sorry i was eating a big cookie my assistant brought me a big chocolate caramel cookie sandwich um or sandwich cookie and um i took a big bite i was like oop i only have 10 seconds left anyways i'm skip alzheimer welcome to the av gigs lunchtime streaming show so tomorrow is home movie day and traditionally when there's not a pandemic we set up our gear at a library or some public spot and we digitize people's home movies and home video and it's a great time because we get to hear stories and we get to see stuff that people haven't seen before or haven't seen and you know since it was shot it's really a magical thing and it's an international event so lots of places around the globe are doing it um tomorrow october 16th and then there's also other upcoming events uh you can go to homemovieday.com and see what's going on and what events are going on uh so i've got two things i'll be doing tomorrow one is experimental maybe mildly annoying um doing the av geeks home movie day shuffle where i'm showing films clips from home movies all of them are between 15 and 40 seconds in length and they're literally thousands of them and so they'll be mixing and matching from all sorts of places this is for the tick tock generation um and that will start at 10 a.m tomorrow on youtube uh in the comments i have put two things that are happening um tonight i'm gonna be with the north carolina science museum we're going to be showing a house on haunted hill that's via zoom so you can register on the link that i have on the um in the comments and get a link when we go live at 6 00 pm eastern standard time tonight and we watch that film um then tomorrow uh at 5 p.m uh we will be sharing home videos uh myself my wife and the found footage festival guys will be showing some of our personal home videos and then also uh some found things uh and i mean found footage festival they have this gift and they found some outrageous stuff now um it is a little bit more adult there is some profanity and there is some brief nudity so be prepared for that um i try to keep my uh streaming relatively clean for all audiences although it does get a little troubling sometimes with clowns i suppose um but um yeah this is definitely a found footage event and they love showing the butts so there's going to be some butts and some cursing um anyways there's a link for that in the uh it's on youtube uh tomorrow five o'clock so much to talk about let's talk about the integrity of food enjoy when it looks good and it's clean the wise baker though knows that bread dough must be processed in clean equipment he also knows the flour the sugar the dry milk solids all the other items needed are of top quality that these ingredients were held in a clean and a protected storage area before use yes there are many stops and goes which alert us this modern control panel in today's milk pasteurization plant must be observed by an alert worker concerned with important sanitation control measures so that's what this film is all about we'll observe sanitation guidelines in the handling of food by machines and by people because you whose job it is to process or store or transport that food have important responsibilities yes today's distribution centers move lots of food and fast but good sanitation practice is a must for instance this forklift operator in a warehouse should be as well trained in matters of sanitation as he is in the actual machines operation have you it has been said a sanitary plant is an orderly place orderliness leads to efficiency no matter where it occurs in a warehouse in a milk plant or any other production operation plant cleanliness an index of good management is good business but the practice of sanitation is also required by the federal pure food law as we observe food stocks moving through food plants warehouses and other distribution centers we might well ask the question what about the food handling equipment used in the movement of all this food is it clean so an essential rule in evaluating what is needed to ensure product integrity is to keep food handling equipment clean in a food storage area the cleanliness is important not only the pallet itself with care and its maintenance but the floor area of the immediate environment in which palletized food is held until used this and to other fittings used in automotive milk transportation tanks for bulk delivery thus we maintain the integrity of the food from the farm to the processing plant in other words the environment let's consider in some detail food storage under an imaginary microscope if you please possible contamination of food by insects is our subject is our good we won't find insect damage products if good sanitation practice includes reject all incoming contaminated food this includes the immediate cleanup where spillage or contamination has occurred at the loading platform delivery truck pallet storage position whatever proper record keeping of rejected or contaminated foods encountered is also a must in good sanitation practice for instance will the material be destroyed where how or will it be allowed to accumulate in some other area of the plant yes refrigeration is a significant control in preventing decomposition of the product and or its contamination but we not only must maintain proper storage temperature we must practice sanitation while we refrigerate meticulous attention is required in the cleaning and handling of equipment used