so so so so hello everybody it is march today in spite of what it might say on the description of this stream i tried to change it and for some reason it didn't take and i'm not exactly sure why but uh i'm skip alzheimer welcome to av geeks lunchtime streaming show yeah we just watched a castle film castle of course was a film publisher who would take footage that they would license from other places or that they shot themselves and they would edit it and distribute it for home markets uh so you could buy castle films at your local camera store where you also bought your projector and your camera and your your uh raw uh film and they did 16 millimeter eight millimeter in super eight uh and they would often times take cartoons and uh reduce them down from 35 into 16 and eight uh and some features and they would do digest and this would be one of their special content things so they would do news reels and then they would do these sports related things so that's what that is um yeah we watch old 16 that's what we do here uh so behind me i have a telecini and um the next film that we have set up on the telecity is on the way to school and we're getting into that territory territory where we are beginning to think about the upcoming toe tapping tournament where we will have um we will vote on the top four new songs that we've seen since the last tournament in the spring of last year and then those four songs will uh will take on uh the four songs or jingles that found footage festival is going to do so this this next film has a song maybe it's a toe tapping candidate i don't see look at what you see [Music] when you learn to look [Music] have you ever thought about all the things there are to see on your way to school [Music] me [Music] there is a tree that is always dropping leaves on my sidewalk there are big leaves with very nice shapes [Music] [Laughter] [Music] have you ever looked at all the shapes of leaves there are [Music] there's a big pole almost in front of my house there are lots of other pools that i can see from my street they are all different sizes and are made of things like wood metal even cement if it's long and straight i guess you could say it's a pole sometimes trees are like poles and sometimes they are not [Music] did you ever look at all the kinds of tree trunks there are [Music] the things you see on the way to school can be big or small i'm bigger than the fire hydrant but the fire hydrant is bigger than the b what other things can you see that are bigger than me and what things can you say that are smaller than me [Music] some things on the way to school are very smooth to touch [Music] like metal fences [Music] but things like bricks are very rough [Music] what other things are smooth and rough [Music] have you ever seen how many red things there are on your way to school [Music] that's not red that's better [Music] have you ever noticed all the round things there are [Music] [Laughter] [Music] look at the world look it all around you on your way to school there are all kinds of things to look at but if you take too much time looking you might be late for school [Music] what is that what is this what is there what did you miss look at your world look it all around you look at all this to see look at what you see what do you see when you learn to look when you learn to look [Music] all right so you know that could be a candidate i saw some people liked it and some people really didn't like it so maybe that's a really good sign uh we'll revisit uh some of the candidates i've been trying to take notes of whenever you say hey this is a good toe tapping song so hopefully we'll be able to recapture some of that magic uh all right um we love when adolescent kids freak out and do damage to property and this one is a old cornet film called respect for property enjoy [Music] hmm [Music] what is property why do we respect it [Music] why should we respect a cheap gadget or a collection of trifles or even something of real value why because these things belong to people and the owners have the right to say how valuable their property is and who can use it and how as this story unfolds what i can find out tommy and his gang are responsible for this what do you do with them will they have to go to jail isn't that what they deserve or destroying other people's property well st what about fixing our furniture it's all right to punish those guys but how does it fix the cheers they broke yeah what i'm supposed to do about that how are we gonna get new furniture i know how you feel boys when you do it to someone else it's just funny but when it happens to you that's different oh we never done anything like this no how would you fellows like to meet me at the storeroom at school say this afternoon sometime hello what for you gonna help us fix up this stuff i'd like to show you something i get off duty at four i can meet you there about quarter past uh mr schmidt will let you in all right okay come on boy well there it is oh boy mr schmidt i sure didn't know you had all this junk down here what are you guys doing here i guess you two would better wait out in the hall take it easy johnny i think mr schmidt has got something to show you hey johnny hey look at all this worn out stuff worn out stuff did you say one art stuff sure oh these desks and chairs are not worn out they're broken down destroyed by smart aleck kids now look at this vest over there it cost a lot of money and it would still be in use if the boys in school had treated it as though it belonged to them look at it all cut up hey that looks like mild what's that mike hey what's this now you boys didn't have anything to do with that did you well not any more than anybody else all of the fellas well anyway a lot of them do the same thing sure we all do it we've got new desks now