As he enters the building, Martin is ambushed by a group of older boys who take the bowling bag in which he carries the snake. Nigel escapes from the bag in the library and crawls in and out of stacks, counters, and books to the delight of some patrons and the horror of others. When the snake is captured, Scott tells Martin that his pet is only shedding his skin.
