Description: Produced for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, this government film chronicles Apollo 15, the fourth manned mission to land on the Moon. Launched from John F. Kennedy Space Center on July 26, 1971, Apollo 15 was the first of the “J missions,” which involved a three-day stay on the surface of the Moon and multiple moonwalks. This film provides an unbelievable firsthand look of the mission, with the majority of the footage coming from cameras fixed to the Apollo spacecraft and its associated equipment. After landing on the Moon on July 30, Commander David Scott and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin take the Lunar Roving Vehicle for a spin. Upon re-docking with the Command and Service Module, the crew releases a subsatellite into lunar orbit. Their mission complete, the astronauts return to Earth on August 7.