and it didn't hurt anyone did it didn't hurt anyone just because these deaths are public property it didn't hurt anyone do you know where the school board found the money to buy new deaths sir well i'll tell you they saved money by not getting any new machinery for the woodshop and they didn't buy as many library books as they wanted to and they let the old muddy baseball diamond go another year instead of fixing it up they saved money on the things you want because they needed the money to buy new desks and to fix up broken windows and to paint walls someone wrote on and what's more they had to raise the taxes again yeah that's right boy was my dad sore when he got his taxes thanks for showing us all of this thanks mr schmidt so what about our broken i'll see you boys later on over at your clubhouse okay bye oh the desk is all right now yeah but we'll never be able to fix the chairs well i suppose we've got it coming to us we've done our share of spoiling stuff so i guess it's our turn to get hurt say i wonder what will happen to tommy and walter now hiya fellas getting things picked up well pretty much see i thought you'd like to know tommy and walter admitted they were guilty well i guess it doesn't matter much here let me take this stuff outside for you you won't need it anymore go on in tommy hey are those for us well you see we didn't need them anymore we thought you could use them hey pretty swell chairs huh no thanks say i've got some glue i bet i could fix your heart hey would you say this is all right how about it jenny all forgiven well that's the story we respect the property of others for the same reason we want others to respect our property because that's the only way we can live together and enjoy the things we own from a clubhouse to a real house property represents a lot of planning and hard work is it right to destroy the work that other people have done property is something of value to the owner so isn't destruction just about the same as stealing public property belongs to many owners but don't many owners have the same rights as a few the law respects and protects property private and public but the law stands for you and it's up to you to help think about it how can you show your respect for other people's property and what can you do to encourage others to show real respect for property [Music] good old coronet uh that's a beautiful example of a kodachrome print uh and not every coronet film was released that way you could as a school had an option of color print or a much cheaper black and white print and then eventually in the 60s and 70s they stopped using kodachrome and they started using ectochrome or eastman color and the colors faded somebody asked in the comments about why are some of the films reddish it's because those dyes the cyan in particular have begun to fade and red just makes everything red um so there's that um i got another film set up on the telecini whenever possible i love showing stuff on the telecity because that's usually new stuff that i haven't seen before or we haven't transferred before and so um it's a way for us to really get into that 30 000 plus films that we have and put eyeballs on it so this next one is one and more than one maybe there's a song i don't know i have no idea let's enjoy this is a film about one and more than one there are many ways to make more than one from one most of the time we can simply add an s leg legs sometimes we add e s box boxes when a word ends in y we change the y to i and add e s candy candies sometimes we have to change the word but [Music] feet and other times to make more than one we do not have to change the word at all fish fish one fish two fish many fish [Music] paula and the gee bees have been invited to a birthday party today they are going to pick out presents for their friend paula and the gbs like to shop for came off the telephony all right oops anyways um lots of things about rules today um so while we're at it let's learn about wrestling by the rules enjoy [Applause] wrestling is one of the fastest growing interscholastic and intercollegiate sports because of its increasing popularity the competition is constantly improving officiating plays a very important part in maintaining competition which is exciting fair and safe recognizing the importance of this phase of athletics the national federation presents this film so that all competitors will be wrestling by the rules cliff fagan directed the planning and was assisted by tom frederick the technical staff consisted of the four high school members of the wrestling rules committee [Music] demonstrations were by wrestlers from stoughton wisconsin high school coached by vern peter marvin hess is the rules committee chairman the 10-foot circle at the center of the wrestling area contains markings which aid the official the red and green areas are used when starting or resuming the match in the neutral position the two one-inch lines serve as guides for the defensive wrestler in the starting position the referee is responsible for examining the mat and markings prior to the meet [Music] you must also make certain his assistants the timer and scorers understand their duties and responsibilities at this time he may review signals and procedures prior to a dual meet the referee calls the team captains to the center of the map following introductions he will decide by the toss of a coin which team has the choice of positions at the start of the second period in each weight class [Music] this choice will be recorded by the scorer the match starts with the wrestlers on their designated areas referee is opposite to and facing the scorer's bench wrestling begins on his signal and he must continuously move to observe all action when from a neutral position a contestant brings his opponent to the mat