Description: Illustrates the significance of the Impressionist movement by placing the work of the great French Impressionists within the broader social, economic, and ideological context of late 19th Century France. Follows host Kirk Douglas from the popular museum exhibition A Day in the Country to the magnificient French countryside, exploring the history of the turbulent times in which the Impressionist movement grew. Douglas describes the life of Camille Pissarro, often referred to as the "father of Impressionism" and visits the countryside that Pissarro immortalized in his paintings. Visits many other locations in France that inspired the Impressionists as well as the home and gardens of Claude Monet and the gravesite of Vincent Van Gogh. Paul Cezanne, Alfred Sisley, Edouard Manet, and Pierre-August Renoir are among the many artists featured.