in the refrigeration of food this refrigerated milk storage tank and attendant sanitary piping is a good example but it is also important that free circulation of refrigerated air not be hindered by overcrowded palletized stocks in storage let's review now an extremely basic rule we must apply in our study of the integrity of food and that is store food away from walls it's difficult to keep this area clean it appears clean now but how long is it apt to stay that way but the painted item code and pallet position lines in this storage area appear to be clean this is sanitation in action so if we can store food in a clean work environment up from floors and away from walls and with orderliness frequent and thorough examinations will be made yes proper inventory rotation the fifo first in first out is valuable warehouseman's jargon and every good food storage manager is convinced of the virtue of this sanitation practice so real areas of a warehouse must be scrupulously clean and all undesirable lots immediately destroyed so beware don't let it be the primary contamination center avoid positive approach in guarding against incidental chemical contamination of food is do not use or store poisonous chemicals near food this means we restrict pesticide control measures to careful application of chemicals according to pesticide regulations let's review now another possible contamination associated with rodents birds or similar pests first off this tight-fitting door to the outside may keep them outside but let's also take a look outside good sanitation practice means also clean grounds about a food plant an area free of litter waste refuse or other items that may constitute an attractant breeding place or harborage for such pests but inside the plant in food storage areas fresh rodent tracks visible in flower dust is a dangerous signal a breakdown of sanitation control this is x spots located by ultraviolet light are confirmed as rodent urine by further tests so a sample is taken by the sanitarian for the laboratory tests required we must regard sanitation as a quality of cleanliness in storage areas if we are to maintain an effective pest control program but let's maybe a grade a quality product in storage or it may within the meaning of section 402 a 4 of the food drug and cosmetic act be adulterated food if it has been prepared packed or held under insanity conditions whereby it may have been contaminated with fill or whereby it may have been rendered injurious to health unquote every person and second reflect positive attitudes in the practice of sanitation so let's review what you may do in keeping food clean a prime benefit of good sanitation practice you can be proud of your immediate workstation such as a clean pallet and a truly fine product in storage and be conscientious about it you can be methodical in what you do or in simple language make it a habit to proceed in an orderly manner whatever you do be thorough in how you do your job which means you take pains in being careful about details so you can evaluate requirements needed to ensure product integrity become familiar with these general rules and you will help to make integrity of food a responsible concept of sanitation this type of genre i call could have been a film strip um but the subject matter is so good uh the um i'm sorry i was just reading comments i need to not do that while i'm talking um yeah that's uh rat urine feces good times chemicals and food um this next film is actually on the if i stand over here the telecini wow this is all got wonked out here thank you for uh someone for telling me to turn on my neon sign there it is uh anyways the telescene right here i have a film queued up uh called chemical feast and um it's made by nat television which was uh kind of a precursor to pbs we've actually been uh digitizing some nat uh for a university um and i'm hoping to see more films like this in there um there's a wide variety there's math lectures there's pretty interesting documentaries there's more math lectures um so anyways here is uh chemical feast enjoy remember the old days the pies your mother used to make you go into the kitchen there's mom breaking eggs beating them there'd be rich country cream and sugar and fresh fruit and real vanilla beans and butter remember all that well you can forget it we've eliminated all the old sentimentalities modern baking through modern chemistry here's a pie you can make with the same ingredients that the manufacturer uses and lists on the box the same ingredients that i have right here we'll make the crust first let's begin with some wheat flour that's always good for a beginning when you're making a crust just pour it right through the sifter and make sure that any dross or detritus is caught by the mesh of the sifter there it goes it's all gone that's fine now we're going to put some sugar in to make it sweet just lay the sugar in nicely a little shortening to shorten the crust so it doesn't stay long in the bowl and use your friendly tools but all you have to get the shortening in there that's good don't let it fight you it's always going to fight you now to make it stay moist and loose you want to put some water in that's really good add a little sweetening from our friend dextrose hospital tested hospital approved lay it right in now we want to mix a little sorghum flour with a little grain flour and some gram flour mix that around and put your sorghum