A TRIP UP MOUNT LOWE WITH THE FORD CAMERA MA

Format: 16mm

Description: Made by Henry Ford's newsreel team, "A Trip up Mount Lowe with the Ford Camera Man" shows Mount Lowe in the Sierra Madre range near Pasadena, California. The film is silent. The 6,100 foot high mountain boasted a popular attraction -- a funicular or incline railway in Rubio Canyon that connected to an electric trolley system. The trolley ran to a mountain retreat. At 1:18 the summit of the incline at Echo Mountain House is shown. At 1:24 a ride to the Alpine Tavern aboard one of the open Pacific Electric trolley cars is seen (this route is now a popular hiking trail). At 3;26 Sentinel Rock is visible. At 4;25 the trolley car winds over the Circular Bridge. At 4:44 the P.E. car has arrived at the end of the line and passengers exit. At 4:58 some begin hiking the 2.5 miles of trails that lead to the summit. At 5:30 ropes are used to get up to Inspiration Point. At 7:17 views at the top of the mountain are shown.
