8mm Film

Description: The relatively low cost of 8mm film and its production made filmmaking more accessible to both amateurs, artist and filmmakers. The addition of a magnetic sound for this format in the 1960s let users record sound while filming and add narration in later as well. A typical 8mm filmmaking suite includes a camera, projector, editing equipment and film splicers, some of which are in this display. What’s not shown is how many we actually have in the collection as we’re increasingly offered these types of objects through donations.
