Description: In November 1972, Texans passed an amendment calling for the state legislature to hold a constitutional convention in 1974 for the purposes of drafting a new constitution. This educational film, produced by the Texas Constitutional Revision Commission, explains the history of the Constitution of 1876—the governing document at the time—and prior attempts at its revision. The convention ultimately failed to propose a new constitution, however. As a result, Texas still operates under the Constitution of 1876.
