On October 18, 1973, New York taxi-fleet owner Robert Scull auctioned off fifty pieces from his collection of contemporary art at the Parke Bernet galleries. Pop art scorned by the public a short while back brought unprecedented prices creating havoc in the art world and raising serious questions about the relationship of art and business.
