hi everybody i'm skip alzheimer let me turn this off uh i'm skip alzheimer and this is the 80 geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 millimeter films and that last film was some kind of raw footage written on the can was what is form and um we got that from rensselaer polytechnic institute in uh troy new york and we're getting rid of a bunch of their films and they gave them to us um i have no idea what that was all about i haven't seen a finished version of the film i i don't know so there you go but what i do know is if you're not paying attention you might confuse that film what is form with this next film what is for so here's what it's for so you can tell the difference enjoy whoa there mr horse we want to count how many legs you have four the milk wagon has wheels four has the milkman as many legs as the horse no he has only two legs of course how many bottles of milk does a milkman carry in his basket let's count all the bottles in the milkman's basket one two three four five six seven eight nine ten ten bottles in each row what a lot of bottles the milkman puts three bottles down one more bottle that makes four bottles one more bottle that makes five bottles this is a drawing of this is a drawing of four bottles and this is a drawing of five bottles when we order bottles we write three like this we write four like this and we write five like this four three four is more than three then two and four is more than one tommy has a tower three blocks high ruth makes her tower four blocks high tommy needs one more block to make his tower as high as roofs because four is more than three ruth starts a new pile she puts two blocks down one on top of the other ruth must put on two more blocks because four is two more than two one block all by itself ruth must add three more blocks because four is three more than one one two three four four blocks high one two three four four blocks long here we see that four is one more than three and four is two more than two and four is three more than one but four is one less than five and four is two less than six it's time for milk tommy puts out napkins for four children and cups for three children where is tommy's cup there must be four cups if everyone is going to have milk tommy goes to cup for himself now there are enough cups for everybody here we see four circles no matter which way you see this group it's still four it may be this kind of four group or it may look like this this it may be this kind of four group or even this and this is for two remember this is the way we write the name of this whole family the four family four of anything belongs to the four family four legs on a horse four wheels on a wagon four bottles four circles four boxes four sticks like this four sticks like that four of anything make the four family and this is how we write the number four one less than four in a group makes the three family three wheels on a tricycle three bottles three circles three boxes three sticks like this three sticks like that three of anything make the three family and this is how we write the number three four and one more make five five bottles one two three four five points on a star five boxes five sticks like this five sticks like that five of anything make the five family and we write the number five like this now we are going to see how to write everything we know about the four family we know that two and two more are four we can write that this way two and two are four or we can write two and two are four this way we know three and one make four we write that this way three and one are four or we can write three and one are four this way one and three make four we can write one and three are four or one and three are four remember the table tommy set for milk there were four cups on four napkins when he was through take away one cup that leaves three cups one from four leaves three here we have four balls roll away two that leaves two balls two from four leaves two four pencils the teacher needs three three from four leaves one four shoes take away one that leaves three shoes because one from four leaves three four dogs take away two that leaves two dogs two from four leaves two stars three race away and leave one behind because three from four leaves one we know that four take away one is three we write that like this four take away one is three or we can write that like this four take away one is three if we take two away from four we have only two left we write that like this four take away two is two or we can write four take away two is two like this we know that four take away three is one we write that like this four take away three is one or we can write that like this four take away three is one we've learned many things about the number four and the number three and some things about the number five any boy or girl with sharp eyes can find number families all around every day perhaps your eyes are sharp enough now to find these number families for yourself do you think you have such sharp eyes i'm just kidding [Laughter] um yeah that uh some people said yeah it's very meditative uh surprisingly so and then they were like okay what is this gonna stop um but i wanna be a member of the four family it seems like a nice family um yeah that is uh math films can be really tedious sometimes um probably the most tedious of uh any of the educational films so behind me i have set up a telecine and we're going to watch a film being transferred