hi everybody this is Skip Alzheimer welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 mimer films and um today I am not at the archive I'm actually in Florida and I'll be doing a show at the Alamo in Naples Florida I'll be showing golf films um um so if you're in town come on by anyhow uh today is uh interesting because uh one of our contributors to our comments uh old radios has uh been playing around with AI and uh did it with imagery for a while came up with a bunch of wondercat um imagery and uh he actually was playing around with this AI song music uh uh website and came up he took the lyrics which I'm guessing he transcribed from uh the Uncle Smiley series and he had it reimagined as kind of a 70s folk Rocky uh uh kind of piece and it blew me away I immediately thought of David Bo Katrina thought it was more like the who uh but it definitely has that 70s I thought it was kind of a Glam Rocky thing which is why um I used AI to reenvisioning would look like if he was a Glam Superstar um so this is what we're going to watch is we're going to watch a reimagined intro to uh Uncle Smiley and it's Uncle Smiley in the junkyard playground then we're going to watch Uncle Smiley follows the seasons uh Uncle Smiley goes planting and then finally Uncle Smiley goes recycling um there's lots of songs in here each one of the them has an individual song written by Jim burough who's written quite a few songs um that we featured on this show but also as part of the toet tapping tourament um and so yeah here we go are you ready we're going to Uncle Smiley it out today um if you don't like Uncle Smiley you might want to stop watching if you don't know who Uncle Smiley is by the end of it you might want to stop watching but regardless um it's been a while since I've playground that you hey what do you mean you and Uncle Smiley well when all of us and Uncle Smiley bu the junkyard playground hey there's Uncle Smiley coming now with the key but what did junkyard playground well I told you it's a special kind you know it's a shame that vacant Lots like that just lie around with nobody ever using them except to throw trash and garbage in but what is a junkyard playground golly we've already told you a hundred times if you don't understand by now then you just better watch us and Uncle Smiley and find out yeah actions speak louder than words what words oh wow you're too much poor old junkyard lonely junkyard nobody want you [Music] anymore forgotten junkyard you're just a dumpyard the world has closed it door abandon backyard deserted checky youve every reason to cry poor little dumpyard you really tried hard but everyone has passed you by why don't you come along with us and bring a hammer and a nail a shovel and a fush and an extra garage P thing what's a spin thing well you spin around on it do you know where we got all the things we're using sure we just found them lying around the lot except the tools Uncle brought them those except the Rope too cuz me and Uncle Smiley went to a big ship line and they just gave it to us for nothing sure you can get a lot of things like that for nothing you've just got to ask [Music] d a [Music] is this the junkyard playground yet not yet we've just started building it takes a while to make things you know this is going to be a car what kind of car a car car silly what other kind is there well there are lots of kinds of cars real ones and toy ones yellow ones and there's racing cars and old cars this is a racing car and we made it out of old pipes and boards and stuff just lying around the lot except the cable spoils Uncle Smiley and I went to the power company and they had lots of them lying around so they gave us some for nothing you know what's so good about making toys with junkyard stuff is that you can always take them apart after you get tired of them and make something new again and grown-ups won't get mad at you for taking things [Music] apart you know paint is such great stuff you can change the look of anything with paint it's weird stuff too I'll bet that wall hadn't been painted in 100 years and we made it look like new by the time we were finished with it where'd you get the paint oh just lying around the ground no I'm kidding but it was almost the same thing though because Uncle Smiley went to a big paint company and they gave us most of the paint we wanted for almost nothing yeah because it was all funny colors and kinds that people don't buy much of I like funny colors me too boy is paint weird [Music] what's that Uncle smilees making now can't you tell that's a swing thing is that like a spin thing no you swing on a swing thing and spin on a spin thing [Music] wow where'd you get all those metal barrels we got them from a big oil company they had lots in there all over the place Uncle Smiley told him we were going to build a big junkyard playground and they just gave them to us but what is a junkyard playground I keep telling you you're looking at one right now you mean all those barrs and things well yeah but they're only part of a junkyard playground it's the idea that counts mean like taking all sorts of junk and things you can get for free and making play things out of them yeah and the idea that you can take them apart and build something else whenever you feel like it I think I'm beginning to get the idea [Music] money can buy you things that are brand new at any big department store but it can't buy you the satisfaction of doing so much more those throw away things and broken play things are all usable you see yeah all that old trash worth more than new cash so junkyard Mak some room for me why don't you come along with us and bring a hammer and a nail a shovel and a paintbrush and an extra garbage pale you can create Magic with the things that can be found lying on a junkyard ground Uncle Smiley thought we ought to make a garden too with a real tree in it a lot of us never planted anything before or even seen anything planted except in the movies it wasn't that hard though did you get those