the world famous zoo in Balboa Park is not the only Zoo open to the public in San Diego Channel 10's Bob Mills takes us to the other Zoo for a visit on tonight's California Outdoors this attractive patio is the entrance to the county Humane Society on Sherman Street just off Marina one of the 32 full-time employees Stephanie ockleford presents educational programs to Third and sixth graders in San Diego County Schools over 160 slide presentations were given last year emphasizing the Humane Society's function in preventing this treatment of animals she was kind enough to direct this young visitor to the Barnyard where farm animals can be seen by City youngsters not used to the Rural Life evangelis got to feed the goats and see Buzzy the donkey clip and clop the twin ponies pie the sheep and all of our yard fowl chickens ducks and geese and even Eric the Red Pig and Snowball the rabbit snowball is one of the animals Stephanie sometimes takes with her on the school visits for the children do handle and pet a visit here is an educational opportunity for kids to learn how to treat their animal friends and even three-year-olds like vangie can learn proper handling and care of pets it's never too soon to learn that most animals need to be handled and petted gently that some of them don't want to be handled at all [Music] goose who demands his own territory and gets it and that's a valuable lesson to learn early in a child's life too [Music] of course there are also kittens to see and puppies and dogs most of whom are adoptable each year the humane society places over ten thousand pets into Happy homes and I might add they do it without the help of one cent of your tax money it's all done with donations the Humane Society is a good place for youngsters to see animals learn how to take care of animals and maybe even find one for their own for the news this is Bob Mills reporting California Outdoors at the San Diego County Humane Society
