my so so do do so so so so so hey everybody this is skip alzheimer from av geeks and you're watching av gig 16 millimeter lunch live i'm broadcasting today from a little bit of different backdrop you might be able to see over that this shoulder uh kim's video a little bit different than my digs in raleigh we're at kim's video in new york city it's a legendary new york video store that opened up last night in lower manhattan renting vhs tapes and dvds and this incredible library and i was honored to uh to help spearhead the project uh new york times article came out you could search kim's video new york times and and i was quoted in it so very proud and happy about that and uh it's amazing and i think later today i skip alzheimer i'm gonna give you a little tour and we'll take a look but i thought i was feeling in the mood to because we're in a video store cue up some videos instead of our traditional 16 millimeters so let's call it the av geeks vhs lunch uh i want to start off with a military film called i am what enjoy everybody [Music] [Music] let me guess what happened you use the terminal in your office quite a bit and one day your supervisor came in and said you're going to be the tasso for the terminal at that point two thoughts went through your mind you first thought well okay i'll be the tasso and i'll be a good one second you thought what in the heck is a tasso we're gonna help you with that second thought in fact that's the purpose of this tape we're going to tell you what a tasso is and more importantly we're going to tell you what responsibilities you have as a tasso and you will have responsibilities important responsibilities but the requirements are straightforward and i think you'll agree that they're pretty much just common sense one thing you'll have to be assertive you'll have to be able to confront people and say no but you can handle that one caution i'm going to be talking about tassos for unclassified systems only if you're designated as a tasso for a system processing classified information there'll be some additional requirements and you'll receive additional training some facts tasso stands for terminal area security officer tassels are required by ar-38380 automation security and the primary purpose of a tasso is to help ensure that only authorized people use terminals and associated automated equipment in addition there should be some alternate tassos appointed for each terminal these folks have the same responsibilities as a tasso they serve when the tasso is absent those are the basics and i hope by the end of the tape you agree that they make sense many of our office functions are becoming automated and you and the rest of the command are becoming dependent on automation to get your work done when you stop to think that the file cabinets desks and typewriters of the traditional office are gradually being replaced by computer terminals you should realize that access to the terminals has to be controlled you don't let just anyone come in and rummage through your desk or the file cabinets in your office so don't let just anyone come in and use your terminal here is where the tassel comes in the tassel has the primary responsibility to make sure that only authorized persons use their terminal or other automated equipment however you as the tasso are not alone there should also be alternate tassels designated and all of your co-workers should help make sure that only authorized persons use the terminal but remember as tassel you are responsible to make sure this gets done you have to ensure that the alternate tassels and other members of your office realize that access to the terminals has to be controlled each and every employee is responsible to help protect our automated systems as tasso you are responsible to make sure your co-workers realize this and that they make it work a tasso has to be appointed for each terminal or group of terminals supervisors are responsible to ensure that tassels and alternates are appointed the appointment must be in writing usually tassel responsibilities will be in addition to other responsibilities it will be rare when being a tasso is a full-time job as tassel you can be responsible for one terminal or many terminals anyone can be a tassel there are no prerequisites you do not have to be a certain grade and you do not have to know how a terminal works there must however be a tassel and alternates designated in writing for each terminal if you have a small personal computer or a small office computer system with terminals you must also have tassels designated again common sense if you have automated equipment in your areas you must have someone responsible to ensure that only authorized persons use the equipment the terminal area security officer the tasso is the logical person to accomplish this [Music] okay a tasso and alternates have been appointed that's you now what specifically do you do you control access to the terminals and associated automated equipment you manage any security devices such as locks and keys in some cases you're responsible for passwords and you enforce security procedures controlling who has access to the terminal is the most important of your responsibilities the basics are simple anyone can use your automated equipment as long as you or one of your alternates gives permission for other than classified systems you do not even have to maintain a list of authorized users just make sure that you know who is using your system if a stranger can convince you that he or she has a valid need to use your equipment let them at it [Music] but don't assume anything challenge people be suspicious ask for identification and if there is any doubt in your mind deny permission no one has the inherent right to use your equipment this is where you may have to be assertive challenging people and saying no can be difficult however you do not have to be the avs com or a trustcom version of ramble you say who uses the equipment and if you have any problem with people get help from your supervisor co-workers or even the security police [Music] with regard to access it is also vital that you challenge persons who say they are there to repair your equipment ask for identification don't just let anyone work on your equipment challenge everyone and ask for identification as tasso are alternate you must also make sure that any physical security devices provided for your terminal are properly used in most cases