Description: Glad you enjoyed it! This travelogue film was produced by Norman Schley (:23). Norm was a skilled filmmaker from Wisconsin who made a series of films under the moniker "Schley Ride" and/or "Picturelogue". Some of his films aired on television, while others were shown in front of live audiences. This particular film takes viewers to Scandinavia: Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Please note: the film indicates it had a script written by John Bakke (:28); this particular print however is silent and was probably a master print. Map showing Scandinavia. The main drag in the area is captured with modern vehicles and shops lining the road (1:19). The Marski hotel follows (1:30). Cooks within the kitchen work to prepare fresh lobster dinners (1:41). The lobster meal is shown after preparation (2:12). The statue of Marshal Mannerheim (2:28) was erected in 1960 in the center of Helsinki. The parliament building is seen at (2:36). A local market is riddled with tourists and locals selling goods (2:42). Tourists look over hand woven rugs in the market (3:28). The Helsinki Olympic Stadium sits just behind the Paavo Nurmi statue (3:57). Paavo Nurmi was a Finnish long-distance runner. The long-distance running track is viewed within the Olympic stadium (4:15). Locals dry their laundry on a line outside (4:30). They stamp their feet over the wet clothing to squeeze out the liquids (5:07). The film turns to Stockholm (5:50). The Stockholm City Hall (5:58) is one of the most recognizable sites of the area. Modern homes and condo’s line the narrow city streets as buses drive citizens through the area (6:10). Locals gather around the theater for a day showing (6:18). An advertisement for the American made Mad Magazine appears; first made in 1952 (6:27). An advertisement for the French magazine called ‘Baise’ follows (6:31). Tourists stand outside an eatery called ‘Drop In’ advertising burgers and fries (6:59). The Hotel Hasselbacken follows (7:05). Picturesque images follow of tourists and bright colorful balloons waving in the air (7:19). Two large elephants stand in the middle of an outdoor zoo as passerby’s take a look (7:29). The architecture of the Gripsholm Castle is pointed to with red brick and high green domes (8:22). A vacationer points to a sign for Jonkoping; a city in southern Sweden (9:42). The city of Granna is visited about three hours from Stockholm (10:16). The main drag of Granna follows (10:30). One woman sells a candy cane to a tourist on the street (10:44). Oslo, the capital of Norway is pointed to as the next travel destination (11:04). Oslo City hall opens the tour of the city with the Vigeland Statue (11:16) rising in front. The nightlife in Oslo is looked at with neon signs lighting up the sky (11:24). Advertisements for William Schmidt and Slotts-Senap (11:32) flash by. Aerial shots of the city of Bergen (12:02). Colorful blossoms in the city square (12:41). Pedestrians move up the stone steps of the local post office (12:59). A boat moves through one of the many fjords in the area (13:29). Tourists pull up to a local Super Shell gas station to refuel (13:46). Cattle line the roadway as a car moves forward (14:13). A wide angle shot shows a narrow creek cutting through the landscape(14:26). A long highway zig zags down the mountain terrain (14:57). Natives rakes grass down on a mountainside (15:36). Dilapidated cottages slouch throughout the country (16:07). Close shots show the roofs of moss (16:26). A few tourists load up into a carriage for a tour (17:32). A rainbow is captured in the mist of a waterfall (17:56). The bronze Little Mermaid statue sits on rocks by the water (18:55) in Copenhagen. The Rosenborg Castle (22:13). The tomb for the Danish poet Hans Christen Andersen (23:39). Local restaurants in the area are viewed (23:58). A sign notes the area is in Odense, Denmark (24:03).