live this one is uh from the fine folks at general motors and it is unrestrained flying objects enjoy there's a miss hold on hopefully this won't crash let's try that again you have just seen a ufo for some people these letters those elements because they represent an unknown thread unidentified flying objects by definition confront us with the unknown [Music] but there there's another way to interpret [Music] unrestrained flying objects represent a very different story an everyday story quite familiar to all of us unrestrained are people children and adults who ride in automobiles and don't use their latin shoulder belt system [Music] how unusual we are we're fairly unknown and yet we're apparently casual with predictable danger even when faced with nearly 30 000 deaths hundreds of thousands of engines to car occupants and traffic accidents each year this is known nor though the number of highway deaths and injuries has dropped significantly in recent years but is still too good experts oh no i don't want to be locked to the seat my brother-in-law told me it's much better to be thrown clear of the car seatbelts what far my folks don't wear why should i i don't really think they apply to me i mean the way i drive you know grocery store pick up the kids at school i only make very short trips well i don't know i've been driving a car for years without seat belts uh i figure the odds are in my favor you know i've been okay so far so it's a white change in the real world these statements don't hold up very well they may sound familiar to somebody but that doesn't make them accurate the fact is that you have proven that you should be building to the vehicle it's your best chance of surviving the crash and being able to get out safely now when you're driving it's your decision that affects the safety and your passengers it's your decision that sets the example don't be fooled by distance in fact nearly 80 percent of all accidents occur within 25 miles of home and don't think accidents won't happen to you they do happen to confident and experienced capable people just like me by the thousands every year isn't it remarkable how quickly confronted with solid evidence isn't it even more remarkable how little the same evidence affects our driving habits or instills the buckle up in 1964 american car manufacturers began including front seat belt systems as standard equipped with all passenger cars yet after all the evidence had been compiled and presented since then showing the effectiveness of belt systems four out of five drivers still don't buckle up indeed how little we learn from facts [Music] the design of effective restraint systems is part of a larger safety research and development program the commitment to greater automotive safety exists but only the driver and his passing can carry out and complete interest [Music] general motors has the largest and most advanced safety research and development laboratory in the world this is tangible evidence of that commitment which has grown with advancing technology one of the most significant research developments has been the design and controlled observation of scientific test dummies the man in charge of this critical test area mike mulannon has devoted his life to providing first-hand information about what can happen to real people in auto crashes since the early 1950s test dummies have been used to examine crash reaction mike's group now maintains more than 60 anthropomorphic test dummies to satisfy constant gm safety testing just as drivers and passengers come in different shapes and sizes so do the dummies large men small women children and infants anthropomorphic a word used to describe this group's overall activities the study of human life characteristics the head neck chest pelvis and leg these are the primary areas of interest in testing the areas most likely to suffer serious injury in a crash situation test accuracy is critical and repeatable accuracy takes time to develop the neck construction on this dummy alone represents more than 15 years of research and engineering improvement very quickly we learned that the test dummies represent much more than department stored mannequins there was a startling reality within their purpose screen board start the tape [Music] for all of us who drive this is serious business as jeff pearson explains in a frontal collision the primary impact the crush of the vehicle takes place before you the unrestrained occupant ever hits anything the car hits and begins to crush immediately but everything inside the car that's unattached keeps on going until it hits something like the windshield or the instrument panel that's what we call the secondary impact belt systems are designed to couple you to the car so that you and the car both stop at the same time with a car absorbing the direct punishment of the impact without the belt system it's say hello to the steering wheel the windshield or the instrument panel right now with a full impact of the crash fastener belts can help avoid a crash too how by helping the driver stay behind the wheel and keep control of the car when he has to make a fast turn or a quick invasive maneuver just how important is it to use the belt systems provided in today's cars how important are twelve thousand lives each year your friends your family how important is your life to you there's no speculation involved properly restrained more people will survive more accidents avoiding death or serious injuries