In 1935, the Texas Rangers were assigned to the position they have today as a division of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Texas Rangers are the oldest law enforcement group on the continent of North America who have jurisdiction over an entire state. An extensive three month training program in criminal investigation is required to become a Ranger and the Texas Ranger puts his knowledge and training into effective use in tracing down fugitives from justice.