this will involve locks and keys the majority of the terminals have locks which disable the keyboard at the end of the day or when the terminal will not be used for the remainder of the day the key lock should be engaged if at all possible keys should be locked in desks or cabinets [Music] and remember if you lock the key in a cabinet make sure the key to the cabinet is not left laying around some terminals and small personal computers do not have keys or locks if this is the case you may not be involved with keys but if your equipment is equipped with a lock make sure it is used [Music] as tasso you may have some responsibility concerning passwords it will depend on the system and the type of applications you and the others in your office are using the majority of the applications available on the large mainframe systems will soon use an individual user identification and password system each user will have his or her own id and password as tasso you will want to make sure persons are authorized to use your equipment but you will not have any responsibility concerning their passwords each person will log on to the system using their unique codes and when they are done they will log off each user will be responsible for the security of their own id and password this will also be true for the small systems located in your office areas when an individual user id and password system is in effect each user and not the tassel is responsible for password security some systems do not use an individual user id and password method and in these cases the tasso and alternate tassels are responsible for security of the passwords in these cases there will be a user id and password assigned to each terminal the tasso or an alternate will sign for the password and only the tassel and alternate are authorized to know the password [Music] in these cases the tassel must log the terminal onto the system for authorized users we realize this is inconvenient and these types of systems are being replaced however if you are a tassel for a system where there are no individual user ids and passwords remember that you and your alternates are the only persons authorized to know the password you must notify the security people and be issued another password if you or one of your alternates takes another job retires or no longer has need for the password [Music] in addition to controlling access making sure that physical security devices such as keys are used and where required protecting passwords the tasso and the alternates are also responsible to ensure that proper terminal security procedures are followed these procedures are generally just common sense measures the most important is making sure that the terminal is not left logged on and active when it is unattended again common sense don't make it easy for an unauthorized person to use your system if the terminal is not being used must either be logged off or an authorized user must be in a position to challenge anyone who tries to use the terminal and that's all there is to being a terminal area security officer as i said some common sense controls for the terminals and other automated equipment in your office areas you've got some serious responsibilities and you may have to be assertive and say no to people but you've had to do that before just remember the key thing is to make sure that only authorized people use the terminals in your office area and remember the good part you're the one that does the authorizing if you follow a few simple rules you'll be an effective tasso and you'll help to safeguard our automated systems control access to your terminals challenge strangers including those folks that say they're there to service or repair your equipment if you're responsible for a password make sure that only authorized people know the password don't leave active terminals unattended if you have keys and locks for your terminals make sure they're used and if you need new that guitar solo at the end of that uh video about uh computer security before the internet uh fascinating stuff uh you know what i'm kind of liking this video thing but and if i'm being honest more than 16 millimeter and video showing weird videos it's like a boy like nobody else is out there doing that so i'm thinking of pivoting av geeks entirely literally throwing away all my 16 millimeter films um he's got to get one of those big dumpster things and they'll have it carted away but the problem for a later day i think right now just throw them away and get into this video game so i get another video to show you this one's about medical waste i think you're gonna like it and then we'll get a tour of the kim's video momentarily enjoy [Music] okay let's go [Music] [Music] when you look at that a soft drink can and a candy wrapper in the infectious waste container and look at that a banana peel can you believe that and look here more general trash in the red bags i don't know what this place is coming to people putting the wrong stuff in the red bags i mean they got this system set up here to handle infectious waste you know so it can infect people like these special heavy duty red bags and the orange autoclave bags these sharps containers and the careful way we have to collect them and the secure storage room where we have to put them and the way they have to be disposed of either in the incinerator or the autoclave or being hauled away in a special truck you know all this has got to cost more than the way general trash is handled someone told me it cost four times as much and with all that wrong stuff in there a lot of money's being wasted now bet if people would stop putting so much wrong stuff in the infectious waste containers we could save a lot of money around good idea in fact there's a major effort underway right now in army health care facilities to minimize the amount of waste that has to be regulated as infectious and that means making sure that the items placed in the infectious waste disposal system really do represent a hazard to help you know once it's in the bag we can't do anything about it we have to treat it as infectious waste even if it's a soft drink can or general trash or garbage you know like a banana peel you're right if it's in the infectious waste container it has to be treated as infectious waste it's a person who generates the waste who must take the responsibility for making sure the wrong stuff doesn't get in the regulated waste disposal system