1970s PROMO FOR RCA

Format: 16mm

Description: This longform advertisement promotes RCA's "Asset" system for television. Not a lot of information is available about this system, but it appears to be a mechanical cart -- somewhat similar to those used in the radio broadcasting industry -- which would run 16mm film based TV commercials for air. Each cartridge would have contained a 16mm commercial, likely in loop format. These would be triggered either manually, or by cue marks placed on the station's programmed films or videotapes. It's not clear how successful this type of system was; most likely it was quickly made obsolete by videotape based systems.
