I've seen the Grand Canyon I guess a dozen times from almost every angle but to see it from a low-flying airplane is something else again Jim's Air in San Diego has a flight to the canyon and back and one day with a three-hour Land tour of the south rim the Grand Canyon is one of Nature's most awesome spectacles of grandeur this classic example of the Colorado River's erosion is unequaled and nowhere on Earth The multi-hude Cliffs the slopes of this tremendous Chasm every color on the artist's palette jumps alive with passing light and if you're lucky enough to be in the vicinity of a storm over the canyon drink in that beauty my friend stand in awe of God's power and feel the smallness of man gaze down upon that river that man has harnessed and know that after millions of years of carving This Magnificent Chasm it's still chewing away at the Earth's crust today we're looking down to the canyon floor some 4 500 feet below the rim but at times our pilot Colin Winfield actually dropped us below that rim and there's plenty of room Grand Canyon is about nine miles wide our ground tour took us to several viewpoints where visitors from all over the world were enjoying the spectacular scenery in the summer about 20 000 people a day gaze out on this beauty but from a low-flying plane you can see it all Jim's Air flies you almost the entire length of this awesome Gorge 275 miles and throws in a shortstop at Las Vegas for the price of 120 dollars per person not bad for filling your eyeballs to the brim with the beauty of one of the Seven Wonders of the World I hope my playing mates enjoy that spectacular flight over the Grand Canyon as much as I did and it's just a day away from San Diego for the news Bob Mills reporting California Outdoors back at Lindbergh Field
