Against the Odds: The Artists of the Harlem Renaissance

Celebrates the work of Afro-American artists produced during the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920's and 1930's. Speaks with Newark Museum curator Gary Reynolds and co-curator Beryl Wright to describe the works now included in their museum from this genre. Interviews and profiles some of the artists still living and presents a variety of paintings, sculptures, lithographs, etc. Speaks with noted authorities to explain some of the impetus behind the creation of the art and the general mood of the society at the time. Describes the William E. Harmon Foundation, which was a significant force in providing opportunities for black artists to have their works seen.
