so hello everybody i'm skip alzheimer and welcome to the av gates lunchtime streaming show where the webcam has now made me a little brown um since i have a window that's like right behind me um that it changes and then i have the webcam set to some sort of auto setting and then i have to augment it a little bit so who knows what i'm going to look like i mean i look at screenshots on on youtube and every day is like a different one today i'm orange tomorrow i'm blue you know i'm greenish today i'm brown um but i hope that does that negatively impact you watching old 16 millimeter films with me um because you know every day is a different color it's a wide rainbow of skip uh maybe all right uh so like i said we watch old 16 millimeter films here at avgeeks and i got a film set up on the telecini um that has a song that you can sing along to um do i have it set up yeah uh this is a song encouraging you to have a snack enjoy the most important person in the whole wise world is you and you hardly even know you the most important person in the whole wide world is you come on and show you let's find out more about the things you feel and do cause you're the most important person in the world to you boy am i tired what you've been doing tumblr you know running playing having fun have you run out of energy have i ever licking class what's [Music] what's that gonna do [Music] [Music] say do you guys have the time i don't know how to tell time me neither from the position of the sun i think it's the middle of the morning why do you want to know harry well my tummy's growling and i know that means i'm hungry but it's too soon after breakfast and too long till lunch look at me clap you said it fumble he got the idea what i do [Music] some cold sliced meat or some crisp crunchy greens my favorite cuisine quickity quack that's a snack it's a well no matter of fact that you sometimes get hungry between breakfast and lunch crumbly crunch [Music] it's no use never never will i be a good cook no i got a cookbook but whoever heard of a bird who could read what's your problem little bird what you trying to do good gracious can't you see are you learning how to cook trying trying to learn but i'm failing miserably why do you have to learn to cook birds so i won't be dependent on other people making me tasty morsels to eat when i'm hungry look at the clock indeed and what spray tail do you mean quickity quack [Music] a tomato a grapefruit a plum or a peach grab a handful of what you can reach hop on the beach [Music] crunch snacks are terrific [Music] uh so some of you think that that's a good uh toe tapping tournament song uh and i'll add it to the list i have a database that i of my films and i've been um every time you guys say oh this would be really good i've been adding it to that list um and if you don't know what the total the toe tapping tournament is this is where i compete against found footage festival guys uh in probably april um where they get their best jingles i get my best jingles and it's all based on the fans kind of deciding which jingle is the best and then we compete and then we trounce them with of course shake hands with danger um that's now been retired so now it's going to be a real competition i mean i knew shake hands with danger was going to crush them especially having the person who wrote the song as the judge so anyways they're they're hungry over there at found footage festival so we have to really uh go through and be more diligent uh anyways back to some film this is an odd film um i don't know where i got this i got maybe this was an ebay fine but my feeling is and i don't have any information that tells me this for sure but i have a feeling that this was shown on twa flights uh that they would put together these kind of packaged back when they used to show movies um they would show these kind of condensed feature films where they would cut out the cursing and the nudity and the extreme violence they would also have maybe television they would also have other selected things and this is a selected thing and this is where twa i think late 70s early 80s they put this together and i think they got you know they basically got sponsors to mention these things it's a their version of a news newsreel but it's all sponsor stuff so here's twa world on parade and has a really is known as vlcc very large crude carrier and she's all of that 906 feet long a beam of 173 feet 15 cargo tanks that will hold 1 million 100 000 barrels of alaska crude loading the big tanker through four hydraulically operated loading arms is one of the critical operations between the wellhead and the refinery the crude oil fed by gravity is taken aboard at the rate of more than a hundred thousand barrels an hour [Music] when fully loaded the north slope is taken out to sea by the harbor pilot radar scanners and depth finders confirm the skills of both the pilot and the captain [Music] once in the open waters the pilot's job is done the captain sets course in the outbound traffic lane south to san francisco the ship will take over four days to reach california from alaska building to a speed of 15.5 knots or 165 000 deadweight tons will be skillfully sailed by a sophisticated combination of gyroscopic autopilot orbiting space satellite navigation systems onboard computers and a seaworthy crew of 27. [Music] during the voyage fire and safety drill are important parts of the ship safety program the north slope carries two specially built fully enclosed and equipped lifeboats each boat is large enough to accommodate the entire crew even aboard a vessel like the north slope monotony can be a problem to help prevent it the crew's day room provides videotaped movies as well as a well-stocked library and plenty of good food [Music] from alaska to california over 2 000 miles to san francisco the big tanker slows to take on the port pilot then through the golden gate into the harbor this great tanker will unload enough crude to finally fuel more than 000 cars heat more than 6 000 homes for a year yet it's just a small fraction of america's energy needs even for one day in 30 hours the north slope will again put to see on a compass heading of 328 degrees her destination