and cause a lot of extra work and expense did you know that it costs nearly half billion dollars every year to handle infectious waste that works out to over one hundred thousand dollars a year for a single 200 bed hospital most people do a good job of handling waste generated in medical facilities but we need to watch where the wastes are going it's everybody's responsibility to try to reduce these costs by minimizing the generation of infectious waste and the place to begin is to simply avoid being careless yeah stop throwing the wrong stuff in the red bags well that sometimes not as simple as it sounds there are some kinds of waste that people consider to be infectious but really are not so it's important that everyone understand what infectious waste really is and what it isn't the definition must be established by every facility's medical authority and approved by the infection control committee in accordance with federal state and local regulations always keeping in mind the objective of reducing cost by minimizing unnecessary infectious waste let's take a moment to review the steps involved in minimizing unnecessary infectious waste the first step is to define infectious waste infectious waste is just one of five waste streams generated by a health care facility the most common type is general waste ordinary non-medical trash and garbage that does not pose any special health hazard and does not need special handling it can come from any department in the facility general ways should be disposed of in ordinary trash receptacles to be handled in a routine manner it is treated as general municipal waste and is therefore the least expensive waste stream to handle any waste that doesn't belong in the other four streams should be handled as general waste the other four streams come from medical sources some are defined as regulated medical waste some are regulated and managed as hazardous or radiological waste others are managed as non-infectious or other medical waste radioactive wastes are handled according to very special procedures set forth by each facility's radiation protection officer they are not to be disposed of in the containers used to handle infectious waste hazardous wastes are those that are specifically identified as such in title 40 code of federal regulations or equivalent state hazardous waste regulations they are also handled separately from infectious waste according to special federally dictated procedures set forth by your facility non-infectious waste often called other includes medical waste that are not infectious such things as unused syringes without needles and non-infectious pharmaceuticals some local laws may require the treatment of unused syringes and sharps as infectious waste even though they pose no threat of infection check with local policy if you're unsure finally we come to the fifth stream regulated medical waste often called infectious waste regulated medical waste are defined as those with the potential for causing infectious diseases in susceptible hosts that's what the infectious waste handling system is designed to handle but what is and isn't regulated medical waste the three government agencies that regulate such waste the environmental protection agency the centers for disease control and the occupational safety and health administration they generally agree that infectious wastes include the following culture stocks of infectious agents and associated biologicals and vaccines including clinical laboratory specimens culture dishes and devices used to transfer inoculate and mix and discarded live and attenuated vaccines pathological waste tissues organs body parts or body fluids removed from humans during surgery and autopsy human blood and blood products including waste blood serum plasma and their containers all used are unused sharps including hypodermic needles syringes with needles scalpel blades pasture pipettes and broken glass animal carcasses body parts and bedding but only if the animals have been exposed to pathogens in research routine veterinary activities do not generate regulated medical waste and waste from humans in isolation because of highly communicable diseases caused by agents classified risk group 4 by the centers for disease control although these very contagious diseases are rarely seen in the average hospital contingencies must exist to manage them safely specific examples of what should be handled as infectious waste should be spelled out by the facilities infection control committee and preventive medicine regulations and that doesn't include banana peels or soft drink cans no it doesn't and it may surprise you to know that according to current definitions of infectious waste it doesn't include things like these dressings with dried blood and tissues containing dried sputum and other items such as disposable gloves or sheets or towels or specimen containers or empty dialysis tubing and certain filters these items normally aren't classified as infectious waste unless they contain dripping blood under the current definition of infectious waste a sponge or dressing dripping with blood will be handled as infectious waste a sponge with blood that is not dripping or soil dressings with non-dripping blood are not considered infectious they can be handled as general waste and disposed of in regular trash containers are you sure it's okay to put stuff like that in the regular trash yes it's now agreed that to be infectious blood must be dripping fluids that are not dripping are not considered to be hazardous so there's no reason to handle them as if they were the exact definition of what is and what isn't infectious waste must be approved by each facility's infection control committee everyone should follow the local guidelines once those definitions have been established locally step two is to inventory where infectious waste may be generated in the facility and see that those areas are equipped with the proper containers for handling infectious waste the labor and delivery room for example the dental surgery room the emergency room or acute ambulatory care facilities the operating room clinical investigations activities at medical centers pathology labs any place where dripping blood or other sources of infection as identified by the infection control committee may be found appropriate infectious waste containers should be placed in those areas only sturdy plastic bags are used for most infectious