Description:
Moreland-Latchford (:31); a Canadian educational film production company, presents an educational film "Alcohol Family Living Program" about the use and abuse of alcohol. This film was directed by Anthony Perris and details the dangers of alcohol consumption specifically in relation to pressures at work while following the life of a salesmen at a watch company. This vintage alcohol awareness film opens with the main character, Chuck entering the Rado building (:22). Chuck is played by Steve Pernie, a notable American actor who stared in films such as ‘Class of 1984’ and ‘The Brain’ in the 1980’s. Rado is Swiss luxury watchmaker brand. Chuck’s secretary informs him of a message to meet with his boss in the library (:40). The pair discuss his use of company designated expense money (:56) as he had spent $30 (equivalent to about $200 today) on alcohol at a recent lunch meeting. Chuck validates the need for alcohol as a way to loosen up his clients (1:28). In his office, Chuck places a call for his wife (2:43) about an upcoming dinner with his parents. She confronts him over his regular drinking habit (3:14). Chuck and a coworker head for midday drinks at a restaurant called Harry's (3:49). Chuck justifies his liquor consumption (4:28). Chuck’s wife takes a call from his mother (5:04). His wife discusses pressures of her own work with a coworker (5:52). Chuck blames an excess of spending between him and his wife on food and her shopping as the bartender delivers another round (6:14). Chuck returns to work visibly inebriated (6:52). A man named Willie returns to the office and invites Chuck out for dinner and drinks on the town (7:58). Chuck’s wife wakes him in the morning in a rage (8:12). Chuck defends his alcohol consumption on work pressures again (8:54). The pair argue over monetary issues (10:41). The film concludes as the credit screen appears (11:32).

foreign [Music] Chuck what there's a message for you he's waiting in the library a chuck we're um we're pretty generous and pretty lenient when it comes to expense money and if a guy's getting results we don't uh question the amounts too much but there's been a lot of business sold in this station for a lot less than the 30 bucks you turned in for lunch with Sam Johnson last Friday you know Sam Johnson he likes to drink yeah I know Sam Johnson I sold that account when I first joined the station as an advertising salesman just like you I also know that he doesn't drink much unless he's got someone to drink with him so I bought him a few drinks to loosen them up you sure he's the one who needed loosening up Chuck you're a good salesman or you will be when you learn how to handle a few situations your expense accounts are running almost 50 percent more than any man on our staff you're spending too much chuck but now don't get me wrong expect our salesmen to entertain our customers just keep an eye on the liquor bills okay um some of our clients don't need much encouragement what do you think I'm encouraging them let's just leave it there for now Chuck foreign what's on your way we live sure I like the way we live what's wrong with it what more do you want I want us to be like we were when we were first married or even like we were up until a year ago I need this apartment we're still busy paying for everything we never have time to see any of our friends and you was so tired all the time never talk to each other I thought you understood when I got this promotion look honey that station's paying me twice as much as it used to and expect me to live like a junior executive not like an office boy and in the meantime what they're paying still isn't enough is it we're getting by and we're getting by before you got the promotion only now we're getting by on a bigger scale things aren't that bad look all right so I goofed up last night I don't blame you for being sore I guess I've been trying so hard to be a good Junior executive that I've been kind of a lousy husband is it worth it [Music] foreign