flowers for nothing too no we had to buy them all but it was worth it do you know how important trees and plants are a bet bet you think I don't know but I do trees and plants help make the year that everybody in the world breathes and lots of things like that hey you're right how'd you know about that I know about a lot of [Music] things playground junkyard playground you're not lonely anymore we've really changed you and rearranged you and now you're so much more now people pass by they stop and ask why they never noticed you before but you were right there no one else so junkyard makes some room for me why don't you come along with us and bring a hammer and a nail a shovel and a paintbrush and [Music] of un's to be old uncle is always no matter what happens it's to be fun so Uncle Smiley get up and go so unle smiley get up and go [Music] summer is the time of the sun is at height when all the world benath the sun is warm and green and bright roots are spreading in the soil see the crops we grow all the things we grow to eat us standing in a row summer is the time of year for Grazing In the fieldes cows and animals and all kinds in the fields eating from the summer Earth or lying in the sun you never have to tell them when the summer beun animals all feed upon the land as you and I and land depends on the sun and from the and bees upon the flowers for the food they just as we depend upon the honey from the be just as winter spring and fall the summer has to end it's sad to see the summer go for summer was our but seasons are connected just as fokes Upon A Wheel the season spin around s just like a giant Ferris wheel [Music] head [Music] [Applause] [Music] round and round the seasons turn watch them closely we can learn summer fading in the past Autumn time is coming [Music] fast leaves of yellow red and brown falling gently to the ground falling to the earth below the Earth that gave them strength to grow fall has come to bring its pretty colors to our door in the fields and meadows and upon the forest floor everywhere around the leaves of autumn fill the air feel the Autumn Breeze is Flowing gently through your hair fall is here the time of year to harvest what we grow time to gather apples from the app apple trees we know apples juicy red and ripe falling from the trees falling to the Earth with every breath of autumn breeze bring a bucket or a baset anything to fill fill it with the ripest apples lying on the hill careful when you climb the tree don't fall and bump your head remember only pick the apples that are ripe and red Autumn is the time for witches goblins and for ghosts it isn't hard to find the one that scares us all the most Jacko lanterns filled with fire light shining in the night whoever would have thought a pumpkin could give such a fright [Music] h [Applause] [Music] round and round the seasons go winter brings the ice and snow and trees that once were or green Wier than you've ever seen the Earth is Qui now fast asleep under the snow that's falling deep birds that once were seen up high have left behind the winter sky Wake Up On a Winter's morning to find that fall is gone snow has fallen everywhere and Autumn's leaves are gone fields that once we're filled with crops must wait till winter stops and all the Wild Woods animals are snug inside their homes grab your sleigh and come away now to the hill to play up and down the hill we'll go laughing in the snow snow is White and snow is cold lots of fun to hold making snowmen can be fun for you and everyone [Music] w [Music] round and round the seasons turn spring is here here to take it turn warm spring sunsh FS the air and newborn life is everywhere Springtime is the time when life renews itself by giving life to Young that replace the old as spring is born from Winter's [Music] Cold Spring is blooming everywhere and colors light and gay the smell of spring is in the air with blossoms on display leafy trees and honeybees and butterflies abound the land is waking up again and everywhere around spring is bursting forth again the winter cold has passed and streams that once were frozen hard are flowing very fast water from the melting snow and gentle falling rains are flowing down the mountains to the valleys and the plains running through the meadow in the early morning de dandelions are waiting in the m just for you dandelions are fine for wine and dandel and greens and some folks even like them more than green or yellow beans [Music] the [Music] round and round the seasons turn watch them closely we can learn Rising on a summer another year has come and gone summer is a part of all a part of winter spring and fall and touching one is touching all the balance ties them one and all we're connected one and all oh [Music] who is the one when the school day is done that the kids always run to it un smiling who is the place where the kids always they no time to waste when it's Uncle sming uncle's the one who's always busy they know too busy working to get up and go but uncle's a friend who can never so Uncle Smiley get up and go uncle's the one he a barel look here he com around like a carnival clown he's a part of the town he's our uncle when there's a job to [Music] be is always the one no matter what happens it's about to be fun so Uncle Smiley get up and go so Uncle Smiley get up let me tell you about the special time Uncle Smiley took us on a trip [Music] planting we took some shovels and some baby trees each of us was looking forward to planting driving to the mountains in the early morning you could feel the air was clean by the river valleys in the fields of corn and the forest deep and green looking for the place where the woods lay burnt and the Earth was scorched inside looking for the place where a hi Hasty campire had not [Music] died Uncle Smiley told us that he knew everything there to know about hiking so with our trees and bucket in our hands we set out across the manlands hiking but we Along on a hiking trip you never really know what surprises Lan for and just