Description: Examines prescription drug abuse through interviews with doctors and patients, concentrating on the creation of "legal" addicts by physicians who are quick to prescribe tranquilizers for symptoms of stress. Looks at the expensive promotional techniques used by drug companies to encourage doctors to prescribe mood altering drugs for a variety of non-existent diseases, such as the empty nest syndrome, car-itis, and picky eater-itis. Interviews doctors who state that physicians need to take more time with their patients and use community service groups to help counsel patients as alternatives to prescribing tranquilizers. Includes interviews with a current tranquilizer user, a former user, and a user who had been simultaneously addicted to drugs and alcohol.