alaska and valdez harbor [Music] [Music] so freestyle skiing it began in america freestyle is performed by people to uh what they showed on the world of parade world on parade uh i should say um two things i mentioned found footage festival and this last film mentioned manhattan uh and next week uh quite quickly um and suddenly i'm to be in manhattan for a week um helping one of the found footage festival guys open a video store um so what is that going to mean for our show i'm going to try to post a show every day i don't think i'll be able to do it live but i will try to do that so um it's a weird thing my wife and i are like wow that was strange but i i saw the the av geek signal in the sky saying help us help us help us and so um we're rising to the challenge um so there you go all right it's time to talk about some color harmony for your home enjoy heraldry marked man's early use of color in coats of arms it symbolized great families it stood for king and crown and royal splendor unfurled against the sky colorful banners became the symbols of great nations through the dark ages and the renaissance fine artists used color with great skill but for hundreds of years color was a scarce commodity in the drab lives of most people until the alchemists became scientists and then it happened with a suddenness that rocked the civilized world now there is color everywhere color within the reach of everyone parking lots reveal the rainbow's hues as the color revolution gains momentum practically everything we buy today is available in a range of color choices ceramics radios luggage telephones [Music] ranges bathroom fixtures countertops floor coverings and fabrics color to excite the mind color to delight the taste [Music] now of course the problem is how to get the colors you want how to create order out of confusion how to select wall colors that will tie these multi hued turning to the same number in the album all the colors surrounding the number will harmonize because they are tints shades or tones of the same hue thus the range of color choices from the color harmony selector is almost infinite in room decoration there are three basic harmonies in general use one color harmony called monochromatic where different values and chromas of the same hue are used related color harmony where neighboring colors are used from adjacent sectors of the color wheel and contrasting color harmony where colors are used from opposite sectors of the color wheel most people begin planning a color harmony around something they already own or plan to buy let's assume you have selected a drapery fabric let's try creating a monochromatic color scheme designed to enhance the drapery material [Music] first you turn the plastic disc to the sector which harmonizes with the drapery colors the color harmony selector locates the monochromatic family of colors in which the fabric belongs the number of the color family is six so turn to the number six spread of colors in the album [Music] because walls are the largest area in a room let's find a pleasing wall color first here's one that brings out the lively golden tones of the fabric but is soft enough to be used in large wall areas [Music] with the drapery and the wall color selected choose your carpeting in a pleasing soft neutral shade of the same color family while upholstery fabrics can pick up some of the deeper and more brilliant tones of the drapery thus a refreshingly beautiful room can be created using a monochromatic color scheme now let's try a related color scheme designed around another drapery fabric you selected a cool refreshing fabric in blues and greens for a bedroom many people don't realize that blues and greens can be used together but using the color harmony selector and choosing appropriate shades of each color an unusually pleasing harmony can be achieved hold the green color of the fabric next to the sector that matches it in hue then turn the disc through the related color sectors to the one that matches the blues in the material from the colors in any of these four adjacent sectors we can build a pleasing related color harmony now let's choose a nice blue for the walls the color family that matches the drapery blue is number 19. so turn to the other shades of greens and blues within the range of the four related color sectors a rug in a deeper tone of blue to harmonize with the wall ties the whole scheme together now let's see how beautiful that we didn't realize is the albanian national archive in the bathrooms did not have toilet paper um some of the more seasoned uh travelers of friends of ours from the states knew to travel with uh little things of tissue uh we did some of us the dudes didn't know that so um one of us uh reached out to uh went to a convenience store across the street the grocery store and came back with this big like 24-pack thing of toilet paper and it was all bright pink and scented and he's like that's all they had and i'm like all right well i'll take what i can get at this point but it was um it was fascinating um didn't think about that like nobody said that to me like oh hey you know you might want to bring your own uh wipes um but uh and the toilets were different they were kind of i guess people said they were that whole building was russian was built by the russians from a gift to the albanians and so everything was uh different so anyways there you go too much information um tmi tp question mark i don't know uh this next film is a really fascinating film this came from uh like i said we do work for other archives and this is for the academic film archive and this is uh uh kind of a um folk life documentation thing of the georgia seal island singers so this is pretty joyous uh enjoy river on one side beach on the other side and woods in between different roads and the old fort and the old spanish moss that hangs on the tree that you know drip down look like the wind blower look like you're blowing a blanket or something you know it's just a beautiful place to live and corny but i also love showing stuff that is um fascinating documentation um that of of times past uh in cultures especially ones in the united states um that we don't always know so much about so