flour in there too and just let it all go in make sure you're getting all the impurities out that's fine okay and a little dash of salt to give it some power and strength so it could stand there proud here's some sodium bicarbonate you want to measure this out carefully i'm going to be careful with the two of these spools so they stick together like little spoons do okay there's some sodium bicarbonate and here's its antidote ammonium bicarbonate they think of everything don't they you might have some trouble finding these but if you ask around you might get these ingredients from some friends of yours or if you know any drugstore chemist and what's a pie without a little artificial flavoring and coloring just put it in there so it looks appetizing that's fine we'll just let this set chemically and heat up by itself and go over and make the body of the pie we're going to start with water just lay that water right in the bowl that's good and add some corn syrup it's thick and it's sweet and it's just fine it lays right in there with the water great here's some shortening we have shortening in both sides in the crust and in the body get some help for our friend the wooden spoon where the spoon helps us out to get the shortening in there excellent more sugar just to make it sweet here's our sugar sits there with the shortening and the sugar and the dextrose and now we get to the interesting part here they come here are whey salt fresh from bossy to you lay that right in there mix it around make sure you have enough that's dairy fresh dairy approved sits right in there now we're going to food starch modified what are the modifications no one knows but they've been modified for some years that sits in there makes it thick too more dextrose more sweets behind the sweets that sits in there here's some sodium caseinate remember the word casein see it in glue and paints this is something different though it's a dairy product as well and not bad for you nutritionally that's good now we come to an important part time to add the flavoring this is what distinguishes our pie from other pies it has a certain amount of flavor that's good great some gelatin to give that flavoring a little mush and gush and make it stand tall and proud in the world of pies real gelatin now we put some whole milk solids also a very wonderful natural dairy item that's good monosodium and diglycerides this is an emulsifier make it hang together paint together and stay sloppy in your tummy another dash of salt just a little just a dash like snow it's not pretty tasty vinegar to give it that old tartness but be careful you don't put too much vinegar in if you do the kids will be turning their noses up at it saving you made a vinegar pie and you don't want to do that polysorbate number 60 not 58 or 59 or 61 if you have trouble finding this your local organic chemical supply house probably have a little for you this is an emulsifier and it's also [ __ ] spoilage so many pies these days are spoiling right and left this one doesn't spoil ever you keep it for seven or eight months here's some vanilla to counteract the vinegar and a little more flavoring that's fine and our old friend where is he where are you there she is this is monosodium phosphate can be found in laxatives and detergents cleans all kinds of tubes out you'll have a clean pie we'll just lay this in right here you don't want to put too much acts like a draenor or something all right now we go to the texas grasslands for a little guar gum that's fine that's purely organic the lecithin for the arteries that's it and what's a pie without a little artificial color just a couple drops not too much you don't want it to clash with the walls or the curtains that's fine okay you may wonder what kind of a pie we've made here see that i'll show you exactly what kind of a pie it is there it is a modern lemon cream pie i'll open take the paper off factory fresh factory approved no lemons no eggs no cream just pie let's play the creative play food challenge foods no longer fall into the simple categories they once did when we go to the market we no longer buy just a sack of potatoes a bag of sugar or a pound of steak we are now confronted and challenged by alluring packaging hard sell advertising and too many choices it is also difficult to judge the real worth of foods now that chemicals contribute to the confusion for that matter how can we judge how much the ingredients should cost when oftentimes we cannot determine what the ingredients are now one of the new categories is the creative play food a chemical whimsy created for fun and profit your fun the creator's profit now let's play the creative play food challenge we'll describe four creative play foods and withhold the price you guess which one costs the most per pound here are the four products shoppers bear the price in mind here's number one a truly revolutionary product froot loops so sweet it could be called the first breakfast dessert up to now no one wanted a dessert for breakfast but it took a kind of genius to whip up some sugar some blended flour and non-metal pitcher is smiling is kool-aid by the pound costs five dollars and eighty cents chuck steak this little chuck steak sells for 69 cents a pound can you imagine what it's going to cost when it becomes sizzling staccato bits and joins the ranks of the play foods try to imagine that go ahead i'll leave i love that guy um he shows up on uh