Description: A survey of the facts and myths concerning AIDS. Animation explains how the immune system works and how the AIDS virus destroys the body's ability to fight disease. The film describes the virus' erratic progress, sometimes dormant for years, sometimes advancing rapidly to death, sometimes not developing into AIDS. Symptoms and related diseases are shown. Transmission of the disease by semen, vaginal fluid, contaminated I.V. needles, from infected parents to their unborn babies and (rarely now) through blood transfusions, is discussed. The film charts the early appearance of AIDS in the U.S. among homosexuals and I.V. users, and its spread into the general population. High-risk behavior is detailed, and preventive measures, including abstinence and the use of condoms, are explained.