and gains control he is awarded two points two points head down this is true even though one wrestler may be outside the boundary two points take down but when this wrestler lifts his opponent and steps out of bounds the match is stopped out of bounds up control is the important factor in determining whether a takedown has been earned this counter to the fireman's carry illustrates a situation in which neither wrestler has control no points are awarded when a wrestler brings his opponent to the map and gains control he is earned to take down even though his head is not entirely free in the proper starting position the defensive wrestler shall be on the mat with his hands ahead of the center one inch line his knees behind the other one inch line the knee spread no further apart than the width of his shoulders and his lower legs parallel with the toes turned neither in nor out excessively the offensive wrestler shall be at his side with one or both knees on the mat and his head along the midline of his opponent's back the supporting points must be to the outside of the near leg when only one knee is down the other may extend over the lower leg provided there is no contact the referee faces the bench while observing the starting position when the wrestlers are stationary and the timer ready ready [Music] he will signal the match to start a reversal is awarded the defensive wrestler if he comes from underneath and gains control of his opponent two points reverses an escape occurs when the defensive man gains a neutral position while within the wrestling area one point the referee must be in position to observe edge of but points are not awarded here since the wrestlers were out of bounds before control was lost no change you're still down a reversal is awarded when the defensive man gains control of his opponent two points reversal control is the determining factor as here when a shoulder roll is used when the defensive man grasps the lower leg he has control two points reversal and may even gain a predicament or near fall points are awarded for a reversal even though one wrestler goes completely out of bounds two points reversal a predicament occurs when a wrestler has control of his opponent in a pinning situation provided one shoulder is on the mat and the other at 45 degrees or less two points predicament or when both shoulders were stopped within four inches of the mat from the neutral position additional points may be scored after there is control two points take down with one shoulder touching and the other held within one inch for one full second or both shoulders in contact with the mat for one second a near fall is earned three points near fall predicament points may also be earned following a reversal two points reversal as in this situation predicament a predicament may occur while the head and one shoulder are over the out-of-bounds area if other conditions are met however here the wrestlers are out of bounds out of bounds no change still down when the offensive wrestler maintains control of his opponent he may score predicament points if the requirements are met two points predicament conditions for a predicament may be met more than once during the time a wrestler is in a pinning situation such as the false cradle however only two points are awarded and these after the situation is ending [Music] two points predicament when any part of both shoulders are held in contact with the mat for two seconds it is a fall and the match is ended the referee is expected to anticipate situations which may result in the fall and must be in a position to observe carefully that the conditions are met fall a wrestler may be pinned while in the offensive position the referee must anticipate such an unusual situation fall a stalemate occurs whenever the contestants are interlocked in other than a pinning situation and neither can improve his position for instance in this situation neither wrestler can improve his position and after 15 seconds the referee shall declare a stalemate stalemate back to center no change it is a stalemate when the offensive wrestler hooks his opponent's arm which is blocked by his opponent grasping his own wrist when it is apparent that neither wrestler can improve a stalemate is declared stalemate back to center no change this common method of blocking a switch also results in a stalemate situation if this procedure is followed continuously the offensive wrestler may be guilty of stalling stalemate back to the center no change each contestant must wrestle aggressively regardless of his position when the figure 4 body scissors is used to break an opponent down it is then incumbent upon the offensive wrestler to press his advantage in attempting to pin his opponent it is obvious here that the offensive man is using the figure 4 as a hold down on top one point it is also stalling when in a neutral position a wrestler refuses to make contact 1.6 here the defensive man after gaining an escape refuses to wrestle after having been warned the wrestler in the red tights backs out of the circle to avoid contact and is penalized one point the defensive wrestler is equally responsible for aggressive wrestling covering up or flattening out with no attempt to escape can only be interpreted as stalling warning stalling on the bottom the defensive wrestler is warned without stopping the match and if he continues to stall for another five seconds [Music] one point penalty he is penalized without stopping the match unnecessary roughness is penalized without warning it includes striking or any intentional act endangering life or limb unnecessary roughness another example occurs when the offensive man is unnecessarily rough while controlling his opponent unnecessary roughness one point body slams are illegal that's a slam one point a contestant