without the restraint you're going to bounce off the vehicle interior throughout the accident it's just that basic automotive safety includes much more than a consideration of belch systems types and shapes of materials are given careful consideration during the design of a car's interior for a reason even with your belt on there could still be moved in some contact with the vehicle interior jeff describes it this way we work on the concept of the friendly interior lease has door handles and controls energy absorbing steering column and instrument panels and windshield glass that resists penetration the total car is considered in attempting to reduce the chances of serious injury in those cases where the belt system may not be used and let's be realistic there will always be those people who don't use their belt system it's important to know the right way to wear a seat belt the left belt should be worn low and snug on the hip you don't want to wear the laptop up around the waist of the midsection in a final collision it could cause you to slip or submarine beneath the belt and cause injuries to the abdominal area always check for too much slack in the shoulder belt it doesn't have to be tight across your chest but don't make it any more loose than necessary for driving comfort most gm systems have a comfort adjustment mechanism which allows the belt to lay across the shoulder with little or no observable tension our goal is to make belt systems that offer good protection yet provide as much comfort as possible for the occupants for many of us convenience and driving safety still represent a choice the choice between wearing or not wearing belt systems our attitudes determine the ultimate decision and the consequences of that decision for every occupant in the car regardless of age children must rely on the adult's ability to make the right choice their safety or lack of safety depends on it without proper protection an accident poses serious consequences for the child passenger even a sudden stop at low speeds can be enough to cause injury children's smaller frames require special attention gm has designed special seats for both infants and children to provide that protection the child or infant seat offers two very significant additional benefits first it frees the driver to devote full attention to driving without distractions and second it helps to develop the restraint habit at an early age a good habit that should carry into these smaller passengers adult lives when they'll be the ones making the right choice and setting the right example much promise restraint the word implies the use of good judgment restraint the system is your application of that good judgment for safety's sake use both whenever you enter your car [Music] while we have only simulated crash situations with our unidentified dummies they do happen with real identifiable people every day i don't want to be locked to the seat what far my folks don't wear [Music] i only make short trips i've been okay so far they're too much trouble [Music] get into the habit know how to wear it right set the example yourself intelligent creatures we humans we know what is real and what is really an illusion restraints and the added safety they provide are as real as life itself [Music] uh so i left the microphone on and i'm sorry you got to hear me make um microwave my uh my bento of some leftover uh chinese food um yeah so i apologize for that uh malia malaya thank you for the coffee um that's one way you can support av geeks is by buying this coffee at ko dash fi.com av geeks or at buymeacoffee.com av geeks either one of those works you can also support us by giving us a thumbs up or hitting like uh or suggesting that other friends and family watch what we're doing all those things are great speaking of great this next film is uh it's a sponsored film it has a narrative to it but it's really just a long commercial for sc johnson wax and their fine products some time ago my assistants and i were digitizing a bunch of sc johnson products and we called it the sc johnson's war on the ozone layer because it seemed like anything you could possibly put into a spray can they would put it in this brake can so here is beauty and the bride enjoy [Music] so [Music] you know life is wonderful when you're young when you're in love let me tell you the story behind this letter it began as the story of april green about the nicest girl you've ever seen let's start with her family who lived not far from racine there were four of them nice people and all named green nothing was too much trouble for mr green or too much bother he was a successful farmer and a very good father mrs green was a terrific cook and a wonderful mother then there was billy green april's brother they're all thinking about april she's upstairs now packing her clothes we'd better meet april before she goes her family hopes she won't come to any harm but they're sure of one thing april is definitely going to leave the farm april could be as prettier girl as you've ever seen but april thinks a lot of things are silly like running after boys or just having fun that's why she pulls her hair straight back and wears it in a bun that's why she wears no makeup and says she doesn't care a thing about clothes that's true as far as it goes really i don't care a thing about clothes smearing powder on the end of my nose well you might think about it change my hair fix my face well it would appeal to the rest of