waste usually they are red in color and are strong enough to resist ripping puncture or bursting if the waste is to be autoclaved the bag is usually orange rigid puncture proof containers are used for heavy waste and for sharps these containers must be marked with a universal biohazard symbol the presence of these containers in a given area tells everyone that infectious waste most likely will be generated there likewise if there are no special containers in a given area the infection control committee is saying that the waste generated there should probably not be handled as infectious are you with me so far you bet i am makes sense sounds like you're trying to save some money around here and make my job easier at the same time that's what will happen if everyone follows step three segregate waste properly general waste goes into ordinary containers waste defined as infectious should be placed in the special red or orange bags depending upon destruction method red for incineration and orange for sterilization large solid or semi-solid infectious waste that will not conveniently fit in a red or orange bag can be wrapped with plastic and sealed and marked with a bio hazard symbol infectious waste that are liquid or pathological waste that has been ground up can be disposed of through a sanitary sewer if the receiving treatment plant provides secondary treatment otherwise it should be poured into a bottle or flask and tightly capped then it should be placed in a rigid plastic bucket and sealed to prevent spills large quantities of infectious liquid waste can be poured directly into a rigid bucket and sealed if a chemical has expired the disposal directions on the label should be followed if there is any question about disposal procedure the facility's environmental or preventive medicine officer should be contacted his office has access to the army's medical item disposal instructions or midi database system it gives instructions for disposal of medical items both hazardous and non-hazardous many liquid solvents used for preparation of tissue specimens that previously have had to be disposed of as infectious waste are now being recycled on site this is done in a system that distills the solvent in a partial vacuum at a predetermined temperature this permits recovery of solvent that is free from impurities and is suitable for reuse used and unused sharp should be disposed of in a special puncture-proof container that is kept secure to prevent tampering or accidental spills disposable needles and syringes should be discarded intact and not cut broken bent or recapped no container should ever be filled beyond the point where it can be safely sealed to help prevent injury during handling storage of regulated medical waste at the point of generation should not exceed 24 hours sharps may be stored until the container's capacity is reached at that point a call should be made to notify the handlers for pickup up to this point the integrity of the infectious waste disposal system has depended on facility management and those who generate the waste when everyone knows what waste should be handled as infectious and such wastes are segregated from general waste and put in the proper containers and when the wrong stuff is not put in the special containers then the handlers can take over knowing that it is only infectious waste that they are handling and they know how to do it you bet we do when we get called for an infectious waste pickup we bring our transportation carts and the infectious waste containers we wear protective gloves and aprons that's to protect us of course we close and seal the bags by holding them at the top the idea is not to come in contact with the contents we don't squeeze or shake the bags it's not that we don't have faith that no one would be careless enough to put sharps in the red bags but we don't want to take any chances and we definitely do not want to break that bag we carry each bag to the container by the top carefully we don't want to drop it if we did we could have a real mess we put the bag in the container the bag's red we know it's going to the incinerator if it's orange it's going to the autoclave we collect sharps containers carefully too you can bet none of us wants to get stuck by a needle or a scalpel blade or broken glass and that's possible if someone fills this container too full now you say what do we do with the containers we collect we take them to a holding area in our clinic it's right off the loading dock we store regulated medical ways here behind locked doors it's important to maintain security when you're handling this kind of stuff you know all the bags and containers get put in boxes then they get sealed and labeled they stay here all locked up until they get picked up for the incinerator or the autoclave or in some cases they may get trucked off to a disposal site off post i'd like you to take a closer look at this holding area looks pretty neat and clean doesn't it we make sure it stays like that we don't want to attract insects or rodents to our holding room we're pretty proud of the way we keep this room and the fact is we're proud of the rest of the job we've been given to do it's important to handle this stuff right every health care facility should review its medical waste handling system to be sure it's up-to-date effective and efficient a model regulation has been developed as a guide with the expectation that each facility will adapt it to its own circumstances based on state and local regulations a clear definition should be established of what is to be treated as infectious waste and what isn't remember that many items that once were thought to be infectious are no longer considered so take into account that every effort should be made to minimize the amount of medical waste that must be regulated be sure everyone who generates medical waste segregates it properly do not put general trash into infectious waste containers and of course do not put infectious waste in with a general trash put all sharps in the special containers never fill above the height established as safe for a particular container type as soon as the container is full notify the handlers and they'll take it from there like i said we're proud of the way we handle the infectious waste in this clinic we know our job's important that's why we take it personally when people put the wrong stuff in our containers it costs a lot more money to handle infectious