something i mentioned like almost a year ago probably maybe longer than that uh there was this uh streaming channel called to be uh that you can see on your roku and on your computer and they have um a show that nat did called the great american dream machine and these bits are from that show um and so marshall efren's on there a lot uh doing different bits and one of the bits is they actually go to his apartment in new york and it is filled it's like a tiny little little apartment and it is filled with stuff with books and weird whatever um definitely makes me you know go like oh that's probably how i would be living um he also of course has cats but um i dig that guy a lot he uh the consumer aspect of this is is pretty amazing uh and i like i said i have other ones of these on film uh and so we might dig some more of those up at some point uh really great um so this film is uh from the uh craig baldwin archive craig baldwin of course is an amazing filmmaker uh who's based in uh san francisco in the mission district mission district uh he also does a screening series called other cinema at ata and uh he's a good friend and we have done screenings there before and i've had screenings with him here in raleigh before anyways this is a great film from his collection called treasures and a garbage can enjoy [Music] when you toss away a can or a bottle or the scraps from your dinner table the chances are that you don't think much about it nobody thinks much about it but it piles up your refuse and your neighbors the refuse of all the people around you we move it out of our buildings into our streets and alleys hundreds of tons a day if we left it there it'd pile up until it might in time drive us from our city ugly dirk dangerous and unhealthy [Music] okay [Music] but early every morning before most of us are up these men start out to handle the problem [Music] two men to a truck they work as a team every day they drive together in a constant battle to clear their city it's a tough day's work but it has to be done to keep our city clean in this city everyone helps the garbage men we separate our refuse into two containers one for garbage food scraps and waste from our tables the other for bottles and tin cans the things we can't burn we carry our cans and boxes to the curb to save the garbage men time and to cut down the cost of collection every day we see these trucks moving through our streets and alleys we watch these men picking up our refuse can by can but how many of us really think about them in the job they do what happens to what we throw away is it all wasted [Music] let's look at the trucks they're designed to be clean efficient and cheap this type is meant to haul food waste only not tin cans or glass its metal cover is kept closed in traffic and between collection areas from its step the loader can quickly pick up the cans we've put out for it [Music] when a piggy bank breaks we separate the money from the glass the money goes into your pocket and the glass should go into the rubbish box but sometimes we forget to separate our refuse and carelessly throw a piece of glass into the can for food scraps [Music] this truck only picks up garbage leaving tin cans and bottles behind [Music] [Music] when a garbage truck is full it returns to the collection yard to be weighed three tons per truck hundreds of truckloads a day these men have finished their garbage route so the dispatcher has assigned them to a different truck to pick up rubbish he coordinates the whole job like a military campaign every crew must clear a different area each day and the dispatcher records the area they've covered on a district map the crew empties the truck into an elevated hopper [Music] they use a winch to lift the truck bed because this saves us the cost of buying dump trucks [Music] the hose carries water under high pressure [Music] after each load they flush the inside of the truck and now because they're through with this truck for the day they also wash the cab and cover [Music] garbage is transferred from this hopper within a few minutes after it's received it's sold to private contractors they move it quickly out of the city in their large covered trucks [Music] me [Music] you [Music] these pigs are waiting for their dinner and here it comes at last [Music] like healthy pigs everywhere they're always hungry [Music] these pigs are fed the scraps of food that people don't eat they live in clean pens with shade and running water and every week a government agent inspects them to make sure that they're healthy and well fed each pen opens into a concrete feeding alley [Music] thousands of pigs like these grow fat on food that would otherwise be wasted food we separate and save for them at home [Music] but a tin can or a piece of glass isn't good to eat that's why we separate our refuse this broken piggy bank shouldn't be here but here [Music] our crew collects bottles and tin cans in a different kind of truck the truck is full late covered with canvas [Music] [Applause] [Music] metal glass and other rubbish is sold to her by products company as it moves through their plant a sorter removes many useful objects for special treatment such as tires scrap iron paint buckets wire and bulky tins you can find almost anything on this belt if you wait long enough [Music] this is a magnetic roller it pulls everything made of iron like tin cans off the belt leaving glass and other objects to continue