the human race look sis your father's worried and so is your mother apparently the only person to tell you about it is me your brother sis i i don't want to be rude but honestly there's not much point in being a prude anyway why be so nice and dutiful when with just a little effort you could be so doggone beautiful [Music] well that's the way it started april green went off to racine she was young and nice and well pedantic at the time she wasn't even thinking things romantic what she wanted was a job april knew how to take dictation she could type 90 words a minute she became a very efficient secretary for robert deering a capable and rising young art bob was a very eligible young man but at the moment april had no particular plan at least not about bob but he had ideas not at the moment about april well there it is miss green not a great deal more i can do about it i guess good luck thanks i'm going to need it i got a lot of stiff competition on this job this is my first really big job you know see what is your first name april do you ever try smiling like that at yourself in the mirror i mean myself never mind what do you say we take the rest of the day off well you seem so interested in what i'm trying to do i am very interested well i'd like to show you what a real architect can do somebody gives him the chance kind of thing i hope to do some day well you'll do it thanks i appreciate your confidence well what do you say all right let's go when april left the office she was walking on air she didn't even glance down at this picture but she knew it was there she just didn't care it's a picture of bob's mother the mrs deering i'd better tell you one thing about mama dary she simply will not live alone of course bob's a bachelor but if he ever get married well there might be complications at the moment bob's mind is on something else entirely this is what bob was thinking about designed by frank lloyd wright architects and sightseers come here from all over the world fascinated by the extraordinary way 15 floors are cantilevered from a tall central core full of beauty and functional it's a tremendous achievement to support this great grass tower on a narrow 13 foot base [Music] go [Music] so [Music] april had never seen anything quite like this before she was dazzled from the moment they walked in the door not that she had very much to say she just looked around in a lovely dreamy kind of way what she saw was flowers and greenery inside the building was outside scenery [Music] it's like a dream yes but it's very practical too do you know well look who's here hello i was hoping we'd run into you april this is margaret scott an old friend of mine april green margaret and i are neighbors you work here in consumer service don't you that's right you think you'd have time to show us around for you bob why of course let's go this way thank you [Music] so [Music] this display represents our three major lines industrial maintenance and household products oh here's something i want to show you this parquetry floor was made in the first johnson factory originally we made only flooring you know then to protect in beautiful floors we went into manufacturing wax my mother has a floor of this this is beautiful isn't it over here are some pictures of our they foreign plant in england france canada australia and brazil beautiful fabulous place to make things out of wax it seems funny now wait a minute i know what she means wax may seem like pretty unexciting stuff till you really get to know it it's almost indestructible it isn't much affected by air or moisture naturally that's what makes it so useful let me show you what i mean come on bob i want you to see this too most people have no idea of the wonderful things mother nature does with wax do you realize that plants and fruits have wax and suits and little flowers hours conserving showers with wax apples shine when you rub them because nature has given them a coat of wax birds and animals are provided by nature with the protection of wax that's what makes a duck waterproof many insects secrete a wax bees for example beeswax was used over four thousand years ago to protect color paintings in the tombs of the pharaohs preserving them down through the years and now with modern science we've gone way beyond what nature does with plant or animal or mineral wax let me show you some things about the wax products made here and racine for polishing things and keeping them clean first of all let's see some of the different kinds of natural waxes my goodness i had no idea there were so many different kinds well fortunately for us nature's been very generous probably we couldn't live without wax but i want you to look closely at this display these are only a few out of hundreds and hundreds of kinds rose wax mimosa flowers of lavender wax and then there's chinese insect wax and beeswax from africa many of these aren't used commercially but there are some that are important carnava all the way from brazil and the wax from sugar cane you know with all of our experience with wax we're still learning developing new things every day over there in the towers where the new products are born it's all very scientific and somehow exciting to think of all the new things they're working on right now all sorts of work saving products yet to come it means so much especially if you're a woman all this research just to make housekeeping easier you know paste wax is the granddaddy of all wax products