waste than it does to handle general trash and we don't like to see that money wasted and you can appreciate that we'd rather not handle a lot of stuff as infectious if it isn't necessary help us out won't you make sure only the right stuff gets put in the infectious waste containers if you do your part you can to be able to show you that one because uh a lot of people do eat lunch while watching this and i thought blood soaked bandages i think that's the way to go uh so i hope you enjoyed that um i was told during the break that there is somebody already kind of doing a video show that's similar didn't sound very compelling to me but it uh they do something with vhs rather than film and uh you showed up it's nick brewer of the found footage festival hi everybody um yeah some of your uh some of your names look familiar from some of our shows uh that joe and i do when we tour around and uh skip this is uh pretty awesome uh we got to work together on this uh this kim's video project um yeah i drove up from from raleigh and um nick was like a babe lost in the woods he had no idea what the hell he was doing yeah i mean the advantage was i'm it's only a train train ride away i'm in queens and so um but you know i we have over 13 000 videotapes so it wasn't that hard to figure out 13 000 okay all right come to my uh come to my former uh boarding house sometime and i'll show you my my videos but uh um well we hope maybe we could just show you the fruits of our labor for the past three months and show you kim's video in new york city this is in lower manhattan near wall street we invite everyone to come take a look it's a museum and a functioning video rental store yeah it's pretty great i'm now i'm gonna do this with uh with skip's computer and hopefully it's not gonna make you hair barf careful it's an egg yes all right so i'm turning it around and i'm gonna try to make it to where people can see everything going up the stairs this is at uh the alamo lower manhattan and this uh is four stories underground all right not the best way to do this but so those giant vhs tapes are actually shelves so if we go on the other side you'll see that they hold the actual vhs tapes on the other side and the shelf in the back there is a vhs tape too which we can show you you also may have noticed the stay puff marshmallow man that's part of the alamo yeah that's the other side of computer beach party right here yeah computer beach party is one of found footage festival's favorite uh feature films and we've actually shown it and also i gotta say 1990 bronx warriors uh never has there been a celluloid interpretation of bronx it's more accurate than uh than this film this is like the war if you like the movie the warriors you should watch this because it's like a complete ripoff but a wonderful sequel one of the greatest covers of all time easily yeah easily so we've got here uh dvds which neither one of us really collect right no not really but the kim's collection had close to you know probably 20 30 000 of them i think we have 15 000 uh dvds available right now for free rentals everything's free we've got drawers underneath that have even more going all the way down and there's categories like slobs versus snobs we have a category called uh nunsploitation it's very granular yes and of course here's some of the more interesting ones uh including nitty gritty new york city which has some rough exploitation films and some muppets uh take manhattan um yeah we were pretty loose with the interpretation of nitty gritty um here's where uh some of the av geeks collections here these are my pride and joy so we got educational archives uh these are all drivers instructional film so that's in a category called found footage party and there's some found footage titles in there as well right yeah here's more of my stuff and then uh yeah here's one of your nice yep nice and that's you right there right yep yeah with the yeah orange beard and a hat that that's me in the freckles interesting so yeah this is it this is uh what show the other side of the oh yeah this of course is crush groove yep and it's got uh all of new york city's wrappers from the time it was made uh the fat boys run dmc in there we got curtis below and new addition a sheila ease there at the front oh nice yeah so nice yep um so let's talk about upcoming projects now that this has been launched and it's open to the public uh you can come here and rent and get a membership um for all you in manhattan or in uh jersey area let's get here by train yep um so uh one of the things that we do with town footage festival every tuesday is a vcr party where uh joe nick steve and george we get down there and we watch some of our favorite uh clips from some of our collection and currently we're doing the toe tapping tournament 2022. uh that's joe for all the alliteration there uh and um are we going to be competing with adk that's right as you might remember i won the tournament that big crossover where i brought my best jingles and i won uh a the club which is a video that i gave to these guys i won a commissioned painting of the club it's hanging proudly in my office in raleigh and uh but i'm i'm willing to put my best toe tapping as songs from old 16 millimeter films against your toe tapping as jingles and songs from vhs tapes and i'm so confident that i'm going to keep that painting and not have to turn over my clown eating and turkey life well i haven't i think it was a fix i mean basically we had the judge was jim stringer who wrote shake hands with danger so yeah this time i think we're going to have to be kind of more strict on our officiating and impartial judge yes and partial judge but uh i'm looking forward to maybe we will do a clean sweep where we'll both take the uh the club and we will take the clown to raise the stakes yes so let's look for that in may and maybe as uh live shows start happening more and more frequently we could do another team up that way yeah that would be really great yeah um and so you also do saturday morning cartoons on saturday which is uh or we do saturday morning chat interviews monday cartoons on yeah yes that's your deal which is great we watch old uh 80s uh saturday morning cartoons and uh comment on them about either how good they are or real really how bad they are yes and the toy tie-ins uh related and you told me that i was forced to plug your patreon which is patreon.com footage festival i do it against my
