Description: Investigates the ways some animals prepare for winter by either changing, hibernating, or migrating. Identifies the elk, rabbit, and raccoon as animals in which changes take place and the toad and woodchuck as animals that hibernate. Observes that some insects lay eggs which will hatch in spring, others spin cocoons for winter survival and spring metamorphosis, and still others, like the monarch butterfly, migrate. Discusses also the migration of geese, ducks, and songbirds.
