Description: Produced by the Galveston County Cultural Arts Council as part of the American Revolution Bicentennial Celebration, this documentary surveys the historical restoration and progress happening in Galveston, Texas. After reviewing the history of the Oleander City, including the devastating impact of the 1900 Hurricane, the film describes the preservation of historic buildings such as Ashton Villa and the ground-breaking medical research carried out by the University of Texas Medical Branch. The documentary concludes with footage of Galveston’s bicentennial celebration, with Mary Moody Northen in attendance. The Moody Foundation helped fund many projects that continue to preserve much of Galveston’s unique, Victorian buildings and history. Mary Moody Northen was the daughter of William Lewis Moody Jr. She ran the Moody Foundation after her father’s passing, and established her own Mary Moody Northen Endowment in 1964.