naturally modern manufacturing methods have greatly improved it but don't overlook all the new types of waxes for special uses some clean as you apply them some don't have to be rubbed then there are waxes for industry and for agricultural products you know nowadays oranges and all kinds of fruits and vegetables are being protected with wax and then they're all the hundreds of industrial uses for example wax lubricants for metal forming and metal cutting have helped greatly to increase production and improve the quality of metal products but let's get back to waxes used in homemaking the time and work saving waxes each new product must measure up to our own high standards science provides the controls and constant testing make sure that each can or bottle will be uniform and do exactly what it's supposed to do they call this quality control and it doesn't stop in the laboratory take floors for instance there are many different kinds of wooden floors there are cork floors linoleum asphalt vinyl plastic floors and floors of rubber tile we install these floors where we know they'll get heavy traffic and then we keep on checking we have our own kitchen where we test a special cleaning wax for this equipment we have all kinds of equipment and surfaces we test various waxes on fine wood paneling wood carvings even the fireplace bricks are used as test surfaces and the leather chairs or the making of really fine wax products is a lot more complicated than you would think you should see our pilot plant it's really a factory in miniature the step between test tubes and production here we can reproduce every process in manufacturing and wax making is an exacting kind of manufacturing when we're sure we're ready then still with controls all the way we go into production [Music] well i think this gives you at least an idea how painstaking we are and why we're so happy about our work and our products i simply had no idea it's partly selfish of course we have a profit sharing plan but it's much more than that this is an unusual company you know it is an unusual company but see you're in the third generation of management by the johnson family aren't you we're into the fourth generation and still trying to keep a promise to women around the world that they can depend on us for whatever is new and better in wax anything that'll make it easier to protect their things and keep them sparkling architecture and wax may be fascinating but there's no use in procrastinating that night when april went to bed a lot of lovely thoughts went around in her head it was all new to her this living in a blur [Music] why always be so nice and doodle when with just a little edge it could be so dark those were her brother billy and for the first time they didn't sound the least bit silly why not why not i think i'll try it her brother was right little makeup new hairdo some smart clothes and april really was beautiful that year racine had a beautiful spring bob bought a beautiful ring quite a thing they plan to be married very soon and go to paris on their honeymoon they did get married they had a beautiful wedding oh children you were wonderful i'm so proud of you we're gonna have to hurry honey if we get that flame don't you go away here hello yes well thank you well thank you very much bye well i'll get right to work on it goodbye bob what happened robert what's happened i just got the biggest job of my whole life oh that's wonderful yes but they want the plans right away there goes our honeymoon what do we do well that's easy children go when you're through i'll tell you what you're going to do my dear i'll go away you stay here oh mother that'll be wonderful poor april she's brutally disappointed but she doesn't want bob to know tim ken emily they've quit again remember oh i just can't get used to their not being here well you just have to go and get them back i will pack [Music] seems a shame and i'm to blame but just the same it's your big chance and it's a wonderful old house and it was a wonderful old house it will be for us i can take care of it do you think i'm sure it was a wonderful old house but it had been too much for timkens and emily april thought she could take care of it but what a way to spend a honeymoon there was nothing april could say it was mrs daring who went away bob went to work the very next day it was a tremendous satisfaction to get that big job and get into action this job would make possible a home of their own except that his mother would never consent to live alone april knew what a problem she had to face two generations trying to live in one place she hoped just by being persevering eventually to win over momma dairy so she vacuumed and she cleaned and she dusted she cut down on her knees and rubbed and scrubbed then she remembered something all this research just to make housekeeping easier and then april had a bright idea she thought it was a wonderful idea she felt better just thinking about it hello yes i don't know if you'll remember me april dearing well of course i remember you you were the prettiest bride i ever saw oh thank you miss scott i've been wondering about some of the things you said i have no right to ask this what's the trouble well i think it would be just awfully nice if you could drop around maybe with some advice i think i know what's on your mind don't let yourself get all unscrambled this kind of thing is easily handled right goodbye [Music] i'm doing the best i can but it'd take an army