Description: While women have served in the United States Air Force since 1948, the branch did not accept women recruits on an equal basis with men recruits until 1976. This news footage for San Antonio’s KMOL-TV (now WOAI-TV), produced the following year, captures women recruits completing Basic Military Training (BMT) at Lackland Air Force Base. Reporter Paul Schaefer joins the enrollees as they run the confidence course. All Air Force BMT is conducted at the Texas base, known as the “Gateway to the Air Force.”
