Description: Presented by the National Dairy Council, this color educational film "Admirals in the Making" is about the opportunities offered to the young men who attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. This is circa 1956. Opening: (no opening credits) U.S. Navy men march. Clock tower at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Halls on campus. A chapel. Navy men carry rifles. Monuments and paintings. Cadets doing chemistry. Teachers teaching the cadets. Cadets in class (:07-2:01). On Air sign, U.S. Naval Academy Educational Television Station sign. A teacher in front of a radar machine. Gun turrets with an instructor. Battleships at sea fire weapons in war-games. Planes take off and land. An officer has binoculars. Cadets have headphones on and assist on the ship, one has a CB radio to his mouth. The ship's guns are fired. Two cadets wear life vests. Military Officer salutes a group of cadets and looks them over to make sure their appearance's are up to standard (2:02-4:05). Newcomers carry their luggage as they arrive at Annapolis. Cadets stand holding rifles. A cadet comes down the stairs, makes a turn and continues onward. A cadet is asked questions by his superiors and looks very nervous. In a mess hall, the lower clansmen stand at the table before being allowed to sit with upper clansmen. No slouching at the table. The younger student opens a ketchup bottle (4:06-6:20). Officers look over a menu with the cooks. Slabs of meat and produce are brought in. Potatoes. Batter is mixed. Milk is dispensed. A cadet drinks milk, the image is presented with a kaleidoscope effect. A trained person looks over a slab of meat. Meat is cooked. Eggs are removed in a pail. Bread is cooked. African American men work in the kitchen with the food (6:21-8:14). Salads are prepared. Pies are topped with cream. A cadet scoops ice cream and pours strawberries onto it. A complete breakfast: pancakes, coffee, bread, oranges, milk and more. Lunch and dinner is featured. The cadets eat sitting straight up. Boxing, fencing, baseball, sailing, track & field, golfing. Navy football game, players rush onto the field. Cadets wave their hats as they salute the team. Cadets march (8:15-10:06). A dance with couples, balloons fall. Girls and boys slow dance. June week, a woman kisses a cadet. Graduation. The graduating class stands up and tosses their hats into the air. Girlfriends and families congratulate the graduating men. Officers salute. A senior officer speaks with a new officer. U.S. Navy battleships at sea. Planes in formation. A Navy flag flies (10:07-12:21). End credits (12:22-12:34).