really to take care of this place and no matter what i do to it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference it's a wonderful old house but it's just too much for me and those curtains well let's start there now let me see if i know mrs deering i i don't think she'd want you to make any radical changes why don't you try this there that lets a little more light in oh yes i don't think you need these curtains at all i don't either i like it much better without them now what's under that whole carpet i don't know probably loud dirt let's take a look shall we it's a faded old dust catcher anyway it would be nice if you could get rid of it looks like i was right there was a grand old parquetry floor under the carpet cleaned up and waxed it would look wonderful but what about mama daring after all this is still her house why don't you keep this floor waxed that'll make it look shiny and new and you wouldn't have to scrub it nearly so often that'd be wonderful it's one thing to make housekeeping easier but they're talking about more than that all right you know i guess it isn't such a bad kitchen it could be a very cheerful room some bright curtains and a little wallpaper would help a lot it sure would and i don't think mother daring would mind i don't either well i don't know mrs dearing has her own ideas maybe april is letting her enthusiasm run away with her i'll start today i'll start with the floor right here [Music] [Music] bob took one look at the kitchen and said it was beautiful it was beautiful much easier to take care of what his mother would think well he wondered [Music] for april the days flew by on a wonderful breeze thanks to miss scott she felt she could now take care of the house with ease it were only her house if these were only her things bob must have been worried too one afternoon he surprised her here's the surprise tempkins if anybody knows mrs deering it's timkens so they asked him it's a bit of a shocker mom but i must say i must say you've done the old place up handsome thank you your mother will be pleased as punch i think and we hope timkins is doing day work now he says he can give us a day a week how nice may i try this thing mom i have a kind of weakness you might say for gadgets of course i was just gonna use it in the hall [Music] i thank you pardon timkens welcome home what in heaven's name do you think you're doing it was your idea to carpet this hall in the first place you said it was too much trouble to take care of we were behind times if i may say so mom they've taken the scrub and rub out of it today well i don't know how you did it timkins but this floor is simply beautiful thank you very much my curtains kimkins where are the children in the kitchen i think mom but before you see them yeah kim kim i've been doing a bit of thinking you know emily and i are not happy with day work oh how nice timkins yes ma after all one of these days the young people will want to be out on their own oh i couldn't possibly live alone certainly not babies are better off in their own home mom babies yes mom all that yet but babies indeed well not too much now do well fair surprise mother i love being away april i might as well tell you straight away that i love what you've done to this house why it hasn't looked like this since bob was a little boy even my curtains look better and timkin seems to think it would be much easier to take care of if you're too busy to take a proper honeymoon robert you must be getting along well enough to get a place of your own well yes but i thought you wanted us here well you said nonsense emily timkins and i are much too old to have a flock of squalling babies underfoot it it wouldn't be good for the babies either had you thought about that well you may be right mom of course i'm right how's the big job robert it's all finished good tipkins my bags are still on the front porch i'll fetch them and you better start packing yours okay mom hey wait a minute [Music] look what i did that's all right honey can't hurt anything just like that huh that's all there is to it not quite all no no [Music] well there you have it i knew things couldn't be better the moment i read this letter they're in love they're in paris and they're going to come back to a home of their own the old house well it still sparkles from floor to rafter and i'm quite sure everybody will live happily ever after [Music] i'll admit it i'm a stickler for results like keeping weeds out of my flower in shrub beds oh but what a backbreaking job until i found this new way to stop weeds before they start johnson yard master garden weed preventer it works like nothing you've ever seen before watch after taking out the weeds i just spray it's so easy i won't have to do that big weed job again because after mixing with the soil one application fights weeds all summer long look no yardmaster was used here and those weeds are battling the flowers here i use yardmaster and see how clear of weeds it is now instead of digging weeds i have more time for my flowers if you're a stickler for results use new johnson yard master garden weed preventer in flower and shrub beds it stops weeds before they start introducing new shout the astonishing new heavy duty floor cleaner that stops in time to save your wax shine it's a great new idea from johnson wax most all-purpose cleaners don't have stop action built into their formulas and that's why as they work on the dirt they smear and dull the wax shine but new