who lifts his opponent from the mat is responsible for his safe return the same is true of a soup play illegal one point it is illegal to lock the hands in a double arm bar from the neutral position this is true whether the wrestlers are on their feet or on the mat illegal hole one point the full nelson is also an illegal hold this is true whenever the offensive man has both his hands on his opponent's head and can exert pressure illegal hole one point the full nelson is not to be confused with the three-quarter nelson shown here [Music] fall the hammer lock is illegal when the lower arm is forced to an angle of less than 90 degrees with the upper arm the referee should break the hole before excessive pressure is exerted the illegal hole one point the arm hook hold and is an effective way of turning an opponent in certain situations it becomes potentially dangerous as the offensive man's hand moves toward the shoulders and pressure is exerted in a diagonal direction what's a chicken wing [Music] it is a chicken wing and an illegal hold when the pressure is exerted parallel to the long axis of the body as here [Music] illegal hole one point the bending or twisting of any limb beyond the normal limits of its movement is illegal this is a twisting knee lock illegal hole one point the double wrist lock is a potentially dangerous but legal hole two points reversal here the pressure was applied perpendicular to the long axis of the body and turning the opponent legally however in this case because of the parallel cranking or lifting force the hold is illegal illegal one point the split scissors or banana split another potentially dangerous hold may be used legally when pressure is applied toward the defensive wrestler's head it is immediately illegal when the defensive man's legs are forced apart excessively here illegal crossface becomes a chokehold potentially dangerous no change because the defensive wrestler caused the hole to be illegal there is no penalty if the defensive man stands while in a great vine it is potentially dangerous because of the danger of a fallback or a drill in applying the guillotine the hole becomes potentially dangerous when the arm is forced beyond its normal limits of movement as is illustrated potentially dangerous the hole is broken and the match restarted with no penalty the figure four scissors on the head is a legal hold and an effective way of pinning an opponent however when the straight scissors is applied to the head it is an illegal hold and must be broken immediately and the offender penalized illegal hold one point a fall terminates any match if there is no fall during the match wrestling continues until the timer indicates the match is ended [Music] [Applause] go to your spot at the end of the match the referee will direct the wrestlers to the red and green areas on the 10-foot circle check with the scorer's table then indicate the winner by raising his hand the conduct of matches during tournaments vary somewhat from the procedure used in dual meets in tournaments the competitors are given leg bands for proper identification he should be easily secured and provide ready recognition when a tournament match ends in a tie [Applause] the match score is removed since only the points scored in the overtime will count following a one minute rest the referee shall toss a disc to determine the starting positions for the overtime a jury consisting of two judges and a referee shall closely observe the action during the overtime periods and in the case of a tie shall vote for the winner each judge shall be given an overtime card to aid him in determining which wrestler has the superior ability sincere attempts to secure takedowns falls reversals and escapes are used in judging wrestlers abilities [Applause] [Music] when an overtime ends in a tie as it does here the wrestlers will be sent to their respective areas on the 10-foot circle and the referee and judges will record their decisions without consultation the referee will then gather the cards from the judges take them to the scorers table and determine the victor then indicate the winner in the usual manner [Music] officials make many decisions during the course of a match whether it be in dual or tournament competition these competitors are of equal weights comparable ability and have trained long and hard both deserve unbiased and objective officiating the role of the referee is to make certain that each is given a fair opportunity within the rules to exhibit the best of his talents [Applause] this is wrestling by the rules [Music] [Applause] [Music] i can check that gear in a minute engine's running well i told them not to touch anything all right i guess i wasn't thinking you weren't thinking you mean you'll work on engines and machinery and not think of your own personal safety here shake hands with danger shake hands with danger [Music] i was young and feisty never did things by the book just let me get my tool box and i'll take myself a look i climbed up on a dozier with my mechanics pride said if you can keep it running friend while i poke around inside shake hands with danger meet a guy you want to know i used to laugh at safety now they call me three finger joe although i learned a lesson i forgot it soon enough the knicks and burns and scratches showed the young ones i was tough till another morning i was grinding on some steel my other hand got careless and fed my skin into the wheel shake hands with danger step right up and say hello grinding wheels and metal are what made me feel three-fingered [Music] i've seen mechanics burning and i've seen them take a fall just to save themselves a minute i've seen them and lose it all i've watched them caught in trouble seen them take a chance and lose they get careless for a moment and spend a lifetime
