Description: Doctor-patient interviews show types of schizophrenic disturbances. One paranoid patient undergoes electro-convulsive therapy.(Critical) This program discusses a mental hospital. A series of patient-therapist sessions and therapist evaluations are portrayed. A negative random depiction of the patients focuses on debilities, rather than treatment or integration of the individuals into community or home settings. The emphasis is predominantly on labeling and deficiencies rather than remediation and relative strengths of the individual. Therapeutic techniques, daily routines, and the physical plant are not clearly illustrated and no case histories are provided. Electroconvulsive therapy is covered in detail, and as a rule drug therapy is advocated. The concepts discussed are ten to twenty years old, and there is no logical development or underlying didactic rationale. There is no discussion of achieving treatment by other than medical means. Although the technical quality is generally good, occasionally the audio is inadequate. This program is not recommended for use
