Description: 1976 film describes the original Red Flag Fire Alert program, a grass-roots fire prevention and detection program involving the public and cooperators, which originated the concept of "red flag" fire weather alerts still in use today. Depicts the coordinated multi-agency efforts that occur behind the scenes before, during and after high fire danger days to monitor fire weather conditions, educate the public to the hazard, preposition personnel and equipment in hazardous conditions and use of CB radios and citizen volunteers to maintain vigilance in high-hazard areas prior to the availability of modern technology such as cell phones and web cameras. Demonstrates the effectiveness of California's master mutual aid system for response to large scale emergencies.