shout with its exclusive stop action formula is specially made for cleaning wax floors see for yourself new shop floor cleaner cuts through tough grime but stops in time to save your wax shine even full strength on extra tough spots shouts better see both cleaners used full strength cut through the grime but only new shout saves the shine try shout the astonishing new heavy duty floor cleaner that cuts through tough grime but stops in time to save your wax shine new shout floor cleaner from johnson wax the people who know most about floor care [Music] i'm angie dickinson this is my sun country and this is sun country air freshener it's really special with crisp fresh outdoor scents we use it in the kitchen the den it even makes the bathroom seem as fresh as the air outside [Music] sun country makes your bathroom seem as fresh as the great outdoors this is florence henderson using clean and shine in the kitchen and this is florence henderson using cleaning shine in the living room wait a minute florence that's a walnut table how can a product that cleans and shines countertops appliances and all these kinds of surfaces polish wood furniture nobody knows more about shine than the johnson wax people their formula for clean and shine gives each surface just what it needs looks beautiful looks beautiful clean and shine for the kitchen for the living room for every room into this cozy home may come flu virus staff strep germs that's why the johnson wax biology center developed virex the new antivirus spray it fights the 1970 winter viruses in the air you breathe lab tests prove that virex kills 90 of the airborne flu virus and staff and strep germs the leading disinfectant spray can't do that new virex it kills the 1970 winter viruses dull kitchen makes me feel like jumping out the window don't do it louise haven't you heard here's something new that will brighten your kitchen new spray jubilee kitchen wax it's so easy to use just spray and wipe some shine huh it cleans as it shines watch this spills beat up on the jubilee side because the hard wax finish won't let them settle down so you whiz through daily cleanups take a shine to your kitchen surfaces use jubilee kitchen wax regularly new spray or liquid from johnson wax used to be hands off the furniture sally till mother let pledge do the dusting i was a pest about the furniture until i let pledge do the dusting that's cause pledge doesn't just dust it cleans and shines too wipes up stains smudges and dust let pledge do the dusting for you and get waxed beauty instantly as you dust every time you dust welcome to the neighborhood i brought the broom i brought them up and the pump the phone the pledge pump it's new liquid pledge and a new pump spray bottle let me try hey it's easy you just pun liquid pledge great idea and what a shine the pledge pump liquid pledge in a new pump spray bottle joins the pledge family to give you waxed beauty instantly every time you dust i'll admit it i'm a stickler so um was that pam dauber uh mindy from work and mindy um i'm not sure i'll have to look at that again anyway so that was just some of the sc johnson wax commercials we did i think we did um probably more than 100 from different time periods and um of course uh beauty and the bride was one of those was a longer form advertisement there's another film that i have in my collection called paging women which was also made by sc johnson wax which is kind of set up like a noon time women's show with helpful hints and recipes and interesting looks at fashion um and and so uh beauty and the bride i'm not sure if it was shown on television it was probably shown to uh uh home economics classes um to uh home especially in college uh and also at you know fairs wherever you know women's groups uh and you know the message here of course is um you know you can get married if you use johnson wax in in a roundabout way and you can also get rid of your budding uh mother-in-law so it's uh it's really interesting uh to see and insanely insulting uh to women um but that's what the advertising was uh there uh there is i guess i did something for um who was it for indiana university and it was the kameh bride of the week where's kame beauty soap and it would show like a beautiful bride it was basically like if you use came soap you will get married you know having trouble finding somebody use chem a soap so um anyways essie johnson wax uh thanks for joining us today um you you guys earned uh earned it because you watched uh a 13-minute film about uh and four you watched uh a almost 30 minute film about how great wax is uh both in industry culture and in uh homemaking um so thank you for uh joining us on that wild crazy um journey that uh we call when uh thursday anyways uh if you like what you saw you can certainly buy us coffee or if you want to punish us by buying us coffee you can go to ko fi.com av geeks you can also go to avgeeks.com and see other things we have online and hit the like button even though you didn't like this show um you know at least like what i'm trying to do maybe the individual films don't don't resonate but you know at least you know give us a little button thumbs up for you know giving it a shot um but we'll be back again tomorrow on friday and we'll watch some more 16 millimeter films uh not about the number four nor about uh household wax uh we'll watch some other things guaranteed but everybody have a great rest of your day and we will see you tomorrow take care you