along the line some bottles like these are set aside they'll be returned to manufacturers who'll sterilize them and use them again this job takes sharp eyes and close attention the rest of the glass is sorted into two large bins one for colored glass the other for clear glass [Music] toys are also saved [Music] meanwhile cans separated by the magnet in this roller move along another belt cans are stored in this hopper from it they're drawn off into a furnace where labels are burned off as they cool the blackened cans move up on a bucket elevator toward a shredding machine pulled out by the sorter is called riff raff it's fed into a heavy-duty shredder this riff-raff is chopped up by rotating steel knives [Music] all this metal the metal we throw away is saved after it's burned and shredded we load it into railroad cars and ship it to the copper mine there it's used to extract copper from copper ore by precipitation this discarded metal is vital in making the copper that's so important to us all [Music] this mountain of glass is glass that you have thrown away [Music] after the glass is broken and washed these men sort through it to remove corks and bottle caps [Music] clean broken glass is called cullet it's melted down and used to make new bottles there's some colored in all ordinary glass so it goes bottles broken glass cullet and new bottles again [Music] nothing is wasted even discarded toys are collected from all over the city [Music] they're repaired by volunteer workers so that children can play with them again every toy is cleaned and given a personal touch [Music] do [Music] so time [Music] when the workers are finished they send these toys to toy lending centers throughout the city there kids can come in and borrow them like books from a public library when a boy or girl has shown that he takes good care of these borrowed toys he can adopt one for his very own [Music] because we separate our refuse nothing is wasted the food we can't eat is fed to pigs old bottles from our rubbish boxes are used to make new glass the tin cans we throw away help to make valuable copper and broken toys play again so when you toss away a can or a bottle or the scraps from your dinner table remember to separate them carefully because with your help a good garbage collection system can turn everything you throw away into treasure for us all [Music] quaint um i like it and you know you see that they were separating garbage even back then stuff that um can't be burned like the glass in the middle and the food scraps um yeah fascinating i mean you tell a lot about a civilization on how they deal with their trash and their poop and their food a lot to be said uh yeah this book's for you [Music] today we plan to talk about books and about reading we'll have to talk about things very close to us if we are to understand ourselves and others if we're to learn about reading and if we're to find out what books can do for us many questions need to be considered we'll start with a short one now you listen carefully how do you feel about books and about reading how about you carol well i hate to read i only read when i have to stumble for schoolwork uh-huh how about michael no i don't care i'm not married [Music] how about you pat well i love to read and i think it's wonderful because well you can read when you have to look something up and you need to make a report on something or you can just read for pleasure which is what i do most of the time floyd i don't like to read period [Laughter] what do you mean by the period it's just not good i for some reason i hate it you know lots of boys feel that way floyd just as lots of people feel the way pat and roots and blood feel how about you ed how do you feel about reading well i don't like reading very much except for on cars like i like mechanics myself thanks ed how about you bud if i see a good book i just can't keep my hands off of it i read about one and a half each week as you can see some people love reading and others don't like to read at all why let's try to find out we'll start with those who don't read and ask them why don't you read seraphino well i like to go outside and play and have a lot of fun and most of the time at night when i read i'm mostly disturbed by my brother or someone else in the house and uh and sometimes when i'm leaning i just i just fall asleep sometimes when i read and uh i like to read newspapers because they're more up to date and books are not uh well you can't um some of the words in the book you can't you can't know what their meaning is some of the authors well sometimes when i start a book it starts off very good but then all of a sudden it's like a surprise it gets very boring and there's nothing it's there's like um no use finishing this story and you just think well um there's just no use right that happens so often michael jackie well i found out that i don't read as much as i used to because most of the books at the end it just isn't right they have books about teenage girls and they have problems just like anyone else but then the end of the book they all end up so nice and pretty and that's not really true and i wish authors would write more true-to-life books and so many other girls agree with you jocelyn well i like to read a lot and i wish i could read more but the homework we get we don't have time to read well i think that most children have founded television and has taken the place of books