Complete Record: Air Force Now monthly films for training and public relations. Two full segments and a public service announcement: 1. “Never Again - The Air Defense of Hawaii” The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 was both devastating and humiliating to the United States. We were caught unprepared. Now, however, our readiness posture in Hawaii is an entirely different story, thanks in large part to the Hawaiian Air National Guard and the 326th Air Division at Wheeler Air Force Base. This month Air Force Now takes a look at the men and women of the 326th accomplish their very important mission - the air defense of Hawaii. (B&W archival footage of Pearl Harbor bombing aftermath during WWII, present day commentary including WWII veterans, variety of present day footage of operations and military aircraft at Wheeler Air Force Base) 2. “Vote” You have an excellent opportunity this year to help determine the future direction of this country. Do your part - vote please. (short public service announcement (PSA)) 3. “Against the Odds - The Tom Peter Story” Major Tom Peter’s story is one of personal tragedy and triumph. After being diagnosed as having leukemia, he was given as little as six months to live. His only hope was a bone marrow transplantation, and the only suitable donor was the youngest of his daughters (NOTE: film commentary says youngest sister was donor). After the struggle to save his own life, he fought to resume his flying career. Through sheer determination and inspiring inner strength, Major Peter overcame tragedy and triumphantly returned to the cockpit. (Commentary from Major Peter, family, and military colleagues. Shots of hospital, doctors, needles, blood, March Air Force Base, military aircraft, refueling, newspaper articles on Major Peter)
