Notes: This film begins with a shot of Apollo 15 as it takes off from the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida to begin a 12-day round trip voyage to the moon. Narration identifies the spacecraft’s United States Air Force personnel: Mission Commander David R. Scott and the 7th man to walk on the moon, Lunar Module “Falcon” Pilot James B. Irwin and the 8th man to walk on the moon, and Command Module “Endeavor” Pilot Alfred M. Worden. The film shows original NASA footage during which the Apollo crew members communicate with ground control in Houston, collect 171 pounds of rock and soil samples on three explorations totaling 67 hours, troubleshoot the lunar rover when it gets stuck on the unloading platform, conduct an experiment in which a falcon’s feather and a hammer fall at the same speed, and launch a satellite to study radiation and magnetic forces. Upon the flight’s return to Earth, one of the astronauts’ three parachutes fail, and they splash three hundred miles west of Hawaii where they are met by the recovery ship USS Okinawa. The film's conclusion displays moon sample analysis in Houston, which includes the Genesis Rock that Apollo 15 retrieved.