because they are also educational and you don't have to read and it doesn't take up as much time that's true ed but on the other hand how many of you after seeing a tv show have gone to the library to find a book on the same subject you see it works both ways now what are some other reasons why people don't read i've heard boys and girls say that if they read their friends would think that they're eggheads you think that people who read are eggheads well i don't think they're exactly kids because they didn't read a little that they wouldn't know very much i'd rather look up to people who mean because i uh feel that they are quite intellectual when they do and i enjoy reading myself and people who do read i feel are very smart and uh are spending their time wisely is there anybody who disagrees with bruce i don't like to think of people as intellectual or uninfinite well i like to think of them as just other people and if they read it's couldn't find it it doesn't make any difference how much i like it are there any other comments if not let's hear from those who do enjoy reading tell us why do you read well i like to read just to get away from everything else that's just happening in my regular life pat well i like to read because i think it gives me a better foundation in certain subjects i like to read because i can put myself in the place of the character of the hero kyle well when you read you have a lot of things uh from the book that you couldn't really have like a horse a lot of books you can read about a horse but you can't really own a horse a lot of times oh well it gives me enjoyment and it makes you feel like you can fit into a crowd or somebody's talking about the latest events that um you could that you read in a newspaper or a book that has just been just come out and everybody's talking about it you feel that you know something about it too and you fit into the crowd that's talking to you how about you candy why do you read oh i love to read when my friend suggests a new book i know she's a marvelous reader and i always just dive right into it as soon as i can get it um like ann said i find it a retreat the things that start going wrong for the day i go up to my room and read at night and sort of brings everything about cheerful again and this works out perfectly what have you found out about yourself and about others that made you feel that reading was worthwhile margaret you know i found out that um sometimes you complain you say oh why don't i have this and why don't i have that and then you go and you read and you find out a lot of other people don't have it and that you're not the only one who has to suffer or go through certain things there are many other people who yeah so that's a good thing yeah that's a good thing to learn jocelyn well sometimes people are afraid of doing things and if you're like that and then you read a book about somebody who's in the same trouble and they straighten theirs out you know how you're going to straighten it out also or they help you uh pat well there was a girl in our neighborhood that nobody particularly liked and finally i brought myself to offer a book which i thought was very good and she read it and afterwards she was so changed that pretty soon everybody began to like her and she had a lot more friends and i think it was partly because she decided that reading was pretty good after all and then she started reading a lot more yes that might be pat but it might also be that she was so grateful to find a friend who shared her interest we've heard a few reasons why some of you read let's think now about the kinds of books you read we'll have to put this on the board elise will you go to the board and drop this down please just call out uh the kinds of stories that you are reading now well uh uh right now i'm reading um about astronomy and prehistoric animals and is that right uh i like to read mystery stories and some classics and i also like adventure stories i read new stories floyd comic books well we have a long long list just look at the board and see how very long uh the list is of the different types of books that you read are all the children in this class interested in all those books how many boys are interested or would be interested in reading astronomy stories four how many girls zero teenage boys one girl two how many are there eight eight well there you have some figures on your own interest you look at those figures what do they tell you about the reading interests of the girls and boys in this class was a different a way that uh boys usually like adventure stories of planes and mechanics and things like that whereas girls like uh stories of say careers or other girls problems and boys don't usually like that right uh so that you see that boys and girls uh have different kinds of interests what else can we learn from our chart bruce our interests in this class are quite wide you can see how much uh or i see how much we've changed in just a couple of years from well girls from say adventure stories into career stories and teenage stories how many people find that they too uh are not reading the same type of stories that they read let us say two three years ago would you raise your hand for the most part that's true we still stick to some old favorites but many of us uh change something else affects your reading we might think about it now before we talked about what are the kinds of things that