1980s Bob Mills - Balboa Park Miniature Railroad

remain seated please and keep your hands and feet inside the train all aboard besides Santa Claus and my job this fellow has one of the best positions in the world he's Robert Lane and he's one of the engineers on the Balboa Park miniature Railroad for 30 years he worked at convair and now when owner Richard pasig doesn't drive the train Bob does this Dandy little amusement ride was built in this Grove of eucalyptus trees in 1948 a number of people equal to about 25 percent of the population of San Diego rides this train every year that's enough to make Amtrak whistle with Envy the price is 50 Cents for a Clickety clackin root and tootin three-minute ride around almost half a mile a track it runs every day through summer weekends and holidays after school starts while you're here you might as well skip over to the merry-go-round in this section of Balboa Park this historical Beauty First breathed life back in New York in 1910 it's entertained the young at heart here since 1922. and if you're lucky and grab a brass ring you get a free ride iron wins don't count though well the Summer's just about over and the kids will soon be going back to school so if you want to ride the merry ground with a youngster you better hurry of course there's always weekends for the news this is Bob Mills reporting California outdoors from the merry-go-round in Balboa Park [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] um
