AN UNSEEN ENEMY.

A drunken servant and her accomplice rob a safe belonging to two orphaned girls. The victims are held at gunpoint while their brother races to the rescue. Editing is intense in this Biograph film. Some eighty shots speed between Lillian Gish's first awareness of danger and her final rescue. However, before the action begins, Griffith and cameraman, Billy Bitzer create an arresting high-angle shot of Robert Harron and Dorothy, as the young lovers, in a field of corn.

A physician's death orphans his two adolescent daughters. Their older brother is able to convert some of the doctor's small estate to cash. The slatternly housekeeper, aware of the money, enlists a criminal acquaintance to help crack the safe. The resourceful girls use the telephone to call their brother who has returned to town. He gets the message and organizes a rescue party.