you're interested in the types of books that you're interested in and you said animal stories see stories adventure stories comic books and so forth are these the things that you're really interested in or are you at the present time concerned with other problems to which you would want answers is there anything that you want to know more about jocelyn do you want to stop well some people are ashamed of their parents or or somebody in their family in some way they're different than somebody else um and i'd like a book on that the margaret yes as you get older you sort of um get more conscientious of uh what you look like and well i have a straight hair and i sort of wish it was naturally curly though people who have naturally curly hair would don't like it and it sort of gets me mad when it doesn't come out right or just doesn't seem to do what i wanted to do on certain days or certain nights it just comes out the wrong way and so you think you would like some help than that how about your relations with your family your relationship with your family is there uh are you concerned at all about that may we pick mark on that well uh my uh brother jay uh he's always when i do something um that isn't too bad he goes running to my mom he starts screaming all over the place and then he um just makes a lot of noise and i go up and i have to go to my room just because of him yes and that's that's something which is very common candy i have really two problems when i fight constantly with my younger sister even though i love her dearly we just seem to be at the age where we just don't strike it off very well and either she's jealous of me or i'm jealous of her because she has something new and always constantly fighting and second my father is never around he's always too busy doing this and that and it's sort of good to have somebody around to help you even when you need something you need a father around but my father's too busy seems to have the time to be there and you'd like some help with that how to solve that kind of problem what are you concerned about ed well i have a friend that started to go to school and he's having trouble with his mother i'd like to have a book on um something like that on how you could handle your mother that sounds like it's a common problem i'm sure many of you have other troubles sensitive spots and dreams too very close to you which you don't want to discuss in class if you want to talk to me about them we can arrange to meet perhaps then i can suggest to you books which might help you to understand and to cope with your conflicts satisfy your curiosity and maybe even help those dreams come true from the general discussion today i learned a great deal about your interests something about your problems and your concerns and i think i have with me some of the books you might want to read for example so many of you seem to want to know more about families about family life about parents who are different and how to get along with your sisters and brothers for you i have mama's bank account jonah's island the giant mountain and young razzle but you'll have to browse through them to find the one that fits you for boys and girls like carl and ann who love horses but can have them only in books here's the red pony girls like margaret concerned with personal problems might be interested in looking through ruth better as a girl grows up for those of you who can't stay with a long story i have many books of short stories there are many books here for you to look through there's a book for each one of you if you want to you can come up and examine these books you can come up now um what may i ask is a dear little cupcake like you doing with nasty old school books my dear child we haven't had school or books and ages no school really why don't you get rid of that schoolbook you can drop them in here it'll get all burned up in there well of course it will dear child and so it should books tamper with man's basic natural ignorance now what could be worse than that but i can't burn this book at see the name but when someone said they wanted to dress up as a great polonie for halloween you should do it um and not just halloween i think that it's uh it's a good look no matter what it's just like uh uh i had my wife watch uh wicker man the original um for the first time she had not seen it and there's christopher lee look so good in that movie i'm like man i want to grow up my hair there's a scene where he's wearing this like turtleneck and he's got his jacket and his hair is like nuts i was like yeah so definitely dress up for that um and not just for halloween just just a good look to have um thanks everybody for bearing with that last film that last film i think was made for teachers and librarians um to come up with ways to talk to kids about uh you know the looking to see getting them interested in reading and like what are your reading interests what are your interests and getting them to kind of think about that like how the school library can be this resource and public libraries can be this resource where you can find out more about your interests and it's kind of early uh for that type of film to actually have unscripted kids talk normally it's not that way at all you start seeing that in the late 60s and early 70s but not so much in the 50s but um i liked how the teacher said bigger figures uh thank you jim for the coffee very much appreciate that