how things will go he means well but it's hard to tell what uncle's going to do you won believe the things he did and what we all went through hey have you ever planted a tree well we have we went reforesting but that's just a big word for planting trees in the woods where they used to grow Uncle Smiley heard there had been a forest fire in the state park so we all got together to go back in the woods where the fire had beenin and plant some baby trees you know for somebody who knows a lot about hiking Uncle sure had a pile of catastrophes along the way what's a catastrophe well catastrophe is when something really horrible goes wrong that you don't expect oh yeah Uncle Smiley had plenty of those in fact he had his first tastrophe right after we started out you see Uncle found this thing Tony thought it was a hornet's nest but Uncle was sure it was a beehive and he wanted to get some honey uncle said he knew all about bees and it wouldn't hurt them any if you just took a tiny bit of honey while they weren't looking boy I don't know how uncle could get past a bunch of bees or Hornets without being noticed [Music] [Music] h [Applause] [Music] uncle was so sorry and ashamed of what he' done to the Hornets home he was more worried about the little Hornets than he was about the sting he had gotten on his backside I guess maybe he thought it served him right after being so careless and inconsiderate and first place well anyway we were just sitting there in the field feeling sorry for the Hornet when all of a sudden there was a wrestling in the bush next to us everybody got really scared at first and Uncle jumped up to protect us in case it was something dangerous then We snuck over real carefully to see what it [Music] was it was just a poor little rabbit with its paw caught in a big steel trap the little rabbit could have never gotten out of the Trap and if we hadn't have come along he would have just stayed there and starved to death Uncle went over to his napsack to get a pair of thick gloves to open the trap with he had to be real careful and quiet not to scare the bunny traps are such mean things they don't seem fair Uncle Smiley said that they were against law in the park anyway I can't understand how some people can hurt animals like that sort of like they don't think animals have any feelings or anything yeah they don't seem to realize that animals and people should be [Music] friends while we were hiking along the river some of the kids noticed some pretty flowers growing beside the trail yeah and they went over and started picking them I guess they didn't realize what they were doing Uncle Smiley came back to stop them he reminded them that if everybody did that pretty soon there wouldn't be any flowers for anybody to look at when they were hiking and there wouldn't be any place for honeybees to get food from either bees need flowers just like people everybody needs flowers many and people all and many people still realize form of life they know is related they all come together in a special way to make the world go rabbits and trees and flowers and bees in the grass upon the ground each has a certain job to do and a certain way big or small they touch us all and each in a different way uncle had a bad habit of reading while he was hiking and that got him into an awful lot of trouble sometimes actually though it wasn't always his [Music] fault uncle was really mad when he saw what made him slip How could somebody be so stupid and lazy to just throw all that trash right there on the trail I don't know but Uncle sure must have been [Music] bugged the thing that got him the most were all those papers and trash from Camas how could anybody be so stupid to take a picture of something beautiful then throw the trash all over it to make it ugly [Music] we had to hike for a long way before we finally got to the place where the fire had been it was already getting late in the afternoon yeah we were just hiking up to the top of the hill when we suddenly saw it all of us were really surprised because we'd never seen where a real forest fire had been before except in the movies and on TV but it didn't really look like the fires in the movies either it looked different Uncle Smiley told us that forest fires in the movies were usually fires that burn everything above the ground and were called Crown fires but lots of fires like this one were underground fires fires which meant that the roots burned under the ground and the fire spread from root to root of each tree and those are hard fires to put out sometimes because you can't always see where the fire is going Uncle Smiley told us how forest fires a lot more than just trees babbe animals and birds that can't get out of the way fast enough get burned up too and all because somebody had forgot and left a campfire buring that was what started the whole thing off well we just got our shovels and trees ready and got set to go to work Uncle I just read a book about planting trees so we planned the first one to show us how to do [Music] it it's not really hard at all it's fun set out to plant my little tree with the shovel I had brought me planting duck my tree a little ho isy in a good place for a tree to be planted a tree made sun and Rain sea and space to grow up tall an earth in which to spread its roots and catch the rain that falls and plant it in the proper season in the proper way and and planted in the proper place to grow up strong [Music] someday trees are more than pretty scenery there are many things The Greenery gives us a tree is something special and we take for granted all the things that it gives [Music] us for from the trees we all receive the gift of air we breathe so much air that fills the Earth begins with tiny leaves and trees will help the land retain the soil in which we sow and help retain the water from the rains and melting [Music] snow you know it'll be nice to come back someday and see how big the trees have gotten I wonder how how big they'll get real real real big I'll [Music] bet well now with all our trees planted it was time to go home uncle said he'd studied the map and knew a faster way back by taking another Trail it didn't turn out that way though on the way uncle had another catastrophe the first one had happened when we stopped along the trail look at a beautiful waterfall Uncle wasn't looking at what he was doing again and knocked his hat off into the water yeah it all started when he went to climb down the Rocks after it you know how much he loved that hat but boy was that a dumb thing to do I'll say we tried to stop him but he said he'd be all right you know Uncle Smiley [Music] a [Music] poor Uncle Smiley kept having trouble all the way back to the car everything kept happening to him yeah by the time we got back he could hardly [Music] walk I guess we should have carried him but golly Uncle smile is awful heavy you know he's heavier than almost anybody but he's nicer than anybody too even if he does make a lot of [Music] mistakes now we told you the speci time Uncle smile took us on planting we took some shovels and some baby chees each of us was looking forward to planting we walk through the mountains in the early morning the air was fresh and clean by our valleys and the fields of corn in the forest deep and green we found the place where the woods burned and the Earth was sced inside we found the place where hiker's Hy campire had not died [Music] [Music] [Music] la who is the one when the school day is done that the kids always run to Uncle recycling is sure I do what is it then well it's sort of like riding a bicycle backwards wow that's dumb well what is it then no at All Recycling means taking trash and junk and turning it back into usable things again did you know for example that the stuff newspapers and bottles and aluminum cans are made of can be used over and over again how can you do that with special machines and furnaces and things that'll melt down metal and Crush glass and things like that how do you know everybody knows silly Uncle SMY told us all about it he knows a lot about recycling [Music] [Applause] [Music] won't you come with us today we're going on the town going to gather lots of different things that can be found maybe we'll stop by to say hello and how do you do if you'd like to join with us we've got the job for you call your friends and relatives and people that you know tell them that you might be stopping by to say hello if they've got a Bo or two of old aluminum cans or noit bottles never mind about the brand oh a bottle's always made of and paper is made of wood some cans are aluminum and aluminum is always good there are places for recycling these and many more and recycling is the thing the world needs more and have you ever stopped to just how many trees it takes to make the daily people always read every book and magazine is made of w you see and w is just another name for what was once a tree so w't you bring your wagons and CS Ander bags bring your buckets and canvas Stacks we're collecting all cans and dirty pants bottles and paper Stacks recycling recycling Pull Your Wagon from to recycling recycling using things we've used [Music] oh [Music] n [Music] uncle was sure worried about his car so were we but his car was just sick when cars and trucks get sick and start making all that smoke and make everything else around them sick too [Music] I bet you can't guess what we're going to do here bet you think we're going to ride on the swings or slides or something huh well why not it's a playground isn't it yeah but we're here to gather up stuff for recycling it's filled with all kinds of trash and stuff that kids have done away they're almost as bad as grown-ups sometimes says who says me listen lots of trash isn't really trash at all because it can be made into new things again actually everything could be used again if people really wanted to how can you tell what's trash and what can be recycled well first you've got to know what something's made of take cans for instance they can be made of aluminum or steel or even both together sometimes how do you tell them apart well a steel can has a big seam down the side and a big Ridge around the top and bottom where it was put together and all aluminum can is made in one piece and doesn't have a ridge or a big seam downside besides aluminum can usually say so right on the can if you can read I can read all right tab the important things to recycle too and people just throw them all over the place pretty soon they'll cover the grass and Roads and everything in the world what about bottles they're all recyclable even throwaway ones just make sure you get all the metal off from around the top of the bottles Pliers are good for that and take off the paper too you can't mix up the glass with metal or [Music] paper what are you going to do with old tires different companies are trying to see if they can be used to build roads yeah yeah won't you come with us today we're going on the town going to LS of different that can be found maybe we'll stop by to say hello and how do garbage cans no one wants to take the time or touch them with their hands but these are often things that can be used and used and used again things that can be crushed or melted down to start again la [Music] [Applause] [Music] well here we are at the recycling pickup station from here everything gets collected in trucks and hauled off to the recycling plants where it gets converted back into usable stuff again Uncle SMY knew the station manager he was a nice man and he helped us unload all our things you come with us today we're going on the town going to lots of different things that can make sure that all the stuff goes with the right bin and doesn't get mixed up boy if he had seen some of the mixups we'd been in that day he'd probably closed up early and left before we got there with Uncle Smiley along you can be sure that there will never be a dull moment are you through now well yeah that was the end of our trip thank goodness woo [Music] PA la
