and no cats this is hi cat enjoy definitely went at some point it was like okay I think I know where this is going as soon as he started setting up the picnic I was like all right I know where where things are going here so anyways uh let's watch some films about reptiles enjoy some reptiles lived on land some in the water and some flew then many of the principal Ty of reptils died out only their fossil skeletons and Footprints remain some of the Lush jungles and swamps in which the dinosaurs left their Footprints have become the rock floors of barren desert lands kinds of reptiles remain on Earth lizards Turtles the Tara the crocodilians and the snakes have certain characteristics in common they have well-developed tongues which some can extend and retract their skin is either naked or covered with scales they breathe through lungs are coldblooded and their body temperature varies according to their environment fertilization is internal and most reptils reproduce through eggs there are about 2,000 species of modern lizards most of them are harmless this hila monster is the only poisonous lizard in the world but there are many useful and beautiful lizards they live in water trees and on the ground this ground dwelling fence lizard is a member of the Iguana family in South and Central America the Flesh and eggs of various iguanas are considered Delicacies the skin of the monitor is used in making useful leather articles this chameleon is from Africa true chameleons do not inhabit North America its eyes rotate independently the chameleon can see in two directions at once the chameleon's long elastic tongue is sticky on the end it serves the chamele well in Catching insects which are the main diet of many lizards the chameleon can change color this helps to hide it from its enemies the changing of color depends both on its environment and its emotional condition other types of lizards that can change color like this American chameleon are named after the true chameleon the second reptile order contains the largest living reptils the crocodilians and includes the American alligator which may grow to a length of 15 F feet and to a weight of more than a ton crocodilians spend some time on land but their real home is the water where they are strong and fast swimmers their powerful tails used to propel them sometimes serve as a means of Defense on land too the alligator can move speedily crocodilians eat turtles fish and other animal matter found in or near the water the female alligator prepares a nest of decaying vegetation in which to lay her eggs she guards The Nest until the young have hatched this crocodile looks like an alligator but crocodiles are lighter in color and have a more pointed snout powerful jaws help the crocodile to defend itself and to catch and devour its prey only rarely have they been known to attack man but not so rare as man's attack on the crocodilians their Skins are an important source of leather used in many manufactured products another reptilian order the tuataras has but one living species called the Tuatara found only in New Zealand it is an important link between prehistoric and living reptiles the fourth reptilian order is that of the konia or Turtles there are over 200 100 species they range in size from this tiny young snapping turtle about an inch and an ounce big to the huge galapagus: painted turtle lives in or near freshh water while a box turtle lives on land a turtle shell is part of its skeleton and in most land turtles it is high and arched this type of shell helps protect the turtle's head and legs from enemies some are even hinged underneath for complete closing of the box turtles also live in the sea here their feet are flippers adapted for swimming this green turtle cannot hide inside its shell because its shell is flat streamlined for swimming soft shell turtles have a leathery outer shell enclosing an inner bony shell turtles are widely used as food by humans and the shells of some turtles like this Hawk Bill are used in making useful objects but probably misunderstood of the reptiles are the serpents or snakes no order of animals is so widely disliked with such little ground for dislike of about 2,000 species of snakes less than onethird are poisonous and the bite of only a few is fatal to man snakes live in water climb trees dig holes in the ground and a few are known to launch themselves from trees snakes have no limbs a snake moves by means of the large scales on its bottom side called ventral plates as the snake moves from side to side these scales catch on to even minute projections and help to move the snake but the real power for movement is the muscular action of the loops bracing against the ground which pushes the snake along most snakes shed their skin as they grow the bright new skin shows the real beauty of the snakes markings snakes have no ears and no eyelids but the eye has a transparent cover which is shed each time the skin is shed the snake has a slender Fork tongue but no vocal cords so the only sounds they make are by hissing vibrating their tails or rattles or making a rasping sound with rough scales some snakes catch their prey by injecting poison into their victims with fangs or teeth the cobra's venom attacks the nervous system the American black snake died quickly after being struck the only member of the Cobra family found in North America is the pretty Cor snake it too poisons its victims it feeds mainly on other snakes one other family of snakes in North America catches prey by poisoning the pit vipers they include the rattlesnakes the Copperheads the moccasins and the relatives of the fair delant of the tropics the name pit viper comes from the pit or depression on on the head the pit contains a sense organ which detects heat the heads of all pit vipers look somewhat alike the diamond back of the Southern United States is the biggest of the American rattlesnakes they sometimes grow over 7 ft long they will strike in self-defense when frightened or provoked when they strike Large Hollow fangs pierce the victim's flesh and introduce the deadly venom it destroys the red blood cor pusles weak the walls of arteries and attacks the nervous system here we see the Venom being forced out by human hand but most rattlesnakes seem to avoid danger if possible if they cannot flee they rattle their tails giving the Intruder warning to beware the Venom of poisonous snakes is mainly a food Gathering device but is used in defense against enemies from which they cannot Escape this hogn snake is harmless but is a good bluffer when approached it puffs up spreads its neck and Strikes at its enemies if this fails to frighten the enemy away it will turn over on this Mojave rattlesnake cringes before an enemy the aggressive King Snake feeds on many snakes including the pit vipers to whose poison it is immune the king snake and others like this corn snake constrict their prey causing death by Suffocation before swallowing it whole the lower jaw bones of a snake are united in such a way as to permit the snake to open its mouth unusually wide and to swallow its food whole because of its elastic Jaws the snake can swallow victims that are bigger around than itself snakes benefit Man by helping to control insect and rodent pests they also provide skin oil Venom and other items useful to man some snakes reproduce by means of eggs the eggs are laid in leaves Hollow logs or other protective places and receive no care from the mother after being laid the young snakes hatch in about six to 8 weeks and must care for themselves as soon as they leave the egg the water snakes garter snakes pit vipers and others produce live young no your reptils they are an important part of the world in which you live most of them are your friends helping to control insect and rodent pests providing you with food leather and medical products fear of the harmless ones is a needless fear a burden to be discarded the few poisonous ones should be recognized and avoided but no reptile should be needlessly slaughtered each has a part in the inter balance that exists in [Music] nature so it says it right there reptils reptils among with Puma uh rudaba ulation Montana membran um vegetable abdomen protein apparatus um and then of course uh zamin uh this is how you pronounce things Uranus um eel um yeah that's that's how we pronounce things wow today was unexpectedly awesome um I'm sorry I didn't get to show that uh thing about Brazil but it sounded to be depressing and I didn't want
